Hi Taryl, I have a question for you or anyone that can help. I had to replace my governor on the same engine. I followed your video and made sure everything was done like in the video. For some reason after its all said and done I turn it on and it only runs at one speed. The throttle on the mower doesn’t change the rpm of the engine. It doesn’t over rev or anything but I tried everything and nothing works.

Mustie1 also has a video of his solution to the same problem. I think you can remove all the governor apparatus and setup a manual throttle and maybe operate it that way - anyway, hope you have success!
Thanks for the video. I put new push rods in and when ivturned it over it wouldn't start. With futher investigation I noticed my push rods were not moving. So I took the engine back out and took the cover back off and thanks to your video I realized my woodruff key was missing. So I installed a new one and closed it all back up and it fired right up. Son you make them all look like there going in slow motion!!! Thanks again.

Thanks for all your interesting videos! It looks like the compression release on the INTEK twin cylinder engine is only for one of the two cylinders. Only one of the two exhaust cam lopes has the compression release mechanism on it.

I'm replacing the gov. gear on my B&S v-twin engine model 407777, type 0137e1, code 990525yg. In watching your video, the gov. support shaft has a grove around it that allows the tiny ring to seat and lock when the gov. cap is pushed down to prevent the gov. gear from falling out or flying off. The gov. gear shaft on my engine does not have this grove to lock the ring in place. My last gov. gear assy. 11/22/2023 worked fine for a few seconds then the engine tried to overspeed so I shut it down. I had to remove the engine again and found the gov. pins bent and weights laying in the bottom of the sump. Your videos on gov. adjustment are simple to understand and fallow. So I doubt the gov. adjustment could be the problem .. FYI: The carb was also replaced and original gov. spring (no color) was reinstalled. Any ideas as to what I should be looking for??? Taryl is right about setting valves on a lawnmower. Low speed, max lower end torque motors with no valve overlap. However where the concern stems from is working on high performance old school cams for car engines where there may be cam overlap. In those situations you do have to be careful that the other valve is not starting up the lobe ramp while the other is open.
Hi Taryl. I just picked up a DR pro max 34 brush mower with a briggs vtwin 20hp. The governor opened wide. It came apart. Now, I need to separate the casing to get to the governor. I can't get that drive pulley off the shaft. Have you ever worked on brush mower removing that pulley? I thought I needed to loosen Allen screw on the pulley, but there's not one there. Just a hole on the pulley without screw tightening to the shaft. Maybe it's just rusty. I'll buy a pulley puller tomorrow. Good video, I'll use it to reassemble my motor after replacing the governor. I just need to remove the dang pulley.
I've been setting valve clearances the way you show for the better part 30 years, and never had issues.... Not once, so TDC on small engines is not necessary.... As long as one rocker arm is up, and the other down and loose, adjust, and your done.
There's a guy on TH-cam that insists that your technique is wrong because of valve overlap. I don't see how that matters since valve clearance is specified in a range. I expect overlap might mean setting at either low or high end of the range using your technique.
@@kenhilson786 oh I know, and if you want to do it his way by all means go ahead, I've been doing it my way for over 30 years and never had a problem, both ways work just fine, just one takes a lot longer, and when you have 7 machines waiting speed is king, if your just working on yours alone take your time, and follow who you want..... Just saying either way works.
Part numbers often change, with the old part being replaced by a backward compatible new part with a new number. What's the best site to find those backward compatible new part numbers?

I replaced a sump gasket on a briggs V-twin for a neighbor and I had it all back together and the governor exploded and then I had to take it all apart and replace it took me 6 hours just to complete it

I've found the dipstick makes a great tool to avoid rolling the seal when you put the cover back on.

The old camshaft was easy spin starting, compression release is a machined bump on cam lobe! Way better than new one!
