    I'm convinced it is a prion so any human that moves in will suffer "mad cow" makes sense you get the cannibals and shrieking bandits

      @HeroInHisHead  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      Yeah all my findings pointed to an initial madness due to Toxic Crops and then further decline due to Prion build up.

      @@HeroInHisHead There is a series of journals in the chests at cannibal capital from the viewpoint of a captive. After watching their family be hacked up and eaten and being forced to eat human meat by the cannibals the captive slowly becomes a meat-crazed cannibal over the course of about 26 days

      @larrybrock6811 the little brother didnt though? I don't think thats what occured. The little brother of the guy who wrote it is the leader of the cannibal hunters.

      @@HeroInHisHeadDo you think that kenshi has alot of bioaccumulation and thats why the cannibal plains devovled? Dont you think that the foul raw meat is because of mass bioaccumulation which might had an effect on local population,The Cannibal Plains were either a Light/Heavy Industry Hub or a farming breadbasket?

      Specifically, something like Kuru, which killed many of the Fore people of Papua New Guinea due to their practice of ritualistic funerary cannibalism. One of their members long ago likely developed sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, the misfolded prion protein which caused it then infected the family member who consumed their brain, spreading to that person. When their disease eventually killed them, someone if not multiple people ate their brain. The misfolded PRPSc protein would infect children and then go dormant for sometimes up to 50 years, sometimes only a few years, maybe 10 or so. They would die in much the same way as the ancestor whose brain they ate, and then their brain would be eaten, spreading the infectious protein to yet more people.

    Great video! You should consider doing an in-depth study on Tinfist! While many consider him to be one of Kenshi's greatest heroes he can also be considered one of the most destabilizing forces in Kenshi. If you do as Tinfist says and start taking out nobles, you'll quickly notice how quickly the UC falls into pure chaos, but if you turn in Tinfist to the UC they able to expand their territories and settle more dangerous areas; showing that the anti-slavers are impeding the nations progress. (Whether or not the UC deserves that is up to you.) Would be awesome to hear both sides of the argument.

    • @HeroInHisHead
      @HeroInHisHead  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      He is definitely and interesting and dichotomis character as while he is actively trying to end slavery, something great overall. He openly admits he kills more innocents than he helps in the process and is more than OK with that if it means he can kill more slavers. He is mad and obsessed to the point of almost being a villian himself due to his CPU burn out. Very good stuff

      6 month late comment.
      Yeah, it was crazy when I allied with anti slavers and told them i took care of the slave camps.
      Tinfist response was "great work" then talks about "bandits" starving. As if the slaves become free but then join bandits to survive. Meaning slavery = bad, freedom = good even in death. Super non chalant if humans die or not. He prolly lived so long he doesn't value human life just the prciple of freedom. That is cool.@@HeroInHisHead

    Another link which ties the Holy Nation to the Cannibal Plains are items found in the abandoned village. Found inside the buildings are an abundance of food, as well as Okranite religious items like the Holy Flame and those Lord Phoenix statues. Lots of food and religious iconography- 2 signature Holy Nation things. It leads me to believe that the Cannibal Plains either used to belong to the HN, or that the HN unsuccessfully tried to colonize the Cannibal Plains, possibly because the region has high green fertility that could be used for farming. This again draws inspiration from the history of the Roman Empire, more specifically the extremely short lived Roman province of Germania Antiqua, which Rome had to abandon after only controlling it for 12 years due to the extreme hostility of the Germanic tribes living there.

    Your reasoning is very good. Good theory, backed up by facts and lore. I agree with everything except the origin of the holy flame icon.
    Following your logic about real world historical parallels. The flame icon on the woman's belly reminds me of the mother goddess idea. The beliefs that sprang up independently, across several cultures and continents. The small stone female statuettes with large breasts and a big belly.
    My theory: After the fall of the first empire, people in the northwest, became hunter gatherer clans, in a subsistence culture. Worshiping pregnancy, birth and child rearing. Probably matriarchal.
    Then everything else you said, with the addition of, as a robot may cannibalize parts from a another, they may have encouraged people to supplement their diet with their dead, starting the cannibalism.
    The Holy nation would originate from people who escaped the northwest containment by the skeletons. If so, plenty of reasons to call them demons. I didn't connect the screaming bandits, that was very interesting.
    The holy nations prejudice against woman, maybe a perversion of the female cult, replacing what was with what should be. As the zealots remade their faith to explain past trauma.

    I actually love the idea of the second empire existing primarily in a nuclear winter because of how it parallels the imagery of the ashlands. I imagine a lot of skeletons would remember the empire as being always covered in a layer of snow. Now picture how much more melancholic and tragic it is to return to those ruins, now coated in ash instead, but still looking just like you remember them.

    Absolutely stellar video. Thank you for my much craved Kenshi lore injection. I have to say I never noticed the symbols on the cannibals. Nor had I ever considered the link between them and the shrieking bandits. Also the pointing out of the changing water levels and their relative effects on the first and second empires, as well as present day Kenshi is mind blowing.

      I appreciate that! I really try to dive into all facets of the game, and the inspirations behind it, to make sure everything is coherent and cohesive when documenting the lore. I have to make sure the cause and effect makes sense in the greater scheme, and part of that means making sure you know all of the overarching history and things going on, and how it relates to the topic you're exploring.
      As for Kenshi 2. I have some really high hopes for it as well. I can't wait to see how the lore evolves and the new details we get. Maybe I'll be able to update some of my other videos with newly uncovered information. Would be great.

    Building off several of your theories here. We don't quite know when things in the Second Empire started going wrong and when cwrtain events took place, just that they happened. What if the cannibals developed after the proto Holy Nation seperated from the Second Empire? That would lend credit to them knowing Holy Nation symbols, and would also explain why the skeletons don't know why the cannibals came to be. If I recall in game, there aren't many Second Empire ruins in the north which would indicate a lack of presence there. We also don't know when The Hydraulic Knights began fighting the Holy Nation and by extension the cannibals given their proximity to each other. If the cannibals came to be towards the end of the Second Empire, the skeletons may not have been differentiating by that point.
    Even the paint of the tribal males is reminicent of Holy Nation paladin armor in a way. As for the point on the Holy Flame being present on women, if the tribals realized that they were giving birth to Enforcers and still believed that women were giving birth to demons, in their ignorance painting the Holy Flame on their stomachs may have been a way to "consecrate" the women so to speak. Eventually, due to their seperation from Holy Nation society and the insanity developing among the tribes, the births of Enforcers would decrease and cause them to believe their tradition was working.

    A point of note on Cannibalism and insanity:
    Consumption of human meat alone would not cause insanity, the danger of that only comes in to play if we assume the cannibals are consuming the CSF (Cerebro-spinal-fluid); or if they eat the spine/brain.
    If their only interest is the meat itself, cannibalism would not have contributed to their mental degradation.

    The Cult of Stobe could have suffered a schism and split at some point of the revolt into the Okran and Narko denominations, the Okranites in a male dominated society led by the Phoenix in the fertile lands of the Holy Nation and the female inclusive or even dominated Narko branch led by the Great Wizard who did an exodus into the presumably fertile North West, where things went oh so very wrong.
