      I wasn't happy with the hair stylist blowing out my wavy hair straight, even when I asked her to diffuse it, and then using the curling iron and watching the style fall out when I left the shop. So I started doing it myself. I used gel & set my hair using toilet paper tubes that I cut up. Yes, LOL I need something sturdier than that, but after removal I worked my hands thru my hair & it looked so pretty! I have volume I didn't have before and after sleeping on it, the curls relax into what you call "stringy". I don't mind that now because the warm & humid weather has arrived & my thin hair looks full. Now I'm a new subscriber!

    I’m black, so I have coils hair., I don’t need to scrunch mine; it will roll up on its own if I let it. I am watching this to learn about different hair types. And a difference I see is that if I can get my hair to a point of being stringy when wet gives me beautiful curls. Most of my problems were solved using Curls Curl Paste on slightly damp hair. There is no noticeable gel caste. My hair just looks great. But, I think your hair looks lovely.

    • @ThisIsNotMyHome
      @ThisIsNotMyHome 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @allikasterg3021 I'm about to buy L'Oréal Ever Pure shampoo. I've seen it recommended for low porosity hair types, and it's a more affordable option than others often recommended. But you can also clarify using apple cider vinegar. For a gentle ratio, mix 1 part ACV to 3 parts water. For stronger solution, do 50/50. You can apply it to scalp and roots before you shampoo as a pre-poo, then shampoo, and then use it as a final rinse (after all products have been thoroughly rinsed clear).. you'll leave it instead of following up with additional water to rinse the ACV rinse out. Don't worry, the smell will fade away once hair is dry. It helps rid build-up and restore pH balance, and when used as a final rinse, it adds some shine and softness to hair. You can also just add a teaspoon of baking soda to your shampoo that is free of sulfates, silicones, and proteins. This will perform in a clarifying manner. I'm using the baking soda and ACV already, but I haven't been using the correct products for my low porosity hair, and I have lots of protein buildup so I'm going to get the proper type of clarifying shampoo in addition to using bs and acv. Now I'm on a quest to find other affordable low porosity products because the majority are so expensive

Perhaps this is a topic other natural curly gals have issues with. Thx!

      Always had fine, lower density hair, that gets really easily weighed down and stretched, and it is lower density still going into menopause. Without knowing what you are doing now, no one could say for certain, but I can tell you that I have to go really lightweight, have my hair soaking wet (to use less product and encourage the clump), use mousse only at the roots, I actually use body lotion just at the ends for definition and hold, and then use a camping towel to scrunch and get the excess off. I then deal with those roots that like to stick to my scalp (ugh) or lie in funny directions. Good luck to you!

    *Healthy Hair First* . I discovered your channel when I was on a mission to just have healthy hair. I was going through menopause (hair fall-out), hard water and crappy product repercussions. I stopped coloring my hair, upgraded my products and got a series trim. I wasn't even attempting to embrace the "waves", but I did and have never looked back. I recently took off about four inches because pictures say it all. My hair had gotten to long to hold my 2B waves and looked sparse at the ends. Collar bone length works best for me as I don't have high density and I like to be able to put my hair up in a claw clip. I have yet to find a ride or die gel so I stick with mousse. T-shirt only for plopping and minimal diffusing works best for me. I only use distilled water for re-freshing and a bit of Aussie Mousse with Leave-In. Any time I have over manipulated my hair, it's not been a great wash day. I stay in my lane. It's a good wash day for me if my hair looks like yours does in this video. Thank you Courtney, you are a gem!

Every so often the stars would align and I'd have the perfect hair day. It's so frustrating not being able to figure it out. And with two little kids I just don't have time to devote to figuring it out right now. So I've just been washing with good products and doing the squish to condish for now. I just started my curly hair journey a few days ago, i always thought i had straight hair but i realised that my brothers and my mum have curly hair, and when i was a little kid i had curly hair too. The past few months I started noticing that in the shower my hair would naturally curl/wave when i conditioned it. Just tried using some curl cream in my hair the other night and oh my gosh, its really wavy, some loose ringlets but mostly stringy waves. My hair is bleached all over so it makes sense that its stringy and more wavy than curly. Im pretty sure that if i keep this up and get a few trims then it will become pretty defined. But i have also realised that my hair has stopped tangling so much after i let it curl! My hair always gets tangled at the back when i blow dry it straight. And id spend 30 minutes in the shower trying to detangle it. But tonight i washed it for the first time after trying the curly method and once the water soaked my har, i brushed my fingers through and there was ZERO tangles!!!

I clarified (Bumble&Bumble Sunday) deep conditioned x 5 mins with Curlsmith multi tasking (very fine, low density hair), rinsed, brush styled, mousse (Pantene which I use alot), gel (Ouidad red label) microplopped, hover and pixie diffused. Stringy parts, frizzy parts and lots of volume. UGH....... Sometimes this routine works great!

    I actually like your hair at the start of the video too!! Probably because that's what my good hair days look like. I prefer a bit more of a looser wave and less definition on myself; I usually run a wide tooth comb through once or twice and I get so much volume! I've found the trick to combating frizz is to use two small pumps of the Curlsmith Full Body Thickening Lotion and it really keeps that frizz at a minumum :)
    Also! I finally bought a chelating shampoo as we have *extremely* hard well water. Haven't tried that yet but gonna try next week when I have my next day off!

    Thank you SO MUCH for this video. I’m at the beginning of my wavy hair journey and have done two wash days so far. I’m excited at just how wavy my hair is 😮, but was bummed with having curly fries on my head. I tried (without knowing how) to soften them up and break the cast, but unfortunately that just turned into a big frizzy mess. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’m grateful of you taking the time to share your knowledge with us and am encouraged to continue. I live in Dallas and would be very appreciative if you would suggest a wavy/curly stylist I could partner with. Thank you again. 😊

A cpl ?'s for you though... 1st i heard you say "fearfully & wonderfully made" I hear you!!!!! Now to the actual question I have perm'd hair. I had straight straight straight hair growing up but than I started having a wave... in ONE spot... underneath in the back and than it slowly starting around the sides. I had horrible straight hair! So I recently got a perm & I am praying these tips will also work for my perm as it technically isn't natural!!!

    Thanks for this. I've been going nuts trying to get my hair to be full with curly definition for the past 2 months and I never know what my hair is going to look like. I was born with very straight hair but when I had my son (who has curls), my hair turned curly. I had no idea what to do with it so I just kept trying to make it straight again. I finally decided to embrace my hair and trying different products the past two months....it is exhausting, confusing, frustrating 😵‍💫. I guess I am just going through a transition - 6 more months to go .🤷

    I have tried higher-end gels and I still can’t find anything that doesn’t make my hair feel kind of seized up (like bounce curl gel, orange marmalade, ouidad, etc). All the slip goes away. I end up only using a curl cream because of this, but then, of course, end up with very little hold for my delicate waves/curls. What’s the juiciest/slippiest/least seizing-up gel you have found for those of us that thought gels just aren’t right for us? 😝

    My hair is SO stringy! I went from completely straight hair one kink that got wavier with each child until age 40 baby no 3 had ringlets at back 3 little ones 2 jobs and zero time to learn to style so either left naturally bumpy wavy bit frizzy or straightened for past 13 years. Now with perimenopause hormones its wavy to the root & very tight S wave but only wavy on top & sides when wet and clumps are SO stringy, in addition have been having bleach highlights for past few years with blow drying and flat irons twice a week and it looks frazzled when left to dry naturally or wavy, but it looks really beautiful & sleek and flattering when straight, personally I long for my straight hair back, but I can’t keep straightening because now due to a very major stomach surgeries impact on my digestion & vitamin absorption plus late perimenopause I have excessive hair loss I am concerned about, so I want to nurture my hair back to health with the wavy girl method and need to learn the styling, however the ultra stringy frazzled frizzy zero curls on top or side is really getting me down, i have a very public on display professional life and I like to look well groomed and always used to get comments on how beautiful my hair was it was kind of my pride & joy, now it’s a birds nest and getting me down, apparently I am over moisturised due to constant deep conditioning masks left on for ages every wash for a year but low on protein so am trying to sort that out, but any other advice? Having crap hair makes me feel really miserable I have always had lovely pretty hair I am finding it really hard to cope with the transition stage I have always given up trying to embrace my natural waves before after a few weeks but wasn’t aware of the importance of silicone free products us wavies need so am now trying again having spent £140 on all the products/equipment I need. And it takes SOOO long compared to wash dry straightening with ghd hot brush whole thing took 45-50 mins from washing to completion looking great & getting on with life, now it’s this whole drama that takes hours and the end it looks bloody terrible. Please help how can I help the top layer over heat damaged that just holds zero shape looks like straw/string but is soft fluffy frizzy & covers up the waves & coils underneath. Amy advice so appreciated your channel is AMAZING!!!❤

      And me please! I have very stiff and ‘broom like’ hair which sounds like it may be protein build up?

    • @ThisIsNotMyHome
      @ThisIsNotMyHome 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@christinewalker9802 yes, what I believe I'm dealing with. Need to avoid products with proteins.. especially hydrolyzed since that means it's a larger molecule of protein being used. Some protein names are biotin, keratin, collagen, soy and vegetable protein, wheat, oat flour, milk protein, casein, amino acids, etc. If the packaging uses these kinds of descriptive words, then it's likely to be protein based: "restorative", "strengthening", and "firming".
      Silicones smooth the cuticle, and with low porosity hair the cuticle is already too closed so that can cause even more build up and issues with moisture, hair loss, etc.. and sulfates are too drying, causing similar reactions.. and I've been doing all 3 😆.. no wonder my hair has changed for the worse.. unfortunately, the products we need aren't as available or affordable as the majority on the market. That needs to change! It's said that low porosity hair types only makeup 20 percent of population, but I think that's false. I think it's more than that and we've been unaware and unknowingly using wrong products based on marketing practices and availability.

    I, like many others, love your hair in this video. I did get a bit lost in exactly what you did differently on this wash day. I watched it to see how you got that volume. Could you do one explaining the different techniques for volume vs definition. Both are ofcourse ideal but probably not realistic. When I say please to a volume video, I don't mean the bad stuff obviously. I won't use Terry cloth towels or cheap, bad products. But perhaps different methods of styling that are also healthy for our hair. Thanks! Also, as I said in the fb pm I sent you. Thanks for the t-shirt tip! I now own sooooo many!
