Your problem was picking the Crusader. It sacrifices the advantages of both the Chally and the Chieftan so it can have an unnecessary fighter bay. Fortunately, I think they all use the same size parts so switching shouldn't be too much of an inconvenience if you choose to do that.
Own most ships in the game, a few of number of them all engineered. But this, this is easily my favorite combat ship in the game. Just fyi, I do not like the Dropship at all and was surprised how poor it was. The Assault ship is fairly nice though.
It's worth a go - especially with a handful of overcharged multicannons underpinning the loadout with one corrosive and in my case incendiary for the rest of them - it absolutely shreds

Gunship is good at Spire sites. Also its a ship waiting for a particular type of ground attack mission. I have used it as an Apache attack helicopter 🚁. Popping up from below the horizon to take out ground weapons and also sometimes scavs if fitted with advanced size 1 missile launchers. As all the weapons are on the bottom, it's also very good for mine laying. Which is rather handy for mat collecting at planetary sites with limpets. Still waiting for the ground missions where it can be used for ground suppression.
TBH that should be the Dropship role, so it's finally viable at SOMETHING lol. And the name - dropship, so at least you'll be dropping something, instead of credits on basically the equivalent of a black hole financially. I know I can just buy an Assault Ship and be done with it, but I can't shake the feeling the Dropship was meant to be a lot more than it is for both the price and the corner it's trying to fill. Keep it bulky and slow, give it marginally better agility, let it at least be capable of somewhat fighting back against combat dedicated vessels, or being good at planetary assaults like it was originally supposed to. I think the Gunship has filled the role of a Type 10 in the medium slots. It's an extremely heavy, very durable brawler ship with an SLF guarding it against more agile threats. It's got the overwhelming frontal firepower, the sheer resilience and the lumbering nature. It's cornered a perfect market, for people like me who are too stubborn to pretend to be ace pilots and instead want to get the job done by any means.
It's a fun ship with a SLF. Mine is called DFMF Bengal. Because it has all the Dhaka, Dhaka, Dhaka! It is quite a fun ship to fly. Just runs out of ammo a little too quickly.
That's part of the reason that I've got three beams mounted on mine along with the multicannons - even when the multis run dry, there's still plenty of butt-whupping to do if the hull is still intact 😁
While it's really satisfying as a dakka boat, it can make an effective disco barge if you like lasers. I built both and I still can't make up my mind. Ammunition independence vs dakkadakkadakka.
Sounds like the best use for it - if it's a fight anywhere that's a significant distance away, I've been using my Viper 4 to get there and unload the opening volleys then transporting my Gunship over to take over once it arrives
I kinda find it to be like a type 10, with its class leading firepower, pretty slow speed but surprising manoeuvrability with a little skill, and am absurd amount of armour.
Honestly, I bought one just for the fact it has 4 medium hardpoints which I could slot packhounds into. 2 Small Thermal Vent 1 Large Thermal Shock beam laser, 4 packhounds. Not the most effective build I'll admit, but fun
It has the capacitor and power plant to use pre-engineered guardian plasma chargers which are the best weapons for PVE believe it or not. It was also very good at killing orthrus until the Python Mk II came along. One gunship farmed 5 billion for me on titan orthrus on first three titans. I now farm orthus using P II at alerts. P II has replaced a lot of ships. T8 will replace many more
To this day I haven't decided on a hardpoint configuration. Right now it's 3 beams and 4 rails and it does ok. Frags are next, all of them. But it doesnt feel fast enough, though I suppose we'll see. Looks too good to leave it in storage for long
I love my Gunship, run mine with 4 rails (either short or long range with super pen) and 6 torps with reverb. Nothing is funnier then getting pulled by a cocky big ship with Prismatics and hitting them with the 1 2 of reverb the generator then hit the power plant till it dies. Even with combat fit I’m getting 22ly with a scoop (running shieldless).
I have to contend with you on one point. We are English my fellow countryman. We don't give "the" finger. We give both barrels. Two fingers, Sir, if you please.
It's unfortunate that the federation medium ships are all slow, heavy, and have poor shields. They're not impossible to use, especially with their good vectoring, but they're so niche and almost exclusively PvE only, and not Thargoid PvE either, due to their slow speed and mediocre hard point count. One wonders how the federation military keeps functioning when this is what their combat vessels are like.
@@APS_Inc I was only saying because you said "the federation mediums" of which there are only three lol. But it has 4 guns, so you can still use all 4 AX hard points. It's actually my favorite ship tbh, and I use it for AX
There is nothing more satisfying than putting nothing but multi cannons on this thing and just going to town on the nearest pirate
I fully engineered an Alliance Crusader to experience combat superiority and I was pining for this ship every minute I was flying that Lakon.

There's a commentator I follow that refers to war as "diplomacy by other means". I think that fits the Gunship.
That sounds like something The Fat Electrician would come out with - but yes, absolutely one for the Gunship
I love this ship and its NOT ugly, its gorgeous! When im flying it, im in the pipe, five by five and delivering wrath in the form of bullets

Thank you for making ED videos including role-playing, though the ship is quite an old design.
Could never get it to work for me, but this review makes me want to re-think that!

Its also my go-to ship, totally agree when called the "catharsis ship"
Can't wait to hear one on the Phantom or the type-9!

These are great ideas! Love the idea of using it to suppress air defenses, and is never considered using it in an AX capacity.

All multicannon build, very satisfying 😊
100% - although the ammo running out was an issue for me, hence a few beams on there as well to spread the load

Love that ship. Mine is named, Hammer of Mars
The meanest of doorstops. I use mine as a short range PvE brawler.

ive ended up using this ship for alot of my thargoid combat, its good for the titan runs and pretty good at killing the interceptors too
Try out a FGS equipped with all shock cannons. It's hilarious fun if not terribly low on ammo.

Two fingers indeed, my mistake entirely - will remember that when I come to the Federal Corvette 😉

The assault ship isn't slow, and is as maneuverable as the chieftain.

Maybe maximum dakka. but never ENOUGH dakka. no such thing as Enuff Dakka.
