I agree. It was it's own system but like the Wii U I feel just putting "Color" on it missled parents to thinking it was the "GameBoy at home" but just color.
As someone who is about to pull the trigger on an RG35XX, this series has been awesome. I’ve been loading up my ROM sets in anticipation of getting the device, and this just adds more games to the list. Great video as always Dweeb!
Wow. "Shut up", huh? Seems a little harsh for this generation. I love the gbc. I'm happy to see you show it some love and give it the spotlight. I haven't heard of some of these
Good job! I am always so amazed with the lighting and camera work in your videos. It's actually an inspiration for mine. Well it's an inspiration that I need to work on mine. Also like that narrowed it down to five games, very efficient, and yet really entertaining. Awesome job. I like how you cut between the graphics on the console and the game capture
Thanks for noticing! It's not the kind of thing most people notice, but I think it's an important part of keeping the content engaging. For the broll and filming stuff I think you really gotta be into it. I love doing that, I used to do that sorta stuff just as a hobby (ie didn't do anything with it or show it to anyone) before I started my channel, so I'm glad I found an outlet for it. I have like 15-20 games I wanted to show, and there was no way to do them justice in a single video without showing each for like 30s. I think 2 min per game, with a few minutes of jokes, for a 12-15 min video is a perfect formula for hidden gems content.
Cannon fodder looks really good for a gameboy game. Theres alot of cool and good simple games that are pretty good, it’s crazy how creative they got with the gameboy, the limitations and power of the gameboy just made people think what they could do with what they had more, that was peoples competition, their imagination. Now it’s just money people compete over, like we aren’t even people anymore.
I didn't even know there was a Spy vs. Spy on GBC. I loved the comic strips as a kid and the NES game was a fun adaptation. Gonna check that one out. I didn't have a GBC as a kid so I skipped over a lot of good stuff it seemed. Always on the look out for diamonds in the rough. Keep the gems coming!
I know that it's not a whole lot more than a souped up version of the original Gameboy, but a big part of me really wishes it had gotten to exist independently of the original GB and the GBA as Nintendo's primary handheld on the market. The games that were developed specifically for the GBC have such a unique, distinctive look to them that doesn't really exist anywhere else, and it would have been interesting to see what developers brought to the system if it had a longer lifespan, maybe if it had been released a few years earlier than it was, say '95 or '96.
Great work, TD... Cranmoot@work, just got back from a long lake weekend. Saw you released a hidden gem video, and immediately clicked. The hidden gem videos on your channel are always surprising, I appreciate that. Like you said most Hidden gems lists are basically the same list. So double diet golden root beer to you for really digging into these and finding games worthy of creating content for. Thanks, TD see you on the next one.
Thanks bud! Plus there's the whole "one dweeb's trash is another dweeb's treasure", just because one guy didn't think Scooby Doo was worth adding to his list doesn't mean nuthin'!
I love this series! I get stuck between the handful of titles I know and love and have played many times, and the infinite vastness of rom libraries. There are loads of 'top 100 best games' articles, but you're featuring content I would likely NEVER encounter on my own
It's on some lists but if you haven't tried it, harry potter and the sorcerer's stone on gbc is a little turn based rpg with great art, music, and seems to have some serious gameplay depth.
I love these videos! I don’t have a big rom library on my Systems, i just put the games i really want to play on there. And it is always great to ad new ones. :3
Warlock is a criminaly underrated game on the GBC. A very good RTS taking in consideration is an RTS on the GBC. Truly a Hidden Gem. It even has 2 Campings. Quest For Camelot is another Hidden Gem in my opinion.
Thanks for this video, Tech dweeb, how cool an idea. As a non english native speaker, i put the caption ON to note your suggestions. ’Canada father' (02:35) seems an interesting port, a shame the scrapper in Daijisho can't find the artwork 😂
I find it really amazing that games like that existed and people never got the chance to play because it wasnt "famous enough". I had a gbc with 3-5 game cartridges and outside of the mainstream stuff (pokemon, shantae) I really enjoyed playing harry potter 1 and mgs ghost babel, in fact the Harry potter RPGS are really good, the one that I own even had multilanguage support, I never thought I could play a game in my own language (brazilian portuguese) at that time. Great video series, keep em coming, cause I love dweeb approved stuff.
Hell yeah, new hidden gems! I stumbled upon Cannon Fodder when idly browsing my rom collection. I ended up playing it the whole night. Really fun gameplay loop!
I have a highly curated collection -- which took me years to fully vet -- for most of the popular systems. I've looked at countless lists for "best of", "top 100", "hidden gems", other curated ROMsets, etc., for each system. I'm at the point where if a TH-camr releases a new hidden gems video, it's extremely rare that a game isn't on my list. That being said, I didn't have most of these in my collection, so thanks for the heads up!
I have spent countless hours in last 2 years on doing exactly same. Constantly looking for top games and hidden gems for my retro consoles. I would really be interested in browsing thru your lists, it would save me a lot of time :) Would you be so kind and provide me one?
So many of these bring back memories. For me Spy Vs Spy was my go to game on the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64 8-bit microcomputers. Cannon Fodder and it's sequel were perfect on the Amiga especially since the mouse gave you perfect precision (perfect as you could get for a rollerball mouse 😂). Definitely going to try these GBC ports. Thanks buddy.
I had the Scooby doo game as a kid! but never got to complete it! seeing the opening shots was an astonishing tickle to my brain cause I had almost all but forgotten about it. definitely booting it up now. thanks!
You should definitely do more of these hidden gems especially with all these emulation handheld devices that are around its hard to find a good game with thousands of games on these machines 🙏🏽
Please public you list of hand-picked games! So the community can make compilations like Tiny Best Set including it :D Awesome job tho, I love your recommendations and your passion when talking about it
No I like to keep them all. I delete any duplicates, or non-english games, or protoypes or demos, but I keep all the full releases (I often have need to go back to games that I don't like for various reasons). However I always keep a list of my favourites, which I organize so they are at the top of my games list. Once I've done a thorough evaluation of all the games of a system and have my favourites I rarely deviate from them.
Love to see Scooby Doo get love here, I had this game when I was a kid (obviously parents bought it based on the lisence). Loved it but one of those games no one knew so I didn’t get to share it with others.
Double like & comment for the TD... Apreciate you bringing these obscure titles to light... this is definetely 'cool stuff I didn't know about' well actually about 50% I didn't know about.... Great work keep these coming. TD is the MAN... Also like the way you ask for subs, so refreshing to get a creative sub now plug👍Spy vs Spy... dam I had that on my C64, A long time ago... in a galaxy far far away...

I also own Warlocked and I agree that it's another underrated game which is basically Warcraft on a GBC which is nothing short of amazing. Let's also not forget that the GBC has some awesome Megaman X based games. I just picked up MegaMan Extreme 2 last Saturday and you can play as both X and Zero, which for the time was refreshing for the handheld. Prince of Persia is actually a quite competent port of the PC Original. I was pretty amazed by game play and graphics as it didn't seem like a far stretch given the fact that it's running on a portable for it's time. Of course, we can't talk about the GBC without mentioning it's great NES ports. In addition to Spy vs. Spy, I would also add Shadowgate and Crystalis to that mix. In comparison to the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance, the Game Boy Color in itself seems a bit short lived but anyone willing to give it's games a chance, they will find some very interesting games that push the hardware in ways you wouldn't think of. Just have a look at Alone in the Dark: A New Nightmare. That game is mind-blowing for what it is running on. Great video! I look forward to the next hidden gems piece you work on.
I had the Original spy vs spy which was written for the commodore 64 when it was first released in 1984, I also had it on the Atari 2600 when it was shortly released after the commodore 64 initial release. Used to play that non stop for hours everyday. Another game like Spy vs Spy was Impossible Mission by Epyx back in 1984, It looks different but feels the same, it also has voices in the game which made it very cool.
It's on my list of games to show in future videos! I didn't show it on this list because that's one of those games that's always on "hidden gems" lists, but eventually I'll find a way to show it off. I didn't know about it until recently and I'm looking forward to playing it more.
@@TechDweeb it started showing up on hidden gems lists when I started talking about it. Love such a well made game. Also bionic commando for the GBC is pretty good.
Nice. Personally, I love games from Game Boy Advance, DS and PSX. By the way, I'm curious if anyone, like me, likes games similar to PSX games. I've also been really into Silent Hill-style games lately.
Tobu Tobu Girl Deluxe gets my vote for GBC hidden gem that everyone should have on their retro handheld of choice. Also don't forget about the wonderful DX mods that have been rolling in lately! Dr. Mario DX, Kirby's Dream Land 2 DX, Kirby's Pinball Land DX,Super Mario Land DX, Super Mario Land 2 DX, Mega Man World 5 DX, Metroid 2 DX, Revenge of the 'Gator Gold, and probably more!
Dunno if it's a hidden gem, but Donald Duck: Goin' Quackers, also known as Donald Duck: Quack Attack in Europe is a good 2D platformer. It's made by the same devs that made Rayman GBC at Ubisoft, and it shows - the game gets progressively more challenging, but the level design is quite good, and the visuals are nice. One of the better licensed games for a handheld.
i've always preferred the style of the gbc cannon fodder over the original or other ports. just wish the grenade/ weapon swap mechanics were better implemented as the snow stages can get really frustrating. other gbc gems: bomberman games (all of them!) baby felix: halloween - cute colorful platformer elevator action ex - updated (and favorite) port including new playable characters and stages karate joe - nice kung-fu master clone monster rancher explorer - superior version of solomon's key but with monster rancher characters mr. driller - addictive puzzler ms. pac-man: special color edition - this version includes 2 new mazes. theres also super pac-man q*bert - while not as epic as the game boy port theres basically a vibrant colorized version snoopy tennis - best 2d tennis game super robot pinball - hands down the best pinball video game next to revenge of the 'gator
When i was a kid cannon fodder and lemmings were massively popular, possibly more so than mario and sonic because they were on home pcs like the amiga and I'm from australia 😊
Hey, so i heard u say that u like to get cups from thrift stores? I have this guy as a friend on instagram that goes to thrift stores everyday with a lead checker pen to see if the cups have lead in them to take them home and break them. If you were serious about buying cups from thrift stores i would get a marker that checks if they have lead. Especially if your going to be drinking out of them. all he uses is that marker and a handheld blacklight. If it has lead it will glow a certain color.
@TechDweeb I'm sorry to tell you this but almost all vintage glassware contains lead because it was used in the manufacturing process to make glass more brilliant and easier to work with. All the cups that guy buys to break are glass. They all contained lead.
I just tried the harry potter and the sorcerer's stone for the gbc and holy crap im gonna beat it. A little turn based rpg with amazing pixel art, great music, and looks like a lot of depth to the gameplay. Its going on my 35xx and will be my bedtime game until i beat it. I tried native and stretch and it also looks good in stretch on the 35xx Only thing of note is it requires the gearboy core, it has borked audio in gambette. I just swapped the 35xx configure file to run all my gbc games on gearboy and its been perfect
Whoa that Scooby-Doo looked pretty cool, It’s almost like a budget maniac mansion.
"Galaxy Wars. That's obviously Star Trek."

The Gameboy Color always seems to get forgotten.

Always looking for more games to add to the favorites on my anblernic
Hey, so i heard u say that u like to get cups from thrift stores? I have this guy as a friend on instagram that goes to thrift stores everyday with a lead checker pen to see if the cups have lead in them to take them home and break them. If you were serious about buying cups from thrift stores i would get a marker that checks if they have lead. Especially if your going to be drinking out of them. all he uses is that marker and a handheld blacklight. If it has lead it will glow a certain color.
The cups we buy are all glass, so I think we're good.
@TechDweeb I'm sorry to tell you this but almost all vintage glassware contains lead because it was used in the manufacturing process to make glass more brilliant and easier to work with. All the cups that guy buys to break are glass. They all contained lead.
can you do a best of retro gaming pinball? Pokemon RS pinball ftw!
Scooby doo on GBA is one of my favorites, Looks like the newer version of this one.
I just tried the harry potter and the sorcerer's stone for the gbc and holy crap im gonna beat it. A little turn based rpg with amazing pixel art, great music, and looks like a lot of depth to the gameplay. Its going on my 35xx and will be my bedtime game until i beat it. I tried native and stretch and it also looks good in stretch on the 35xx
Only thing of note is it requires the gearboy core, it has borked audio in gambette. I just swapped the 35xx configure file to run all my gbc games on gearboy and its been perfect
More gba,gbc hidden gems please. Snes too if you can. Thanks tech dweeb❤❤❤
Htf did I not know they made a Scooby Doo game and went full Maniac Mansion? 🤦🏻♂️😂
Barbie, huh. Hollywood Pinball is good. But I like the GBC pinball games with rumble: Pokémon Pinball, Little Mermaid II Pinball, 3-D Ultra Pinball
lol this reminds me or me... once i was doing this show of something and i said "sit back relax and shut up"
