I loved the old Dean Martin/Jerry Lewis movies. Dean Martin is one of the greatest entertainers ever. That includes acting, singing, and improv. He's a true treasure of old Hollywood.
There's nothing funnier than watching these guys break character and the fourth wall, in the process. And Dom was ALWAYS such a crackup when someone made him laugh mid-skit. I miss that man. A lot. And when I watch cable TV, I miss him more. All of 'em. God bless 'em, every one of those guys.
I can't help but think of Cannonball Run, with these guys cast in various roles. Dean Martin pretty much played himself... a helpless lush with a martini in both hands, and Dom Deluise played Captain Chaos along side Burt Reynolds.
Well some of it is. To be fair there are good shows today but you have to pay through the nose for it and pay extra for subscriptions to specific stations. In those days you bought the tv and plugged it in and that was thexquality of show we got.
Leigh Scott is absolutely correct! When he was on stage he was NEVER drunk, it was his schtik, it worked for him, so he stuck with it. He did drink socially outside of performing, but he was not a big drinker or a "drunk" by any means.
So true... SNL hasn't been funny since the 90's when it had the Dana Carvey, Adam Sandler, and all of them back from the 90's awesome era... See if you can find the old real episodes they were great.
@Retrofan Dean is referring to Dennis Weaver who was also featured on this episode. You see him, quickly, at the end of this skit. He is the tall fellow with a moustashe in a tuxedo to your viewing left (or Dean's right).
Dom is Burt Reynold's buddy. He's just like Tim Conway, and will try to make the cast crack up on camera. He was big, like John Candy, and he was short-lived. I believe he died from heart health problems in the 1980's or 90's.
This “skit” clearly shows why everyone loved Dean. He didn’t take himself or the show seriously. He was clearly having a blast. EVERYONE wanted to work with him. His ex-partner on the other hand...much different.

I loved Dom as a kid. He made me laugh until my sides ached and my stomach hurt. He was a rare man. I miss his humour.
Burt always said Dom was the funniest person he ever met! They are now back together again making them all laugh in the heavens! 😇
