Master of character improvisation, Johnathon Winters was in a class by himself. Always fresh, novel, and funny, I remember him from the days of black and white TV when he would be a guest comedian on a show and just tell a funny story, replete with the noises of a window closing or some other type of noise as part of his routine. As a kid, I was always fascinated by his humor and miss his talent very much.
"All I know is I'm supposed to be a bartender". I think that sums up a lot of Dean's skits. I don't think he rehearsed too much if at all. He always had a great show.
As a kid I would use my little tape recorder to record the show at night and then listen to it all week. That And the Jonathan winters show. Way back then I knew this gentleman was the funniest guy I had ever heard. Still cracks me up after all these years
I remember growing up when Jonathan was on The Dean Martin Show, and our whole family, parents and 5 kids, would gather in the living room and blow the roof off we would laugh so loud. When you consider that he is making this material up on the fly it is nothing short of amazing. Dean Martin, to his credit, maintains his composure fairly well, but his breaking up was part of what we enjoyed about their interplay in the various skits. I'll bet the outtakes are priceless...
Jonathan was such a one of a kind over the top comedic genius. I sense that when he's in character he's in very deep and completely. He actually is the person he is portraying in his mind, it's a joy to watch him in action.
There's a Twilight Zone episode where he does a serious role, as a pool shark from the afterlife. And he's really excellent. The guy could do it all. But he had some really dark days....that brain could never shut off.
@@zeldasmith6154 No he did not struggle with mental illness. He struggled with alcoholism n he checked himself into an long term intensive alcohol rehabilitation/ treatment clinic n stayed there for many months. But his marriage lasted until his one n only wife past away. Then some years later he past away as a widower.
I was born and raised in Dayton Ohio. Johnathan attended the Dayton art institute. His grandfather started the Winters national bank in Dayton Ohio. I loved watching his TV show. Whenever I watched it I would get goose bumps all over my body. He was funny in its a mad mad mad mad world and the Russians are coming. Maude fricker was my favorite character. I miss you Johnathan
I saw Winters as Williams minus not being able to break character. Williams got lost in his craft and it cost him his life. Winters had his problems but got help.
Ive watched this clip so many times but this is the first one Ive seen that has the drunk business guy at beginning! Never knew it was this great a clip! I love Jonathan! He will always be the greatest comic of all time to me!
Dean's line at 7:49: 'There's a Shirley Temple with a Reagan in it' may go over some people's head unless you were around when the movie "That Hagan Girl" came out. In like Flynn.
Yup, he was Number 1. He got along great with Robin Williams No. 2 because they were both so much alike ... ad lib comic geniuses. Going back further Sid Caesar also cracked me up !
Excuse me, I fell on the floor laughing!!! comedy is good for the soul, Laughing just feels so Wonderful. oddly enough, I used to watch the Dean Martin show. yet I have No recall of these skits. Only thing I can think of is I was Laughing & Rolling on the floor in tears , trying to catch my breath. Still Funny after all these years anyone in 2019 still laughing @ these Silly buggas. next clip Please, Mahalo & Aloha
Grew up while all this was made. Saw some of it but now at 70 there is more than enough of the great entertainment than I will ever be able to relax with.. These people were trabajadores!!
It must have been an amazing thing to be him... There were two performers on the Dino Show that were never given scripts, just blocks of time and situations: Don Rickles was one, and Jonny Winters was the other.
They don't make comics like Jonathan Winters anymore. He left us w/ a lot great memories of what comics used to be, Funny as hell. R.I.P., MR WINTERS. YOU'RE MISSED.
I idolized Deano!! & Also loved Johnathan Winters!! They were a couple Of my favorites growing up in the '60s I feel very fortunate to have been born in the late '50s!! Grew up with great music, tv, comedy,& movies!! & Sports!!!!!! Almost forgot to mention "The Greatest" Muhammad Ali!!!!
Bygone era! Saw this guy play guitar one night. Part of a skit. He was ripping off some countrified thing. Wow! Put a lot of guitarists to shame. What a talented fellow.
What a time to be around when these great performers and genius of comedy where at their best the likes of these people will never be seen again thanking people for the laughs and great joy they gave to the world
I think if Dean Martin had Jonathan Winters and Tim Conway on,the whole show would've been those 2 with Dean just holding onto the bar laughing, while we at home had cramped ribs.(They called those rib ticklers 'Stitches'in Our day.Shhh).
Harold Rhoades TWO of the greatest!! I know that many people will disagree, but to me these sketches were so much funnier than anything Dean ever did with Jerry.
Kevin Judy Dean didn’t do scruffy, unless it was required for a film role..... Some say that as a baby even his romper suit was a tuxedo and his nappy/diaper was fastened with a bow tie!!!🤵🏽
I think you must be right about coming right from shooting the film. He seems so out of place without his tuxedo on. Handsome as always but seem strange without his tux.
Jonathan reminds me of Johnny drop as captain jack sparrow in this scene. They both act drunk but also share the same mannerisms as drunks and they have a similar facial look.
Whenever we heard the announcement of Jonathan on the television, my mother and I ran to it to watch. She loved him, Dean, and Rip Torn.1969
My favorite United States Marine! Jonathan was the real deal. When he spoke in some interviews, you could tell he was very smart. RIP Jon...
Dean looks stunning here!! ❤️❤️

A Precious Few could Equal him.. but None Could Better him.
My first time with JONATHAN WINTER'S was when he was a GUEST...on SCOOBY DOO...
John ,r.i.p ,you are missed ,God bless you .😢😢
"All I know is I'm supposed to be a bartender". I think that sums up a lot of Dean's skits. I don't think he rehearsed too much if at all. He always had a great show.
That was awesome, no script just quick minds. Dean didn’t have a clue to what was coming up next. Improv at its best.
As a kid I would use my little tape recorder to record the show at night and then listen to it all week. That And the Jonathan winters show. Way back then I knew this gentleman was the funniest guy I had ever heard. Still cracks me up after all these years
What an unbelievable talent Jonathan was! He graced the world with his genius for improvisational comedy! RIP Jonathan.
Genius. No script. Such fun to watch them both. No one come close to them.
Dean is ruggedly handsome. He sure is funny. Winter's on the other hand is a comedic genius. Bar none.
Winter’s could always make the audience laugh, and Dean’s ruggedly handsome looks are really highlighted with the stubble he has in this skit.
When Johnathan winters show up . This will always be comic gold

There were no outtakes on the Dean Martin Show - they never redid a thing
This talent is non existent today.
No imagination nowadays, just cheap thrills.
@@parks1968 exactly correct. The writers for humor and getting there jokes across back in the good ole days has sorely been lost to cheap crap.
Unfortunately our society has become so sensitive that everything said is taken as an insult or racist, etc. We've failed to laugh at ourselves.

Totally agree! Favorite part of babysitting was watching Jonathan on Carson! So-called "comedians" aren't at all funny.
If you haven't had the opportunity to see
Jonathan Winters take the time to.
He ranks as one of the ALL-TIME Great Comedians .
Jonathan Winters the best comedian of all time.
When you're as good as Don Rickles and Johnathan Winters, you don't need no stinking script.
Ronald McReynolds
And Dean just love working with these 2 cause he never knew what was going to happen.
Yes indeed

Jonathon Winters the very best there ever was...comic genius
Indeed, Jonathan was.
..
Him and Don Rickles
I just look at him and start laughing.
@@user-xj2sm3xd5l God no, Rickles was so overrated. Jonathon was the best. The next close was Robin Williams.
Jonathan W. was a once in a Century genius!
It seems like yesterday..TV was special then..I sure miss those good old days,.. I really, really do..😢
Priceless... there has not been another great one since Jonathan Winters he's Top Dog
Great! Bring back that kind of comedy PLEASE!
Dean's line at 7:49: 'There's a Shirley Temple with a Reagan in it' may go over some people's head unless you were around when the movie "That Hagan Girl" came out. In like Flynn.
Dean looks like he just walked off the set of The Sons of Katie Elder to tape this show. So handsome.
I said the same thing!
He did!
He was 50 years old!!!
In our house, everything stopped when Jonathan Winters came on the TV! Never knew what would happen. In the era of strict TV censors, and innuendo.

Omg thank you My tummy hurts from laughing so much.so wonderful to see John and Dean wonderful

"I'm Tuffy Steeler". Dean (and all of us) were instantly wrecked....AWESOME!!!
Then the bird cage thing...too much fun
You could not maintain composure or anything else around this genius.
Always handsome, Mr. Martin seems especially strikingly handsome in this clip.
Agree. Elvis loved his singing and style.
I agree. He was an incredibly handsome man.

CLEAN COMEDY A FORGOTTEN LORE
Heheheheh, THAT wasn't 99 and 44 one-hundredths per cent pure!
Not THAT clean, if you catch my drift, sonny!
I would love for a few well place "dirty" words.
We need so much more comedy these days, where are they. Surely theres some somewhere.
Squashed by political correctness
This is one of my favorite videos 😂❤️
I love it that he seems to be trying to break Dean those kind of clips make it hilarious
The Dean Marin show is still my number 1 tv series with Paul Lynde Jonathan winters and other tv stars
Jonathan Winters was beyond funny!!
Only if "beyond" is the new "not." DIdn't crack so much as a smile at Winters in this.
I always thought Dean far outranked Frank in the singing department. Dean's real good in Rio Bravo too!
you got that wrong jack. dean had his lane. sinatra was the whole freeway! ;)
I agree . Dean could outsing Frank any day . Different styles . Listen to him doing I left my heart in San Francisco ...omg
Rio Bravo I completely forgot how much I like that movie Thanks for the Memories
Frank was the stronger singer, Dean was the better entertainer. In my opinion.
Well maybe Dean did it with ability!
"Hi Lady; Boo." Every time I see that part I laugh so hard. Winters was so great, so frickin' funny.

That blonde is drop-your-drawers-gorgeous and she knows it.
Really ? When I look at her I think of a beater with 2 coats of paint.
Maybe... but she looks evil enough to satisfy
You don't see geat comedy like that anymore. Nothing compares to the 60s 70s and the 80s

A very funny gifted comic..
This video better than 2010 youtube videos))))
Jonathan as an older woman cracks me up. He was hilarious..
" Up rooted rubber plant" Classic
The REAL comic even before one of my favorites, Rodney Dangerfield. The one liners worked Everytime.
Genius
She was about to burst out! Dean almost lost it on the burial joke too.
Jack Ridge ... Dean only got his line over Johnathon shoulders. But he never know where Johnathon was going to go on his patt.
Why can't they make TV shows like this anymore?
“Just a pair o’ polka-dot trunks!”
The wonderful Jonathan 😂
Amazing how I'd rather watch something that aired before I was born because of the garbage and time slot fillers of today.
Me, too!
I Completely Agree with you On This !!!!!!!!!
Perfectly said and I am in agreement
"Hi, are you a woman of the evening!? I'm a man of the evening!"
Love Dino and Jonathan. They’re both wonderfully funny
'I buried my step-cousin today. To throw that boy , with just a pair of trunks on in an open grave! Well, that's not right.' Sounds like my family....

Jonathan Winters was the best with all his characters.
Kings of comedy 😆
Dean must have come straight from the set of The Sons of Katie Elder. Thats his costume for it.
I was thinking the exact same thing!! I expect Robert Mitchum to walk in..

Dean..one of my favorites in the westerns.. especially El Dorado and Five Card Stud with my dad's lookalike Robert mitchum.

Jonathan and Dean were priceless so dam funny
Alright, Mr. Willard.
