It'd be interesting to see a comparison of the different lab putters. Everyone always gravitates towards the DF3. I'd like to see the numbers for Mezz1 / Max as well
Loved the comparisons and the video. I used to putt normal and was decent 10ft and in, but long putts were killing my score, I changed about 8yrs ago. I have been putting face forward with a 41' putter that was bent for me. I will say my putting improved very quickly and it was easy to adjust to. I get a lot of looks and questions about it. I'm sure I get a lot of moans and growns about it being legal, but I absolutely love it. I don't anchor it, so it is 100% legal. I always wondered if the lab would do any better because it is definitely a straight thru putting style, I always say its like rolling the ball out of your hand while facing the hole. Speed control is so much easier because you use both eyes for depth.
LAB is great because you swing right through the shaft. And their upgrade shaft options are amazing, esp for a sweeper. There's a new GEARS that is a machine-wound carbon fiber shaft. Or you can go all in with the TPT. That's what Adam Scott plays.
Good video! Earlier over the summer i was remotely custom fit by LAB for the DF3. Sent in my video and they responded saying i need 72 deg. lie angle. I custom ordered mine at 72 deg., 36 inches, with counterbalanced & heavier head options. Also got the 17 in. LAB SS 3.0 grip and NN head marking. Best putter ive ever played and ive been golfing just over 30 years. This video backs its up, thanks. def. like to see the DF3 head to head against the OZ.
Incredible review guys, love it. The results are clear for all to see. Can't wait to try out a selection of these putters soon. LAB v much the putter to beat!
Was fitted into the df3, sadly it's winter here and golfing isn't possible. I've yet to take it on the course. All that being said, I've putted with it 1000 times in my living room and I absolutely love it. Can't wait for next season
Remember a guy named Dave Pelz yeah he was a golf genius-- all the pros said the putting stroke had to be an arc - pelz said hold my beer😊 he promoted straight back straight through 30 years ago. Now they make putters to do it 😊 Thank you Mr. Pelz
It should feel like straight back straight through, but in reality a slight arc. That’s what a computer measurement told me, and the coach that should be just right. Feel is not real, but it directs the ball with a more consistent start line if you feel like a straight stroke.
A consistent stoke in my opinion is when the shaft swings back and through straight on the plane it is set up at address. The putter head will naturally rotate if not manipulated and does not go back straight. Check out the Putter Board Plane (I think that’s what it’s called)
Thank you for a great review. By the way, LAB has a US patent on their technology so and exact copy in the US is not possible. I love my DF3, definitely pickle up a couple strokes, we'll worth the price.
Orderd the S2S Jailbird, Tried it in the shop. Yech it is a horrible putter. Weight, funky shaft angle, feel. Everything. Hated it. Thank god the boys in the shop let me off the hook for a treat. Next stop Oz. Lab is lightyears better
Good review. I'm a single index hdcp and game a DF3 and nothing will make me change outside of maybe the new Oz.1. Square to Square, Allan, Bettinardi are all just toe up putters. They aren't balanced to the lie angle and if you're a flat putter like me those dont work well. ie doesn't get the same staying square sensation. I'm at 66* and the 69* stock putter angle will make me pull putts to the left and the toe is up at address. Just shows getting fitted for a putter really helps. That minimal amount of torque in your hands can be the difference of 1* which results in a lip out vs ball going in.
Excellent comments. I’m the opposite. I’m 5’-6” tall but very upright. I was remotely custom fit by LAB, they determined my lie angle at 72°. I wound up ordering a counterbalanced , heavier head option with a 17 inch super stroke Lab 3.0 grip. Putter is lights out. The only putter that would make me take the DF3 out of my bag is the OZ.
@@stephendibari5010That set-up is unstoppable, especially with the long sight line. Mine will arrive in 5-7 weeks. I'm very curious about feel of the OZ insert but forgiveness still goes to DF3.
Great video, I have never tried a zero torque putter but would be interested in testing a few out, the one thing that I don't like about them is the forward shaft lean as I have never had a forward press in my putting stroke so it seems very strange to me, I am intrigued by the Lab OZ.1 which has just been released because it can be ordered with a vertical shaft and no forward shaft lean plus it looks much better to my eye than the other Lab putters.
Great comparison. I do believe the OG for zero torque is actually Odyssey with their BackStryke putter back in the day. I really wanted to love the square to square but hitting it live really put me off because of the forced forward press and when you try and sole the putter naturally the toe closes in massively. I have the Lab Link and it’s just so great. My proximity has improved greatly.
Which model of the square 2 square did you try? I tried the Jairbird one day and really liked it. Then tried the number 7 the week after and also found the face turning in when I grounded the putter.
@ the only one I didn’t try was the double wide. Both mallets did that weird face closing action. I just could not align it properly and the grip felt very off 🤷🏻♂️like I was fighting the putter
wow nice comprehensive analysis. pity you didn't include the Seemore mini giant I think they have been the pioneers of centre shafted putters in steward Payne fpg
Interesting results for the JailBreak putter, don't think it is the strongest in the line. Tried all 3 and ended up buying the No 7 fang shape. I think there is a misconception that you need a square to square stroke to use one of these. It suits me fine and I have an arch stroke, the idea is that they stay squarer to the path and returns to square at impact.
All strokes are arc strokes if done correctly. The head swings upon the lie angle plane. Straight back straight through can only happen with a 90* lie angle.
I am thinking of the OZ 1 but I want to see it in person first and get properly fitted! As a lefty that is difficult to find anywhere within hours of me!
By Face Change stats it goes Bettinardi, Axis1, lab, Callaway, PXG… isn’t that the data that matters more than Face Twist specifically when talking ‘zero torque’ because face change is how much the face opens or closes throughout the stroke? Face Twist which I think is how much the putter actually twists at impact is so tough to tell without a system like Quintic that has cameras. In any case curious @golfmagic what you think?
I enjoyed watching this. It raises questions, not which one is the "best" but which is best for me? I certainly can't afford to buy them all to find out. Also, I'm not convinced that "data" whatever it is, puts the ball in the hole. And, technique has to be considered somewhere in this investigation.
When you was spinning the putters to show the torque, you had the device attached to the putters which would make a big difference. But when you spun the LAB it didn't have the device attached, maybe a little misleading?
They needed a better putter in this test. Stroke looks horrible. Shaky, all over the place going back, heel and toe strikes at will, very up and down on the stroke itself. Doesn’t go low to the ground going back, he more lifts it straight up like a little chip shot green side. Idk. Test was a good idea but should use a 0 or 1 handicap. He probably more around 10-16 with a very inconsistent stroke.
0:59 Since the LAB has been around for what you say is awhile, that people would have gotten used to the look of it, but in fact people have not got used to it. So logically one could say that it is and always will be a rhino, and no matter how many reviewers shove it in my face, does not change the fact that it is an off putting design.
Only LAB putters truly works as zero torque, which will eventually assist any golfer to find a more neutral face/path to be delivered. If a brand is advertising the virtues of their zero torque range, they are then also undermining their other traditional toe flow and face balanced designs.

Here's what I have found. When you spend $600 on a putter, you want it to be the best even if it's not. That putter will not be the best putter for everyone but the people who've bought one will sure tell you it is regardless of the truth 🤣
Jailbird s2s hand down the best unless you have 800 for lab and then still isn’t noticeably better than the jailbird I had a mezz 1 max and it wasn’t it
