    Hello jourverse. I've been working with Unreal Engine for many years now and I was a VIP tutorial maker with UDK, (the first editor you could adapt assets and make your own stuff with). Once UE4 came along I lost interest a bit because it seemed too complicated. I started delving back into the engine around UE4.2 , (and I was a rocket tester for Epic Games when UE4 was in it's infancy) ... Up until UE5 I didn't do a lot other than develop a couple of mobile apps. Once UE5 came out I looked at the City Sample and thought wow, until I spoke to a friend @ Rockstar Games and he laughed at it's over complexity. I tried to work out the vehicle system to simplify it for my purposes but just got lost in all the junk that Epic had tagged onto it. That's until I watched your vehicle playlist. I can't express how much gratitude I owe you for your in-depth detail and excellent tutorial series. It's by far the best playlist on UE5 vehicles on TH-cam. Thank you my friend 🙂😎

      Hello @Seekanddestroygames. As I read, I truly admired your experience and expertise. I wanted to learn about this destruction system since the city sample project was first released on PC, but I gave up after trying to simplify the project for a few weeks. Six months later, I tried again and failed once more. A year later, I attempted it once again, and this time, I managed to simplify the project to get only the vehicle system. I'm glad that you liked this tutorial.

    Thank you very much! I made a mistake somewhere along the way and would appreciate some insight for this. The issue is that I cant get bumpers to detach and I think it is affecting the mirrors too. Went through the tutorial again and could not find the cause. Do you have a clue which function or missing asset(s) could be responsible for this? All the deformation is working correctly but bumpers dont get hidden/spawned at all and I dont get errors.

      I always admire the AI system in the Last of Us, with its realistic behavior, logic, and animation. They use motion matching for the animation, which I don’t know how to do yet. It would take a lot of learning and research to create such a complex AI system. I will give it a try when I have some time for it.

    I read that the *Vehicle Pack* is missing some components compared to what is found in the Full City Sample - more thorough / advanced destruction, if i recall.
    Do you know if this is true ?

      It's true, in the vehicle pack don't have the deformation. It only include vehicles 3d model and a simple vehicle movement component set up.

      ​@@elganzandere I demonstrated how to migrate some of the assets for this vehicle in this tutorial, but not all of them. This vehicle has many features and custom plugins that depend on each other, so migrating everything would cause errors.

    Why is adding car destruction to the CitySampleVehicle project worse than adding each component manually? The CitySampleVehicle project already has all the assembled cars with their own parts and settings, the only thing missing is destructible, sounds and animations. Isn't it easier to add this to CitySampleVehicle rather than transferring every part from CitySample? Or I don't understand, maybe there is some difference

      The CitySampleVehicle and CitySample full project are two different projects. They share the same car but have different skeletal meshes, leading to different systems. You can't simply add a few components to CitySampleVehicle to get the destruction working.

    Hello, I need your help with something. The car is getting deformed, which is not a problem, but the bumpers and such are not falling to the ground. What could be the reason for this?

      See if your skeleton bone after hit. Is the bumper bone fall? Check your physics asset or you might missing some blueprint for that skeleton mesh.

    I am 39:37 into the tutorial and after testing the car for the first time the car rolls and flips if you steer too much anyway to lessen this so it doesn't roll and flip when steering?

    At 1:10:48 when I collide with side of the other vehicle it doesn't deform only the front and back deforms. Is this normal?

      It is normal. The side of the vehicle only deform a little bit nearly can't notice. The material will highlight the damaged area of the vehicle for the next tutorial.

      Car Damage System will make your car look great and cover how to make your vehicle more deform. Door physics cover the simulation of the car doors, hood, Trunk when get hit. Recommend follow the order, because you might get lost because It is such a complex project.

      You should look at ABP_Proxy_Post_vehCar_vehicle03. I used to forget to connect the input pose to the base pose.

      @@elganzandere I have the same problem, I did everything according to the instructions, but the deformation does not work, only the bumper may fall off and the hood may be slightly damaged (even with very strong impacts). The front or rear hood doesn't bend halfway (as it should) and the doors don't warp at all either. You somehow fixed it. What could be the reason?

      Same here, it's the enable macro that crashes, you'll need to manually do it but don't copy and paste the macro

    I downloaded "City Sample Vehicles" from Marketplace. But this is not same your static mesh. For example, my model have just "Frame" but your model Frame included a lot static mesh?

      Your mistake is related to enhance input. You can multiply by -1 for set vehicle component throttle.

      You can but you need the 3d software to rig your car exactly the same bone as this project car. Moreover, you need to divided your car into many parts as this project.

    I did it carefully, checked every step, every name. But I only got cosmetic damage to the car and the front/rear bumper may fall off, and large deformations do not work, such as deformation of the front or rear of the car by half their size, the doors and roof are not deformed at all. I tried to accelerate very hard and put different blocks, hit with different parts of the car, and also hit another car with mine. As I understand it, my main skeleton is not movable.
    I also noticed a strange thing that the collision of the car is less than the visible boundaries of the car, that is, I can be a bumper inside the wall, but there will still be no collision. I checked PA_Collision_vehCar_vehicle03 and there are frame_front_body collisions there, I don’t know why the main skeleton doesn’t bend, I probably configured something wrong.
    Tomorrow I'll download CitySample again and try again in a completely new project. But I would like to add such cars in my project. Maybe you can tell me how I can find the problem and fix it, why the main skeleton does not move and why the collisions do not quite match?

      In my CR_Frame_Destructible the car can deform a lot more when I move the yellow spheres, so it's not related to the Min/Max restriction of bone movement. Also in your video the deformation is much greater in the front and rear (the hood is bent in half). I have very slight deformities

      I also noticed this strange thing: I increased the Min shift for the roof (it was too small), so that I could better see whether the roof was damaged. And when I fall, the roof is damaged just a little bit (as if the old small shift remained), but when I jump with a character onto the roof, it dents very strongly (to my minimum), and while I stand on it, the roof is still heavily damaged, but if I leave the roof, it returns back to its undamaged form.
      I also started checking all the events in order, and when the On Component Hit (Mesh) event occurs, the Hit Bone Name is displayed correctly, and None is always displayed for the Hit Hit Bone Name. Is this how it should be or is there something wrong here?

      Wait, I just reinstalled City Sample and in it Vehicle3 also does not deform sufficiently. There are no bends in the hood or large dents in the front, as was the case before and as in your video. So now significant deformation does not work in version 5.3?       I have done extensive research and testing on this issue. And in CitySample everything seems to work approximately as it should, although the bone collisions are still not solid (but this seems to be a subtlety in tuning the skeleton).
      And I checked the collisions of the imported skeleton as follows: I created a new Third Person project, migrated everything there like in this video, create a blueprint from the Wheeled Vehicle Pawn class, and just install the skeleton in the Mesh component and turn on physics simulation. And I do checks in Play mode Simulation. As a result, the collisions of this skeleton no longer work correctly and they can easily enter walls, interacting with them very poorly. At the same time, if in CitySample I create a blueprint class inherited from Wheeled Vehicle Pawn and also add the same skeleton there, turn on physics simulation, then the collisions on the front_body bones are quite solid. I checked all the physics settings in the projects, they were the same. But I eventually found a solution to this problem.
      SOLUTION:
      The DefaultEngine.ini configuration in the CitySample project has additional console settings for Chaos Solver that are not shown in the project settings. That is, you need to copy them from there and add them to YOUR project config in the DefaultEngine.ini file.
      I'll list them below so you don't have to look for them:

      As I understand it, the most important settings here for making collisions of the necessary bones hard are: Collision Priority and CollisionsStiffness. So don't forget to add this to your project so that car damage works the same way as in CitySample.

      It says this in enable control Rig and when I run the game, instead of deforming like yours, only the bumper moves back a little and stays in the car, the deformation is barely noticeable.

      It is possible that the material has not been assigned to the skeleton mesh of the vehicle. Or there maybe the error in your material of the vehicle.

      @@jourverse yes the physic have the right comportement ( the front bumper since wiggle ^^, the door move, the hood since like bend) , just the mesh don't follow i thing.

      @@Nefa_ I met this problem before, you may missing something. Check your Post Process Anim Blueprint of SKM_Proxy_vehCar_vehicle03 set it to ABP_Proxy_Post_vehCar_vehicle03. Or you missing any blueprint or set boolean variable wrong. I don't know where to start just double triple check everything.
