I saw summon night Sworcraft story on the thumbnail Sworcraft story 2 is so much fun Haven't seen the video yet but shining soul 1 or 2 should be on here
Summon Night Swordcraft Story deserves a second lease on life via a rerelease on Switch. And I don't mean just slapping it on NSO and calling it a day, I mean an actual collection with love and care put into it along with the second and third game in the series. (Yes, there's a third one that was only released in Japan, an English version of that would be a huge selling point.)
The developers of the original Summon Night series (Flight-Plan) went bankrupt on 2010 unfortunately. Nowadays Bandai Namco owns the rights to the IP but after Summing Night 6 they just put it on the freezer :(
no, the third one is not as good as Swordcraft 1 and 2 (i literally learned japanese to play it) maglam lord is an okay game like Swordcraft 3, you need at least 4 months of japanese learning if you want to play the third one because they use easy grammar and vocabs, i don't recommend it though

Yesssssss Summon Night Swordcraft Story mentioned! I LOVED these games when I discovered them back in the day. Really wish that 3rd one also released in English.
I will never stop recommending the Boktai series, some of the most unique games on the console. The cartridges contain a mini light sensor that effects a number of mechanics in the games, like how fast the Gun del Sol, the main weapon the player character uses, charges, how much damage bosses take from the Piledriver, what enemies are fought in certain areas, and more. They also contain cowboys, Vampires, and an overarching Norse theming. What's not to love?
The problem with recommending that series is how inaccessible it is. The special hardware means it cannot be included in any virtual console release and cannot even be emulated which also means the price on the second hand market keeps going up. Those games go for hundreds of dollars on ebay. Edit: Come to find out mobile phone gba emulators can use the phone's sunlight sensor to emulate the sensor on the cartridge and most emulators have a button combo to artificially generate sunlight so you don't have to drop $200 for a copy of boktai 2.
Same, I’m not sure if it’s because I grew up with those games, or because that was just the greatest era of gaming. I’m leaning towards the latter though.
@Gary_P2 I 100% agree it's the latter camp. The games were complete and the ideas were novel. I'd much rather slap in Okami or hulk ultimate destruction over ANYTHING out right now
I'm an obscure games junkie so I'll try not to flex too hard here, but If you want another 10ish to do a part 2 for: Zoids Legacy (RPG, fun mechanics marred by a terrible translation, lots of series-fan service with characters from all 3 animes of the time), Boktai and Boktai II (Isometric action-rpgs with stealth elements not unlike Metal Gear Solid, including knocking on walls), Demi Kids Dark/Light version (Shin Megami Tensei monster collecting RPG) Dynasty Warriors Advance (Top down beat-em-up-ish game with fun art style), Konami Krazy Racers (Mario Kart, but Konami, predating Super Circuit), Rebelstar Tactical Command (Old PC X-com-like game made from some original X-com alumni), and lets end it with Zatch Bell Electric Arena (2d anime fighting game)
@@anasazmi8554 God I wish. But it'll never have the feeling of getting out into the sun without the light sensor. Would be so lovely though, wonder if they could manage with the Switch's brightness sensor.
Zoids Legacy and Demi Kids are some favorites of mine! I'd also add Monster Rancher Advance 2- There's plenty of references to 1 in the sequel, but everything important is explained for you. 2 has better graphics, gameplay, story, and minigames, so I'd call it the clear superior of the two.
@@chainsawplayin Gameboys across their various iterations, their strength was the lower hardware which allowed for long batter life. Even now, Switch came out underpowered compared to Playstation and Xbox yet I'd say the switch domianted both those consoles
I see Summon Night Swordcraft Story in a thumbnail, I must watch. I loved that game a ton as a kid. Admittedly I was introduced to it because a friend gave me the ROM and GBA emulator for it when I was a kid but still, true hidden gem. Shame I didn’t know about it to buy it in its lifetime.
One thing I've never heard of GBA referred to as or thought of as is underrated. I'm pretty sure everyone who grew up with one knows exactly how great it is.
I've been looking for Summon Nights for so many years. I played it when I was younger, and memories of it kept coming back, but I could never come up with the right search terms to find it. Glad I saw your video :)
So glad to see Lady Sia on the list! That's the #1 hidden gem in my book. I've talked to so many people about it, and none of them even knew it existed. So underrated!
Don't have time to watch full vid rn, but liked it already cause Summon Night is in the thumbnail. Genuinely the most underrated game ever, it's one of the best jrpgs I've ever played and deserved so much more
My go-to underrated/overlooked GBA games are the Densetsu no Stafy trilogy, which are unique aquatic platformers, and despite only releasing in Japan, don't require knowing the language in order to play all the way through, also, *Absolutely Fantastic* soundtrack on that first game. Iridion II, which might just be the best shmup on the entire GBA, and one of the most stunning audiovisual experiences on the entire GBA. Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichitto Live Start, the 2nd Mermaid Melody game on GBA, it's an uncommonly good handheld rhythm game for the time, with a full soundtrack worth of songs with full lyrics, something unheard of on a handheld game back then, plus a whole story mode, minigames, challenge modes, room customisation, and even writing your own lyrics for a couple songs to be sung by the mascot! Easily one of the best 'girls games' I've EVER played! (Still JP exclusive, but it's not that hard to wrap your head around) Donkey Kong Country 3, the GBA versions get a lot of flack for not being exactly like the SNES originals, but I think they're ALL pretty good versions with some legit advantages over the SNES originals, like saving anywhere, and more visibility, but for the 3rd game they not only NAILED the physics, but the graphics look nice and vibrant, not washed out like the first one, and they also got David Wise to compose a whole new Brilliant soundtrack just for it! The 3rd DKC game is underrated in general, but IMO, the GBA version is the definitive way to play through it. Also shout-outs to Konami Krazy Racers.
Not sure if underrated or anything, but I had a pleasant surprise learning that Game Freak have something other than Pokémon released on GBA: Drill Dozer is a lot of fun.
3:37 There is actually 2 games that does leverage that feature in Resident Evil Outbreak & Outbreak File 2. It's on the PS2 and it had online multiplayer back then.

CIMA the enemy is a really cool hidden gem action rpg on the gba. I had it bet never got far because I had other games like zelda, golden sun and megaman battle network and it started out kinda slow for my taste back then in high-school. But many years later I realized that it was much more than meets the eye while watching a playthrough of it. Edit: also another game that I never played but saw years later that looks really cool is called drill dozer.
I love Summon Nights: Swordcraft Story! Those games are amazing! I wish they would make new ones or at least put them on the GBA for the Switch. Shame we aren't gonna get Terranigma, but I can hope for this?
Summon Nights 1 and 2 are really good. If I remember right the 3rd on the DS and after really took a different direction in story and gameplay it was no longer the same as the first two of the series.
I don't know if it's underrated but DK: King of Swing is pretty good. And if you can get your hands on a copy, I recommend playing the first in the Rhythm Heaven series, the Japanese only Rhythm Tengoku. It's region free. Or the GBA version of Max Payne, or the super obscure The Pinball of the Dead. The Tomb Raider games are cool too.
3:35 It would all depend on the execution. Since people tend to hate time limits I could see it going over poorly. It could make for a cool Hard Mode or Speedrun mode though.
in the jackie chan game, that's part of the show, like it's another arc. those monsters are like shendu's buddies or something. i dunno, i don't remember exactly, but they're all related

Not sure if it’s underrated but I don’t hear anyone talk about Digimon Battle Spirit, it was a port of a Wonderswan game, it was really fun and the graphics were great. I think they cut a character or two for the GBA port which is a shame, can’t remember who it was, maybe Gatomon/Tailmon? Anyway good game, the sequel is good too but not as memorable.

Medabots metabee is the second game I finished in GBA. Pure nostalgia
One of those game I still have unfinished business with
Summon night 1 (GBA) 8/10
Summon night 2 (GBA) 500/10
Summon night2.5 (GBA but not translated) 7/10
Summon night 3 (NDS) 5/10
Summon night 4 and 5 (PSP) 3/10 between both games.
the series really peacked at the second game, and its so good. i always tough that not even pokemon came close to the summon nights of gba.
I remember downloading a rom of Summon Night: Swordcraft Story and instantly loving it, then the next week going to the mall on a field trip and finding a physical copy at Gamestop....
I still have that physical copy. Used my lunch money+saved money on it.
Hamtaro: Ham Ham Heartbreak. Fun little puzzles, good story, cute characters. Highly highly recommend. Recently replayed it and it holds up.
I actually remember playing Meta Bots. Good times
3:32 if i remember correctly Resident Evil did this with RE: Outbreak
I would also put the Klonoa games and Astro Boy: Omega Factor
I keep hearing good things about Klonoa. Are they really that good?
@@pharmcat8484 Klonoa is a legendary hidden gem to the point I don't think it's a hidden gem anymore.
