I really enjoy the "make the look" type videos and this one did not disappoint. What a lovely dress. I feel your frustration about sleep - I have periodic difficulty with sleep too. My go-to is to listen to the Nothing Much Happens podcast. This podcast is gentle listening set in the entirely fictional village of Nothing Much. The stories lull you to sleep without overdoing the breathless ASMR thing that just ends up annoying me to bits. I get it on Spotify.

Gorgeous hack Sally. Very impressed you whipped up your buttonholes so quickly. I always do a few test runs and the come out perfect then I start on my project and they play up. So stressful when it’s usually the last part of the garment to finish. I’ve got a similar dress pattern all set to make as well. It’s Butterick B6640. I think your tips will be great to help. Especially the collar blog. Thanks again.

I have to say buttonholes are usually so easy with this machine and the automatic buttonhole foot. The only time I’ve known it to struggle is with the Ilford recently. It’s always stressful though isn’t it and can really make or break! Thank you for watching xx

What a beautiful dress, Sally! 😊
For viscose fabrics I use something called Sprühstärke (in German) which would be translated as spray starch. You just spray it on the pieces - or even better the whole fabric before cutting out - and let it dry. It helps to give the fabric more grip and structure. (I don't know if you have this product in the UK though.)

I usually leave the side seams undone before attaching collar band and collar. Means I can stretch the whole length of top of blouse or dress and it's easier to attach the stand this way. Just my way of doing things. Lovely dress.

Beautiful dress! Quick tip for cleaning the iron sole plate is to iron over tumble dryer sheets with the iron hot. Sounds funny but it really works and your room will smell lovely. I have removed melted plastic from pins and clips as well as the gunk from interfacing using this method.🌹🌹🌹

I love the fabric too 👌 I sympathise with your sleep problems - I have something similar from time to time. My brain just seems to wake up and won’t relax. I’ve tried reading but I then just get involved in the book ! It’s often when I’ve got a project on the go and I sort of mentally rehearse the process 😄 It just comes and goes. I hope you find a solution. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to make this video Sally, I’ve learned some useful stuff 😊 Have a good week x

@@SecretLifeOfASeamstress Sally, May I ask you a question please - please tell me if this is the wrong forum ! I am cutting out an Atelier Jupe Tilde - probably this afternoon if I can finish the ironing 😏. I have made a few of their shirt patterns and like them. I fall nicely in their size 38. With this recent video you say that you weren’t happy with your Tilde’s fit (personally I thought it looked beautiful !) and I know fit is a very personal thing, but I wondered if you would be kind enough to tell me what problems I should be aware of ? I am really battling insomnia. Two weeks ago ended a period of 7 days even I had a total of ten hours sleep. No r exaggeration. I tried all of the sleep hygiene things. Useless for me. I see a psychiatrist regularly for therapy. Two Saturdays ago I got to the point scene I kind of understand shall deprivation as torture, I emailed my psychiatrist because I couldn’t function. It was awful. Sleep also impacts many things, including mental health. He emailed me about an hour later which I didn’t expect, I was hoping for Monday. I have na medication. Not sleeping tablets but something used to treat sleep disorders. We are currently gradually increasing the dose. I am now getting some sleep but not great quality yet. But I can function and I don’t feel like I’m being tortured.
