My favorite hidden gem is Tech Dweeb. He's not as hidden as he was when I first discovered him, and the recent growth of the channel is great to see. Especially with those glorious hands!!! Keep doing your thing Mr. Dweeb. You're awesome, and your success as a channel is definitely well deserved in my opinion. My favorite SNES game isn't so hidden, but it's TMNT Turtles in Time. I still replay it several times a year, and I've done so since it was first released, and I'll continue to do so until I physically can't play games anymore. Thanks dude!!!
Great list, Dweeb! May I also recommend Metal Warriors. Why is it cool? It's got different mechs you can pilot. You can jump out of your mech and fight on foot, which makes it Titanfall almost twenty years before Titanfall was Titanfall. It's got one of the coolest SNES intros ever. And it's named METAL WARRIORS!
Shut up
Yes! Metal Warriors has been a favorite SNES game since I had it as a kid.
....The Ninja Warriors
...I just bought for my ps4
..but it's called
Ninja Saviors
.Same game though .
IM LITERALLY PLAYING METAL WARRIORS RIGHT NOW!!
Solid suggestion!
“Beat them ups.” I love this guy’s subtle humor
Playing with your girlfriend's boyfriend was good too
@@samnite3 yeah that was hilarious lol
My favourite is when, during a handheld device review, it talks to him. At the end of the interaction it says "you should start a fire..." It's funny on multiple levels. So glad I stumbled across this channel.
Not sure it was intended as humor
@chrisd6287 "1 hours long" in same review - yeah, I think it's humour, mate.
"Your girlfriend's boyfriend" 😂
My favourite hidden gem is King Arthur's World. It's a 2D RTS with knights and wizards and monsters. Fantastic music too!
Love this guy being inclusive to the polyam peeps
Agree, and it has retroachievements now too!
Omg Evo sounds so cool? I'm SO excited to try Ghoul Patrol, I love Zombies Ate My Neighbors. King of Dragons sounds like a fun game to play with the kid, too. Thanks for this video, Dweeb. These hidden gems ones are my favorite of yours.
Evo is a blast!
You'd love EVO!
I second that 💯
These gems are more than just great games. They are prime examples of when game design was developing into its own art form, and unapologetically, at that. Take a look at the character select screen from Wild Guns (5:59) ... don't those two look great? All that gorgeousness just to decide which murderer you wanted to be. Thank you for sharing, T.Dweeb.
Well said
I'm SO happy you covered E.V.O. Search For Eden!!!! this was my FAVORITE childhood SNES game! I recently went back to my parent's house to retrieve the cart for it but my brother sold it to a local store without knowing its worth 😢. and now it's WAY too expensive to buy back. safe to say I was gutted by learning this. luckily I still have a ROM of it and can still get my fix. but man, so many hours were spent playing that amazing game. getting to the final level and becoming a dragon was my favorite.
Fantastic list! Thanks for taking the time to pitch them, I really think it makes a big difference. Keep up the great work!
Big like for EVO! It’s on my Steam Deck right now and it’s a regular rotation!
SNES is probably my fav system along with PS1, so looking forward to games I’ve missed! Thanks Tech Dweeb!
Glad you mentioned E.V.O. I love that game. I don't know if it's a hidden gem and I know it's also on the Megadrive. But more people should know about Uncharted Waters: New Horizons.
I know it is not really a hidden gem anymore but when i found the English patch for terranigma as a kid i thought it was the greatest game ever. It was a pretty major feat to even get a snes emulator up and running back then so than having the extra street cred of having a unreleased in the us arpg running on you ibm think pad we legendary with a certain crowd. Normal people would just ask if you had mario 3 or pokemon on that thing. Also Shiren the Wanderer Mystery Dungeon 2 was a pretty major find in my life and is probably the root of my love for roguelikes. The ds version has all but replaced the snes version but the memories remain.
Good morning TD! Thanks for doing the game-suggestion videos. Having a tool is one thing. Knowing what to do with it is another thing entirely. You are doing good work 😀.
I see a TechDweeb video, I like. Love your hidden gems series, thanks for sharing!
PS: oh, another hidden gem for me is Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow. Platformer about Donald duck as a ninja and also a bug based pistol. Crazy, but the anumation is pretty impressive and the gameplay is fun for sure.
Cool, I'll check it out!
Wild Guns was pretty well known back in the day. Super polished, great graphics and unique world design. Definitely challenging, and I loved the western-mech theme!
so many people have done videos on Ninja Warriors & Wild Guns, how on earth is it hidden???
The King of Dragons?! Brother, that game looks freaking amazing! Now I have something to play over Memorial Day weekend!
I never knew about Wild Guns, it looks real good so i will check it out on my Miyoo Mini Plus, by the way, i love your hidden gems you find in these retro systems. They were really fun!
Love this sort of thing. As a retro gamer, I've found out about so many fun games through retro listicle vids.
I still have my og King of Dragons from when I was little, glad to see it get some love!
Blackthorne isn't talked about enough! I played it when I was a kid, I spent most of my adult life searching for it. I didn't get into it again until I started emulation, last year.
My SNES hidden gem recommendation is one that got a fan translation patch: The Violinist of Hameln (Hameln no Violin Hiki). It's sort of a puzzle platformer. You play as an adventurer whose violin is his weapon, and he has a girl sidekick who you command by telling her to stay or follow, by throwing her, or by having her wear various costumes that give her different abilities. It's silly in the best way, and absolutely worth checking out!
I knew of all of your recommendations this time, but I still loved the video! A couple of these are among the Natsume games that got recent enhanced remasters on Steam (The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Ninja Warriors, Wild Guns Reloaded, Pocky & Rocky Reshrined), which you should definitely grab if you don't have on Steam or Switch.
I also want to mention that the RG35XX+ recently got a new version of muOS which greatly improved performance and compatibility, including more playable portmaster ports! I've got AM2R, Annalynn, Bot Vice, Murtop, Shovel Knight Treasure Trove, Sonic Mania, and TMNT Shredder's Revenge on mine! (I recommend those specifically for this device. There are a number of great portmaster games that I'm not recommending because they need just a bit more power or screen size than the RG35XX+ can provide, such as Runner2, Balatro, and Boneraiser Minions.)
Love your channel. Glad I found it!
Yes please keep doing these videos about games. Super useful, not just for emulation but also seeing what I want to find physically from ebay or retro stores...if I can get a good deal, that is.
Thanks for your videos. There are often secrets for me. Great job!
Thank you TechDweeb! I love your "hidden gems" videos, but with that one you brought childhood memories and solved my long searching for a mysterious arcade machine game in a coffee shop in a hotel where my family used to go on a vacation...the King of Dragons! I did not remember the name of it, but when i saw in the video I recognized it immediately! Thank you a lot! And thanks for the great and fun content!
Nice! I had that happen to me recently myself. Nice to put those demons to rest haha
Great list, thanks!
Great video, I'm adding EVO to my list! I was trying to find something new to play on SNES recently and ended up trying out Brain Lord, which I admittedly got because the dumb name cracked me up. It's an action RPG from Enix that I didn't expect much from, but I haven't stopped playing it the last few days.
I really enjoyed this list and immediately subscribed. Always love to see a retro gaming enthusiast who's positive towards emulation! Keep it up!
Nice to hear! Welcome!
Bart's Nightmare is one of my personal favorites. Lots of gameplay variety, great soundtrack, and it was a Christmas present for me back in the day.
Wild Arms also got a remake by the same team that did the Ninja Saviors remake. Every game they touch is gold.
EVO is one of my favorites! After renting it tons of times, I bought it. Played through so many times over the years. It's one of the first games I load on a new emulator/frontend/device setup to test.
Kunoichi is commonly used for 'female ninja' in Japanese (technically it's more like the less dominant one in a relationship, but is also a play on the written character for 'woman'). So Ninja and Kunoichi are appropriate names in The Ninja Warriors
Good to know!
Great vídeo, that wild guns game brought me good nostalgia! ✌🏼🤓🎮
The Ninja Warriors has been an absolute favorite of mine since I played it in 25 years ago on my old PC, and my opinion on its only grown as time has gone on. Absolutely amazing. I love spamming the attack where you jump off a bad guy onto another bad guy. It's one of those games I like playing on my MiSTer/CRT for that low latency experience.
WOW I played ghoul patrol as a pirated pc port over 20 years ago and thought I would never figure out what that game was!! thank you! Just got a retro handheld, can't wait to re-live all the old games we played in the developing world that we didn't know were snes ports :) THANKS
Great video! I highly recommend the arcade version of King of Dragons as well as it is multiplayer and also has a few extra details. Also, both Wild Guns and The Ninjawarriors have had modern remakes as Wild Guns Reloaded and The Ninja Saviors Return Of The Warriors which are basically upgraded from their original SNES versions.
I'm not sure it is a hidden gem but I highly recommend *ActRaiser* on the SNES. It is a town-building sim combined with some hack 'n slash action thrown in and is a lot of fun!
Great video man, now I have to check out the rest of your hidden gems list.
Yessss! My favorite kind of TechDweeb video!!
My XU10 just arrived today. They held it captive at customs for eons. Or 3 weeks, but it definitely felt like eons. These TD series will definitely come in handy to pick my games, so I'm grateful for that. But not my nose, as video series are highly impractical for picking one's nose. Just games.
Wow that's rough! Glad you got your toy :D
I recently discovered your channel and have binged quite a few episodes. You have such a sick aesthetic going on with everything you do, I really love your style.
Thanks for saying so!
Love your content and entire channel. Steam/PC Ninja warriors is great and a ‘hoot’! Good call. The feel and overall old school gameplay makes it a keeper AGREED! Sweet pixel animation goodness!
I’d never heard of any of these - thank you so much!
Beat Them Ups both triggers me and fills me with joy in equal measure. Never change.
EVO!! I was convinced I was the only one that knew about it! Such a great game
Pretty good list, TD!
I always enjoyed E.V.O. because it reminds me of Odell Down Under on Windows 3.1 in computer lab in 5th grade! Haha.
I also discovered Ghoul Patrol a couple weeks ago!
Zombies Ate My Neighbors has a sequel! 🧟♂
Yes and you can get the first and second in a HD Remastered version
Great list! My hidden SNES gem is Battle Clash for the Super Scope. It's not ideal to play on a retro handheld but it's tons of fun (and pretty easy) with a computer mouse. It's a first-person rail shooter where you can pick huge bosses to pieces with your kablammo cannon. Great anime art and an endearingly pointless little story. A real coin-op feel.
I love E.V.O, will try out the rest soon. Thanks Dweeb
I love seeing King of Dragons consistently make lists like this. I was lucky enough to have it as a kid, and never knew anyone else that had it.
I always love your videos! Ome of my favorites is Battle Pinball. It has a table for Ultraman, Ken Rider, Gundam, and Bandai's hero (underwater table in this one).
Wow, I haven't heard of any of these and they all look fantastic! Great video format and production, you have a new subscriber!
Thanks buddy! Welcome!
Ghoul Patrol!, I used to play that one with my cousin when we were kids, nice to see it here. And The KIng of Dragons is a fantastic game, I've beaten the arcade version, the snes port is really hard, maybe I'll give it another try. Great video as always!
love the video and all of your content tbh. I am gonna play all of these game I am particualry interested in ghoul patrol
this is so cool i was kinda getting bored with retro gaming but now i'm exited to try E.V.O
Excellent video! My backlog hates you... lol Now Im waiting for the part two video where you cover the other 95 games on your list, rapid fire ! 🤘
I remember playing _King of Dragons_ at the arcade back in the 90s. It was for up to four players, if I recall correctly (it could have been five). It was one of a few similar Capcom arcade beat 'em ups, a prominent one being _Knights of the Round._
Great Video TechDweeb! It's been a while since I been on youtube and jeez you grew twice as much on here! Keep it up yo!
Welcome back!
Wild Guns is very popular, got a "reloaded" physical re-release recently.
Great picks, all Natsume games are a blast
Great list! Mine would have to include Rock N Roll Racing! Awesome game that fell under the radar. Great gameplay and Awesome music!
The SNES was so good. So many good licenced games as well like True Lies, Goof Troup, Aladdin, Jurassic Park. Lufia 2 takes the cake for an actual hidden gem.
Wild Guns is a truly a gem, but not a hidden one! proof of that is the 2010 remaster "Wild Guns Reloaded" from the original creators Natsume.
My favourite console! Just a great nostalgia trip all round. I’m STILL completing Link to the Past and Super Metroid, installed on my Steam Deck. I love playing SNES on the Steam Deck, just plays so well with the controls and that screen ❤. Will check out your games, thanks 🙏
Oh and also SNES on your iPhone with Delta app (they now allow emulation) is pretty darn cool, you can install a skin that allows analogue sticks which plays great 👍
Thx dweeb love my Rg35xx+ ...great list..I hope u keep doing content til ur in golden years...
That's the plan!
Random comment here. I’m a new viewer of the channel and have already subscribed and watched a ton of videos. This channel got me to order the Anbernic RG35XX H and its videos like this that I think are awesome. I follow a lot of retro channels and gaming channels, but this channel is very cool. It’s funny, the informative videos are good and easy to follow and the suggestions are good too definitely earn my subscription
Thanks for the words of encouragement!
Goooood Mornin’ Mr. Dweeb!
Mornin'!
Thank you, TechDweeb!
Love this series!
Good video. I really like the game Rocky Rodent! I never hear anyone talk about it and it has a cool mechanic where he changes haircuts as powerups
Looks cool! I'll try it out
These are becoming my favorite videos you do! :D
I loved evo! Was one of those random picks id never heard of before.
My favorite SNES game is Uniracers, a super interesting take on racing games that feels kind of like a predecessor to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater or SSX. I'm not sure if it qualifies as a hidden gem, but it doesn't seem to be super widely known, so check it out if you haven't already.
this is a better choice since most people who grew up with snes know all the games he mentioned
Right when I thought I was running out of SNES titles to play, tech dweeb came through !
E.V.O. was awesome! Nice to see it get some love.
Evo is a great hidden gem. Excellent addition.
Great picks! Wild Guns is so good. Amazing gameplay mixed with some of the best presentation on the system.
My favorite hidden gem on the SNES is Magical Pop'n. It's an action platformer where you play as a chibi style princess with a sword. Very charming art style, fun abilities to unlock, and pretty short. Harder than the cuteness would have you think but infinite continies helps. Japanese only release but there's a translation if you care to experience the barebones story. Definitely worth a playthrough.
Yup that one is on my list of games I found! It's so cute. Love the animation!
Ooh Botvice is one of my most played games on the Switch so I will try Wild Guns for sure. Strikey Sisters and Super Star Path from the Botvice devs are also great games btw.
Ok I'll throw my hat into you challenge... how about The Fireman on the SNES. It's a great little shooter where you (surprise surprise) put out fires. It looks great and the gameplay is spot on.
I'll check it out!
Good Job on the list and Video! When I was in College I had a friend who would just be playing E.V.O all the time lol, he really loved the game and that's how I was exposed to it.
STAR FOX is my favourite👍
The 16 bit era is so great for handheld retro gaming. The games are such high quality and they will run (with very few exceptions) on pretty much every handheld, even the first PocketGo. I don't have any hidden gems for SNES but if you ever do a TG16 video, try out Silent Debuggers. It's one of my absolute favorite 16-bit era games.
A very good showcase about SNES games I didn't know about. 🙂
In the last game I see the ferrett and deer enemies' sprite texture which are used in one level of Super Mario Bros fan game I really love to play every year.
That fan game's title is Mushroom Kingdom Fusion. The game devs are making new versions every year, expanding with new levels (not just from Super Mario games, but from other video games as well).
If you check out that fan game, you will also love it. 😀
I was a huge fan of Zombies Ate My Neighbors. I honestly didn't hear about Ghoul Patrol till a few years ago when they released a combo of the two games on the Nintendego-go Snitch.
I like that you have chosen qaulity before quantity. Very much appreciated.
Let's go! The device you picked is my daily driver! I'm still waiting on that new steam deck video you talked about though😉
Snes is one of my favourite consoles, and I actually have a spreadsheet on google with all the games I have on my personal emulation HD, so I'll give you a few suggestions based on what I have:
1- Beethoven the ultimate canine caper: simple platform game that I used to play when I was a kid
2- The Hunt for Red October: submarine game
3- Plok: action platform game with epic music(has a lot of silvagunner rips)
4- Shin Kidou Senshi Gundam Wing: Endless Duel: it's a GUNDAM FIGHTING GAME
5 -SOS: amazing game, just play it, it's really amazing how could they make such a great narrative game on that time about a sinking ship.
EXTRA- The Firemen: top down firefighter game with good story
That could be a great series to show hiddeen gems
SNES is easily one of the absolute best system we have. EVER.
EVO looks really interesting, thanks TechDweeb! "Sips coffee"
The opening theme of EVO is absolutely stunning.
I love ALL the hidden gem videos you do. Will watch every time my dude 🙏🏼🤙🏼🍓
Thanks buddy. More to come!
Wild Guns is on Steam too. Really underrated.
Thanks for your hidden gems TechDweeb ; here's mine : Mister Nutz on the Super Nes (the superior version). A game with some flaws (hard with no saves nor passwords, thanks you emulation and saves states !), but the charm, atmosphere, music and graphics are top notch.
Oh now I want a Snesdrunk colaboration. Let's make it happen techdweeb .
I 2nd this idea.
I love both channels
I would buckle under the weight of SNES Drunk's encyclopedic knowledge of SNES games! 😳
@TechDweeb no pressure man. You're doing great content. Just throwing that out there.
Battleclash is probably one of my favorite "hidden gems".
I think it's more an issue that nobody I knew had a Super Scope for their SNES as they weren't common.
Everyone that came to play SNES at my place would be impressed by Battleclash and often want to replay it.
Unfortunately emulation just doesn't cut it. I miss my big ole Super Scope, it's been so long it makes me feel old.
Haha I remember that one! My buddy had the super scope. I have a fond memory of jumping around his living room and standing on the couch pretending to be action heroes playing that game :D
It's interesting how close King of Dragons is to Tower of Doom/Shadow over Mystara that would come to the Arcade a few years later. If it wasn't that it predates those games by a a few years, I would swear it was just a demake or serials-filed-off home port of those games.
Like you, I really wish I had known about it back in the day, because Tower of Doom and Shadow over Mystara are two of my favorite beat 'em ups of all time.
I felt the same way! I'm just happy to find another game with a similar genre and setting to a game I love :D
i love E.V.O. Search for Eden, it was my favorite game for LOOOONG time when i was a kid
What video filter for snes do you prefer on miyoo mini? Doesn't look like you integer scale them.
As always cool, funny and informative (above all) video. Thx TB
Pixellate shader
Everyone wrongly thinks the Miyoo A30 can’t play SNES so I’m going to test these out. Please keep doing these videos cause I find so many great games through them!
Dude Ninja Warriors has been my jam since it's release. The coolest soundtrack, the dopest dystopian future setting, incredible play style, it just rules! So stoked you've enjoyed it.
It's on ps4 too
It's called Ninja Saviors
It's held up so well. Plays like a modern game!
Thanks for the list, dork 😊
