The python bought me every other ship I own. I learned about HIP 8444 on Reddit. I was still in a type 6 at that point. I spent a few days grinding straight up to a python. I went down to 8444, and had trading elite by the end of the week. And a Cutter.

And you know, the obscene cost difference? Lol mining has skewed all these frame of references. He kinda nailed it in his Asp x video. The Cobra, the Asp and the python were just straight up better for a long time at their price point. Like, when you are grinding you don't have money for an Anaconda for hauling. And you must likely can't afford 2 primary ships. So a ship that can do literally everything better or marginally worse then specialized ships for the same price point is gonna be the reason you buy it. The Anaconda used to be prohibitively expensive when they insta nerfed huge money making schemes. Then along comes core and panite mining to shift our frame of reference so we choke back the carrier costs.

The Python is a swiss army knife. Its the ship you get when you want to do everything. If I had to sell all my other ships and keep one, it would be the Python.

    • @therealstubot
      @therealstubot 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I had to think about this. At first I agreed with you, but after a while, I came to the conclusion that the Anaconda was a better choice for my only ship scenario. I have a lot of money tied up in ships, and I've flown them all at one time or another. I originally used my python for combat, until I could afford an anaconda. I used my python for exploration for a long time. I bought a krait phantom to use for exploration and it's now my dedicated exploration ship. I use the python for doing rescue missions now. I used it for grinding a ton of Federal and Imperial rank, as well as getting rep for smaller factions. For combat, I have a Vulture, a krait mkII, a FDL, and a corvette. For mining, I use an anaconda and sometimes a cutter. For trading I use a cutter. For doing in bubble exploring and chasing degraded emissions and that sort of thing, I have a clipper, which is my favorite hot rod. I have a viper set up for going to guardian sites to grind for materials. I'm currently setting up a type-10 for going after thargoids, but might switch to another ship for that role.

    • @drink15
      @drink15 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

@@therealstubot The Anaconda is very good and like you, I have just about every ship and each one has a dedicated task or role. Out of all the ships, the Python (and in some cases the Krait) can do just about everything very well. The Anaconda is basically the large version of the Python with the only downside being its size. Too big for outpost and its an easy target.

@@greenthunder1000 The corvette jump range is complete crap and its really slow. Yes, it's nimble, has lots of shields, armor and internal space. So the corvette can do everything as long as everything is combat. Don't get me wrong, I love my corvette, it's hands down the most awesome combat ship I own. But doing trading with it? Or exploration? Never. I might try mining with mine though, if I could bring myself to dismantle the architecture of death I've constructed. Even mining requires a lot of jumping, and I would not look forward to that. But it would be sweet bumping around in the rocks.

Love your video, though I disagree with your closing statement, it is an amazing ship, yes for the late game player it's not useful, but for the one starting out it's amazing, you said youd rather haul in an Anaconda and fight in a Krait, but that's because you have enough money to outfit both of those ships, what if you dont? You start out with a Python, you can do it all and earn enough money to specialize your fleet and then the Python becomes a paperweight.
I haul and mine in a Cutter.
    I fight in a Corvette.
I explore/do errands like engineering and materials in an Anaconda
I deepcore in a Python until I find something better, that's all I use my Python for now, I used to use it for everything, until I got better ships for each job.
The Python got me my fleet, if anything I feel like that's its role.

I too am feeling this. I still have my python, but it's a stripped back runner. If I need to take mission cargo to an outpost I'll generally use my python for that. When I started playing E:D years ago, the Python was my dream ship almost entirely because of how it looks. The green and gray plus the sleek yet angular hull drew me in. After getting it, I did some hauling and light combat before I got bored of E:D. Now I've gotten back into the game and decided not have a one-size-fits-all with my Python, but build a fleet like many do. For now the Python is sitting pretty in a hangar, but I know I will find a reason to bust it out again some day (for fighting or hauling or smuggling or bounty hunting or who knows what). I just think it's too pretty and I love how it can do so many things, even if it's not the best at any particular thing--that's the point of a multipurpose ship anyway.
For someone like me who isn't a min/maxer, the Python is a very loveable ship, whether you use it for just one thing or it really is your jack of all trades.

I used the Python extensively when I was still making my up the Federation ranks and taking any mission I could get my hands on for experience, rep, materials and credits.
Now that I'm an established Commander with a respectable bank account and fleet of ships at my disposal I find I don't have a place for it.
I respect the Python but I too have ships I prefer to use for each of the various mission types. So while the Python is fantastic as your first "high dollar", top shelf medium capable of handling any task you set it too (with a little module swapping) there are ships capable of doing it better as a true specialist for any of those tasks.

The Python definitely still has a good niche role as a mission running ship. It can handle more cargo than the Krait and can land at the outpost stations where so many missions take you (unlike the Anaconda). It's a superb armed merchantmen. My "merchant" Python regularly massacres the pirate anacondas that try to interdict me during missions (for extra bounties and engineering materials). It's also a great choice (build slightly differently) for evacuating starports.
For combat and core mining, I prefer the Krait Mk2 but honestly, the Python's not bad either. I consider both to be some of the best balanced ships in the game and own more than one of each. Like the Anaconda, the Python's got excellent flexibility.

I didn't really enjoy the my time in the Python, but it's such a great ship at everything that I couldn't resist using it. I wasn't engineering at the time, so switching roles was as simple as switching internals and emptying / loading the hardpoints as needed. I disagree that there's "no reason" to fly it, though. Maybe that's true from a numerical standpoint, but each ship has its own character and the Python is no exception. On top of that individuality, you get a ship that, while not the best at everything, is at least an honorable mention that can fit on a medium sized pad. Excellent ship and yet another excellent video.

I have such complicated feelings about this ship. I ground my way to my Python, the Nightwind, fairly quickly, thanks to one of Hawkes Gaming's guides. I was so stoked to get it. And yet, I find it a hard ship to love. I don't like how it handles, and my one experience taking it into combat was deeply unsatisfactory. Admittedly, that was very early on, and between experience I've gained fitting ships plus engineering, I'm sure I could make it brilliant in combat, but what's the point, with an Anaconda and FDL in my hangar. The more play, the less I fly this ship.
And yet...without her, I would have none of it. No 'conda, no FDL, no Phantom. It is exactly what Hawkes always claims it to be: An express ticket to vast interstellar riches, in almost any way that strikes your fancy. To this day, if I need credits, this ship provides, tirelessly, without issue or pause, whether it's deep core mining or Robigo-Sothis passenger runs. I may not love it, but I respect it immensely.
The Pilot called the Anaconda the foundations of an empire, but I'm not sure I agree. I feel like the Anaconda and her large sisters, the Cutter and Corvette, are the shining towers of your personal empire, but I think the Python is the true foundation. In the early to mid-game, it gets what you need, however you need to get it. And that flexibility is what truly makes the Python your springboard to the endgame ships

    Good one, Commander!
What bothers me a lot is, that Frontier does not care for balance.
They do not balance the ships versus other ships.
They do not give ships specific roles where they are better then others.
Yes, all ships can do all jobs in Elite.
You can use a Hauler for Combat, you can use an Eagle as an Explorer, you can use a Sidewinder as a Hauler. (Ha!, See what I did there? ;))
And yes, I picked those 3 ships specifically to hightlight two points.
    First of all:
We have 3 major branches in Elite: Exploration, Transportation, Combat.
All other jobs are basically sub-branches of those 3.
This should serves as a guidline for designing ships.
And yes, there are multi-role or multi-purpose ships that have no specific jobs in mind.
Like the Anaconda or Python, or even the Cobra.
But those should be designed to be Jacks of all Trades and Masters of none.
The Anaconda is such a Multirole-Ship. And it is NOT A Jack of all Trades, it is a MASTER of all trades.
Thats bad design if ever I saw it.
Frontier should really buff other ships (not nerf the Anaconda), to make them viable.
    And second of all:
I picked the Hauler, Eagle and Sidewinder as examples, to highlight on thing:
That a lot of ships become obsolete, once you have enough money.
    That is also bad design.
Yes, I still use the Eagle for combat - but it is not efficient, when compared to other Combat-Ships.
I use it for sentimental reasons. And because it is a challange to make it work.
But I think there should be better reasons than just sentimental ones, when it comes to choosing a ship for a task.
Money should NOT be a reason to pick a ship.
Especially when considering how fast you can make money, if you know what to do.

I love that the game really focuses on player flying ability, rather than, 'this player has better equipment so they'll win every time'. Sure, a ship's equipment plays a major part, but in the end, a bad pilot will lose to a good pilot every time, regardless of ship or equipment. That's how these types of games should be.

I bought a Python... because I already owned a Krait.
I just recently settled into Colonia and and didn't want to wait the 66 hours for my Krait to get crated up shipped out here ( or that the S&H charges are more than the ship costs. ) . I was tempted to purchase a Beluga and try my hand at hauling passengers again, but I noticed there was a ton of outposts in the area so I opted for the medium pad friendly ship. I could've bought a second Krait, but I'm not at the point where I want duplicates in my fleet.
Overall it's a good ship. It doesn't have the charm or the coffee pot that the Krait offers, but it feels familiar. If you've been in a Sidewinder, and Cobra, then the Python feels like the bigger brother it was made to be. After playing hours in Flight Simulator 2020, the double seat cockpit feels traditional and perhaps even a bit more realistic for a ship of it's size. I'm mostly just using it for cargo hauling in a near stock configuration since outfitting isn't as easy out here.. Maybe I'll brake down and use eddb or something to find gear, but I'll try just keeping my eye out for a while.
Overall I think it's a good ship, and I can see why for many it would be the perfect Goldilocks ship... I'll give it some time.

Well... I love my Python, it has done a bit of everything and I can say that that my " Nicolette" had a huge part helping me where I'm at today in Elite, got my Anaconda and then my Corvette mostly because of it, grinding ranks and making 5 to 10 million in cargo missions that would take me 10 minutes or less to complete each time I left the station, used it for combat too it was great, but now I use it for cargo. Going through the mail slot speeding is really easy when I have some illicit stuff and it can dock anywhere, sure I can use the T9 or the Anaconda for cargo but there are a lot of mission that requires a medium size dock and some times waiting to get a cargo mission that has a large landing pad takes too long so most of the time I go for the Python.
The Krait MK II I got 2 of those, one for combat/salvage stuff etc... and other for mining , great ship too but I still prefer the Python for cargo missions. Each ship in my fleet has a specific role like most of us, and my Python" Nicolette" is the fast money making rank grinding ship.

Plus it's maneuverable enough and fast enough that mining doesn't feel like a chore, like it can with a bigger ship. It's the ship that made mining fun for me.

I chose Krait over Python mainly because of the fighter bay and better pitch rate. Mining in the open has its surprises. And being able to drop that fighter and do a permanent boost to or get away from a fight you cant afford, feels so much better. And the cockpit of the Krait Mk 2 is amazing. There is very little danger mining/hauling in solo.
So yes the Python is a good ship. But after 3 good mining runs. You can buy other great specialized ships.

  • @Fabio_5oares
    @Fabio_5oares 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    1. Combat: Krait's ONLY real advantage was not mentioned in the video: the ability to carry fighters. I can't understand why Python doesn't have it. But if you consider that a ship is not always just for combat, Python is more suitable for those who also carry out trade missions and get pirates out of the way.
    2. Trade: As I said above, Python is the ideal ship to carry out trade missions, both to transport and to protect cargo. An Anaconda also fits in here, however she needs a large platform and misses greats opportunities in outposts. Not to mention the cost of the ship and its modules.
    3. This makes the Python at least top 3 for both categories COMBINED. Maybe top 1. That makes it the kind of ship everyone needs, even for who can have lots of ships on dock.
