Hopefully you will be happy to know that 6+ years later people are still coming here to check this before building the model as it's one of best ones to be found on here :) Thanks man, appreciate the vid as well as your knowledge and skills
Thank you so much for this comment, this is really nice to read. I enjoyed doing this falcon but I've lost my appetite for star wars models, I'm glad it stands as a useful reference. My youngest son broke the model itself but I still have the majority of it here 😔
Sir, your videos are some of the very best for showing various modeling techniques. Thank you very much for taking the time to share with others. The model is looking great.
Bro, thanks very much for posting this. You have cracked the code on achieving the look with oil paints, so this film is one long Eureka moment for me.
I subscribed because i don't want to miss part 4. (Hopefully soon) Your videos are awesome! Easy to understand, straight to the point, excellent craftsmanship. Keep it up!
WOW!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!! for the first time I understood how to apply washes!!!!! a million thanks!!!! your channel is great btw! :) and congrats for the falcon!
Thank Christ you're back!!! Dude I have watched each of your videos approx 90 times each... Thankjs for new stuff...Sci-fi at that- I have gone in that direction as well- a break from AC/Tanks.
welcome home Jon! excellent vid and weathering mate. your vids are so easy to follow and understand. really looking forward to all your future vids. cheers mate
Totally awesome tutorial videos! I really appreciate the clear precise explanations given... Especially since I'm working on this very model as a xmas gift to my cousin... Too bad I won't get the rest of the tips before then i guess...I'll try my best & hopefully will come out with a decent result (this is the first model I've started this century! Got quite rusty in the process) thanks to all your tips! hugs & kisses to your family!
YES! PART 3! Thanks so much for uploading this one dude - been following this series with great interest! I'm going to be tackling my first model build in a long time very soon which will be go up on my Channel as a sort of build diary, but the Millennium Falcon is one that I will be doing at some point (I really want the Bandai kit!). Cheers for this man, it's looking awesome :D
Great stuff, I'm going to be using mig oils, I managed to get hold of that elusive Starship Filth. I will be using it on a Bandai model. I have ok success with rattle cans as I don't have an airbrush.
Brilliant work. I'm going to go see about some Oils to throw into my paint kit. Some good tips on the weathering. I use mostly acrylics so it's hard to get the same sort of effect as you show. I was wondering what everyone was using, it would never had occurred to m to use oils. Thanks! :)
Scalemodelmedic Any news on the final Falcon video arriving please. Really enjoyed watching the process in the other 3 videos. Will be great to see the finished item.
Fantastic video on the Falcon, you're the guy that's going to make me buy it as I've not made a model since my teens. I cant find the final vid though showing the lights working as that is what I want to do as well?
It's funny, because looking at this (scale model), i'm thinking 'wait, they did a big one for the new movie' did they have a guy with a giant brush tweaking colors making streaks??'. I hope they release a documentary on making the 1/1 model.
The techniques that you show here are excellent. I learned quite a bit in a very short time from watching your paint technique and also from the oils you suggested. Thank you. How do you ge tthe oils to dry more quickly after you gave painted the model? how long do they take to dry if left alone?
Hello ScaleModelMedic, would there be a way you could list in your (maybe) description all the colors you used in the model, so that we could replicate the effects, and even shop for them. For Example myself, I am on a tight budget and very new to modeling, leave alone airbrushing, and I would kill myself if I ruin an awesome model such as the Falcon. Thanks in advance Also big thanks for being so patient, answering questions, and showing detailed work. Most people here on youtube only want to show off and not really teach you on how to do it. Thanks a million
I am current building the studio scale falcon by DeAgostini. I have just come from a shop in merry hill where I have seen some of your amazing model. One of the staff members recommended I have a look at your videos. I have taken a lot of helpful tips. I am wondering how I can display the finished model when it is complete. They recommended magnets. Would this be the best way.
Search for scalemodelmedic on Facebook and like my page, I'm always posting! in the downtime between videos I had to move house and build a new modelling workshop, so for a while it looked more like a DIY page than a modelling one, but I've started posting little tutorials and updates now that I'm modelling again.
Sure, a lot of the weathering is acrylic in this series. All of the stuff with the washes is acrylic based. Check out my video called "CHERNOBYL Rust" for using acrylic instead of oil paint to do streaking.
@@ScaleModelMedic thanks! Wil have a look. But i see you use oil based for the weathering. Acrylic dry faster in my experience (for so far i have any 🤣) And when i try to 'blend' it al turns brownish
Hi I've always found tamiya stuff to be a little bit on the "hot" side, it might melt your underlying paint layers, but I cant be sure you would need to do some tests first. If they're not too hot they would probably work in a similar fashion.
Nice job. What happened to the cockpitwindows though, did you spraypaint over them? They're like gone while that is one of the key details? Plus, for a budget model as you say, you spent more money on paint than the model is worth and it still doesn't look like the beige/lightbrown-matte finish the original has? It looks good but too gunmetal-ish. You made it look like a transformer or Battlestar Galactica-model, it doesn't look Star Wars at all so whats the point of these referencepics if they don't look like the moviemodel? I've seen cheaper and better weathering finishes, no offense. And I'm not even a professional modelbuilder, I just like to build and paint kits to make them look as close to the moviemodel as possible while not spending too much unnecessary time and money on them.
I understand. Did you apply cockpitdetails? I only cut out the door in the backplate of it, when I'm done weathering it and want to place some lights in it, it should give more detail. I made sure I didn't glue anything so I can take it apart again as I please to finish it properly. Man, I've picked up the modelkithobby again recently and it's getting addictive. I spent alot of time and money on RC planes and robots but during the winter, it;'s great to build and paint kits.
BTW that blue engine backplate it has, they really should've put more effort into it. I paid 70 euros for it while it's not that big. The X-wing model of this series is like gigantic and has a very good factory look already. I paid 35 bucks for it, it's almost 45 cms which would be about 18 or 19 inches, I think. Revell really stepped up their game since the 80s as most of their kits back then had bad finish and warping.
Sony Kroket I did not add any more detail inside. you see it in part 4 which is online. also the lighting in part 4 is a bit better maybe you will think better of the colour. you paid a lot more than me for this kit! maybe it isn't so common now but it was really cheap before.
ScaleModelMedic I understand and you're right. Do you have the X-wing from the same line from Revell? Also a snapkit? It's fucking awesome and huge with great detail, perfect for a good weathering job.. It seems most Revellproducts are cheaper for europeans as it's a german company.
Hopefully you will be happy to know that 6+ years later people are still coming here to check this before building the model as it's one of best ones to be found on here :)

@@ScaleModelMedic Most welcome 🤜🤛 I'm building mine for my partner as she's a big star wars nerd and has the perfect space in her office.

Been seriously looking forward to Part 3 of this series! Glad to see you posting again.
Great to see Part 3.....finally!!! I've just got myself this kit so your tutorials are invaluable. Marvellous job. Roll on Part 4.
Thanks I really enjoyed watching this video and that is the best streaking I have seen on the falcon in a youtube vid.
your weathering techniques are just awesome!
You did a very good job. Really enjoyed the videos

Nice video mate, makes me want to start building my MF. Have been holding off till I have a lot of time to put into it.

Might try this on Deagostini Millennium Falcon once I've received enough pieces to finish off the top or bottom.

The model is a complete turd but your paint job has really polished it revell just can't do falcons only the small ones. Great job
Panel line weathering is heavy handed and extremely unrealistic.
Whereas every thing else about the millennium falcon is realistic
