Technically yes. But it would be extremely expensive and hard, and probably not entirely accurate especially in what it’s made of. Not only would it be extremely hard and expense a lot of it would go bad before the rest could be finished. It would also be made but not editable, again expense but plausible. The “herding cats” commercial was funny because it took a saying, “like herding cats,” to its literal conclusion. And because anyone who’s spent time around a cat knows the idea is absurd.
It wasn’t just weird for the sake of weirdness.
They also did the Japanese girl hacking car manufacturing, running of the squirrels, and building airplanes in the sky.

That said I have never purchased that gum in my life because Mentos Gum not only tastes better but has one of the first ridiculous commercials I remember ever seeing right next to the Yahoo commercial with the big afro guy and MAKE 7 UP YOURS.

When you mentioned "for better or worse" the Quiznos dead rats instantly came to mind. It was the main reason I've never ever tried eating at a Quiznos. There is such a thing as bad publicity.
They really should have used the dead rats to represent their competitors. Would have at least damaged the whole market sector instead of just their own.

But it turns out that's a quote from an add for a product that didn't last very long. And the idea that the quote far outlived a product that I'm sure my parents never bought is crazy to think about! 😄

You mentioned that the increase in total commercial exposure drives advertisers to be more creative, but there's also the fact (as you mentioned at the end) that more people _skip_ ads, avoid them, or don't watch them. This even more so would drive advertisers to become meme-worthy, so it gets back around to the people who don't watch them _and_ gets those people to watch them _as the entertainment_ rather than a distraction.
Ad companies are already attempting to jump in the meme market. So far, none of it seems to work because it is inorganic. Most people in general are tired of ads anyway, so making it a meme won't send sales skyrocketing.

I was a sophomore in high school when those ads came out. My AP English teacher was obsessed with it. We had his class first thing in the morning and he would make us watch the commercials DAILY. Even when the Little Lad put out a video teaching you how to do the Little Lad Dance. We saw every version of the Berries and Cream Starburst commercials.
I have not let that man live it down. Over the years, every high schooler (or their parents) I've run across that had his class I've told them to ask him about the Little Lad. To the point that he knows where I work, who I know, and who to avoid.

Food theory: are skittles all the same flavor (or taste, whichever word technically excludes smell). I think smell should be a crucial part, but some people say that it shouldn’t be included if the chemical makeup of the skittle is the same and the only difference is the smell
I also commented about Skittles only smelling different, not tasting different 👍
It appears the only thing that tastes different is the outside bit and it just mixes together with the inside when you chew it.

I think smell is an integral part of what we call taste in ordinary language, like if someone loses there sense of smell (hopefully temporarily) they will complain that food tastes different or even has lost flavour. The only way that taste only means what your taste buds on your tongue detect is if we are being technical and trying to define exact sensory pathways, rather than experience.
Note visual presentation probably changes our taste experience, I would not be surprised if skittles deliver a different experience depending on whether you are tasting them while looking at them versus wearing a blindfold etc.

As an older gen Z who is preparing to get my own place eventually, I have phased out watching tv almost entirely. There are only a few shows I watch and I definitely won’t be getting cable when I do move out. So all the adds I see are on the internet. I definitely prefer the adds like Tacobell’s where they put effort into them and make a production out of it.

Even my parents don't have cable TV anymore; the few shows they each care about are available in some form online now, and even if you had a subscription to all the streaming services available now it'd still be cheaper than cable.
This! I stopped watching cable about 10 years ago and told my parents to stop paying for it since no one in the house watches it either. It's just a waste of money at this point and I'll just pay for the internet and that's it.
Gen z and moved out and only use streaming and TH-cam. My dad is gen x and he only uses Hulu and Netflix for like basically everything, my mom is the only one who watches cable

Two things this video made me think of:
One was the most memorable commercial I've ever seen, a Burger King super bowl ad for breakfast meals, set to an incredibly catchy tune that I still remember almost word for word to this day.
Two, based on the ending segment, is an ad deal taken by TH-cam content creator Karl Smallwood for his Fact Fiend channel. Karl is notoriously picky about accepting sponsors, having high standards for who he works with as he finds the deals given by most companies to be too untrustworthy and too insulting to his audience. So most of the people he has ended up taking advertisements from have been smaller businesses, who he offers a fair price. One such deal was with a guy who sells wool for making into yarn I believe. It was an attempt to drum up business by making a deal with a creator he liked, and it actually paid off for him incredibly well, to the point he paid for a second video advertisement, which is just really touching I think. When Karl Smallwood advertises something, you know it's a genuine thing.

Good point about AdBlockbeing a thing... I don't really see anything resembling a commercial anymore. I pay youtube to not show me ads, I actively avoid sites where ads can't be blocked, I avoid traditional social media, and I don't watch television... so it mostly amounts to podcast ads that make their way to me.

In the Netherlands. An insurance company made very popular commercials with the slogan "Even Apeldoorn bellen". They haven't done so in a long time, but now I got one of their ads out of nowwhere with the same formule. Like the picked it up again after 10 years.
For a lot of Dutch people on TH-cam, it will be nostalgia when they get this new ad.
There are companies that still run their old commercials from the 90's around the winter holidays, and they seem to do real well off the nostalgia of it all. Puffs tissues and Campbell's soup are two examples off the top of my head. M&Ms kinda does it sometimes as well.

That Quiznos commercial? When it first came out, I wrote a snail mail, honest to goodness ink and paper letter to the company, saying how much that commercial disturbed me, and that it certainly was not encouraging me to go and try Quiznos.
I honestly thought that I'd either hear nothing back, or they'd send me some coupons encouraging me to give their business a try.
Only about two weeks later I got an actual response!
It was a nearly polite and pretty curt letter saying that I was not the Quiznos target audience anyway!

This reminds me of when I wrote a letter to the Tootsie roll company because my dad told me that when he was a kid, if he found the Indian with the star on his sucker wrapper, then he'd take it to the gas station to get a free bag of suckers. I wrote to the company asking if they still did that. I got a response, but it was just the backstory of the Indian with the star.
I desperately want to know who their target audience was.

So it's not quite full scale oddvertising but I feel like an early form of it could be the "energizer bunny" commercials from way back int he day. They did the fake ad just to be interrupted by the real ad which was pretty crazy back in the 90's
My favorite part of the Berries and Cream dance instructional video is how says " and now mummy is gone" before looking down at the floor in sorrow before immediately snapping back into his gimmick.
