      This is my review
      iPad - a beginning device for people who just want a consumption device and don’t care about the specs
      iPad mini - a portable device for people on the move and something you take anywhere, mainly for little children
      iPad Air - people on a budget and want a good m1 chip, good for students
      iPad Pro - for people who are creators and need the extra power, mainly for creators and students
      These are changes i would like for the iPad line up:
      iPad mini should be added to the iPad Pro lineup
      iPad Air just shouldn’t exist
      And iPad is fine on its own
      So in total:
      iPad Pro lineup - 8.9”, 11”, 12.9”
      iPad lineup - just the 10.5” model

    The 120hz is not a big deal. Unless you like wasting money.
    Another thing to keep in mind, tech is always improving. Two years ago 600 dollars would’ve gotten you something half as good. Two years from now you might get something twice as good. Unless the new iPad is coming within a couple months, it doesn’t make sense to always wait for the next big thing. Consider all the time you would’ve had a tool like the iPad but didn’t because you were waiting. It might be priceless if you have a business or are you college.

    • @tbonedude12
      @tbonedude12 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      120hz is totally a big deal but it is not necessary for everybody. It will be a worthwhile reason to get the pro next release when they have the m2. 120hz screens are a lot nicer though, I wouldnt try and deny that

    • @ca_lcium
      @ca_lcium ปีที่แล้ว +3

      120Hz is a very big deal, but only if you're used to it. My other smart devices all have a 120Hz screen referesh rate, so going back to 60Hz is extremely jarring, especially if I'm using two devices in tandem. Now, am I ready to pay 200€ extra just for a bigger refresh rate? Probably not.

    I am an avid iPad Pro 12.9 user. I loved the Blue Air so much that I bought it with the full intention of returning it before the 2 week period. I couldn’t stand the lack of 120hz on my mini. I honestly have to say this tablet has really been such an amazing purchase there’s no way I’d return it. I use it with the magic keyboard for work alongside my 14 inch Pro - and my 12.9 inch M1 iPad Pro is my main computer - I do all my creative stuff on there, recording demo tracks, writing music, playing games. The point of the story is that specs really aren’t enough to create an ‘honest’ review. Everyone has a different use case. It is a beautiful little machine and the trade offs vs the Pro are negligible depending on what you use it for. As much as I’d LOVE ProMotion on it, it has not in anyway hindered my experience. The excellent gpu in it makes it feel so responsive anyway.

    Here are my thoughts:
    If ProMotion 120 refresh rate (for people who have ProMotion iPhone 13 Pros and MacBook Pros) and Face ID are important to you, the iPad Pro is optimal. If screen brightness is important, the 12.9-inch version is the best of the best.
    For most consumers (meaning they probably have non-pro iPhones), the iPad Air is the sweet spot. For example, for someone who doesn't want the somewhat dated look of the base iPad, and they want colours and access to Apple Pencil 2, this is great for those people. It's for people who don't find it necessary to jump up to the Pro just for taking some notes and watching some content, which doesn't require more than 64GB. If you're a heavy app user, then the Pro is the better choice, especially for storage.
    The iPad Mini is for those who want the iPad Air in the smallest size.
    The base iPad is basically the SE of the iPad lineup, it has the main features, but not the most advanced ones.

    Truly appreciate this video!!!! I was absolutely torn on what to upgrade too from my iPad Pro 1st Gen since I had only been able to grab it at 64GB at the time and for digital illustration that's a super limiting storage space. Especially since half of that storage is automatically gone to the operating system. Your review saved me tons- the ProMotion, Face ID, and Higher Refresh Rate for the pen are super cool features I would have missed entirely being not as tech literate. Grabbed myself a 256GB 2021 Pro and am super happy 👍

    I have a 13 Pro Max and the iPad Air 5. I can say from my personal use that swapping back and forth from the Pro Max to the Air 5 doesn’t feel as though it’s as big of a deal as described, especially considering how often the Pro Max’s refresh shifts to conserve battery life.. I guess it comes down to personal preference but shouldn’t be a deal breaker.

    As an 13 Pro iPhone user I do not notice the difference between the displays when going between the iPad Air 5 and the phone. I have tried the iPad Air 5, 2020 11” Pro, the iPad mini 6 and finally realized the 2022 Air is the way to go for me. I never use the camera on any iPad except for maybe scanning docs and thought the new iPad mini was the device I wanted because of the portability, so I sold the 11” Pro. I enjoyed it as a consumption device but after a few months of use I realized I missed the ability to attach a keyboard and do “stuff”. I am one who sells the older device when I get a newer one and did not have the 11” Pro to go back and try so it was around that time when Apple announced the new Air and I decided to purchase it when the pre orders came out. It has been a few weeks now and I am really enjoying it using it with the Logitech Touch Folio keyboard, I do think I have what I want and should be happy for years to come.

It doesn’t have Face ID which I would want really for Animoji not authentication. Touch ID worked totally fine. I also needed 256 gigabytes so I would have to spend $200 to get the iPad pro. The iPad Air is a nice tablet and I would definitely recommend it.

      Exactly my thoughts.
      I understand it is much worth to buy iPad Pro 128GB than iPad Air 256GB, but 128GB storage I don't think it would even last for the next 5 years.
      Plus I don't need high refresh rate display (coming from using iPhone 11, old MacBook ), I rarely uses camera on the iPad, I have better bluetooth speakers or AirPods so the speaker setup I really doesn't matter.
      Plus if I really do want to get iPad Pro, I will get the 12.9 inch for the sake of the mini-LED display, that's it.

    The purpose of having products that are slightly worse than the top end of the scale is to get people to buy the top end. This always works with three or more choices. If there was no mid-range product, some of those who buy the Pro now would only buy the entry-level model. Empirical research on purchasing decisions.

    Apple are masters at upselling their own products, the fact that 128 gb version of the Air doesn’t exist proves it. The base model Air (64 gb) is great value for money though if you can make that storage work, the 256 gb not so much when compared to the Pro. Apple knows exactly what they are doing by convincing people to spend more money by upgrading to the Pro. Obviously the Pro is better than the Air, but it’s in a different price range. Yes it’s “only” $200 more to upgrade, but you need to ask yourself if you initially were going to spend that much.

  • @bradnelson3595
    @bradnelson3595 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Amazon has the 2022 iPad air (64GB) for $569.00. So make that about a $180.00 difference for the $749.00 Amazon price on the 2021 iPad Pro (128GB). $180.00 isn't nothing but it would be you a lot more pad. ProMotion is a nice thing to have. But it seems logical that if you're going to spring beyond the very good big-bezel base model to get the M1 chip then you might want to get the pad that makes real use of it.

    Honestly, I don’t think 120 Hz is that much of a big deal for MY usage. I’m on an original 12.5’’ iPad Pro writing this, which still works great, and to ME, the screen size is much more important than the refresh rate, and I DO have an iPhone 13 Pro just beside it to compare. I use my iPad mostly for couch media consumption, and while this work, I’ll stick to my old timer. Honestly, if Apple could come with a simple cheap 15’’ iPad, I’ll be more than happy to spend my money on it. I don’t need a sophisticated back camera system - none at all would be just fine with me - and I don’t need OLED at 120 Hz. And I don’t need a power house to edit 4K videos on it either. Gaming is not my stuff. Just bring me big screen. The biggest the better.

      Is the refresh rate super fast though. I was checking out the iPad pros at Best Buy and they were like so fast to the point where I couldn’t even see when I was sliding through the apps. I actually hated it. It was like a blur. I just bought myself a MacBook Pro and only need an iPad for taking notes in college and keeping everything on there. The iPad Air is always in a weird place as compared to the base iPad Pro model. You just save some money but you also lose a lot of features. It’s Apple’s clever way to upswell you to a more expensive model. It’s a shame that the 11-inch didn’t get the mini-LED display, that display is crazily good except for some blooming issues in pitch dark environment (the one on the MacBook Pro 2021 is much better with regard to blooming.)

      Tbh, I don't think 120hz is nearly as important on a tablet as on a smartphone or monitor. The ipad air and my previous tablet at 60hz feel plenty smooth. However, when running my 120hz phone at 60hz, those same animations are noticeably choppier and less smooth overall. Additionally if you're primarily using your tablet for media consumption and gaming, you're more than likely not taking much advantage of the 120hz display anyways. The pro motion display really shines when you're frequently using applications that will support that refresh rate like when doing art.

I have the Air 4, which is still perfect for what I use it for, & having received the M1 iMac for Christmas, there just seems no need to upgrade. I even still have an iPad 6 & iPad 8, both going strong. The iPad Air 5, starting at 64GB is pathetic, & the cost to upgrade to 256GB is nearly criminal (although I did with the Air 4...). A 128GB would be the sweet spot for most people. Honestly, creating all this confusion benefits Apple. A lot of people will say what the hell, and upgrade to the pro for "just" $150. Boy you sure did hit it right on the head when you said Apple is intentionally blocking the M1 chip to perform like the iPad Pro M one. But No one mentions that the regular iPad nine chargers at 18 watt and the air charge is at 20 W so in order to get fast charging you have to go to the pro anyway. So if you do play games Roblox stuff that choose all your battery fast it doesn’t make any sense to buy nothing but the pro. Because what is ultimately going to be the deciding factor is the charging speed which nobody seems to look at. Or care about. Coming from my iPad eight that thing takes four hours to charge 0 to 100
