I think Grisha was in control. He told Eren “their memories will teach you how to use it”. Implying Grisha learned how to use the attack Titan through the memories of inheritors. Also he already would’ve had his first transformation as at the time, only a Titan could make it across the island

So basically the reason grisha saw zeke was because eren was standing behind him and showed grisha his memories of that moment, or I am just reading too much into it.
It's kinda like a two way street since the attack titan can see it's successor's memories and when someone inherits one of the nine they can see their predecessor's memories
@@nikkimiddlekillsday5161 In fact it can't see through the memories of the successors, it works the opposite way : the attack titan can share memories lf his own past to a predecessor. You may think it's the same thing, but actually it's really important to understand the difference : this is why Griesha couldn't see what happened to Carla, he evened said litterally "Eren why won't you show me everything", Eren decides what memory he's willing to share or not and this is how he controls all the timeline
Just realized something interesting... the whole reason the attack titan shows glimpses of future attack titans is because Eren is touching someone of Royal blood along with possessing the founding titan which allows him to be in the past, present, and future. That is the attack titans trait but it was EREN the whole time showing past attack titans small glimpses of the future to manipulate them all to lead up to the rumbling. It's not just some trait that comes with the attack titan but rather it was Eren and his manipulation from the start from the very first attack titan all the way to him to bypass the kings vow and start the rumbling. That's why Kruger was confused when he said Armins and Mikasas name when he was speaking to Erens dad before giving him the attack titan, it was Eren the whole time from the very beginning.
I believe the original ending and "biggest" plot twist of the manga was Eren being there during the creation of that world just for him, with the help of "the goddess". And I'll die on that hill.
@@leontoeides That sounds awesome can you elaborate like when this happens in the manga, how and why does it happen and why was eren to be at the beginning of the world or was he a god all along and who is the goddess?
I have a theory. Remember when Eren was in the jail cell and repeating “fight, fight” into the mirror? What if he was sharing those memories with the first ever attack titan and USED a mirror? We know that erens eyes work like projectors so he’d need a mirror to make it work

small note. i love that Zeke fell into calling Greisha father. even caught himself slip talking to eren. deep down hes a boy that just wants love from his father
i love how the attack titan and the founding titan are mirrors of each other - the founding titan is bound by the actions of the first user, and the attack titan is doomed by the actions of the last
Eren is clearly inspired by the characters of Muad'Dib and Leto II (III) from the DUNE novels. His "evil" actions are part of what in DUNE Muad'Dib calls "a terrible purpose". In order to save humanity and be free, sacrifices have to be made and the people are supposed to unite against a common "Evil". This was also used in Code Geass, but in the case of the Future and Past sights, it's clearly a DUNE thing which was also used in GOTs.
@@Monozomatlii Eren can see the past and the future. The Founding Titan Ymir exists in a plane called The Paths, a sort of Nexus where all of her descendants (The Eldians) are all connected through, by genetic memory if you will. All 9 Titans have special different abilities, the Attack Titan specially aside Physical power is indeed see the Past and the Future simultaneously. With the power of the Founding Titan, Eren can influence the actions of the Past Bearer of the Attack Titan through The Paths. But also see who would the new bearer of the Attack Titan will be in the future and influence whomever it is. Eren always wanted to eliminate the Titans, but saw the continued Marley and Eldia fighting in his visions. His unwavering desire for Freedom is a factor as he wants to be really free but also free humanity from the shackles that they make for themselves and others and the subsequent power struggles. So he decided that in order to do that he had to become the "Ultimate evil", the villain that Humans would unite against as well as making his friends the "Heroes". The idea of a hero having to become the villain for the greater good was made by Frank Herbert in 1965 in his DUNE novels and also the ability of the protagonist to develop the power to see past, present and Future simultaneously.
it's called negative integegration, and has countlessly appeared within human historically/politically, one doesn't have to read and be inspired from Dune to reach the same plot pattern
Isayama hasn't gone on record to say he was inspired by dune. In terms of English media he has gone on record to say he was inspired by the poem Paradise Lost, by John Milton. Apparently most of the media he said he was inspired were of Japanese origin (makes sense considering language barrier). Not all English media is consumed by Japan (whether there's a translation or not) its mere speculation as to whether he read it. Not all media is inspired by Dune.
This plot twist vindicates all of us who stuck around after season 2 when there were more questions than answers especially since it had been four years between season 1 and 2.
When Kruger commented on Armin and Mikasa, it left me with only one possibility what the Attack Titan's powers could be. What I didn't expect is how lost Eren already is at this point...
She has feels for the guy but is shy admiting, can't help the woman, besides, the titan can see future "memories" meaning it will happen no matter what
@@shizu-chan1646 nah I'd like to think eren has feelings for her. Eren sighs and replies to this saying it doesn't matter anyway because he' only got 4 years left until he dies. So even if he did have feelings for her, what could he do?
@@lemongeezer1157 Well yeah it’s obvious that he has feelings for her, but he rejected her early on in the series before he was willing to acknowledge those feelings

You’re talking about the same man who snitched on his parents to the law and sent them both to be executed via being eaten alive ... I doubt he cared about Eren as a brother, he was just using that to manipulate him but Eren pulled the Ultimate Reverse UNO on him and it was satisfying to see ... just sucks that so many good characters died in the end but ones that should’ve been canon fodder (like that brat girl who killed Sasha and her simp boyfriend) got to share a happy ending they didn’t deserve 😒😒😒
2:50 Zeke face is priceless, the man is scared beyond words He just realize that the worst was no the eldian, the marley or even the royal familly The worst was eren and he just enable him to activate his destiny
I find it funny how Eren's father was able to see Eren and is shown to be terrified of him even though he's Eren's father like Eren was reminding him "You know what you need to do, don't f*ck this up now or else."
Makes me wonder if Zeke was absolutely terrified at the power the attaxk titan held. Not only could the future inheritor minipulate past inheritors to action, but past inheritors can fully interact with and touch something that shouldn't physically be there in the past to begin with. If you were Zeke right then and there, you would be shitting yourself, because everything you've ever done, was already pre-planned from the very beginning, from your birth, to your childhood, to your adulthood. Everything, so long as there is an attack titan to inherit the power, not even the founder can see, minipulate, and force actions forward nor likely see those from the future nor interact with them in any way.
See the thing is, the reason the attack titan can do all this isn't because its the attack titan. Its because eren inherited it. Every person who saw the future was because eren appeared through the attack titan and so he influenced them all for the ending to be exactly how it was supposed to go.
it's like a paradox. eren didn't manipulate his father and zeke or let his mom die because of some flimsy personal gain. he saw the future and he let it happen like what it should be because that's the only way out of years of imprisonment. he sacrificed himself for the freedom of his loved ones.
Guys at 3:47, when grisha says "stop eren" and they show the shot when he kissed historian's hand. Does that mean he was asking Zeke to stop eren from showing the future memories to the past eren? And that's when the show took it's plot?
At this point he wanted Eren not to destroy the world and for Zeke to stop him. He said as long as his family is safe. But then when he found out his new wife Karla died from the titans (from Marleys actions) he changed his mind again, and gave Eren the attack titan
It is generally said by eren Kruger (correct me if I'm wrong) that the only titan that can foresee the future is the attack titan. And the only dilemma of it is, eren doesn't possess royal blood (and eldian with the royal blood, only knows the vow of the king fritz, after the passing of the founding titan). And the only one that can decide for the future is the attack titan (which is currently in Eren's possession). At the time Eren kissed Historia's hand, that's where the future makes sense to him. So there's a possibility that the story of AOT is based on Eren's future decision. So I guess not a huge plot twist, but a huge realization in the story that everyone (including me) didn't even realize, because it didn't make sense at the beginning.
With Eren Kruger seeing memories of Eren, when he talked to Grisha about Armin and Mikasa, that means he could send memories back as far as informing the attack titan during the uprising of marley against eldia to hide. And since Ymir once was an attack titan, he could have even send her a message, that he would be the one who ends her pain.
Well, i would be like that as well, if someone made me kill many of my own kind without me even knowing, and then deciding to kill all the rest who is still alive.
@@ame-chan579 You're a little behind. The power of the Titans finally dies with Eren, it's his "big" plan. Notice how all of season 4 they slowly turned him into almost a unlikeable character. Surely from the start you'd hate him for who he is today, but man if you ain't caught up you're about to start really not liking Eren and how he treats Armin and Mikasa. Edit: I recaught up with the show, now I'm plain worried for how this is all gonna go down. I know the events of what happens but thankfully idk the details. So much for "Final season, p3 the last part" god damnit man.
Crazy to think about how influential Eren’s desire for Freedom is. He is the reason the Attack Titan craves it so heavily, and Ymir (the Founder) waited 2000 YEARS for him to free her too - their collective desire culminating in the Rumbling.
Eren saw all of this in s3 through his fathers memories: he not only saw Grisha killing the royal family in Grisha’s POV, but he heard his future self’s voice manipulate Grisha and saw Grisha in future Eren’s POV, he saw all of the memories of future Eren’s future including the rumbling that future Eren sent him, he saw Grisha run away in the first person, he saw Grisha hug Zeke in the third person through Eren’s POV. And at that moment the Founding Titan’s powers caused Eren to lose his perception of time as there is no past and future for the Founder, everything’s happening at the same time and I think the reason Eren couldn’t change the future was because it already happened to him multiple times: as a future memory, in the present, and as a past memory.
I would argue no, Erwin might side with Eren. Not even Erwin can devise a situation where 200+ nations can negotiate was bloodless peace, too many moving pieces. Erwin motivation was to undo the greed of the old government and enlightened the truth to the people. Marley had 100 years to manipulate the world against Eldia, that not simple reversible. Also Eldia was 100 years behind in everything, at best it would take them 50 years to catch up
Imo he'd basically take flochs place in the story. All his comrades died because of the people beyond the sea and I think he'd want just as much as eren to wipe them all out
Eren is still one of the most interesting characters in fiction. He was like this from the beginning, since he was a child. Way before he gained future memories or even received trauma of his mother being eaten by titans. Eren stabbed two slavers to death just on his own as a child and convinced Mikasa to finish the last one.
I don't know if anyone have realised that but Eren represents priority vs morality. When he killed the two people at young age many people was saying it was erens nature. But see it another perspective it also represents he chose priority over morality. A morality bound person like armin could not kill the kidnappers. Its just foreshadowing when time will come Eren will always choose priority over morality. The world will always be against you when you choose priority over morality. As ots your choice but morality is every human beings choice.
But what’s wrong with that? There is absolutely nothing wrong with preserving your own life! Those kidnappers had already killed Mikasa’s father to kidnap her and her pregnant mother to sell them into slavery, people like that once they choose to take someone else’s life shouldn’t be shocked when their own are taken away by someone like Mikasa.
@@LadyLeomon Nothing wrong with it. Observing how and why something happens does not equate imparting morality - and fact to do so is objectiveness. In fact - though no fault of you - to even assume there is something wrong, illustrate a subjective point of view... which unfortunately is shaped by our society; a forced "justice". Again, it's not because of our weakness, but because our societies demand us to be subjective despite claiming we must be objective, hidden under the guise of "morality".

Take away the titans, powers and the paths and he basically has scitzophrenia and the insane level of stress has completely brought it to the surface. hearing voices that aren't there but it insists that he needs to kill them, and seeing people that don't exist. He stabs himself to focus on something that isn't the terror of what he's about to do. I think the amnesia bit he said he had wasn't a lie. After what he went through that day, it would be understandable. In fact all the Yeager men don't have a good track record of being mentally sound, either breaking later in life or born socio/psychopathic (which some can grow out of, which eren does to some degree of success). @@nikkimiddlekillsday5161 In fact it can't see through the memories of the successors, it works the opposite way : the attack titan can share memories lf his own past to a predecessor. @@lionnoir1592 but don't the nine titan successors inherit the predecessors memories

Is the concept of "terrible purpose" originated from DUNE?
@@BlankerWitt1 DUNE was published in 1965 by Author Frank Herbert, so I would say yes.
@@Monozomatlii Eren can see the past and the future.

Watching this immediately reminded me of that one scene when Historia said it wasn't Eren's fault behind her family's death 😭
2:51 Zeke with the scared pikachu face 😮
it's like a paradox. eren didn't manipulate his father and zeke or let his mom die because of some flimsy personal gain. he saw the future and he let it happen like what it should be because that's the only way out of years of imprisonment. he sacrificed himself for the freedom of his loved ones.
So his dad had a whole complex about his Hippocratic oath. That's great.
if Hippocrates was in the AoT universe it would've been Galen that invented the Titans I reckon
I'd like to imagine that Isayama woke up one day and saw a 19 year old emo kid with anger issues staring at him saying:

Guys at 3:47, when grisha says "stop eren" and they show the shot when he kissed historian's hand. Does that mean he was asking Zeke to stop eren from showing the future memories to the past eren? And that's when the show took it's plot?

This plot twist was insane. Literally never would’ve expected that holy shit.
Eren: I am not in danger. I am the DANGER.
it's not manipulation. it's just cheering up his father. Hey dad! let's gooo, you can do it.
I did it for me. I liked it, i was *good* at it. It made me feel free.
God I wish I could forget everything about this series and watch it again
With Eren Kruger seeing memories of Eren, when he talked to Grisha about Armin and Mikasa, that means he could send memories back as far as informing the attack titan during the uprising of marley against eldia to hide. And since Ymir once was an attack titan, he could have even send her a message, that he would be the one who ends her pain.
This moment made me realize that Eren was my favorite character.
Eren has always been like this, he just switched enemies from titans to the world
Well, i would be like that as well, if someone made me kill many of my own kind without me even knowing, and then deciding to kill all the rest who is still alive.
Isayama had the greatest weed in the world fr

Crazy to think about how influential Eren’s desire for Freedom is. He is the reason the Attack Titan craves it so heavily, and Ymir (the Founder) waited 2000 YEARS for him to free her too - their collective desire culminating in the Rumbling.
Zeke: So when you said you were disgusted by this memory, were you lying about that too?
Eren: 👁 👁
Eren was disgusted with his father for hesistating to kill the reiss family. Not for slaughtering them.
This moment overshadowed anything before of after, the peak of AOT was this episode

If **Erwin** was still alive do you guys think he'd agree with Eren's genocide? I'm not sure.
He definitely wouldn't
It's Erwin's death what led Eren to do so. Erwin would have come up and executed a better plan. Something Hange or Armin couldn't.
All his comrades died because of the people beyond the sea and I think he'd want just as much as eren to wipe them all out
Erwin's dream was just to prove that the Titans were once human beings not sure what he would want after that.
"I've been like this since I was a Kid"

I found Grisha's monologue after he killed the children heartbreaking, he was on the verge of becoming mentally unstable
He was stable enough after this incident to provide food for his son till the day he died.
Mentally unstable? Only now? He's been unstable probably for years _especially_ given his life.
