I've actually stopped buying any new ships. I have a jumper, a fighter and a cargo mover. What happens to me is I buy a ship, I engineer it and then I try to use it and realize its not as good at anything my other three ships can do. I really wish there were more subcategories of ships with fixed modules and different focused abilities. for instance a "search and rescue ship". Imagine a ship all geared up for refuel, repair, better sensors that can find out more information about signal sources, an ability to pick up cargo from destroyed ships and get a bounty for returning it instead of "Illegal cargo" . maybe a ship just for helping people might get some NPCs to say "never mind, I will find another target, thanks for all you do commander!"

I’m new to Elite. Out of curiosity what ships do you use? I just got into the Cobra MKIII and I’m enjoying it so far. I’ll prob wait to buy another ship until I can afford something like the Krait MKII. I’m mostly into mining at the moment. However I’d like to transition to exploration in the future.
@@jjsemperfi how are you doing? I went from Cobra mk lll to type 6, did a little bit of mining, and bought krait mk ll :-D that ship is perfect. Now I have a bit more ships already. Don't you want some help playing?

@@jjsemperfi well I have two jump ships now. Aspx and an Anaconda. the conda has a longer range but cant land on med pads and the Aspx is really cheap to ship to a station so its my shuttle in the bubble. Imperial courier for mining and cargo and federal corvette for fighting pirates. I have picked up a few more ships just for fun but they are all mostly to break up the boredom and try something new. I bought a vulture and its fun to fight but fights last a long time in one, I got spoiled with the time to kill on my Corvette.
Im not great at coming up with the right words to properly express things; but i'll try my best here.
Your videos are quite frankly amazing. You manage to create content that is informative and well explained, while at the same time being both visually and auditorily a treat to enjoy. It says a lot about a the quality of your work when I would both enjoy listening to your videos without watching them, and watching them without hearing anything.
In short, I love and admire the work that you do and hope to be able to see it continue for as long as you enjoy making it.
Mr The Pilot I really hope you expand your reviews to other things like places of interest, factions, and other elements of Elite Dangerous. You have a knack for making ship reviews interesting and fun and I'd love it if you did that on a broader scale. Thanks for the videos!
Challenger is my dedicated anti thargoid ship, just amazing how fast it is for the amount of armor you can pack into it
I built mine for thargoids... But I also built the krait mk2... And I haven't stopped using the krait yet. Lol.
@@emilyhofland8219 I feel like this is exactly the problem with all 3 medium Alliance ships. It's not that they're bad at all. It's that once you have a Krait (really either Krait - the Phantom is astoundingly good at combat) it's hard to justify taking the Alliance ships out of the hangar.
@@austinm5630 i have every ship. 2 of some. All are A Rated. I'm just a Horder. I haven't found a used for alliance. That my krait and fdl don't already have held down.

Sure, ....Cyclops only. Anyone soloed a Basilisk? The ship has great lateral maneuverability but is too slow.
@@falco566 yes. There are videos of a CMDR in a Challenger soloing not only a Basilisk in an Ax conflict zone but also killed the Hydra at the end.
@@falco566 Guy in AXI solo'd a Hydra and three Basilisk in a Chieftain, no shields. Dude is a monster, no one else can compete. Video of it somewhere around here...

I’ll be frank. I guess I’m one of the few people that genuinely love the challenger. To get that DPS, for PVE combat missions and Bounties. I can sit in a hazard and come back with tens of millions of credits in hours. the cockpit doesn’t bother me that much. And with thargoids it does better than the chieftain, marginally but still better. I guess it’s just me I guess. But it’s a nimble tough, Dakka laser machine. Also a wonderful escort.
3 medium gauss cannons on the chin, 1 small up top. 2 small thermal vent beam lasers and a flak launcher. Outstanding Anti-Xeno ship. It’s a bit slow when fighting Basilisks solo but if you do AX CZs in a wing the extra dps and 2 thermal vent beams make it an outstanding ship.
"It's the one missing the maneuvering thrusters at the front...." It's amazing that it turns at all compared to Chieftains design.

You've got bags of potential man, I would love to see more outside-the-box topics. Every ship video so far has been great.
Challenger equipped with 3 guardian adv shards is a beast. (needs some work to handle the heat of whopping 3 x 19.8) But i am honestly surprised how well it handles heating issues when engineered.

I've been using the Challenger and Mamba alot recently. Lots of engineering on each, but they both look cool and do what i want. That is what seperates ELite Dangerous from EVE or Star Citizen: any ship can fill any role if you are willing to spend some time and effort to get it there. Sure, some ships are just better at some things, but as someone who took a T9 to Beagle Point and back, sometimes doing things sub-optimally can be more rewarding.

Buddy and I used it as a step up from the aspx because of the slightly increased cargo space. And then we did shit tons of wing missions. Now we both have non-engineered condas set up for trade with 20ly laden jump ranges
Recently discovered I have an affinity for rails. Looking closer at this mutant frog, I realized something: you can put a LOT of rails on this thing. The Challenger might have a use for something yet...
Both the Challenger and Chieftain feels amazing in VR, something about their turning profile feels smoother than basically any other ships.

It's for ground attack! Those 3 lower class 2 hardpoints have perfect convergence for dumbfire missiles and the extra resilience fits the role. The extra class 6 is for a large SRV garage.

This ship is an excellent AX combat ship. It can carry more medium gauss than the Chief and is remarkably stable in FA Off where the Chief is twitchy as hell.
It's a perfect counterpoint to the amazing Chieftain. They're a fantastic set of fraternal twins.

As with many others a weekly dose of the Pilot keeps me interested. Hopefully when FDEV sort out the ongoing September patches we can all getting playing reliably again. Until then a Pilot video gets me flying something I haven't tried in a while. Excellent as ever. (Still need to see the Clipper and FDL by the way). P.S. Love the paintings.

Hmm. Now that you mention it, I don't think I've ever had an oatmeal raisin cookie right out of the oven. I'm sure it'd be delightful though.
@@ElecManEXE There's a reason. It's remarkably terrible. A lot of the structural stability of cookies comes with cooling down, but it's especially bad for an oatmeal base. What you end up with is essentially a handful of hot oatmeal. With hot raisins.
Not to say you can't get a chocolate chip cookie to become hot magma in your hand, but at least it's melting gooey chocolate and actual cookie.
@@ThePilot_ Hmm. Fair enough I suppose. So warm chocolate chip cookies are better than warm oatmeal raisin cookies, but cool oatmeal raisin cookies are superior to cool chocolate chip cookies. And since cookies are going to be cool more often than warm, that means oatmeal raisin still wins overall :D

Love your videos Pilot. As someone who owns every ship in Elite g5 engineered I can definitively tell you the challenger excels at 2 roles.
1. Thargoid combat (scouts or interceptors with some cover)
2. Pirating. (The many hardpoints gives you a ton of options in weapons designed to disable ships.)
Although I still favour the chieftain, I’ve learned the challenger definitely fills a great spot in those two roles.
I would love to see a review of the Federal Corvette, the star-destroyer-not-star-destroyer ship. Excellent reviews, keep em coming!

I actually thoroughly enjoyed my Challenger. It can be a literal armored brick. I fit the first size 6 with a bi- weave, the second size 6 with a field maintenance unit. Then I basically did hull upgrades all the way down the list until my last size 4 internals which I used module reinforcement packages on. Without even upgrading the bulkheads, that thing got over 3,000 armor hit points.
It got me into the Fer-de-lance, but I still partially feel homesick for my Challenger. Especially when the Fer-de-lance's shields go out, and my armor is essentially tinfoil.
Surprised you didn't bring up one of the things it's best at.

Seen some good work done on Thargoids with this ship.
I got one. I have it set up as a dedicated hull tank bounty hunter. My bi weave may only have 400 mj in them, but my resistances are up to 50% across the bord and they recharge faster than you can blink.
Advice. Run with module reinforcements. At least 2. Or else your thrusters will be cut as soon as those sheilds go down

As someone who currently owns a Chieftain, I will say that I intend to upgrade to a Challenger rather soon, and for one important reason that isn't discussed in this video; the Challenger comes with one extra internal hardpoint.
It doesn't sound like much, but one of my biggest issues with my Chieftain is its' small fuel reserves, and after outfitting all of the internals with what I wanted the only spot I could fit one was in one of the Class 2 hardpoints, which isn't much of an improvement (going from 16T to 20T fuel capacity).
By comparison, a Challenger would allow me to use almost the exact same internals (One hardpoint goes down a class, another goes up a class), and I would still have a Class 3 hardpoint spare which would fit an extra 8T fuel tank, bumping me up to 28T.
Plus, if you want to do the whole dropship thing, you can fit some Economy Passenger Cabins into those hardpoints and attain a respectable amount of passenger capacity (replacing all of the Cargo Racks it starts with with the largest Economy Cabins that'll fit in those hardpoints, you'll get it up to a passenger capacity of 40.)

I sold my awesome Chieftain to ‘upgrade’ to this. The first fight I got into a fight was against a Chieftain and it kicked my ass! Went right back and bought a Chieftain again.
You know what... not being able to tell what it is for, in my book, is a huge plus. It means it can be anything you want it - need it to be! :D

Yup, it's a great AX ship most of all. Chief is considered medium meta by top AXI pilots, Chally is right behind it and some (including me) prefer it for the higher firepower. I have 2 PVE Challys and two AX Challys, I can't stress out how much I love it, including its sick boosting sound and the mad green lighting. That can only mean one thing - it's always a question of personal preference;) Great video as always, o7
Edit: I tried Federal murderbricks and can't stand them, while I really dig Alliance ships. Isn't it the best measure: take a seat in the cockpit, try to fly it and see if you like it or hate it? I can't think of a better one

I find the Challenger makes a good Courier. For those time/security sensitive missions that you expect to get told someone is coming to jack with you and you get a bonus for killing them.

Okay, so I play only in a private group, but I love the Challenger. Ive taken on numerous Anacondas, Pythons and Fer de Lances with it. Ran hundresd of data, assasination, anti pirate missions. Yes, I've lost a few when I bit off more than I should chew. Yes it only has a size 6 cargo rack, Multi cannons and burst lasers shield boosters, hull and module reenforcments always keeps me completing my missions no matter how many enemy alerts there are!

How to Fix the Challenger: Remove one size six internal and replace it with two size fives.
This thing does have an edge in AX over the Chieftain though. Those 3 medium hardpoints? Great for Guardian Gauss.

Also... more hull and medium hardpoints might mean better for a combat-inexperienced pilot to go against Thargoids? More gauss and assuming the newbies can't fully utilize the maneuverability.

As for the Challenger, my experience with it was rough. Very rough. The Chieftain is best, but the Crusader can be more fun if you set it up with fixed weapons and let your Elite ranked NPC fly it while you fly the fighter.

I will say this. As a xeno hunter, the Challenger is my go-to over the other Alliance ships. It goes toe to toe and has better lateral thrusters. One extra hardpoint for an extra cooling beam.

IMO. You are by far the best when it comes to showcasing ships from Elite Dangerous. I'm not joking man. "The Best!" Whenever I need to know more about a ship before I make the final decision on a purchase. I always come to you first. I just enjoy the way you put your content together. Hell, I even watch them just for the fun of it. Some of them make me bust out and start laughing. Like the "Chieftain" video. Oh, man! I had to show that one to at least 5 or 6 people that made me laugh so much. Just keep up the great work man 👍. It's always fun hearing what you have to say about these ships.
