A12XER Corsa D 1.2 engine noise

- That noise was much more quiet a while ago but now it is really loud. Its not the timing chain even though engine has 90k on it my mechanic said timing is still fine. We had a we listen to the engine through stetoscope and found that number 1 & 4 on fuel rail gives a more of a bass sounding noise where in 2 & 3 I can hear more of a echo rather than bass. Any answers much appreciated!
This video is showing diffrent noises that came from this engine. The engine at the time had 90k miles. The loudest ticking noise was the evaporation valve, the whistling noise that was heared on the left side of the engine was due to damaged rotor inside water pump which was replaced along with the belt. The engine then covered another 66k miles without any issues, oil & filter was changed every 6k miles. If serviced correctly the timing chain will last for the lifetime of this engine. There was another ticking noise and this was caused by hydraulic tappets, never caused me issues though so was never replaced.

All the corsas ive heard make that noise. Often seen em run for ages like that. What it is really is the oil pumps on em is too small for the engine. It cant keep up oil pressure to deaden the sound at idle. Above 1200 rpm it wont be chattery
Can be 3 things 1) pcv valve 2) petrol evaporation valve 3) timing chain tensor
Think my sons is the purge valve as it’s coming from where it is. Gonna replace and give the throttle body a clean as well.
I'd check your fuel evaporation valve at the back. Mine made that noise and it's LOUD. 20 quid and 15 minutes faffing about solved it. That is NOT your timing chain.
As mentioned in pinned comment, it was indeed evaporation valve.
Fuel tank ventilation valve, it's noisy and should be changed... but apart for the noise it makes, it's safe to drive the car.
I have a Chevrolet Spin (1.2L A12XER), it makes this ticking noice but not as loud as this. My usual workshop told me it's the canister purge valve 😢
Yes erg valve ticks. On my 15 plate sting it's loud because the pipework attached to the bulkhead. You can put your hand around it and feel it .
This is from flaps. Change tha mainfold assembly or or cancel the flaps valve.
That just sounds like tappets to me
I have the same sound, runs ok. I also had a rattle when I slowly pulled off,which I later realised was the cover that covers the Ignition coil,when fixed in place was still loose and rattledthen the engine shook..
you mean the small rattle (like 5-6 small knocks) when you first pull off at about ~ 10kmh, right before first to second gear? bruuuuh thank you man
@@KGKolibri yeah, it kind of sounded like a rattling exhaust. Put some fome or plastic under the endge of it so it cant rattle, then try it next time... I cut some plastic tube around the edge and its worked....
just seen a really good video same sort of noise was swirl flaps but on a 1.0 corsa he took of a vacum hose and the noise completly went not sure if you can try the same on this model . worn out bushes on the manifold
You could never say for sure without stripping engine down a doctors listening device could help you pin point if it’s coming from rocker or the chain housing I’d is the car worth a rebuild if no use thicker oil and run until it dies these motors are known to keep going

Hi. I would like to ask a question. I have opel corsa d 1.2 66K km . When car is car 4th gear between 1700 -2000 rpm snd shift to 5th gear a knocking out sound comes from engine. 3rd to 4th is same. But when i use agressivley mean that higher rpm no knocking out sounds comes. Is this how vorsa engine works or same thing wrong hsppen in engine

Check my other video on gearbox noise. Sounds possibly like same issue. Easy way to check, put front of the car on axle stands and put it in 3rd or 4th gear, let the wheels roll up in the air and listen for the noise. JUST PLEASE MAKE SURE ITS SECURE ON AXLE STANDS.
Youre timing chain is loose bro.Simple chain change and the noisy clicking is away.A light clicking behind the motor is normal.That are the fuel imjectors.They opens and closes with a magnetic mechanism .and that maked that light click noise.But this loud wobble clicking is the timing chain that slaps against the chain shields.
Oh if the chain rattles in one of these, it fairly rattles. That noise youre hearing in the video is a mixture of hydraulic tappets and the fuel injectors snapping shut. If the timing chain rattles, its considerably louder and 9 times out of 10 the oil light and check engine light go balistic too. These engines are known to pop the head gasket too so keep an eye on the coolant
Timing chain or one of the aux drive-belt pulleys
Check the codes if you get P1071 then change the purge valve pvc behind the throttle body.
Also the lifters could be a problem.
Mine rattled as feck and was still fine, so no error code, but it was on its way out for sure.
@@mirola73 Could be the lifters. Do a oil change and engine flush before it. Some people don't recommend engine flushes but if you've got rattling like that then put some engine flush in and do a oil change after. Mine ok now.
I have the same noise Dealer tells me it's injector chatter.

Hey, so ive done about 2 weeks of diagnostics, every day taking it for a spin and listening. There was a few things that made diffrent noises, I had water pump & aux belt replaced first, full service then, gearbox refurbrished due to knocking noise and most of the noises were gone. The annoying ticking noise turns out to be hydraulic tappets which will be replaced along with timing chain when time comes. Otherwise engine sounds like brand new now.
+Kieran Smith u mean one above fuel rail? I replaced it aswell and some clicking stopped, but other didnt.
That sounds like engine chain or belt. Nothing to do with gear box. Could of saved yourself cash on that one.
I have exactly the same sound and it is 84k kilometer only. the engine is a12xer aswell. Do you know it will make problem if not fixed?

@@danielnewman2840 take oil out engine leave sump nut off put 2 or 3 litres of diesel in engine let that come out sump then put sump nut back on put 3 litres of diesel in engine & start car for 30 sec then turn off engine take diesel out engine put sump nut back on it should be a t45 star & change oil filter & put fresh oil in car that's it job done please don't put in on TH-cam your very lucky I am telling you my skills
@@dannyjohal9817 😄😄😄, that will not help with his noise, that will only clear a bit of gunk and deposits in the engine, will not clean the tappets, nor will fix the chain. That's good practice to help clean the gunk out but not a miracle.
@@dannyjohal9817 all thatll do is remove a bit of carbon and sludge thats built up in the engine which shouldnt be there in the first place if you maintained it. Much more effective is to change the oil and filter every 10,000 km. Its a good bit before the factory recomendation however at the factory interval my car had more tar than oil in it. I do it at 10k now and hasnt failed me. These little opel 1.2 engines are just rattly and noisy at low rpms
