  • Hey guys. Today's video is a bit different because this is especially for anyone who can only use one hand to do their hair routine. I want to just reiterate that this is not for the sake of a fun washday challenge but hopefully to assist anyone who needs it. This video was inspired by my follower Julie, I really hope you find the video useful!! Please feel free to share with anyone you think might find it helpful.

So I’ve had a paralyzed right arm for 30 years. Great video! I put bottles between my thighs and squeeze product out. To put a bonnet or shower cap on, I bite the edge with my teeth, do a slight half twist in the middle of my hair, place as much hair as possible in it and then drag the cap over my head, still biting. Let go with teeth and tuck any stray hair up and pull bonnet up where it should be. I do something similar w/o the half twist for the dryer bonnet. But I do find it easier to be in a Buff at night. I use a Twistie Turbie to plop. I use my mouth as an extra hand for a lot. The one thing I have a very hard time doing is curl defining with a brush. It’s almost impossible. I’m happy to answer any questions anyone might have. I have waist long 2c-3A fine wavy curls.

I just LOVE your videos Marissa! So down to earth like we are and packed full with super useful tips and tricks... so glad you mentioned scrunching our the cast early -it’s been a saviour for me as diffusing without touching my hair just makes my curls all wonky and stringy! Thank you for being so thoughtful and sharing your knowledge with us 💜 Priscilla

I have had three cast on my arms in my life! Yep, it is totally different trying to do things one-handed. Of course, your hair still looked great!

I broke both wrists at the same time years ago Multiple surgeries since, so lots of one handed things. I used my thighs to hold/open things. In the shower I would put product on my thigh and transfer with one hand when necessary. Hopefully, no more surgeries. 🤞🏻

I have EDS, and whilst I can often use both hands, other times I can’t. The scalp scrubbers are brilliant. The handle on it fits really well between my fingers and makes it a lot less painful on my hands. Also, due to the shape of it (having a slight dome), it means my fingers are less likely to dislocate.
I don’t know if this will help anyone or not but I thought I’d share just in case.. another thing that helps when my hands are weak or painful, I use both hands to squeeze the shampoo/conditioner out, and squeeze it onto another part of my body and scoop it up with my hands from there. Sometimes I use my thigh, but if bending is particularly painful that day, then I lean back a little and squeeze it onto my chest and scoop it up from there.
This is such a helpful video. Squeezing styling products into a bowl is such a good idea which I will definitely be using on days when I can only use one hand. Thank you for thinking of those of us with different abilities ❤️

@@MarisasCurls It’s definitely useful! I wish more youtubers did videos like this to be honest as sometimes I watch videos and think “yeah.. I’ll never be able to do that”. We all find our own ways of doing things, but seeing/hearing tips from others can really help if it’s something we haven’t thought of doing ourselves. So thank you ❤️
The best advice I’ve ever had is “if you don’t physically or mentally feel up to doing something, then don’t. Just do it another day.” It’s so simple but sometimes we all need reminding that sometimes, self care is doing nothing. To be honest, I’ve applied this to washing my hair in particular (it takes a lot of energy and causes a lot of pain). I leave it longer between washes because of this and honestly, my hair has thanked me for it 🥰

I also like to break the cast early. I’ve tried it a few ways. One is in the smasters technique by spraying some Gelebration from Jessicurl in my hands and scrunching or scrunching with the wet parts of the shirt or towel I used earlier. Then I continue with diffusing a little more. In the air drying phase I have been known to break the cast earlier as well.

I had shoulder surgery January 4th, 2021 so I've been with one hand use since. I can use my right hand to hold things but my left hand does all the work. I use a brush to distribute all my products evenly then I just scrunch after they're applied. I've been doing mostly hover diffusing til my hair is about 50% dry then just air drying.

Great video as always Marisa! Can I just ask you something,I have 2b/2c type of waves. I basically have the same routine as you, I use a leave-in or cream (not both) and a gel. The only difference is,I also remove some of the water, then add my leave-in,BUT I comb it though before starting the scrunching, there is still enough water in at this point to get clumps and I hear the squishy sound. Then I scrunch in my gel. Do you think combing through my leave-in is bad or takes away some of my curl? Thanks so much!🌹

I have the use of both arms but I have fibromyalgia and often my arms and hands can feel weak so I can’t do as well with the scrubbing, think I need to get one of the scalp scrubs to help me! X

I just did exactly what is shown in the video. So added water and squished. Then kept adding more handfuls of water and squished them in. The more handfuls of water you add the more of the conditioner will be rinsed. I rinsed maybe 80-90% of the conditioner out
