    My favorite hidden gem is Tech Dweeb. He's not as hidden as he was when I first discovered him, and the recent growth of the channel is great to see. Especially with those glorious hands!!! Keep doing your thing Mr. Dweeb. You're awesome, and your success as a channel is definitely well deserved in my opinion. My favorite SNES game isn't so hidden, but it's TMNT Turtles in Time. I still replay it several times a year, and I've done so since it was first released, and I'll continue to do so until I physically can't play games anymore. Thanks dude!!!

    Great list, Dweeb! May I also recommend Metal Warriors. Why is it cool? It's got different mechs you can pilot. You can jump out of your mech and fight on foot, which makes it Titanfall almost twenty years before Titanfall was Titanfall. It's got one of the coolest SNES intros ever. And it's named METAL WARRIORS!

    Kunoichi is commonly used for 'female ninja' in Japanese (technically it's more like the less dominant one in a relationship, but is also a play on the written character for 'woman'). So Ninja and Kunoichi are appropriate names in The Ninja Warriors

    Thank you TechDweeb! I love your "hidden gems" videos, but with that one you brought childhood memories and solved my long searching for a mysterious arcade machine game in a coffee shop in a hotel where my family used to go on a vacation...the King of Dragons! I did not remember the name of it, but when i saw in the video I recognized it immediately! Thank you a lot! And thanks for the great and fun content!

    I'm SO happy you covered E.V.O. Search For Eden!!!! this was my FAVORITE childhood SNES game! I recently went back to my parent's house to retrieve the cart for it but my brother sold it to a local store without knowing its worth 😢. and now it's WAY too expensive to buy back. safe to say I was gutted by learning this. luckily I still have a ROM of it and can still get my fix. but man, so many hours were spent playing that amazing game. getting to the final level and becoming a dragon was my favorite.

    These gems are more than just great games. They are prime examples of when game design was developing into its own art form, and unapologetically, at that. Take a look at the character select screen from Wild Guns (5:59) ... don't those two look great? All that gorgeousness just to decide which murderer you wanted to be. Thank you for sharing, T.Dweeb.

  • @flightless
    @flightless 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    My SNES hidden gem recommendation is one that got a fan translation patch: The Violinist of Hameln (Hameln no Violin Hiki). It's sort of a puzzle platformer. You play as an adventurer whose violin is his weapon, and he has a girl sidekick who you command by telling her to stay or follow, by throwing her, or by having her wear various costumes that give her different abilities. It's silly in the best way, and absolutely worth checking out!
    I knew of all of your recommendations this time, but I still loved the video! A couple of these are among the Natsume games that got recent enhanced remasters on Steam (The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Ninja Warriors, Wild Guns Reloaded, Pocky & Rocky Reshrined), which you should definitely grab if you don't have on Steam or Switch.
    I also want to mention that the RG35XX+ recently got a new version of muOS which greatly improved performance and compatibility, including more playable portmaster ports! I've got AM2R, Annalynn, Bot Vice, Murtop, Shovel Knight Treasure Trove, Sonic Mania, and TMNT Shredder's Revenge on mine! (I recommend those specifically for this device. There are a number of great portmaster games that I'm not recommending because they need just a bit more power or screen size than the RG35XX+ can provide, such as Runner2, Balatro, and Boneraiser Minions.)

  • @danwichgames
    @danwichgames 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I know it is not really a hidden gem anymore but when i found the English patch for terranigma as a kid i thought it was the greatest game ever. It was a pretty major feat to even get a snes emulator up and running back then so than having the extra street cred of having a unreleased in the us arpg running on you ibm think pad we legendary with a certain crowd. Normal people would just ask if you had mario 3 or pokemon on that thing. Also Shiren the Wanderer Mystery Dungeon 2 was a pretty major find in my life and is probably the root of my love for roguelikes. The ds version has all but replaced the snes version but the memories remain.

    Great video, I'm adding EVO to my list! I was trying to find something new to play on SNES recently and ended up trying out Brain Lord, which I admittedly got because the dumb name cracked me up. It's an action RPG from Enix that I didn't expect much from, but I haven't stopped playing it the last few days.

    The Ninja Warriors has been an absolute favorite of mine since I played it in 25 years ago on my old PC, and my opinion on its only grown as time has gone on. Absolutely amazing. I love spamming the attack where you jump off a bad guy onto another bad guy. It's one of those games I like playing on my MiSTer/CRT for that low latency experience.

    Battleclash is probably one of my favorite "hidden gems".
    I think it's more an issue that nobody I knew had a Super Scope for their SNES as they weren't common.
    Everyone that came to play SNES at my place would be impressed by Battleclash and often want to replay it.
    Unfortunately emulation just doesn't cut it. I miss my big ole Super Scope, it's been so long it makes me feel old.

    Great video! I highly recommend the arcade version of King of Dragons as well as it is multiplayer and also has a few extra details. Also, both Wild Guns and The Ninjawarriors have had modern remakes as Wild Guns Reloaded and The Ninja Saviors Return Of The Warriors which are basically upgraded from their original SNES versions.
    I'm not sure it is a hidden gem but I highly recommend *ActRaiser* on the SNES. It is a town-building sim combined with some hack 'n slash action thrown in and is a lot of fun!

  • @briandemodulated
    @briandemodulated 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great list! My hidden SNES gem is Battle Clash for the Super Scope. It's not ideal to play on a retro handheld but it's tons of fun (and pretty easy) with a computer mouse. It's a first-person rail shooter where you can pick huge bosses to pieces with your kablammo cannon. Great anime art and an endearingly pointless little story. A real coin-op feel.

  • @BandoidView

    The 16 bit era is so great for handheld retro gaming. The games are such high quality and they will run (with very few exceptions) on pretty much every handheld, even the first PocketGo. I don't have any hidden gems for SNES but if you ever do a TG16 video, try out Silent Debuggers. It's one of my absolute favorite 16-bit era games.

    My XU10 just arrived today. They held it captive at customs for eons. Or 3 weeks, but it definitely felt like eons. These TD series will definitely come in handy to pick my games, so I'm grateful for that. But not my nose, as video series are highly impractical for picking one's nose. Just games.

    My hidden SNES gem would have to be U.N. Squadron. The soundtrack is totally killer and the upgrades you can get for each aircraft are really cool. My friend and I used to play it for hours back in grade school. No SNES fans I talk to have ever seemed to even have heard of it. Fantastic game

      U.N. Squadron was big back in the day. My friends and I would play the arcade of it at a convenience store up the road. When they ported it to the SNES with improvements it was mind-blowing at the time. If you haven't found "SNES fans" that have not only heard of it but played it then they're not SNES fans.

    Snes is one of my favourite consoles, and I actually have a spreadsheet on google with all the games I have on my personal emulation HD, so I'll give you a few suggestions based on what I have:
    1- Beethoven the ultimate canine caper: simple platform game that I used to play when I was a kid
    2- The Hunt for Red October: submarine game
    3- Plok: action platform game with epic music(has a lot of silvagunner rips)
    4- Shin Kidou Senshi Gundam Wing: Endless Duel: it's a GUNDAM FIGHTING GAME
    5 -SOS: amazing game, just play it, it's really amazing how could they make such a great narrative game on that time about a sinking ship.
    EXTRA- The Firemen: top down firefighter game with good story

    2 great SNES hidden gems, UN Squadron, a side scrolling aerial combat game, lots of fun, and an old Enix RPG, Robotrek. Robotrek needs a retranslation and a re-release at some point, maybe some QOL improvements and some definite adjustments to the gameplay, combat is fine, think a super simplified South Park: the fractured but whole, but that’s its biggest problem, it is too simple, needs some more strategy to it. Still a lot of fun, silly fun.

    Great picks! Wild Guns is so good. Amazing gameplay mixed with some of the best presentation on the system.
    My favorite hidden gem on the SNES is Magical Pop'n. It's an action platformer where you play as a chibi style princess with a sword. Very charming art style, fun abilities to unlock, and pretty short. Harder than the cuteness would have you think but infinite continies helps. Japanese only release but there's a translation if you care to experience the barebones story. Definitely worth a playthrough.

    Apart from E.V.O., all these gems have a strong mame feel, which is good! But also E.V.O. is good: it's worth playing

    Pretty good list, TD!
    I always enjoyed E.V.O. because it reminds me of Odell Down Under on Windows 3.1 in computer lab in 5th grade! Haha.
    I also discovered Ghoul Patrol a couple weeks ago!

    A very good showcase about SNES games I didn't know about. 🙂
    In the last game I see the ferrett and deer enemies' sprite texture which are used in one level of Super Mario Bros fan game I really love to play every year.
    That fan game's title is Mushroom Kingdom Fusion. The game devs are making new versions every year, expanding with new levels (not just from Super Mario games, but from other video games as well).
    If you check out that fan game, you will also love it. 😀

    My favorite hidden gem is Secret of Mana. Hands down my favorite soundtrack on the SNES, besides Zelda: A Link To The Past. The entire Mana series is worth checking out, as this series is published by Square Enix, the developers of the Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and the Kingdom Hearts series. Square Enix is a powerhouse at making RPGs

    Ok I'll throw my hat into you challenge... how about The Fireman on the SNES. It's a great little shooter where you (surprise surprise) put out fires. It looks great and the gameplay is spot on.

    I remember playing _King of Dragons_ at the arcade back in the 90s. It was for up to four players, if I recall correctly (it could have been five). It was one of a few similar Capcom arcade beat 'em ups, a prominent one being _Knights of the Round._

    My favourite console! Just a great nostalgia trip all round. I’m STILL completing Link to the Past and Super Metroid, installed on my Steam Deck. I love playing SNES on the Steam Deck, just plays so well with the controls and that screen ❤. Will check out your games, thanks 🙏

      Oh and also SNES on your iPhone with Delta app (they now allow emulation) is pretty darn cool, you can install a skin that allows analogue sticks which plays great 👍

This channel got me to order the Anbernic RG35XX H and its videos like this that I think are awesome. I follow a lot of retro channels and gaming channels, but this channel is very cool. It’s funny, the informative videos are good and easy to follow and the suggestions are good too definitely earn my subscription

    It's interesting how close King of Dragons is to Tower of Doom/Shadow over Mystara that would come to the Arcade a few years later. If it wasn't that it predates those games by a a few years, I would swear it was just a demake or serials-filed-off home port of those games.
    Like you, I really wish I had known about it back in the day, because Tower of Doom and Shadow over Mystara are two of my favorite beat 'em ups of all time.

    Thanks for your hidden gems TechDweeb ; here's mine : Mister Nutz on the Super Nes (the superior version). A game with some flaws (hard with no saves nor passwords, thanks you emulation and saves states !), but the charm, atmosphere, music and graphics are top notch.
