- SCALEMODELMEDIC IS BACK. Part 1 is here, Part 2 is in progress right now. I needed a quick and relatively easy project to get me back into doing videos for myself... and this is it. A budget kit instead of an expensive Finemolds offering, some basic techniques, then a repaint and some weathering.
Once this one is out the way I have a few other projects to share with you, but first I really wanna do part 2.
Look for me on facebook. Search "SCALEMODELMEDIC" and hit LIKE! I love chatting to people on there.
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You make some of the best model making vid on TH-cam it's great to have you back!!
I built this model to give as a gift to my nephew. I wish this guy was around when I did it, because his ideas, and methods are great! Good job so far, and I really look forward to the next video.
Such an awesome response from you guys, can't thank you enough. I guess I'd best just make sure part 2 is worth tuning in for!
Nice to see you back again. In just one video I learned something new to help my projects.
I just back into models and I am so unbelievably happy you are back.
good to see you back...look forward to seeing more of your work
Welcome back. I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Can't wait for more.
Thank you Jon, glad to have you back...
Decent tutorials from Brits are few and far between. Glad to see you back. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Great to see you back looking forward to seeing your videos over the coming months
Welcome back. Glad to see new videos from you.
Thank you for a wonderful video and option of model set for my brothers birthday! This really helped!
Helipilot27 did an extreme build of the Falcon, with fibre optics and tons of weathering. He did go overboard, but his was the cutaway version. I love seeing different people building similar kits and seeing what types of tricks I can pick up.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. You're doing a fantastic job. Can't wait for Part 2. I have the Imperial Cruiser from Revell which is a "proper" kit, which I've been building with one of my lads over the past 2 years on/off. Good tips on the lighting.
Great to see you back again.
Great video and glad to see you're back in the saddle making videos!
Nice! Well done on that dish, hell of improvement and yes a nice touch had to be done.
Can't wait for the outcome, looks really nice already.
Nice.....looking good. Good to have you back

Good to have you back.
Good on you! Glad you're back!
Thanks Tom, bet my awful wiring gives you chills huh !
ScaleModelMedic
Not at all! It harkens me back to my first days. You are more brave than I was for my first attempt -a single red LED in the robot Maximllian's head.
Let me know if I can ever help with ideas, techniques or supplies!
Definitely. Welcome back, mate.
Glad to see your back, big fan of your work and tutorials.
Shaun
Glad you're back!
(I must admit I didn't "discover" your vids until late last year so I hadn't really been missing you. As much as I dig your vids I'll bet your longer lived fans have been anxiously awaiting your triumphant return.) Cheers!
Back with a bang! Great video, awesome to see you making new stuff!

Glad to see new content! I've used a lot of your tips in the past and have come to rely upon them as a point of reference. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Welcome back! Now you are back, can't wait for more :-)
great to have u back medic :)
cant wait to se how this goes :P
I soooo missed you saying "Sanding Sponge". Good to see you back.
Hahaha thanks I like that one. Is it the accent or just the choice if words?
ScaleModelMedic The accent. But really it is nice to have you back. I also hope you might do a video about aircraft canopies one day.
ScaleModelMedic
For me it's the accent for sure! Because you are one of the few english men that speak english exactly like in our "english lessons school book!
I understand every single word you say and that make me very happy!
Actually I'm italian.
Hell yeah! Haha, it's about time. Glad to have you back, sir.
Great to see you back :) ! In the nicest possible way, I hadn't realised you'd been away - I just kept trawling through your vids & enjoying them :D ! They've been a really useful tool in my attempts to gain new skills (weathering for the most part) and techniques! All I can say now is roll on part 2 :D :D !!!!
John, so very good to see you back!!!!
I have gotten back into modeling after a very, very long absence and have been surfing the net, looking for tips, advice and tutorials, trying to get back up to speed. The one thing I do appreciate about your videos, aside from your obvious talent, is your presentation. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
BTW - good work on the Humbrol videos.
Yaaaaaaay your back....today has just gotten better
Really great work, glad to see you. My boy has this kit waiting to do, so hopefully this will inspire him.
At Last Jon, you're back! Great restart vid mate, looking forward to plenty more :)
Very nicely done! In addition to your excellent model work, you've given me some great editing ideas to help improve my videos as well.
Great to have you back lad! Can't wait to see this project finished now, might have to give this one a go myself! Take care mate :)
I have this kit, many thanks for the tips :)
Really enjoyed your video, keep it up
Awesome Job!!
Good job on upgrading this kit. Sigh, Maplins.
awesome work
Welcome back!
wow. I think I still have that model lying around somewhere.
Welcome back Jon! - Have you seen the fine molds 1/144 Falcon? A lot cheaper and a great looking kit.
Watched part 3 first and now starting part 1. Love what I've seen so far:D
Liked the bit about the model kit costing more than a car.
My last car cost $350 us. lol
Of course, the car didn't run when I got it, and I'm having to somewhat re-assemble a fair portion of it myself...
But hey, that model doesn't fly, and I'd have to build it myself too:P
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome.
love the comment about the price and the pics of the cars haha ;)
Woohoo! Welcome back! =)
Happy you are back :D! sorry im late
You should build the Bandai one. Its a good price and has excellent details.
Nice challenge.
Welcome back Jon, looks like your throwing yourself in at the deep end with this Falcon kit. It is a nice kit but does have its faults the main one for me it the side panels that fit between the upper and lower hull pieces, as there far to wide, the Studio model has very thin sides. But other than that is ok. Interesting to see you putting lights in it as it's something I'd like to do but have very little clue how to. I do watch Boyd over at Trekworks for lighting tips.
Looking forward to part 2 and Welcome back again.
Andy.
Modelmantom is a lighting wizard too, for me its a dark art and I'm useless at it. The kits rough I'll say that, but at less than a tenth of the cost of the finemolds I'll take it!
ScaleModelMedic Look at the bright side, you're keeping the lighting relatively simple and at least you didn't fry any circuit boards like I did in my 1/350 Enterprise model. As for the Revell kit, it can be made to look like a great model with some work. And with its price point, if you mess up you aren't going to lose any hair either.
those xr3i's were good looking cars,
woah, 0 dislikes, ur that amazing!!! :) keep up the good work
Good to see your back, do you happen to make the humbrol channel as well?
You could have trimmed the LEDs with the razor saw instead of removing the inner wall.
An added advantage is extra diffusion from the cut edge.
Awesome :)
Hi, great vid first of all. Would you mind telling me where you purchased the coated wire? I'm just about to start the mpc model kit. So very looking forward to spending some serious time making it all it can be
First off thanks for these videos they have inspired me to get back into modeling. I have not used Styrene sheet much, how did you go about removing center area of the A frame. did you also use the Razor saw? Thanks Again.
£419.99?! What a worth!
all black wiring, brave indeed!
LOL! Brave? No, stupid, yes! But like I said when I started I knew nothing of electronics and I now know very little. It was fun, I'd do it again. I also need to learn to solder well.
soldering is easy. just go and solder loads of useless stuff before you stab your iron into the plastic of a kit
i spoiled a star trek voyager that way. ended up with a big old phaser score down the back!!
Beautiful job on the Falcon. Urgent question: I recently purchased the FineMolds 1/72 Falcon online- but the scammers who sold it did not include the bottom half of the Falcon! ( They gave me duplicate top halves instead.) Now I know why it was so cheap ($125) Wondering (hoping)
I can do some surgery and use the MPC bottom half and somehow graft / sculpt/ merge it onto the FineMolds top half. Possible?! Your opinion please. Thank you!
Bit of a tough one, I've never seen either kit in the flesh so I don't know what the part makeup is like however the overhang on the top and bottom plates of the falcon do provide a natural place to perform such a graft if you were going to do it, it just depends whether either kit has a full side wall you can use. This is one you would need to really assess in person with both kits out on the bench.
Best part of the video comes in at about 6:18.
Can i ask where you got that small double edged razor saw? It looks wonderfully helpful!
JoyousOblivion Pssst. www.micromark.com/SearchResult.aspx?deptIdFilter=0&searchPhrase=Ultra+Fine+Saw+Blade
Pah...£420! Where's ya commitment ;)
Where did you get the plastic coated wire? Is it just from a coat-hanger?
what size styrene strips did you use? great vid by the way, got my falcon co ing next week, cant wait after following this.
they're about 2.5mm thick from evergreen. part 3 is being filmed already, for anyone not following the Facebook page
I'm sorry if I missed it, but did you ever measure the length to confirm the scale? Is it actually 1:72?
Is there a tool I can use to smooth out brush marks a after the paint has dried
?
Where you get the colour ? ;)
Where did you get your reference pictures from?
Sanding Sponge :DD
wow your a cool dude
Wow, how old are you??? Thank you, thank you...
Now, I don't have to justify to anybody, my age after watching your videos...
Much appreciated, because I love the Millenium Falcon and Star Wars...
I feel like, I now fit in... More videos, please...
I'm so glad I've found your channel as the tutorials are very professionally filmed & narrated. Now I'm subscribed I'm looking forward to future videos.
