Hi John, I thought one of the important points in the video is that we were meant to get away from associating seasons from the point of one hemisphere alone? At the equator and southern hemisphere the seasons are wet and dry and reversed, respectively.

The thoughts on Cancer are really interesting, and I like how one of them mentions that crabs will move in a zig zag or indirect route to get where it's going and I thought about water and how it doesn't always move in a straight line but it always takes the path of last resistance. It shows us that these aren't always the same thing, many times a straight line is the path of *most* resistance, and much of eastern philosophy centers on this idea. If a straight line is through a brick wall, Aries will go straight through it, but Cancer wil flow around it, and encompass it, and have conserved all of its energy in the process.
Funny thing is Cancer will go the straight line or right through a brick wall route. Yet they won't do this for themselves. They will instead do it for someone else or to save or rescue a loved one in particular. All other times it's most likely the sideways route.

Geminis see duality (as opposed to Libras who see balance). We see the male and female aspects of things, which is why we can come across as duplicitous. This male-female duality is the source of the androgynous quality of Gemini (in addition to the androgynous quality of Mercury). Prince, for example, was a Gemini with Scorpio rising, and he said on Oprah once that he had two people inside of him- one male and one female.To me that is the essence of Gemini- this awareness of both sides of the coin at all times.

The segment about Leo was so accurate - to add to what you said, Madonna a person with Sun and Venus in Leo wrote the song "Spotlight" where she sings "everybody is a star, everyone is special in their own way..." which are almost the exact words you used for Leo! And many of her songs have this theme of how we are all special and how to shine... Also, Austin, thanks so much for putting in question the constant use of gender words to describe planets and signs in astrology - so refreshing and I think we should all start using the words Ying and Yang rather than feminine and masculine to take the emphasis off physical gender... language is so important to thinking!

I am a Leo sun, Taurus moon, Capricorn rising, and my Venus is Virgo. However, I don’t think I better than anyone. I think me coming from a difficult childhood and having so many challenges in life really humble me.

"Self-actualization" vs. "World-optimization" phrasing from Austin (in contrasting Leo & Virgo) was really helpful and resonated with me. I have prominent placements of both and definitely feel the stretch/tension of wanting to focus on both of these objectives.

I had my first cancerian figure experience via my uncle who was a sun in cancer, he was very wounded in early life but possessed extremely caring qualities he would buy me multiples of one gift or treat. He lost his mother at an early age and was raised by his sister...and he kept looking for motherly figures so he ended up marrying someone much much older than him who was an alcoholic and absent mother to her own children. Ironically they had two kids one was a cancer boy. My uncle asked us to bury him In his mothers /my grandmothers grave if he died. He married his 2nd wife and at some point they had an argument where she mocked him for saying he'd kill himself. That night he ended up shooting himself in the heart...and we had my grandmothers grave opened up and buried him there. After that we all felt a sort of peace like he finally was where he needed to be, with his mother. He was only 33. I also noticed many sun in cancers kill themselves, Robin William and Anthony Bourdain are some examples. It always comes as a shock because they are so nurturing.
Awesome description of Aries. I’m a libra rising with Saturn on my ascendant and I’ve always been drawn or attracted to fire signs but in the end their vitality and charm fizzles out pretty quickly because of their brash, selfish, inconsistent ways. This was too funny to hear.

Could you please do an equivalent show on the house meanings? There's so much variation in the meanings ascribed by different people. I listened to your 2014 podcast on the topic but you didn't run through all the specific meanings you find useful in that, or ones that you've come across empirically. It was mainly about the fact that there isn't a consistently good system or conceptual foundation for any of them, which left me wondering. Thanks for the great work.

The cycles of the Sun and the planets around the Zodiac are spiral, not circular. The polarities, the modalities and the elements all form waves of varying widths and no doubt the qualities of each sign could be visualised in a variety of ways that show the dynamic nature. I have Moon in Leo & I live for compliments which can be upsetting if I don't get any. Vain to the core which makes me want to take care of myself to feel good & proud of myself. I maintain that discipline to work out.
I'm in Aries (sun, mercury, Venus, and Mars) and I love how during the Aries part she said that we all have all 12 zodiac signs somewhere in our chart. I have absolutely zero Earth signs in my tropical chart. I do have some houses in an earth sign, but in terms of my tropical chart, there is absolutely zero Earth. When I found that out, I thought it was really funny! And then it showed me the areas that I needed to compensate for that. Lol Anyway, super informative and entertaining as well ☺️

Love your show! Was just watching the Leo segment, and thought it was interesting that you all mentioned the sun’s association with the right eye and the moon with the left. In Hatha Yoga, the right side of the body is the masculine side, and the left side is the feminine side. Also interesting that the right side of the brain (the emotional/feminine side) controls the left side of the body; and the left side of the brain (the logical/masculine side) controls the right side of the body. And I think it “crosses wires” at the ocular nerve. Love your show - I’m learning a lot!

I’m a cancer and on my 30 years on earth I’ve become curious about who I really am as a person, literally how I react and associated with different people and I’m learning I’m very interesting. I’m lost between staying in my comfort zone and coming out my shell learning from different life lessons
One thing that you may find interesting, is that the seasons, don't exactly begin and end where most would think them to. It is my personal belief, that we shouldn't just look to any one particular culture or area, to find how the ancients thought of things. Sure, if we want to go to the roots of Astrology itself, we would most likely have to go to Mesopotamia, for that is where the birth of Astrology happened from what we can see. But I do believe that many would find it absolutely fascinating to look into other cultures because often times they are more right than we are today. For example, in Celtic Traditions, one of the two Dippers, was the constellation of the Great Bear, where the North Star is located. And moreover, the North Star, is associated with the sign of Aquarius. Ancient cultures, often more times than not, began and ended, with the earth itself as their bases for everything. And it would be understandable, seeing as, this is where we are from. I'll use a culture that nearly everyone has access to their history to at least to a degree, the Celts and Pre-Celtica, as our example; because what they believed in where each of the seasons began and ended, was nearly universal, around the world. Even the Native Americans believe it to be this way to this day, and also, modern science would confirm this. Spring: It begins on the closest New Moon to February 1st, which is the first of the four Cross Quarters, and is called Imbolc in Celtic Traditions. Summer: It begins on the closest Full Moon to May 1st, which is the second of the four Cross Quarters, and is called Beltane in Celtic Traditions. Autumn: It begins on the closest Full Moon to August 1st, which is the third of the four Cross Quarters, and is called Lammas in Celtic Tradtions. Winter: It begins on the closest New Moon to November 1st, which is the fourth and final Cross Quarter, and is called Samhain in Celtic Traditions. They did observe the Equinoxes and Solstices of each year as well, but they were seen as the middle or "height" of a season, rather the beginning of a season. The finest example of this, to show what I speak of, is the season of Summer. The middle of Summer happens, when the Sun is at its highest point in the sky (i.e. highest, height, middle), and marks when the Sun begins its journey back to the Southern Hemisphere for those in the Northern Hemisphere; hence, the middle of Summer, announcing the coming of Autumn and Winter. Some people of the modern era use the Sun, rather than the Moon, to mark each of the four Cross Quarters of each year. But Classically, the Sun was used to mark the Equinoxes and the Solstices, and the Moon was used to mark each of the Cross Quarters as shown above. And also, if one understands how the seasons themselves are closely intertwined and connected with the cycle and story of life, one should have no problem interchanging the signs from what they would be in Northern Hemisphere to the Southern Hemisphere. The season of Spring is all about new birth and vigorous growth (i.e. birth and childhood), the season of Summer is all about abundance and bounty (i.e. adulthood), the season of Autumn is all about wisdom and preparedness (i.e. right up the Will to get ready for the "Harvest", ect.), and the season of Winter is all about hibernation and reflection (i.e. "death", etc.). An Aries in the Northern Hemisphere would be connected to the season of Spring, which means they have more of a childhood attitude towards life; whereas, an Aries in the Southern Hemisphere, would be connected to the season of Autumn, and would take on a little bit more of a wiser aspect of their characteristics. Still an Aries, nonetheless, just one is more childlike in their characteristics, and the other is wiser. However, an Aries born on the Equator itself, or really close or near to the Equator, will have more of a "Solaris" attitude in life. This is just one example, of course, but should do well enough. And oh, the classical four elements you were talking about, I'll give them here. Classical Model Air: Was seen as Dry. Fire: Was seen as Hot. Water: Was seen as Wet. Earth: Was seen as Cold. Aristotle's Classical Model Air: Was seen as Warm and Wet. Fire: Was seen as Hot and Dry. Water: Was seen as Cool and Wet. Earth: Was seen as Cold and Dry. Aristotle changed the refernce for each of the four elements because he recognized humidity in the air. Air is not necessarily dry, just walk out in the morning, and you will often find fog. But when something is Hot, it's also Dry. Obviously to anyone, unless they have been living under a rock, but even then, they should recognize that Water is Wet. And the Earth is usually Cold to the touch, even in the desert, where there is shade. As far as changing Air to "Warm" rather than stating it as "Hot", that would be for the reason, of stating is as "Mild" but a little warmer than just "Mild", and the same would be true for Water but in the opposite thinking. Air is the Allied Element of Fire, so naturally, it should be a little warmer. And Water is the Allied Element of Earth, and once more, should be naturally a little cooler. In the case of either model, you create a geometric square diamond, and place Air on the left corner, Fire on the top corner, Water on the right corner, and Earth on the bottom corner. After having created the geometric square with the elements in their correct possitions, you'll find in the Classical Model, Dry opposes Wet, and Hot oppeses Cold. In Aristotle's Model, the same is true for Hot and Cold opposing each other while both now have the quality of Dry, but now Warm and Cool oppose each other as well in the statement of "Mild" but a little in one diection or the other while each have the quality of Wet. In Aristotle's model, two are Dry, and two are Wet; while one is Mildly Warm, one is Hot, one is Mildly Cool, and one is Cold.
Omg the part about Taurus having to go through (and understands) sequencing is so accurate for me (a Taurus). I've actually never understood it as a Taurus trait, I just thought it was a quirk of mine. To me, everything has a natural and logical sequence and if things don't follow that I get very irritated.
My daughter is a Gemini and was on a debate team in high school and traveled around for debates. Wow. I'm a Taurus with 1 son Taurus, 1 son Capricorn and 2 daughters in Gemini. My first 3 were born exactly 2 yrs and 10 days apart. May 11th, 21st and 31st. My youngest is my Capricorn and a late Christmas present 28th. 2:10:13 - You're searching for a word. The word is "true". Like when you read a map. You'll orient the map and align yourself, so that North on the map is facing North in real life. Then you can see, going forward on the map is going forward in real life. This is called "truing" a map. When the map is aligned with where you want to be, or you are aligned with the direction that you seek... that is being "true". This is a fascinating video, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I am brand new to the field of astrology, and I am very curious to learn how zodiacs, and palm reading, and tea leaves, and chakras, and herbology works. This is a beautiful crash course of what each of the signs mean. I've learned a lot.

Chris, this was amazing btw! And I'm so glad you brought up the "corrective element" as you move from one sign to the next. I think about this All the Time!!! I think there's definitely something there that is intentional and as I've spent time with the progression between signs, I think it also boils down into how masculine completes/corrects feminine AND feminine completes/corrects masculine. The two are woven together in the cycle itself where the Universe is "setting us up for success" so to speak like it's giving us the best possible chance for remaining balanced within ourselves as we make our laps around the Sun. Depending on each individual's mutability, we truly can bring to life each part of ourselves as the Sun moves through each sign. The masculine and the feminine and how we must balance both within ourselves to find true "Health" is soooooooo fascinating and I feel like the Sun's course is naturally breeding balance aka Health. I would only briefly like to notice that it would have been great to have heard just a bit more in regards to health issues pertaining to each sign and also how they behave in each house. I feel that we have mostly heard about personal traits and characteristics regarding each sign without much mentioning on how they influence houses for example. I do not have any planet in Taurus so I have always counted myself as out of the "Taurus people" club, desolately, because I like the Taurus archetype so warmfully. As you were talking about the cultivation of taste and the value of things and the touch of snobbinishness, I could not call me out, so I wondered about my chart in relation to Taurus: actually Venus, which rules my 2nd so the way I spend my money, among other things, is conjunct the ruler of my Ascendant and is in the 5th, so her house of Joy. All this to say, listening to you is enlightening, I want to make the next move, beyond the direct association "planet in such sign" or "planet in such house", so to get the more intricate and less obvious relations in a chart,. Your work is precious, thank you Kelly and Austin, and thank you Chris for hosting such high quality overviews.

Mutable signs also represent the end of a season and preparation for the next. Gemini (end of spring prepares summer) Virgo (end of summer prepares fall) Sag (end of fall prepares winter) Pisces (end of winter prepares spring) changeable, adaptable, flexible.

Hi John, I thought one of the important points in the video is that we were meant to get away from associating seasons from the point of one hemisphere alone? At the equator and southern hemisphere the seasons are wet and dry and reversed, respectively.

The thoughts on Cancer are really interesting, and I like how one of them mentions that crabs will move in a zig zag or indirect route to get where it's going and I thought about water and how it doesn't always move in a straight line but it always takes the path of last resistance. It shows us that these aren't always the same thing, many times a straight line is the path of *most* resistance, and much of eastern philosophy centers on this idea. If a straight line is through a brick wall, Aries will go straight through it, but Cancer wil flow around it, and encompass it, and have conserved all of its energy in the process.

Funny thing is Cancer will go the straight line or right through a brick wall route. Yet they won't do this for themselves. They will instead do it for someone else or to save or rescue a loved one in particular. All other times it's most likely the sideways route.

Geminis see duality (as opposed to Libras who see balance). We see the male and female aspects of things, which is why we can come across as duplicitous. This male-female duality is the source of the androgynous quality of Gemini (in addition to the androgynous quality of Mercury). Prince, for example, was a Gemini with Scorpio rising, and he said on Oprah once that he had two people inside of him- one male and one female.To me that is the essence of Gemini- this awareness of both sides of the coin at all times.

The segment about Leo was so accurate - to add to what you said, Madonna a person with Sun and Venus in Leo wrote the song "Spotlight" where she sings "everybody is a star, everyone is special in their own way..." which are almost the exact words you used for Leo! And many of her songs have this theme of how we are all special and how to shine... Also, Austin, thanks so much for putting in question the constant use of gender words to describe planets and signs in astrology - so refreshing and I think we should all start using the words Ying and Yang rather than feminine and masculine to take the emphasis off physical gender... language is so important to thinking!

I had my first cancerian figure experience via my uncle who was a sun in cancer, he was very wounded in early life but possessed extremely caring qualities he would buy me multiples of one gift or treat. He lost his mother at an early age and was raised by his sister...and he kept looking for motherly figures so he ended up marrying someone much much older than him who was an alcoholic and absent mother to her own children. Ironically they had two kids one was a cancer boy. My uncle asked us to bury him In his mothers /my grandmothers grave if he died. He married his 2nd wife and at some point they had an argument where she mocked him for saying he'd kill himself. That night he ended up shooting himself in the heart...and we had my grandmothers grave opened up and buried him there. After that we all felt a sort of peace like he finally was where he needed to be, with his mother. He was only 33. I also noticed many sun in cancers kill themselves, Robin William and Anthony Bourdain are some examples. It always comes as a shock because they are so nurturing.
What an extremely sad story. I hope your last statement isn't true. My 10 year old daughter is cancerian.

I’m a libra rising with Saturn on my ascendant and I’ve always been drawn or attracted to fire signs but in the end their vitality and charm fizzles out pretty quickly because of their brash, selfish, inconsistent ways. This was too funny to hear.

Could you please do an equivalent show on the house meanings? There's so much variation in the meanings ascribed by different people. I listened to your 2014 podcast on the topic but you didn't run through all the specific meanings you find useful in that, or ones that you've come across empirically. It was mainly about the fact that there isn't a consistently good system or conceptual foundation for any of them, which left me wondering.

I'm in Aries (sun, mercury, Venus, and Mars) and I love how during the Aries part she said that we all have all 12 zodiac signs somewhere in our chart. I have absolutely zero Earth signs in my tropical chart. I do have some houses in an earth sign, but in terms of my tropical chart, there is absolutely zero Earth. When I found that out, I thought it was really funny! And then it showed me the areas that I needed to compensate for that. Lol

Love your show! Was just watching the Leo segment, and thought it was interesting that you all mentioned the sun’s association with the right eye and the moon with the left. In Hatha Yoga, the right side of the body is the masculine side, and the left side is the feminine side. Also interesting that the right side of the brain (the emotional/feminine side) controls the left side of the body; and the left side of the brain (the logical/masculine side) controls the right side of the body. And I think it “crosses wires” at the ocular nerve. Love your show - I’m learning a lot!

I’m a cancer and on my 30 years on earth I’ve become curious about who I really am as a person, literally how I react and associated with different people and I’m learning I’m very interesting. I’m lost between staying in my comfort zone and coming out my shell learning from different life lessons
One thing that you may find interesting, is that the seasons, don't exactly begin and end where most would think them to. It is my personal belief, that we shouldn't just look to any one particular culture or area, to find how the ancients thought of things. Sure, if we want to go to the roots of Astrology itself, we would most likely have to go to Mesopotamia, for that is where the birth of Astrology happened from what we can see. But I do believe that many would find it absolutely fascinating to look into other cultures because often times they are more right than we are today. For example, in Celtic Traditions, one of the two Dippers, was the constellation of the Great Bear, where the North Star is located. And moreover, the North Star, is associated with the sign of Aquarius. Ancient cultures, often more times than not, began and ended, with the earth itself as their bases for everything. And it would be understandable, seeing as, this is where we are from.
I'll use a culture that nearly everyone has access to their history to at least to a degree, the Celts and Pre-Celtica, as our example; because what they believed in where each of the seasons began and ended, was nearly universal, around the world. Even the Native Americans believe it to be this way to this day, and also, modern science would confirm this.
Spring: It begins on the closest New Moon to February 1st, which is the first of the four Cross Quarters, and is called Imbolc in Celtic Traditions.
Summer: It begins on the closest Full Moon to May 1st, which is the second of the four Cross Quarters, and is called Beltane in Celtic Traditions.
Autumn: It begins on the closest Full Moon to August 1st, which is the third of the four Cross Quarters, and is called Lammas in Celtic Tradtions.
Winter: It begins on the closest New Moon to November 1st, which is the fourth and final Cross Quarter, and is called Samhain in Celtic Traditions.
They did observe the Equinoxes and Solstices of each year as well, but they were seen as the middle or "height" of a season, rather the beginning of a season. The finest example of this, to show what I speak of, is the season of Summer. The middle of Summer happens, when the Sun is at its highest point in the sky (i.e. highest, height, middle), and marks when the Sun begins its journey back to the Southern Hemisphere for those in the Northern Hemisphere; hence, the middle of Summer, announcing the coming of Autumn and Winter. Some people of the modern era use the Sun, rather than the Moon, to mark each of the four Cross Quarters of each year. But Classically, the Sun was used to mark the Equinoxes and the Solstices, and the Moon was used to mark each of the Cross Quarters as shown above.
And also, if one understands how the seasons themselves are closely intertwined and connected with the cycle and story of life, one should have no problem interchanging the signs from what they would be in Northern Hemisphere to the Southern Hemisphere. The season of Spring is all about new birth and vigorous growth (i.e. birth and childhood), the season of Summer is all about abundance and bounty (i.e. adulthood), the season of Autumn is all about wisdom and preparedness (i.e. right up the Will to get ready for the "Harvest", ect.), and the season of Winter is all about hibernation and reflection (i.e. "death", etc.). An Aries in the Northern Hemisphere would be connected to the season of Spring, which means they have more of a childhood attitude towards life; whereas, an Aries in the Southern Hemisphere, would be connected to the season of Autumn, and would take on a little bit more of a wiser aspect of their characteristics. Still an Aries, nonetheless, just one is more childlike in their characteristics, and the other is wiser. However, an Aries born on the Equator itself, or really close or near to the Equator, will have more of a "Solaris" attitude in life. This is just one example, of course, but should do well enough.
And oh, the classical four elements you were talking about, I'll give them here.
Classical Model
Air: Was seen as Dry.
Fire: Was seen as Hot.
Water: Was seen as Wet.
Earth: Was seen as Cold.
Aristotle's Classical Model
Air: Was seen as Warm and Wet.
Fire: Was seen as Hot and Dry.
Water: Was seen as Cool and Wet.
Earth: Was seen as Cold and Dry.
Aristotle changed the refernce for each of the four elements because he recognized humidity in the air. Air is not necessarily dry, just walk out in the morning, and you will often find fog. But when something is Hot, it's also Dry. Obviously to anyone, unless they have been living under a rock, but even then, they should recognize that Water is Wet. And the Earth is usually Cold to the touch, even in the desert, where there is shade. As far as changing Air to "Warm" rather than stating it as "Hot", that would be for the reason, of stating is as "Mild" but a little warmer than just "Mild", and the same would be true for Water but in the opposite thinking. Air is the Allied Element of Fire, so naturally, it should be a little warmer. And Water is the Allied Element of Earth, and once more, should be naturally a little cooler. In the case of either model, you create a geometric square diamond, and place Air on the left corner, Fire on the top corner, Water on the right corner, and Earth on the bottom corner. After having created the geometric square with the elements in their correct possitions, you'll find in the Classical Model, Dry opposes Wet, and Hot oppeses Cold. In Aristotle's Model, the same is true for Hot and Cold opposing each other while both now have the quality of Dry, but now Warm and Cool oppose each other as well in the statement of "Mild" but a little in one diection or the other while each have the quality of Wet. In Aristotle's model, two are Dry, and two are Wet; while one is Mildly Warm, one is Hot, one is Mildly Cool, and one is Cold.
Omg the part about Taurus having to go through (and understands) sequencing is so accurate for me (a Taurus). I've actually never understood it as a Taurus trait, I just thought it was a quirk of mine. To me, everything has a natural and logical sequence and if things don't follow that I get very irritated.

2:10:13 - You're searching for a word. The word is "true". Like when you read a map. You'll orient the map and align yourself, so that North on the map is facing North in real life. Then you can see, going forward on the map is going forward in real life. This is called "truing" a map. When the map is aligned with where you want to be, or you are aligned with the direction that you seek... that is being "true".
This is a fascinating video, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I am brand new to the field of astrology, and I am very curious to learn how zodiacs, and palm reading, and tea leaves, and chakras, and herbology works. Chris, this was amazing btw! And I'm so glad you brought up the "corrective element" as you move from one sign to the next. I think about this All the Time!!! I think there's definitely something there that is intentional and as I've spent time with the progression between signs, I think it also boils down into how masculine completes/corrects feminine AND feminine completes/corrects masculine. The two are woven together in the cycle itself where the Universe is "setting us up for success" so to speak like it's giving us the best possible chance for remaining balanced within ourselves as we make our laps around the Sun. Depending on each individual's mutability, we truly can bring to life each part of ourselves as the Sun moves through each sign. The masculine and the feminine and how we must balance both within ourselves to find true "Health" is soooooooo fascinating and I feel like the Sun's course is naturally breeding balance aka Health. Can you possibly do a series where you go over all the signs/house/planets combination? I know that's a lot to ask, but even just do a partial one will help us a lot. So for example, can you do a video on Gemini in Venus in all 12 houses? And maybe do another video on Scorpio in Saturn in all 12 houses?

I'm a Sag rising and my friend is a Virgo rising. Sometimes (most of the times) I overwhelm them with knowledge and they have to digest it.
Thank you for this great episode. I would only briefly like to notice that it would have been great to have heard just a bit more in regards to health issues pertaining to each sign and also how they behave in each house. I feel that we have mostly heard about personal traits and characteristics regarding each sign without much mentioning on how they influence houses for example. I understand that this is a different topic, but short multi-sided description would have been helpful. Still, wonderful to listen to you guys. Warm regards

I do not have any planet in Taurus so I have always counted myself as out of the "Taurus people" club, desolately, because I like the Taurus archetype so warmfully. As you were talking about the cultivation of taste and the value of things and the touch of snobbinishness, I could not call me out, so I wondered about my chart in relation to Taurus: actually Venus, which rules my 2nd so the way I spend my money, among other things, is conjunct the ruler of my Ascendant and is in the 5th, so her house of Joy.
All this to say, listening to you is enlightening, I want to make the next move, beyond the direct association "planet in such sign" or "planet in such house", so to get the more intricate and less obvious relations in a chart,. Your work is precious, thank you Kelly and Austin, and thank you Chris for hosting such high quality overviews.
I'm an Aries rising and my north node is in Aries. I don't really like leading and I'm afraid of everything. But I'm brave and also impatient and I usually end up leading because I get tired of watching everyone hesitate first
