Your opinion matches my experience. I went in for a swing evaluation because I have trouble hitting driver. He had me swing my 8i on the video and we had a discussion about the good and bad of my swing. I actually liked the tech and the pro had some great insights about my swing and game. He was professional and friendly and seemed to know what he was talking about. All that said, after the evaluation, he plotted out a lesson plan/package that included every part of the game from iron swing, bunker play, short game, playing lessons, putting etc. It was a long year-long plan and ended up costing nearly $4k! If I wanted to commit to golf and improve my whole game, maybe I would have considered it, but I have a functional swing and hit my irons and wedges fairly well. I only really need/want help with driver. I get that swing flaws in irons are likely the same as the flaws in driver, but I don't want to spend a year or that much money to improve in the area I went in for. I won't say they're a scam, because the tech and the training was there, but the package was way to much for me.
Thanks for the feedback! I taught at a GolfTEC for over a year and ended up leaving because I could not sell what they wanted me to sell. I was too honest with the students and couldn't get myself to push a huge package when they didn't need it. It wasn't for me. Granted that was 15 years ago, but it shows you how much they rely on the sales portion (analysis) to stay in business.
I have an idea for an entire series of videos: decoding golf instructor speak. ep1 could be - Decoding "getting left" ep2 could be - Decoding "connected" and so on...
Interesting idea! I know there is so much jargon out there. Sometimes when I watch some videos on YT, I get lost in the terms they use, its a bit ridiculous sometimes. Let me think of a way to deliver this...
I’ve taken quite a few lessons at GolfTec, worked with two different coaches. Both taught a slightly different swing. The first coach taught a body swing. The guy I’m currently working with teaches pretty much teaches the Stack and Tilt method. The first guy didn’t really use the Tour comparison numbers. The guy I’m working now is Al about the number comparisons. I do like the Opti motion cameras it does really help to see what you doing.
Thanks for the feedback on your experience with golfTEC. I know they all go through a training program before they are able to teach which is about how to use their system to teach. Not sure if they monitor once they are out teaching. Appreciate it!
I went to a golftec sometime ago, went through the first lesson, at the end of the lesson the pro wanted me to sign up for 6 months of lessons for multiple thousands. I thanked him and walked out.
Golf lessons are not cheap by any means, at our academies we shy away from private lessons as they are very expensive and instead focus on group classes with lower ratios 3-4 per class. Keeps the cost down and our students enjoy the flow better. BUT golftec is a giant and successful for a reason. We will see how their future holds with the economy
One of the things that tolerant about your channel is you are very clear that there are many ways to swing well. Which is confirmed by the unique swings of furyk Rahm finau dj etc
Thank you! Yes there are plenty of ways to get it done! Especially for the average golfer, work with what you have and learn about the effects of proper fundamentals. Thanks for the comment!
Great work! love hearing your commentary in respect to lessons. I read your comment below on group lessons which I think is awesome and I think it depicts who you are as a coach and a person. Definitely would not be a good fit for GolfTEC
Appreciate it brother! Thanks for the comment and support of this channel! Now when are you going to send me your swing so I can help you? It’s what we do here and it’s all for free!
Kinda funny I happened to watch this after the Dodgers beat the Mets. I'm about to go back to Golftec for another set of lessons without the game plan. The game plan stuff allows you to come in and use their equipment and practice any time. I'm pretty much set for range balls, so I'll practice there. You can watch your lesson at home and practice the drills they provide. If you think of it like a music lesson once a week, you have to practice what you learn until your next time in. It's not worth it for people that don't practice between the lessons. Maybe 1 or 2 lessons from the local pro would do wonders for the new golfer. I think Golftec is for people who have the hunger to improve. I shoot in the mid 80s, and I know I can do better, so I'm ready to put in the work.
Thanks for the comment! Practice is correct, even with our students here at our academy we stress practice and have designed our own 350 skill practice app for them to utilize. Taking piano lessons without practice is a good example, it just makes the piano teacher richer. Go Dodgers!!
I had 4 lessons. Felt like the coach was always pushing me to pre buy a lot more. I left them all frustrated because the tech and angles and positions never stuck. And I had a home simulator to practice every day. I had much better success outdoors with a club pro that didn’t use much tech. Sometimes it’s about the right chemistry too.
Yeah chemistry is a big thing too. As far as I know the coaches are on commission, but I could be wrong now, but whenever someone is compensated on commission, it does change some things, that’s assuming it hasn’t changed. Your feedback is a common one I hear when I get students coming from golftec, but let’s hope it’s a minority
I’ve spent more money than I’d like to admit at my local Golftec. I improved, but not nearly enough to justify all the money. I compare it to a chiropractor, they want to make you better, but not enough so you don’t need to come back.
It takes two to tango. There are some people that will always think you can buy anything and there are some that will take advantage of this. Regardless of the intuition there will always be good and bad coaches. But I think GolfTEC principles are not about trust but profit which is sad especially for those that don't have a lot of money.
comparing our swing to pros at Golftec is counter productive.... most of us are amateurs without a "pro" atheletic body that cannot make the moves a pro golfer can. Our minds don't think in degrees ....15degrees from the inside etc. We learn by feel. Go to a driving range and take lessons from a PGA pro on real grass where you can see the "real" actual ball flight. Find a pro you like and stay with him/her.
Very true doglover! Thanks for the comment and feedback. GolfTEC is a giant, and they have capitalized on their system through technology, they are to me like Barnes and Nobles who put out the mom and pop bookstores, and are now being put out by Amazon. Unfortunately the PGA of America has failed its members in more way than one, and as usual, are playing catch up.
I just don't think the majority of people can learn or improve by this sort of tuition. Golf is about where the ball goes, if all you're trying to do is change where your arms or are where your hips are at 9 different positions in the swing then you're just tying yourself up in knots. Most people have some sort of functional match ups in their swing and most people have a natural tendancy that gets in the way of those match ups. A good pro will help you identify the nuances of your swing and teach you how to be aware of when the bad tendancies are getting in the way and how to get that out the way. Unfortunately a good pro doesn't need to see you that often and will probably be going over the same old things when they do. Obviously there will be someone who pipes up saying they rebuilt their swing from scratch blah blah blah. Well good for you, you're a unicorn!
Thanks for the feedback! The big question I have is, how can they expand to over 100 sites and have given over 2 million lessons? 😂 maybe it’s a system that is good for one time each person. If that’s the case they still got a few million more then they run out of test subjects. Thanks again!
@@liongolfacademyI think that sort of lesson appeals to a lot of people's logic. People think they can buy a golf swing. Let's be honest golf does attract those sorts of guys that have plenty of money and have had success elsewhere in life (generally speaking)
@@robertcourt8593 great point. I was fortunate enough to be around some successful people in their careers, and many times they have told me they would give up a lot of it if they can just hit the ball better 🤣this game is so strange
@@liongolfacademylol all I've ever done is made bad decisions and made life hard for myself.... What makes me think I could ever play golf decently! 😂
@@robertcourt8593 come on! That's why I started this channel to help the average golfer not fall for the snake oil out there in golf. Send me your swing videos Ill help you on Sundays live show.
That last video with the guy on the right showing the frontal view was horrible. Look at his lead leg, there is very little to no ground reaction force and it’s way too late in the swing. The lead leg never straightens for power. Not to mention, with the reverse ‘C’ follow through, he’ll have major back problems in the future. This swing is the old 1960s swing and I’d never ever want to emulate that kind of swing unless I wanted back surgery in the near future. I’m not a PGA pro, coach or anything close, but I am a 3 handicapper and can see a train wreck swing coming. I don’t know anything about Golf Tec nor do I know anyone who has had lessons with them, but if this is their teaching method they should be ashamed of themselves for promoting this as an ideal swing. Cheers.
Don't forget Sunday at 8pm PST, submit your swing to me to let me help you on your cause and effect! Tune in Live!

That would be cool! I’ve also always thought in front of where the student is aiming, there has to be a way to do that.
The answer to both questions... YES
