      Michael Spaulding exactly

    • @ItsFriscoBaby
      @ItsFriscoBaby 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yeah put out what you want to if you're happy with the view numbers being whatever amount of people are interested in it.
      If however you need views for income to live it's probably best to stick with what the audience wants.
      I get this car, it'll be cool when done but people aren't watching the videos.

    • @evilcowboy
      @evilcowboy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Amen
      Generally people who talk shit just have not a shred of knowledge on the subject so they criticize out of idiocy. The classic I can't understand a lick of what you are saying so I'll just say "your project is stupid" and continue to be a dick.
      People like that are morons but in the end there is no easy fix for stupidity.

    Hey Eric! First, the Fairmont is a great idea. Secondly, if one would put their thinking cap on. They would see that this build applies to ANY CAR! All the work done to this vehicle could be executed across multiple car lines. Folks have issues with thinking outside of the box. The interesting part is you are not even the trailblazer for this exact project. Oh well some like things all neat a tydy never venturing out of their own world. Keep it up Eric!

    • @sparkplug1018
      @sparkplug1018 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thats exactly why I can't figure out why people are so pissed off about this build. Any of this applies to other builds. And in some ways more then some may think, for example the rear suspension he's installed and is taking us through how to set up is exactly the type of rear suspension that a 3rd gen F-body has stock.

    Eric, I agree with most of the comments here. You are building what you want and bring along anyone who wants to watch, learn or build along at home. I know I made the comment about the toolbox video that may have annoyed you but as I said in my second comment on the toolbox video I didn't mean to upset you. I really do support your work and enjoy almost every video you make. I don't want to be wrapped into the "troll" label. Build your sleeper. Build your dream. You have the support of many of your subs and myself. I won't stop watching. I am a Mopar guy and I own one of those near 500hp SRTs. Keep up the great work. Stay dirty!

    Thanks for the videos, you have inspired me to build my 99 ranger into a tribute and sleeper. It is in honor of my wife's grandmother who into her nineties drove like the "little old lady for Pasadena". Keep it up and just remember its all about having fun.

    Personally I like the fairmont idea, the concept of a sleeper so I'm all for it.
    Honestly watching the fairmont videos has helped me so much with regards to learning about cars and working on them, etc. I cant really express my gratitude in words for your work and really do justice toward the help I got from your work

    Been following this build since day 1. Loved watching every step of it. Many of us home mechanic DIY'ers have or think about doing projects just like this all the time. And for all of us with projects that never got off the ground or made it to the finish line, we're cheering you on. Awesome work and can't wait til you get everything buttoned up.

    Build what you want and because you want to.
    The vast majority are here and like the Fairmont build.
    The series is good, it shows the trials, tribulations, changes, choices and obstacles that are encountered during a real world build.
    The ones bitchin are the ones that want free specific step-by-step how-to videos which they can get if they search your channel or pay a small fee to access your website members section.

  • @Mathicuss
    @Mathicuss 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Eric please post what you want to do and love to do. If you don't at that point it just becomes a job. The audience that tends to favor the repair videos will either adapt or leave but just remember that you will pull in a new audience with your awesome build. This is your first car build and once it's built it will be amazing! That in itself will bring your channel to a new level. Can't wait to see more build videos.

    It is cool to see this build happen. Don't feel bad. People are used to seeing a car built in a 20 minute montage on TV and just don't get that that isn't how life actually works. You obviously have a passion for this. Pursue it without apology! It is cool.

    Dude, sorry you have to explain yourself. I love the channel and have for many years. It's single handedly given me the confidence to work on cars and now that is one of my favorite hobbies and I have saved tons of money. I was super excited when you introduced the idea of doing the Fairmont way back when. I still like watching the Fairmont videos because they still have TONS of great info, because they are similar to the repair vids except you have WAY LESS rust to deal with. Keep up the great work Eric. I really appreciate your efforts and I hope that you can continue to produce content.
    By the way, I can't wait to see what you do to "hide" that huge intercooler, OMG!

    Hell Eric, *I'M* excited about your car.

    Eric keep it up. I love seeing the whole process of building a car from the bottom up and seeing what could go wrong and how you resolve those issues.
    As for pleasing the subscribers that purely want repair videos, maybe make a poll for them to vote on your website so they can request a specific type of repair video. That being said you have put out hundreds of hours worth of repair videos so you arent going to please everyone. stay dirty

    Wow, glad I found you, sir! I'm about to buy an '81 Fairmont wagon, marginal interior but straight body with good chrome, running well and at a bargain price, but know little about them. This one has the Thriftpower Six and C3, factory stock and running well. It's an old man's car for sure, but then I'm 74 so it's appropriate. However, I don't like to leave a car alone. I want to swap to a Ford Big Six 240/300, for which I have lots of good bits, mated to a floor-shift overdrive manual trans that is gathering dust. I've been wondering where I'd find the manual-shift pedals and stuff to do this, and now here you are telling me that Fox-body Mustang parts will likely interchange. Great news, thanks again, Eric!! --Smitty

    I totally get the desire for a sleeper and this thing is going to be sick when it's finished. I don't care too much for the build videos like many, but I'm no hater, you do you Eric and have fun! I'll continue to watch the videos you make that interest me.

    I like when someone sees a car, has a vision, and then works hard to make the car fit their vision. If a Ford Fairmont, Chevrolet Corvette, or Honda Civic strikes your fancy, then all the power to you. I wish all you car builders the best! (My car is a 1985 Ford Mustang GT, and yes, I have big plans for it.)

  • @charlessmarr7107
    @charlessmarr7107 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Eric, people either get it or they don't. I put a Dodge Omni GLH Turbo Engine and suspension from a Showroom stock racer that had been rolled and totaled into a Plymouth Horizon. Gee I loved that car. When I was finished I had worked on every nut, bolt and system of that car. It was faster than a V-8 Mustang. Build your car, your way. It will give you pleasure for many years. There is always another repair to do, to be forgotten next week. Thank you for sharing this process with us.

  • @MrFtax
    @MrFtax 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wrote you a few years ago telling you that while I'm not much of a mechanic, I watch you religiously because of your obvious passion and love of what you do. I still see that same level of excitement. As you mentioned, this Fairmont project moves you. Just do it and the viewership will come. This is just a transition period for your channel. Viewers who want repair videos will migrate elsewhere and those who love builds will find you and subscribe. The only way to fail is to try to make everyone happy. Just be true to yourself.

  • @Idtelos

    I've really enjoyed watching all the Fairmont videos. Am really more interested in cars like your Integra, but with everything you've talked about with the learning process and concept behind this project, I support you all the way!
    You really don't need to justify your interest in this project; your interest itself is the justification for the project and the video series. Good luck with finishing up.

    Eric, I completely understand ! I'll be 70 on June 20th, and I drive a '81 C-10, with a twin turbo 383 small block, ( 673 HP, 21 lbs of boost, all forged internals ) , original paint and dents, that I drive on a daily basis, to just kick the stuffing out of so called "supercars". Like you, full aftermarket suspension, reinforced chassis, brakes, etc. It's a natural gas ! It's really pissed a few people off to get beaten by a white-haired old man in a beat up pickup truck. I did all my own work, over a couple of years, and that just makes it more fun to run ! I hope you enjoy your 'sleeper' as much as I do mine !

    Greetings from the UK, and if today's your wedding anniversary, my sympathies.
    Thank you for explaining the logic behind this build. I'll be honest and admit that as a Brit subscriber I have only watched a couple or so episodes with only mild interest. Now that I understand the mission I will watch all future postings.
    I am a huge fan of 'a wolf in sheep's clothing', the long-winded way of saying 'sleeper' over here. I have had several over 50 years of motoring. My current daily drive is a well maintained below average mileage 2003 Lexus IS 300. It looks like what it is - a 14 year old small saloon, but put the pedal to the metal and it chews up boy racers and brings a smile to my face every time. The thing is almost nobody recognises what they are up against.
    My special drive is a 1990's Bentley 6.75 litre. A luxury grandpa cruiser, driven by this old wrinkley. But watch the faces of the Audi, BMW and WV Golf drivers when they try it on! Fantastic fun - but that right foot does get expensive.
    I look forward to the next episode.

    Eric, I for one LOVE these Fairmont videos. I'm fascinated with the performance parts that you're putting on this car, and the details you are filming about their installation. To me, having a discussion about what you are doing while you are doing it is awesome. I loved the episodes at Kelvinator Engines; it's obvious that Kevin knows what he is doing and has a teacher's ability to explain things very clearly.
    Keep up the good work. I appreciate your efforts.

    Eric, don't to listen to peoples opinions on youtube. Here is why...
    1. People want to see different videos, so you can't win either way. Just look at film reviews as an example.
    2. People are stupid. They think they know what they want, but don't.
    3. You have have achieved more with ETCG them 99% ever will so they are butthurt.
    4. TH-cam comments are cancer, including mine.
    You are in charge of your content, go any direction you want.

    Hi from Australia
    I'm with you Eric, love your honesty and being so generous to us all. I started watching for info on drive shafts and I'm still here probably because of your level of detail, genuine sense of humour and also the Fairmount project.
    one thing I would say is that I think we all want to see you enjoying it a lot!!!
    I like Mighty car Mods approach to really giving the audience a feast of a video once a project is finished.
    so if you go to the drag strip. record as many angles as possible especially the view from your angle and yoir reaction. the car launching from the outside etc.
    I would wait an extra month to see more footage :)
    I hope yoir high production value means that you may earn residual income from these videos for years to come you have earnt it!

    I hear ya buddy, I did the same thing about 10 years ago. I transferred everything from a totaled 92 Cobra and built a Fairmont but did mine in a NASCAR theme with numbers on the side, decals, removable aluminum covers over the front and rear lights. I won numerous awards at car shows with it and drove the hell out of it. I really miss that car.

    Eric the only answer you have to give is "because I want to" it's your project, being built in your shop, with your hands on your time, using your money

    Eric, if you gave me a choice between two cars, a Mustang and Fairmont, both built identically, each one as fast and agile as the other, I would choose the Fairmont every single time. You would never expect the darn thing. Imagine you pull up to a stop light next to a Mustang.. even a new one and blow the freaking doors off of it. Eric, you've made a huge fan out of me over the past few years, I was a fan a few years back, I was a fan when the Fairmont videos started, and I'm every bit the same fan now. That will never change. You can upload Fairmont videos for the next 10 years if you like, I will watch and enjoy them all. Thank you so much for all you do Eric!

    I like Eric's videos while the commercial is playing in the beginning.
    I'm excited to see the rest of the Fairmont Project. Maybe when that first set of tires is almost shot you do a day on the drag strip or a track day. Cant wait to see all that power put down!

  • @NickNakorn

    I have to say I really like the project. The whole sleeper thing is very appealing and playing with all that power will undoubtedly be fun. I wanted to say something about the rear suspension; it's a wise choice in my view and would benefit an otherwise stock car because real-life A-B driving on mixed roads is all about handling and rarely about brute power unless all the roads you use happen to be pretty much straight. Of course, here in the UK we have very few straight roads and most are narrow so the desire for horsepower has never caught on in quite the same way as in the USA.

    Working on a car like the Fairmont is cooler than just another modded Mustang (YAWN)
    I get what you're doing Eric, I support your choice of car to do it with, and it makes things way more interesting.
    The kiddies who want to see Fast and Furious crap are welcome to look at other car channels that cater to that scene.

    I posted this before watching. Generally when a mechanic builds a car that was not considered a fast sporty car in its production life it is simply to make a sleeper. Basically a car that looks normal to every cop car and everyone on the road while mechanically it is capable of running the 1/4 in a certain amount of time. The second reason would be to simply know what is under the hood and what is making the car mechanically work and a person becomes intimately knowledgeable about not only the car in question but more importantly what engine and transmission it has.
    This is the exact reason when you ask someone who has built their car what their gear ration is, what is the compression of the engine, what is its displacement, what deck height it has, if their crank and cam are cast or forged etc etc they can tell you.
    This can be compared to how Les Baer and Ed Brown know so much about the 1911 pistol. Because they have devoted a lot of time to it and any machine regardless of size that you invest time, work and money into you will automatically come away from it more knowledgeable about the particular machine.
    Thats why I assumed the reasons for you building a Fairmont

    Eric no need to justify yourself to strangers on the internet. As the late great Steve McQueen would say "I live for myself and I answer to nobody" so continuing doing what you want to do and enjoy the shit out of it. The right people will stick around and support you through and through

    I came across your fairmont build when I was doing research on possibly buying a foxboy mustang to use in NASA AI. I ended up getting a SN95 96' Cobra, but a ton of the same parts and stuff applies to the SN95 and I really appreciate you doing the work and showing all of us.

    In the remodel business, we would say that you succumbed to the four words that blow the budget: "while we're at it."
    But hey, you can afford it -- so go for it.

    I really get what you are going for. I've spent the last 10 years building a 1966 Chrysler Newport 4 door into a mild sleeper. I can attest to how hard it is to find parts and the astronomical price once you find them. I love the look on someone's face when a car that big passes them when their trying to race me thinking I'm slow.

    Your Fairmont concept is awesome man! It will be a beautiful sleeper when it's completed. People see a Mustang at a light and will be sketchy about trying to give you a run cause, well it's a Mustang. It's that much more satisfying to be in this "slow" Fairmont and blow the doors off of someone who's in something that's easily 2 to 3 times as much money. Keep it up Eric!

    Interesting project! You brought back some pleasant memories. We bought a "new" 1978 Fairmont Wagon in that same pale yellow with the Squire woody trim. New in quotes because it was a demonstrator, from back in the day when one of the perks of working for a dealership was always having a fresh new car to drive. Ours had been assigned to the service manager, so I figured it would be good as new even with 8,000 on the clock. Yeah, I know they were ho-hum "old man" cars, but it was the fanciest thing I had ever owned after having two VW's and two Pinto wagons. Family car for a family guy.
