- It's a long conversation and there are 2 outcomes where Sebastian will damn Astarion placing the Curse of the Sired on him. Astarion's reaction is heart wrenching. So much emotion in this scene. Baldur's Gate 3 team really did it well.
It's easy to miss that he curses Astarion as the conversation has a lot of choices. Entire conversation with all options shown.
I was unable to illustrate it on this Tav, but if you fail the Persuasion or Intimidation checks during the conversation, Sebastian will also curse Astarion.
Sebastian was a minor character in the grand scheme of this game, and had very little dialogue compared to most, but his impact on Astarion's arc is massive and crucial. And his ability to stick with you is such incredible writing and acting.
this scene and sebastian as a character made such a big impact on me. you can tell astarion really truly cares/cared and feels awful. i really really really really like sebastian.
same
It’s heartbreaking that on origin play through he has to make a roll to try and remember his name 😢
Its even sadder on Origin Astarion playthrough, you can do a DECEPTION check to trick Sebastian into thinking Astarion wanted him romantically
Right? He seems like he was such a sweetheart when he was alive, he has such a gentle and kind voice
Easy pickings for a newer vampire just getting used to hunting, poor Sebastian 💔
The sheer agony and rage in Sebastian's voice...it's so well-acted.
I don't think Sebastian curses him but that Astarion gets a deep negative phycological reaction because the debuff can also appear post Sebastian conversation when he is speaking to Tav
I have only seen the curse occur after Sebastian speaks the words, "damn you" to Astarion.
@@Stellina-takeheart in my playthrough Astarion got the debuff after I told him that in another life he would have killed me, too. He looked devastated
My god, Sebastian's actor's performance was phenomenal in this scene.
On whether Sebastian is literally putting a magical curse on Astarion or if his words just hurt him that much: split the difference, and Sebastian is a bard. His words are magical, but they cut deeper than just a Vicious Mockery because they jarred him so badly.
It almost feels like it's more indicative of astarion's feelings he took on in that moment, just based on the description of the curse.
Its almost like choosing compassion gets you somewhere cruelty or callousness wouldn't! Gosh.
Just when I thought Astarion's 200 year life was miserable I see Sebastian. Held in a disgusting prison like cattle for 170 years. Astarion hated Cazador when he did the same to him for just 1 year and here is someone for 100 and fucking 70 years and all this time he must have been thinking how he was fooled, not seduced...fooled by Astarion. All he remembered is being wooed by Astarion, his first kiss and then being led to Cazador's palace maybe with another promise of a "night you won't ever forget". Explains why Sebastian hates him so much. He truly lost everything after being charmed by Astarion. All in one night. His family, friends, his entire life...lost in a blur. Astarion complained of not seeing the sun, Sebastian saw nothing apart from that cell.
my boy got the ptsdebuff 💔
My first time down there i was set on ascension fot astarion, but wow
That whole event changed my mind, bravo to the va's.
I've played through this twice and I've never realised he could curse Astarion! I guess I was lucky?
i had no idea he was the one who cursed him! wow
I absolutely love, that he can actually curse him. ^^
Makes no sense really, most would be lvl 1 commoners or at best nobles or experts, also lvl 1. No spellcasting ability. Giving them false hope before completing the ritual is more humane though.
@JMOlsen-kk3vu Look at what the curse does. It's a reflection of a bad conscience. Basically him being cursed because he feels cursed or an indication that those words really stung and hit the mark.
@@anska7475 Not how sorcery typically works in D&D. In our world, some curses work much like you think, that they only work on a susceptible target (if the caster isn't skilled), but D&D is not like that. Hence my original comment.
@@anska7475 and yet you can remove it with Remove Curse spell like any other magical curse.
@@anska7475I don’t think Sebastian actually curses him, but that Astarion gets a traumatic reaction.
And then people proceeded to let him complete the ritual 😭 like what?!?
The amount of detail put into this game still amazes me!😮😢
I just had shadowheart cast remove curse on him after, couldn't let my boy walk into a big fight with a debuff
I only even discovered the curse after long-resting after the big fight. Hastened Minthara whoops so much ass, I didn’t even notice a difference…
I was wondering how people got this debuff...you literally have to pick the 2 most callous, inhumane options 😅 how did anyone get this by accident? I can see getting it on purpose for RP but damn.
Yeah, I've played through the game 4 times and never had this debuff, never even heard of it until I read about it in the comments...
@Andromeda087 Yeah same. I saw it in a tiktok vid and was like...what?
Yes, I only got it by clicking through all dialogue options out of curiosity. It's such a good detail.
haven't been to the fight yet but from what i've heard of it i thought it was like an inevitable thing that you always get but it's. so avoidable?
@@mel-burnes You mean the Cazador fight? You get - let's call it different debuff related issues there, they have a similar icon though.
I didn’t even know Sebastian can curse him? I had the scene where they conversed but never saw a debuff or anything :o
Wow. I didn’t even know
I believe I took "What do you want to happen?" - Cause I wanted to now, if they still want to live or not... But he cursed Astarion 🤔 But not sure... I broke the curse after this conversation with the spell, but it hits me hard. 😭
I think about this moment a lot
It's a bit odd, I had the curse of the sire on one of my other playthroughs but then it disappeared and now on a new one it's lasting for a while. 🤔🤔
Not sure how long it's supposed to last but I used Shadowheart to remove the curse from him lol
Poor Sebastián..😢
Remove curse, move on -Durge
Wow I think I stumbled ass backwards into this route in my first play through, cause I didn't even know there was a curse he could give Astarion 😂 me and my luck
I didn’t realise astarion getting cursed was a thing. I must just be that good 😎
So was Sebastian the "darling boy" Astarion talked about? The one that got him buried alive?
I believe he was buried alive for running away instead of bringing that, "sweet man" back to Cazador. He says when Cazador caught me, then describes being buried alive. Sebastian describes being brought to Cazador's Castle, so I think it was a different person.
I didn't even connect the first time that each of the seven main spawn's conquest were connected to their own scar specifically. A reminder of the person who damned them. It's wild. I also never got the curse, I kind of want to fail the persuasion check just to see now.
What are all the "places of traumatic memories" where this curse is in effect???
Oookay. The curse was the thing that felt more rare to me! My bard passes every check.
Wow didn’t know he could get cursed.
Me, who never received the curse: There's a curse?
Anyone else feel with that curse, Sebastian invoked the Dark Powers of Ravenloft?
Ah so thats who he was. Ive nevwr brough Astarian down here lol
Getting cursed? What does it mean? I’m pretty sure mine didn’t get cursed and I just finished that storyline
The curse if you received it, will put a debuff on Astarion while he is in Cazador's Palace.
@@Stellina-takeheart oh cool, I din't notice, I guess
@Stellina-takeheart it lasts longer. I didn't notice he was cursed. Slept at camp just to see if it goes away. Remainee until shadowheart removed
Sebastian can curse Astarion????????????????
indeed he can and will depending on the conversation.
Dude how are you level 9 I was level 12 already do side missions before those so you e9nt struggle
I didn't have a problem at level 9, but thanks.
It depends on what order you do the missions in.
Pretty sure Shadowheart can cure the curse too right? 😊
anyone with remove curse can cure it.
Got the curse, killed them all. Also didn't feel anything bad after that curse, gave the power to Astarion. Well done, goodbye bad memories 😄 when I saw him I thought oh no Astarion we will get rid of them no worries its disgusting. Its a hell army of angry sex exes.
