Hi Gina, Fabulous video, but as I also have narrow shoulders it would have been good to see how you altered the shoulder length and the arm hole ajustment. Please can you do one . Thank you Gwen
I made one of these back in 1978 at 18 for a High school seniors dinner and dance. I made it in a black and white zebraish print, very DVF. I felt so posh in it.
I think it's amazing. So glad they brought this back from the vault. It makes all sizes look incredibly feminine. That's the magic of this dress. Thank you DVF❣️you look gorgeous BTW!
Greetings from Canada. I bought this pattern 5 years ago with the hopes of taking sewing lessons and making beautiful dresses for myself and my family. But for some reason life got in the way and I moth balled my hopes and dreams and put everything away. You inspired me to go into the attic and unbox my sewing machine and open the box full of sewing patterns that is gathering dust everyday. So, I owe you a big thank you. The dress looks stunning on you and I love the leopard print with this style, even though I'm not a big fan of animal prints. The end result is absolutely gorgeous, especially because you did not add the collar. I would skip the cuffs for myself, simply because I like simple clean lines without fussy details, but on you they take on a formal look and it is very becoming. I give you an A+, three gold Stars ⭐⭐⭐ and a big thumbs up 👍
Gorgeous dress! Personally I prefer with the collar: the collar, the "mousquetaires " cuffs (to wear returned) and the belt respond to each other: they are all 3 pointed and wide. These details of the authentic DvF wrap dress are very beautiful. Ghislaine from France
I'm so excited that you made this video. I've purchased my patten and have already told everyone that this weekend I will be hiding and sewing this dress. 😊 Your video has made me even more excited!!! Thank you!!!
Gina, Wrap dress suits everyone. I think this is because, as you said, this iconic dress has the distinctive collar and cuffs. It has angles. It has points. That fabric is perfect. You look so feminine. So dressed up. So chic. A forever pattern ❤❤❤
Now, that is a beautiful dress and a pattern I need to make. I agree 100% about the collar. I have really long arms, so I will omit the cuff. You look stunning
Absolutely fantastic. I never thought I'd see this dress again as I had one exactly the same in 1977 and the same material. Looking forward the pattern being sold very soon I hope. xxx
When you first showed the fit without sleeves ...I literally said wow ...outloud..that pattern can take you anywhere .no sleeves lighter weight for summer.. Just beautiful...I bet your fiancee did a "wow babe".... I'm in Canada so I will look for the pattern
I absolutely loved it without the sleeves too! Just so chic and perfect. I'm thinking of doing a lightweight white version for my bridal era but need to find a good quality one, I ordered one the other day and it was soo see through! Fingers crossed you can find a copy easily 😊
Oh wow! I’m in the process of making this dress. I’m using a silver satin to make a toile as it was all I had in my stash. Those skirt pieces need a lot of fabric width! I’m going for collar and no cuffs. It’s fun trying a totally different style and can’t wait to vlog about it. Yours looks absolutely stunning! 😍
One of the most prettiest versions of the DVF wrap dress I’ve seen thus far! Can’t wait to start on mine-You’ve inspired me not to put the collar in either. I was on the fence about it.
I kinda miss the collar, but you have to work with what feels right for your wardrobe, and this is a stunning dress. I appreciate that you told us about the rushed mistake, so relatable and so encouraging that we can screw up and still have a beautiful garment when we're done!
Your wrap dress looks beautiful, love your choices. I would have made the collar but that’s me, it looks just as stunning without the collar.. nice job.
I have ordered the pattern and ordered fabric. I am using a viscose cream and black deadstock fabric. I was thinking of omitting the cuffs. It looks great on you!
Fabulous fit! I agree, dump the collar. The cuffs are ok but a personal choice. Just found your channel. I have the original pattern and the new one. Both uncut. But I trace my commercial patterns because I change sizes over the years and I can resell them.
Wow, that came out great. I have to say I have never liked any kind of leopard print on anything, but the print for this dress and how it looks on you could just change my mind, well done. I'm glad you didn't put the collar on and once the cuffs were down, I liked them better too. I usually don't like wrap dresses, because of being a bit busty, they always open, it's very flattering on you. Just found you're channel, thanks for you videos.
While the pattern may have been designed for knits, other fabrics are suggested among which is, chambray. I am dubious about a wrap dress, particularly where my large bust is concerned, but a friend in America is buying me a very similar Butterick in the sale and I will be able to make a trial version before splashing out on the eye-wateringly expensive Vogue. I will be looking for a stable knit such as ponte that doesn't stretch out too much.
I have the pattern on hand but not the skills- yet! I’m going to make a few versions of the pattern I’m working on (a lab coat) and then start on this. Shopping for fabric is very fun since this dress is so amazing with prints.
I sewed a knockoff pattern in 1977 or so when I was in Junior College. I wore that dress till it disintegrated!Just ordered the real reproduction pattern V2000 in my “current” size, ha-ha.
This is gorgeous fabric and it moves so lovely on you. I am inspired to make a wrap dress. Not going to do the DVF. I’m a pdf pattern girl and have a wrap dress on my make 9
Excited to finally find this pattern yesterday. I'm returning to sewing and have made a shirt, a blouse and a dress with pockets this last couple of months. Do you think this would be a challenging first project if you have never sewn with a knit before or could you just choose a woven with some 'give' in one direction? I go to sewing class at the local community centre so I am sure my Teacher could help (and I am pretty precise as a sewer). My hips are a little bigger than my top half - & I'm short waisted - so It think having the collar might visually widen my shoulders & help with proportion. Thx so much, Kitty
Hi Kitty, that's exciting that you're returning to sewing! I actually think this would be a great pattern to start out with for knits, the only tricky bit would be the bust darts and collar but the instructions are really easy to follow. If your sewing teacher could offer some help with those bits you'll be absolutely fine, especially if you've made other bits before. Just try to get a fabric that's not too thin or slippery, or velvet actually 😆 hope that helps 🩷
@@ginaseams Amazing, thank you for taking the time to reply, I will bear in mind those tips re darts, collar & fabric. I did sewing BITD as an exam for school and I think my perfectionism comes in handy for this craft so I usually mad-tack everything. I might do a more basic dress for the remaining 3 classes (& I have a Simplicity shirt pattern to complete) so I will start next term. I'm short waisted so many dresses don't fit me, it will be great to have one that does.
In love with this and the fabric choice. I have had some viscose jersey for 3 years and not known what to do with it, I think this is the one. I am awkwardly between the two size packages for this in the UK… right bang between a 14 for waist and 16 for bust would you size up or down from your experience with viscose jersey and this pattern?
No collar was the way to go! The dress is stunning in you! I hv never altered a pattern & my shoulders are narrow so most things are a bit grimy on me due to the shoulders being too wide. Sure we love to know what you did to reduce the shoulders yet still fit the sleeves.
It looks beautiful Gina. I have a vogue pattern very similar and looking for a nice animal print. Can you give some advise on what to look for when ordering. Many thanks Julie. P.S just making some of your shirring dresses for granddaughter's ready for their hols. X
Thank you so much for this vlog I’m just about to cut out this dress and as always I’m pondering which size to cut either 10 or 12 would you mind sharing your measurements which always helps me decide or I can share mine 35 / 27 / 37 x
Batavia! They are so so good, I would be lost without them now 😆 these ones are more expensive than the Amazon equivalent but the quality is amazing and the battery lasts ages too ☺
I know it’s too late to vote about the collar, but I don’t think the collar would be an attractive feature because it would get lost under your hair and might actually be a little uncomfortable, unless you wear your hair up.
I sewed a knockoff pattern in 1977 or so when I was in Junior College. I wore that dress till it disintegrated!Just ordered the real reproduction pattern V2000 in my “current” size, ha-ha.
Hi Gina, Fabulous video, but as I also have narrow shoulders it would have been good to see how you altered the shoulder length and the arm hole ajustment. Please can you do one . Thank you Gwen
I wish she had put more of these type of wrap dresses in her target collection. this one would have fit the theme nicely
I have worn this kind of dress for 50 years and I like it without the collar.
I made one of these back in 1978 at 18 for a High school seniors dinner and dance. I made it in a black and white zebraish print, very DVF.
I felt so posh in it.
The dress looks gorgeous on you. Totally agree, it doesn’t need the collar, the print is very detailed, the neckline it perfect . Love it ❤
Love, love, love all of it!
I think it's amazing. So glad they brought this back from the vault. It makes all sizes look incredibly feminine. That's the magic of this dress. Thank you DVF❣️you look gorgeous BTW!
I usually dislike leopard print but that dress looks fabulous!
Leopard is definitely a love or hate print 😆 thank you!

Would love to see how you do a hem on stretchie material. I’m making shirts for Rodeo girl’s barrel racing. Love your videos.
Looks great, I love that fabric!
Beautiful, I feel you never go wrong with a wrap dress. It’s a gorgeous fit on you.
Wrap dresses are a must in a wardrobe, your version is lovely. Hope you had compliments from your fiancé !
I'm so excited that you made this video. I've purchased my patten and have already told everyone that this weekend I will be hiding and sewing this dress. 😊 Your video has made me even more excited!!! Thank you!!!
Sounds like the perfect weekend plans! Have fun sewing it, what fabric are you using? You'll love it ❤
I'm using a super soft cotton jersey. The sewing starts in 2 hours! Lol!
Thanks again for the inspiration. Hope you have a fantastic weekend. 😊
I think it looks much nicer without the collar. I had a similar dress in the 70s with no collar and because you are so petite its the best look.
7:50 that’s a fantastic tip! That tip for the darts needs to be a separate short video all on its own!
Beautiful, its fitting you very well. And the print of the fabric is very nice. This pattern is Beautiful.
Just found your channel you made me laugh at your response to your lovely dress. I made this dress in the '70s and felt very elegant I must say.
So pretty❤....I liked that you length the dress. It made your dress look so classy.🎉
I love it sleeveless even! Very lovely.
Me too!! I'm hunting for a good quality white jersey for a sleeveless version I think that would be gorgeous for Summer ❤
I think it looks great sleeveless too! It also might look good with 3/4 sleeves/ no cuff
Forgot to say… Looks stunning btw and fits you perfectly X
Gina, Wrap dress suits everyone. I think this is because, as you said, this iconic dress has the distinctive collar and cuffs. It has angles. It has points. That fabric is perfect. You look so feminine. So dressed up. So chic. A forever pattern ❤❤❤
Brava! It looks PERFECT on you!
The dress is gorgeous and so are you.
Looks TOTALLY STUNNING, love the leopard print!
Now, that is a beautiful dress and a pattern I need to make.
I agree 100% about the collar. I have really long arms, so I will omit the cuff.
You look stunning
I don't like animal print, but I love this dress! The modelling was lovely too.
I thought I’d done wrap dresses to death during my corporate working days but you’ve inspired me to go there again. Loved your dress.
This pattern definitely makes it worth the revisit! Thank you 😊
Absolutely fantastic. I never thought I'd see this dress again as I had one exactly the same in 1977 and the same material.

At beginning...you look amazing in black!

Gorgeous dress. Enjoy your date night !!!
Thanks so much, I was thankful for the stretch in this dress I ate so much 😂❤
The dress looks wonderful on you
You look amazing in this dress!
OMG this is beautiful! I'm almost done with mine! I love your fabric too!!
Very pretty on you!
I love your sweater.

Love the dress and definitely going to make it after seeing yours!
How exciting! Have you got a fabric in mind for it? 😊
stunning! bravo!!! you are glowing!
I'm happiest in leopard prints 😆 thank you!!
Lovely!
It's stunning! Just stunning! 😍😍😍
Amazing... love the fabric, it looks stunning. Well done!
Your wrap dress looks beautiful, love your choices. I would have made the collar but that’s me, it looks just as stunning without the collar.. nice job.

Ahh that's such a huge compliment, thank you ☺️
It’s beautiful! The collar mimics the cuff design for balance but looks nice without it
Love it!
beautifully done love it
Ah thank you so much, glad you liked the end result

Next time could you go over the pattern cutting and notches, what they mean, and how to follow through with the necessary markings? thank you
Perfection❗️
Thank you so much 🥰
Absolutely gorgeous material, pattern and fit. I cannot wait to make mine. Did you cut your belt thinner? It looks thinner and i actually love it
Thank you so much 😊 it's the original width, I think the fabric makes it look thinner because it ruches in slightly. Hope that helps 🩷

You can get it if you're a Sew Direct VIP member. I've got it so I'm really interested to see this video. Xx
Thank you so much, I totally forgot to mention that 🤦 how exciting that you have a copy, hope you found this helpful xx
I'm loving it at the moment. Do you think you will do one with a collar at all? It does look gorgeous on you xx
What type knit is this?
I like it better without the sleeve but than I live in queensland
Meant to say I have the the easy vogue pattern V8379.
A friend in the US is sending me over Butterick 5030 bought on sale for $1.99. I might acquire the DVF because of fomo, though.
I know it’s too late to vote about the collar, but I don’t think the collar would be an attractive feature because it would get lost under your hair and might actually be a little uncomfortable, unless you wear your hair up.
