    Great explanation of how the shocks performed. That's what I've been looking for. I've been looking at Eibach pro truck lift so I'm looking forward to your review.

    Eibach was at the top of my list but I couldn't find them anywhere when I was buying so I settled on the 5100 series. I'm up in New Hampshire so speed offroad isn't really necessary for what I'll be driving on.
    Great review, maybe I'll upgrade then again, can't wait to see the other videos.

      Both Bilstein 5100 and Eibach Pro Truck are great options. Eibach has been quite impressive on the vehicles we have tested them on.

    GREAT review and honest share :) I was supposed to go with a KING setup but opted for the Eibach SPrings on my SAS......it's been GREAT. A good compromise. My ride is MUCH better all around. On road chatter is amazing now....smoothed out :) Off road has been great as well. I do have a Rough Country winch (and mount) on right now and just did some fairly hard rock crawling and high speed whoop-dee-whoop rollers.....Performed GREAT!!! I do have a QUESTION - IF I wanted to lift my front end to compensate for the winch, and all my heavy RCI armor, what would you recommend? Or would you just say keep it as is? 1 inch is all I want.

    • @ShockSurplus
      @ShockSurplus  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh nice, the springs helped with on-road chatter? That's great to hear, that's the next assessment we wanted to do, Eibach springs on the ESCV shocks, and still may. Thanks so much for the feedback

    So i live in the UAE and we do a lot of dune bashing out here. I have a 2 dr Outer Banks with the Hitachi shocks, and 33s. The Hitachis have performed well dont get me wrong, but I know my limits and how crazy i can go. Ive been thinking about the Eibachs for sometime but the 5100s seem like a good shout as well, especially that im planning on getting 35s. Do you think getting the 5100s on 35s with a 2 inch lift is worth it? especially because the car is my daily as well. Would 2 inches be the ideal height and would i also need UCAs?

    Thanks for the vid guys! Would you say that the Bilstein 5100 have a "softer" ride quality over the Eibach Stage 1 kit?

      The Eibachs are definitely the softer of the two, however we did prefer the ride and hanlding of the Bilsteins.

    QUESTION ?
    I HAVE A 1999 FORD F150 XLT 4.6L EXTENDED CAB 4X4 !
    MY NEPHEW RAISED THE REAR 5 INCHES WITH 5 " BLOCKS ! THE FRONT WE GOTTEN 3 " TORSION KEYS TO RAISE THE FRONT . WE ORDERED THE BILSTIEN SHOCKS 4 " TO 6 " THROUGH YOU'LL CAN'T THINK OF THE NUMBER OF THE SHOCK . AFTER MY NEPHEW PUT EVERYTHING ON THE TRUCK / TASTY / WE TOOK HER ACROSS THE STREET TO THE CHURCH PARKING LOT TO SEE IF ANYTHING RUBBED WHEN TURNING THE FRONT WHEELS . WE ALSO ADDED NEW 18 " WHEELS / INSTEAD OF THE ORIGINAL 17 " ONES THAT CAME ON TASTY /PLUS LT 295 / 70 R / 18 / NITTO RIDGE GRABBERS / WHEN WE DID A COUPLE TURNS THE PASSENGER SIDE BRACKET ON THE LOWER CONTROL ARM , FRONT BROKEN OFF. BUT OTHER THAN THAT IT SEEMED TO BE OK . ADJUSTED THE HEIGHT A BIT & NO RUBBING THE VINYL UNDER BUMPER . WHEN I WENT HOME IT FELT LIKE I HIT THE LITTLEST BUMP IN THE ROADS WAS REALLY BIG . THE ONLY THING WE COULD FIGURE OUT THE UPPER CONTROL ARMS WERE HITTING THE METAL BUMP STOPS ON THE FRAME ON EACH SIDE . DON'T KNOW IF WE / NEED TO GET DIFFERENT CONTROL ARMS , UPPER & LOWER , OR CUT THE METAL BUMP STOPS ON AN ANGLE & RE WELD IT AFTER WE CHECK & SEE IF THAT WORKS WITH WHAT WE / HE DID HOPEFULLY . NOT TRYING TO MAKE A ROCK CRAWLER JUST SIT HIGHER & GOING / TRAVELING THE EASTERN MOUNTAIN BACK DIRT / GRAVEL ROADS CAMPING . SHE'S GOT A HAIR SHORT OF 300,000.00 MILES . IF I LIKE THIS I'M GOING TO DO THIS ON WHEN I GET ANOTHER ONE ? MORE THAN YOU NEEDED TO SORRY .

    • @ShockSurplus
      @ShockSurplus  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The front shocks for 4-6" would have been too long for your 3" lift. You were most likely to bottom out. The rear is either a full 5" lift or if you removed the factory block and added a 5" block then you would need to deduct the factory block height with the 5" and that is the total lift you received.

    What about 6112? And what springs if you have a winch mount on the front?

    • @ShockSurplus
      @ShockSurplus  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the 6112 doesn't have more than one spring available for the front, it'll come down to how much ride height you need and if the 6112 settings can achieve that with your front weight.

      6112 aren't offered for every vehicle but they are one of the best bang for the buck. This really depends on your vehicle and what you want to do. Not much us offered on the Express Vans but please provide us your vehicle specs and we'll help you out. It would best to contact us directly as well.

      To be fair we do not get 70s here in the US so we do not have a ton of experience with them, but overall from what we carry we think the Dobinsons IMS shocks are pretty hard to beat. They ride better, handle better, take more abuse, and basically are better in every facet over stock while lasting a long time and still be rebuildable so you never have to buy a new set.

    I've heard conflicting info on the 5100s, specifically regarding the circlip and it's affect (or not) on OE spring preload. I've read on forums and watched countless videos. Could you guys cover this topic? Have a set coming for my 2007 Sierra, I got a leveling kit that will allow me to max out the 5100 OR not use the lift so I can have a softer ride. But I have heard adjusting the height doesn't affect the ride, but have also heard many people say that has been their experience.

    • @ShockSurplus
      @ShockSurplus  ปีที่แล้ว

      to a certain point, the ride zone changes by half the lift height: 2in of lift from the spring, changes 1in off from optimal ride zone on the damper, that on top of how the shocks handle the constantly pent up spring energy and rebound.
      We've heard a lot more from customers who's ride quality changed for the worse after preloading the spring. Seems a spacer with the shock at factory height is the safest way to maintain ride quality, only compromise is lack of improved performance - in case that's a concern for you in offroad situations or environments

      new aftermarket UCA definitely help with alignment, especially with close to 3" of lift in the front. We like the Icon arm, has a crazy amount of articulation

    I have a 2 door Sasquatch and think it rides hard at any speed under 50 mph. My question is would the 5100's or 6100's be a better fit for those speeds? Not many places to go 50+ offroad up here in the northeast. Also I can only find your 6112 kit with springs for the 2 doors and not just the 6100 shocks, why is that?

    • @ShockSurplus
      @ShockSurplus  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you can swing it, even if you are not driving fast a 6100 or 6112 is definitely worth it over the 5100s. They handle a lot better and even when going slow there were some times we had to check up for the 5100s where a 6100 would float right over. It looks like the data team is updating 2 door listings so just give us a chat, email, or call and we can get you set up.

    If I’m understanding you, the 5100 can be adjusted to raise the ride height?

    • @ShockSurplus

      That is correct. The use circlips grooves to determine the lift amount.

    What tire pressures were you using during testing? The tire is a big part of the suspensions when off-roading.

    • @ShockSurplus
      @ShockSurplus  ปีที่แล้ว

      25psi, give or take a few, but that's the sweet spot that Bowman (driver) likes

    • @ShockSurplus

      Roughly 22-24 PSI during warm conditions.

    • @ShockSurplus
      @ShockSurplus  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They are definitely a great upgrade over the stock Hitachis for sure and will help you clear those 35s with ease. They have their limits when you want to go fast off road, and we think the 6112s are definitely the better sweet spot for most people, but if you keep speeds reasonable and do not see yourself going over a 35, they are a great upgrade.

  • @wallycunningham5090

    Seems like the 5100's are a good choice vs stock Hitachi's?

    • @ShockSurplus
      @ShockSurplus  ปีที่แล้ว

      On our Bronco, we have the Hoss Bilstein. We would that the 5100 were better then those for daily driving on the 35s but not that great on off-roading in the desert here in Southern California. The OEM Hoss Bilstein handle better in that area. We are now on 37s which the 2.0 shocks don't feel quite adequate and are planning to do 2.5 series soon.

      We don't have that suspension on our Bronco but if someone wants to send a Bronco with them on, we'll or rather Sean Bowman will test it lol. They only come in the 2023 model and only on the WildTrack version and Raptor version.

    • @ShockSurplus

      The stock ESCV shocks have gotten some polarized feedback, but at the same time - no other stock vehicle besides a raptor can keep up with a sasquatch bronco offroad.
