Most people don't seem to understand that you don't buy this car for pure speed. There is a certain upscale feel in both material quality and overall driving comfort that you won't ever dream of getting in the Evo or STi. That being said, respect to all three cars for the things they excel in.
They fail to mention that the Golf R is faster than the R32 regardless of DSG advantage in the R32. So the extra power and lighter chassis (and lighter engine) do make a big difference. And an easy ECU reflash gets you 300hp.
Although I agree with you completely. Understand that some people find the Evo and WRX to be garish and immature. The Golf is much more stylish and appeals to a different buyer.
True. Subaru's are for immature boys drinking Energy drinks with a sideways baseball cap, and the Golf R is for men over 35 who are sophisticated and read books LOL
I honestly love this car even though it is overpriced. And do not believe the GTI will keep up when it definitely won't. 0-60 times are almost equal but 1/4 is where you feel the difference and around the track. Plus with more mods AWD can only be an advantage.
Those scratches on the button... yes... sad story.. A LOT of the ppl in the dealership they donno this car is push start... Lot of them tried to use the key poking the button hard .. try to find the hole...
@ flexer the lack of power is probably (im guessing) because of the california emissions standards. The LED tails (which i love) are not what "americans want" and the lack of DSG is due to the respond it got when it was on the R32 a lot of people prefer stick. Americans are just not ready to move forward.
Yup I like those alcantara recaro seats there nice, but because of the governments electronic nannying now car companies aren't able to sell a car without it, but I bet you could just the fuse on it like you can do with traction control that doesn't turn off.
GTI with DSG can keep up with the stock version of this car. If you can live without the AWD, the GTI is the better choice. If VW ever decides to stop shafting the US and sell this car with a DSG here, then perhaps it might be worth it. Otherwise its not worth the huge premium over a GTI
STI or EVO over this beast? better think twice guys... The build quality is like heaven and earth. Yes, you can go damn faster with those two, but shitty wind & tire noise, cracking dashboard noise, etc. surely are not fun to hear for the price you've paid...
Funny people watch this video and say il get an sti... Well am trading in my 2010 sti for this tomorrow... Sti is fast as he'll... But I blown my motor once and my trubo twice... Us sti feels cheap in the inside... Like very plastic feel on the inside of the door and the dash feels cheap... Once again sti is faster but for me the golf rides better.. I'll sure miss the speed of the sti.. But you can make anything fast
It is kind of pricey. Did anyone else notice the paint coming off and nicks on the Start/Stop button? Things like that make me question VW quality. I feel it always initially looks nice and rich, but after a while you just realize it's painted on luxury.
US buyers beware. Compared to Euro spec...US Golf R's get less less HP, no rear camera, smaller wheels, no led brake lights and no DSG. Thanks for nothing VW assholes.
@@DaGr3atest Not even, the sister car the TT-S had the full spec engine both in Europe and the U.S., the 2012 Golf R was detuned in some warmer climate markets and detuned outright in the U.S. Should have been making 265 -270hp...after market has you covered though.

Why didn't they put a DSG trans for america? I love driving manuals but I would love the option of the DSG simply for launch control!
I love that blue. A great 👍 looking car and much better looking than the latest version.
Very beautiful the Gol R

Some of the testers probably tried to stick the key in and scratched it.

Agree. Not being able to shut off stability control completely kills it.
It's a fun car either way. Calm down. lol
the same story with the real bucket seats and an ESC off switch, those are cool options

Probably some tuning differences, but likely that number is in PS not BHP.
Yeah, I want this car!
Umm, for the price, why not buy a STI or Evo? Or used S4?

That hp difference is a marketing ploy to not step on Audi's toes. There really is no difference between the US and Euro engines.
Australia also gets the detuned version, due to our poor fuel quality and hot climate. 188kw 330nm vs 199kw 350nm.
4:11 Is this a new car? The start button already has scratches! German Engineering right?!
The European version does it in like 5.1/5.2 seconds. A euro model GTI can easily do it in 6 seconds flat.

Stronger connecting rods?? Who's building cars with weak ones?
AWESOME, vehicle!
You can also pronounce it 'nich'. Both are correct.
Q medida son los rines
Couldnt focus was too busy looking at the SLS AMG in the background
Car is not overpriced. You get a lot for the money.
Stronger than the GTI.

They should have tested the 2 door
Pocket rockets FTW!
Haha at 4:23, "But like all glofs.."
37 grand? No dsg?
No DSG for american market till the GOLF 7 came out. 2015 and on wards
Sounds like it matches the 2004 R32...
I know that but I would at least get the option, Europe has it but we don't.

Fernando Pereyra you are absolutely right buddy, you can make anything fast.
@69mrbrightside691 maybe he got a MK7/7.5 R
Cool another VW for my Impala SS to mess with.
US regs
Not VW,s fault
When he says golf, it sounds like he's saying goff.
Id rather buy a GTI, or with that money Id much prefer a STI, Evo, or Genesis Coupe 3.8.
FORE!!
" Back in 2004" !!
this is a drivers golf and should know how to launch it manually and not make a fool of themselves
over price you can get a nice car for that.
fuck no I would buy this over an Sti or Evo

John Panera I knew they always reserve better for the Mother Land but dam! Good to know John, thanks.

as most german made cars
winn.:R
Niche is pronounced 'neesh' not 'nich' lol
It rather buy a ford mustang for only $30,000
mazda speed 3
obviously that's a flaw LOL
too expensive...
Yawn
