Sadly even the iPad air 4 is a better deal because you can get an Apple refurbished one for even less with better screen and 2nd generation pencil support.
One of the biggest buyers of the base iPad is schools. The choices here are geared towards them. A non-laminated display is ideal since kids break screens all the time. Repairing a non-laminated display involves just replacing the glass. A broken laminated display means the entire display needs to be replaced, so it’s a huge money saver. Schools also have tons of Apple Pencil 1’s, so it saves them from having to buy new Pencils. The Pencil 2 couldn’t be used anyway since the camera blocks where a charger would go. That Pencil 2 will likely be discontinued when Apple updates the Pros next time around with a new Apple Pencil 3 and the other iPads are updated for the landscape camera. People on TH-cam tend to be Pro users, so this iPad is not for us. Using the Pencil 1 isn’t ideal for us, but for upgraders from prior base iPads who already own a Pencil 1, this is another cost savings. Schools also can’t buy refurbished products, either, since support is mandatory. The Air 4 is out as an option for them.
Im a student too and I purchased iPad 10 , really you dont need an upgrade to iPad air 5 , as a student u dont need much, and iPad 10 provides everything u need and it gives actually a very great experience. I dont understand the hype for iPad air 5, why spend so much money on something which is only slightly different and pretty similar to something much cheaper and affordable
Also regarding Apple 2nd gen Pencil, you can find third party pens compatible with all iPads in general and save money , and the difference between them and an original one is not visible

I literally just bought the iPad Air 5 on the fly because I needed a tablet and when I was looking last year, I was torn between it and the Pro. The thing that really got me was the fact it uses Touch ID, which is something I've missed in the newer iPhones (I don't like Face ID). I appreciate the way you did the breakdown; it was easy to understand, objective, and I feel like I can tell I made the right choice for myself. I also was planning to use it for art and notes, so finding out that it's better for the pencil usage is also a bonus.
I have to come show some love for the iPad 10! I have been loving it, I am a law student and it came just in time while I am prepping for finals. My experience has been great, no complaints! It is responsive, big screen, bright colors, and so fun to use to take notes on... Seamless connection between Outlook on my Mac and on my iPad. My fiend got the ipad air 5th and we study together really i have not noticed any major difference for our purposes at least :)

Anyone who buys a tablet with the intention of playing has negative qi, as it was not developed for that purpose. We bought it with the intention of studying and drawing as a hobby. Those who need it for professional use have already bought the PRO, not the Air. So no, it doesn't make any difference in everyday life.
Currently here in Australia the iPad 10 256g is $997, Air 5 256g is $1157 and the 11 inch iPad Pro 256g is $1199. Makes it hard to justify the iPad 10. The Apple Pencil 2nd gen is $219.

It's the same deal roughly here in Canada. 10 w/ 64 is $600, 10 with 256 or Air 5 with 64 is $800, Air 5 with 256 gb is $1,000. All of these are pre-tax, which is 13% here in Ontario. Then you may need to add $130 or $165 if you want Apple Pencil or Apple Pencil 2.
Well, Aussie & Nz dollars pretty much sucks for the value so I suppose its more or less the same price like the states plus maybe with way more sales tax added to it.
iPad 10 is 380€ here and air 5 is 530€ (and that’s a deal already; more 600 standard retail) here; such a massive price difference that the iPad 10 is definitely the better choice for me personally. So I do have to disagree with the video description: Air is not worth paying 150-200€+ more. That is a ton of money.
Here in Greece, the iPad 10th gen costs 630€ (equivalent to 626.25 USD) for the base 64GB model, while the iPad Air 5 can now be found for 700€. And let’s be honest, the iPad 10 by its own is not at all worth 630€, so this pricing really gets wonky. I’m still saving up for an Air.

I have also similar prices in austria here, but the iPad 10 with 256GB for 730€ or the Air 5 64GB for 650€ (or as "cheapest" option the base iPad 10 für 540€) But ANY Air 5 is hard to get actually, most are out of stock. Also, there is no way besides ordering directly at apple to get hands on a Pencil 1 or 2. Im torn between iPad 10 256GB and Air 5 with 64GB or go on heavy budget and just the base iPad 10 I just need it for drawing so im still leaning towards the Air for the better screen without the big gap between glass and LCD panel. Here in Singapore the iPad 10 costs $449 for 64GB and $599 for 256GB; and the iPadAir 5 costs $879 for 64GB and $1099 for 256GB. I got iPad Air 5 at $1029 at Education pricing, loving it so far but occasionally experiencing touchscreen lag which is quite annoying :(
I went with the iPad 10. I have the first generation of Apple Pencil. I would have not only spent $100 more but I would have needed the new Apple Pencil for $130. The differences in chip and other things make little difference to me as an illustrator and TH-cam watcher. Especially when considering the 10th generation is a huge upgrade from my 6th generation iPad 😅

@@himkaay I do illustrate. Personally, I went with the 10 option because I already had the Apple Pencil to go with it. It was also more affordable at the time. If you want to save some money and have the first gen Apple Pencil I would go with that. If you’re needing to buy an Apple Pencil I would probably save up and get whatever iPad would work with the new Apple Pencil and get the newer Apple Pencil, simply because I’m not sure how much longer the first gen will be good for. I think the later generation of Apple pencil will be supported longer.
OML we are in exactly the same situation!! I’m a college student and I have the 6th generation iPad and a knockoff version of the Apple Pencil (it cost like 6€ and it works SUPER well, very happy) and I am torn between the 10th gen and the air 5… but I think imma go with the 10th generation since it’s cheaper and I would be able to get the 256 Gb version! Meaning it would last me a LONG time before I have to get a new one :)) considering how well this one is holding on!

Apple is a complete scam all around. They hook you with nice first impressions and software and then fck you over with laughably overpriced hardware (whose lack of repairability and the economical and ecological damage it does is broadly know at this point) and making it hard to leave their eco system.
iPad 10 starts at 691 USD in my country Norway. When I saw that, I was quick to oder the Air 5 at the old price. I was the last one who got it from that net-store. 2 minutes later it was nowhere to be found at the old price. Pleased with that decision 😊
I was debating on the iPad 10th gen because it's cheaper; but I will definitely go for the iPad Air 5 since I like smooth graphics with gaming and such. And I want to go back to school, so charging the pen on the side is less hassle. Thanks for making this video. 👏🏻
I'd love to buy an iPad Air but I really want the landscape-oriented camera because I have many video calls and the portrait mode camera just won't cut it. Too bad, so sad.
I really like the new camera placement on the iPad 10 but it's probably the reason for the goofy setup with the pencil. In my mind that's not a worthwhile tradeoff so I agree with you, the iPad Air 5 is the better choice, even at the full US retail price (the discounted price makes it a no brainer).
In Australia the ipad costs are: (1 AUD = 0.65 USD) Air 5 = A$999 = 645.65 US 10th Gen = A$749 - 484.08 US 9th Gen - A$549 = 354.82 US I'm staying with the Air 4 and mini 6, both i got within the last 15 mths or so and do everything I would need. I have recommended for students at work they get the 9th gen as it would save the headache of changing PCOS lockers to usb-c from lightning.
@Lovely_Boa If I was going to purchase a new iPad now I would get the Air 5, just because the Apple pencil 2 and then I wouldn't have to deal with the pairing issues of the pencil 1. As I use my ipad for digital planning and writing on the laminate screen is better than on the 10th gen, as this has a similar screen to mini 5, I had before getting the Mini 6. It comes down to what you want to use the ipad for and what is your budget. I use the mini 6 at work, as I can't hold the ipad 7/8th gen that work has issued to me due to my RSI, so got my own. the Air 4 is used for digital planning and NDIS plan management. I wont be upgrading for about 2 or more years.
Here in Indonesia, starting at 64gb at online stores, iPad 10 costs 550 USD, air 5 costs 590 USD while air 4 apple refurbished costs 470 USD (last month I bought it for 440 USD). It will never make any sense here as to why anyone would go for the 10 :/
In Colombia where I am located it cost $560 USD...now I feel much better thinking that on the opposite part of the world cost pretty much the same...I was thinking that here we were getting scammed.
I feel like Apple made their lineup so the air 5 can upscale people to buy that instead of the ipad 10, and the iPad Pro is to upscale people who are buying the air 5

In the Philippines exactly if u want the cheap iPad 10th Generation it will cost ₱29,990 equivalent to $449. And if you want the Cheap iPad Air it will cost ₱39,990 equivalent to $599.
Here in Canada, the wifi model is $599 CAD for 64GB, and $799 in 256GB. I got the 256GB wifi model with education pricing so it’s $759, and the pencil 1st gen is $115 in education pricing as well! It’s a really good deal considering the 256GB Air 5 costs a thousand. Only needed an iPad for note taking, reading sheet music, occasional media consumption and gaming so I think the 10th gen is a great deal.
This is how I'm leaning. I have a setup that will ensure I won't have an issue charging the Apple Pencil 1st gen, I like the balance between specs and storage at $799 CDN, and (while it's not a primary factor, it makes me happy) I'm in love with the bright colors for this line. It's two chips above what Honkai Star Rail (the main game I'll be playing on it when it releases later this year) has listed for iOS mobile, it's gonna be a great size for working in procreate, and it'll be ideal for digital journaling and planning. I'm not buying for a few more weeks, but when I weigh out the pros and cons, this generally seems like My best bet. Could totally be different for others, though.
Regarding the laminated display, you don't notice how good it is until you use it. Then it's hard to go back to non-laminated! Just upgraded my wife's iPad 9 to the Air 5 (on sale for $450 before $185 trade-in). Now she's future-proofed, has a great display and will still be better than the iPad 11 coming out next month for the same money it will cost at launch.
I bought an iPad Air 5 the day after introduction of iPad 10 (in Czech republic), at the time iPad 10 was for about 610 USD and the iPad Air was for 690 USD, then in a few days the iPad Air 5 went up to 790 USD

One other difference I have noticed is that when sharing screen zoom meetings and writing on the screen...the m1 handles it well...where as any lesser apple chips tend to stop sharing or get interrupted

In my country, Portugal, according to the apple website, the ipad 10th gen stars at 599€ and the iPad Air stars at 799€. But in tech stores like best buy you can find the iPad Air for 649€, so it’s hard to justify the ipad 10th gen
I think the Ipad Air looks great, but I don't like that the base model only offers 64GB, and you can only upgrade to 256GB... by that point, you're close to paying for an Ipad Pro...

I know, this video was recorded long time ago, but this is still an issue today. In Hungary the pricing is so much different for example, the diff between this 2 devices is close to 250 $. With this gap u can buy for the ipad 10 th gen a keyboard included case and a pencil from logitech. Outside the US the pricing is so much different and i think maybe overpriced. I just wanted to share my view about this issue. I hope in the upcoming events Apple will reduce the prices back to where it was a year ago and with it they can get more costumer and keep the profit with less price but more sells.
honestly i think the ipad 10 is just fine for my purposes, i'm a student and i mostly take notes, study, watch videos, or draw on procreate and i already have a first gen pencil so even less money to spend
In germany the Air 5 costs 800€, the iPad 10 550€ and the iPad 9 340€. I still went for the 10 because I want stereo Speakers and the sleeker design. I don't need the fast M1 since I only use it for media consumption.

Because many people upgrading to the iPad 10 are upgrading from a later generation iPad so they most likely already own the Apple Pen gen 1 so to market off of that they sell the $9 adapter

I'm thinking of getting an ipad for gaming. Ipad pro 12.9 is way too big for gaming because I love gamig while holding the ipad leaning back on bed. The choice would be iPad Air 5 or newest iPad Pro 11 inch. Which one should I get?
the primary difference between the air 5 and the new pro is the 120 hz refresh rate so the pro will seem “faster”- the m2 pro *from what i’ve seen* doesn’t preform all that much different from the m1; yea the geek bench stuff says otherwise but i think in actual performance it’s not that much better,,, i think a good compromise would be the 11 inch m1 pro from last year, you still get the fast refresh but you also don’t get what’s basically the same chip performance for more- if the refresh rate doesn’t matter to you then go for the air 5

In Ukraine iPad Air 5 base model starts at $605 while both iPad 10th Gen and iPad Air 4 start at $599. Of course the price of the new iPad will drop eventually, but for now it's not worth it at all.

The usual price in Bulgaria for an iPad Air 5 65bg is $868 tho there are more reliable stores with reasonable prices so I got mine for $750. I personally like the air version more and since I’m found of digital art and enjoy video games it does best for me.
My particular iPad 10 was purchased for $400 flat on an Amazon deal, which I feel Apple should have set its base MSRP to (at the very most). This is a lot like the XR when it launched. $750 was way too high for a device of its tier at the time. Apple reduced it to $600 after a year (which it should have launched at) and I was able to nab it for $550

Currently looking in comparison between these 2 model, iPad 10 256GB version on RM2849 (Current Rate USD665) and iPad 5 Air 256GB version on RM3649 (Current Rate USD852), but there's ongoing Sales by the local Reseller on iPad Air 5 which makes the price drop to RM3299 (USD770), making it more attractive than iPad 10.

I have to come show some love for the iPad 10! I have been loving it, I am a law student and it came just in time while I am prepping for finals. My experience has been great, no complaints! It is responsive, big screen, bright colors, and so fun to use to take notes on... Seamless connection between Outlook on my Mac and on my iPad. My fiend got the ipad air 5th and we study together really i have not noticed any major difference for our purposes at least :)

Anyone who buys a tablet with the intention of playing has negative qi, as it was not developed for that purpose. We bought it with the intention of studying and drawing as a hobby. Those who need it for professional use have already bought the PRO, not the Air. So no, it doesn't make any difference in everyday life.
Currently here in Australia the iPad 10 256g is $997, Air 5 256g is $1157 and the 11 inch iPad Pro 256g is $1199. Makes it hard to justify the iPad 10. The Apple Pencil 2nd gen is $219.
In NZ the ipad 10 and air 5 are the same price (1199 for 64gb air, and 256gb 10) I thought the regular ipad was supposed to be the affordable option 😅
That makes it hard to justify any new iPad. I feel like going used would be the right way to go.

It's the same deal roughly here in Canada. 10 w/ 64 is $600, 10 with 256 or Air 5 with 64 is $800, Air 5 with 256 gb is $1,000. All of these are pre-tax, which is 13% here in Ontario. Then you may need to add $130 or $165 if you want Apple Pencil or Apple Pencil 2.
Well, Aussie & Nz dollars pretty much sucks for the value so I suppose its more or less the same price like the states plus maybe with way more sales tax added to it.
iPad 10 is 380€ here and air 5 is 530€ (and that’s a deal already; more 600 standard retail) here; such a massive price difference that the iPad 10 is definitely the better choice for me personally.
So I do have to disagree with the video description: Air is not worth paying 150-200€+ more. That is a ton of money.
Here in Greece, the iPad 10th gen costs 630€ (equivalent to 626.25 USD) for the base 64GB model, while the iPad Air 5 can now be found for 700€. And let’s be honest, the iPad 10 by its own is not at all worth 630€, so this pricing really gets wonky. I’m still saving up for an Air.

I have also similar prices in austria here, but the iPad 10 with 256GB for 730€ or the Air 5 64GB for 650€ (or as "cheapest" option the base iPad 10 für 540€)
But ANY Air 5 is hard to get actually, most are out of stock. Also, there is no way besides ordering directly at apple to get hands on a Pencil 1 or 2.

Here in Singapore the iPad 10 costs $449 for 64GB and $599 for 256GB; and the iPadAir 5 costs $879 for 64GB and $1099 for 256GB. I got iPad Air 5 at $1029 at Education pricing, loving it so far but occasionally experiencing touchscreen lag which is quite annoying :(

I went with the iPad 10. I have the first generation of Apple Pencil. I would have not only spent $100 more but I would have needed the new Apple Pencil for $130. The differences in chip and other things make little difference to me as an illustrator and TH-cam watcher. Especially when considering the 10th generation is a huge upgrade from my 6th generation iPad 😅

@@himkaay I do illustrate. Personally, I went with the 10 option because I already had the Apple Pencil to go with it. It was also more affordable at the time. If you want to save some money and have the first gen Apple Pencil I would go with that. If you’re needing to buy an Apple Pencil I would probably save up and get whatever iPad would work with the new Apple Pencil and get the newer Apple Pencil, simply because I’m not sure how much longer the first gen will be good for. I think the later generation of Apple pencil will be supported longer.
OML we are in exactly the same situation!! I’m a college student and I have the 6th generation iPad and a knockoff version of the Apple Pencil (it cost like 6€ and it works SUPER well, very happy) and I am torn between the 10th gen and the air 5… but I think imma go with the 10th generation since it’s cheaper and I would be able to get the 256 Gb version! Meaning it would last me a LONG time before I have to get a new one :)) considering how well this one is holding on!

iPad 10 starts at 691 USD in my country Norway. When I saw that, I was quick to oder the Air 5 at the old price. I was the last one who got it from that net-store. 2 minutes later it was nowhere to be found at the old price. Pleased with that decision 😊

I'd love to buy an iPad Air but I really want the landscape-oriented camera because I have many video calls and the portrait mode camera just won't cut it. Too bad, so sad.
I really like the new camera placement on the iPad 10 but it's probably the reason for the goofy setup with the pencil. In my mind that's not a worthwhile tradeoff so I agree with you, the iPad Air 5 is the better choice, even at the full US retail price (the discounted price makes it a no brainer).

I'm staying with the Air 4 and mini 6, both i got within the last 15 mths or so and do everything I would need. I have recommended for students at work they get the 9th gen as it would save the headache of changing PCOS lockers to usb-c from lightning.
@Lovely_Boa If I was going to purchase a new iPad now I would get the Air 5, just because the Apple pencil 2 and then I wouldn't have to deal with the pairing issues of the pencil 1. As I use my ipad for digital planning and writing on the laminate screen is better than on the 10th gen, as this has a similar screen to mini 5, I had before getting the Mini 6. It comes down to what you want to use the ipad for and what is your budget. I use the mini 6 at work, as I can't hold the ipad 7/8th gen that work has issued to me due to my RSI, so got my own. the Air 4 is used for digital planning and NDIS plan management. I wont be upgrading for about 2 or more years.
Here in Indonesia, starting at 64gb at online stores, iPad 10 costs 550 USD, air 5 costs 590 USD while air 4 apple refurbished costs 470 USD (last month I bought it for 440 USD). It will never make any sense here as to why anyone would go for the 10 :/

In the Philippines exactly if u want the cheap iPad 10th Generation it will cost ₱29,990 equivalent to $449. And if you want the Cheap iPad Air it will cost ₱39,990 equivalent to $599.
Here in Canada, the wifi model is $599 CAD for 64GB, and $799 in 256GB. I got the 256GB wifi model with education pricing so it’s $759, and the pencil 1st gen is $115 in education pricing as well! It’s a really good deal considering the 256GB Air 5 costs a thousand. Only needed an iPad for note taking, reading sheet music, occasional media consumption and gaming so I think the 10th gen is a great deal.
This is how I'm leaning. I have a setup that will ensure I won't have an issue charging the Apple Pencil 1st gen, I like the balance between specs and storage at $799 CDN, and (while it's not a primary factor, it makes me happy) I'm in love with the bright colors for this line. It's two chips above what Honkai Star Rail (the main game I'll be playing on it when it releases later this year) has listed for iOS mobile, it's gonna be a great size for working in procreate, and it'll be ideal for digital journaling and planning. I'm not buying for a few more weeks, but when I weigh out the pros and cons, this generally seems like My best bet. Could totally be different for others, though.
Regarding the laminated display, you don't notice how good it is until you use it. Then it's hard to go back to non-laminated! Just upgraded my wife's iPad 9 to the Air 5 (on sale for $450 before $185 trade-in). Now she's future-proofed, has a great display and will still be better than the iPad 11 coming out next month for the same money it will cost at launch.
I bought an iPad Air 5 the day after introduction of iPad 10 (in Czech republic), at the time iPad 10 was for about 610 USD and the iPad Air was for 690 USD, then in a few days the iPad Air 5 went up to 790 USD

One other difference I have noticed is that when sharing screen zoom meetings and writing on the screen...the m1 handles it well...where as any lesser apple chips tend to stop sharing or get interrupted

In my country, Portugal, according to the apple website, the ipad 10th gen stars at 599€ and the iPad Air stars at 799€. But in tech stores like best buy you can find the iPad Air for 649€, so it’s hard to justify the ipad 10th gen

I know, this video was recorded long time ago, but this is still an issue today. In Hungary the pricing is so much different for example, the diff between this 2 devices is close to 250 $. With this gap u can buy for the ipad 10 th gen a keyboard included case and a pencil from logitech. Outside the US the pricing is so much different and i think maybe overpriced. I just wanted to share my view about this issue. I hope in the upcoming events Apple will reduce the prices back to where it was a year ago and with it they can get more costumer and keep the profit with less price but more sells.
The A14 being a phone chip will use less power than the m1 which is an iPad and laptop chip

In germany the Air 5 costs 800€, the iPad 10 550€ and the iPad 9 340€. I still went for the 10 because I want stereo Speakers and the sleeker design. I don't need the fast M1 since I only use it for media consumption.

Because many people upgrading to the iPad 10 are upgrading from a later generation iPad so they most likely already own the Apple Pen gen 1 so to market off of that they sell the $9 adapter

the primary difference between the air 5 and the new pro is the 120 hz refresh rate so the pro will seem “faster”- the m2 pro *from what i’ve seen* doesn’t preform all that much different from the m1; yea the geek bench stuff says otherwise but i think in actual performance it’s not that much better,,, i think a good compromise would be the 11 inch m1 pro from last year, you still get the fast refresh but you also don’t get what’s basically the same chip performance for more- if the refresh rate doesn’t matter to you then go for the air 5

The usual price in Bulgaria for an iPad Air 5 65bg is $868 tho there are more reliable stores with reasonable prices so I got mine for $750. I personally like the air version more and since I’m found of digital art and enjoy video games it does best for me.

This is a lot like the XR when it launched. $750 was way too high for a device of its tier at the time. Apple reduced it to $600 after a year (which it should have launched at) and I was able to nab it for $550
Very nice video! However, dividing it into chapters whould be helpful (camera, chip, pencil, speakers, ...) so you can easily navigate between the chapters :)
Currently looking in comparison between these 2 model, iPad 10 256GB version on RM2849 (Current Rate USD665) and iPad 5 Air 256GB version on RM3649 (Current Rate USD852), but there's ongoing Sales by the local Reseller on iPad Air 5 which makes the price drop to RM3299 (USD770), making it more attractive than iPad 10.

After Apple shut down supply with original devices, there is a deficit, and the prices are lower on devices which are more on market. But actually there is a special stores where (we call it grey market, before everything that happened in Ukraine, they bought Apple devices from another countries, and They have established supply channels) , there u can buy iPad 10,2 64gb like for 400$, and other prices are cheaper then official(now not) Reseller
In India the price for Ipad 10th gen is about 350 USD and Ipad air 5 for 650 USD, so huge difference
In Peru it is better not to buy Apple products in official resellers because the prices are TOO expensive.
The most famous reseller here is iShop and here are the prices:

iPad Air 5 256gb: $1130
iPad 10 64gb (should be because it hasn't arrived yet): $780 🫠
