That's thing a lot of people don't realize. Thorfinn was stunted as a child. Even Einar says he's just an overgrow baby. His developent as a person stopped when he decided to follow Askeladd. He didn't learn life skills, basic knowledge, how to form and maintain relationships or create his own system of values. After the Prologue he had to start over from scratch

Nobody had been kind to him in Askeladd’s group. But now it’s so nice to see him meet kind people like Einar and Sverri. Thorfinn’s character development became anticlimactic but it was so well-written that I just had to see it through even though people were calling it Farmland saga 😂

The message that “Thou shalt not kill” was especially challenging for people to abide by during the Middle Ages. There have always been people in history arguing that their killings and Wars were justified by God. They never were and they never will be.

I'm sure that the bible played a part in Thorfinns development, but it wasn't as big as Askelads death, or his dear friend giving him advice. The "do good, be forgiving, love everything" is a common thing actually, it doesn't appear only in christianity... After all, I do not agree with any Religion, I try my best to spread the love for my own reasons
Where one chapter of the manga ends up being 5 episodes. Slow introduction but I get the build up. I hope the animated ending of this season doesn't disappoint. Blessings to those who had to wait one episode each week.

Askeladd being killed right in front of him basically killed his 'badass' nature, which was nothing but blind rage, vengeance and anger. Once Thorfinn was stripped away from what he used to identify with, it's obvious that he'd become 'soft' and 'non-badass'.
Thorfinn was a soft, immature, weak child in season 1. He only masked that with anger. Post-episode 4 of Season 2 he is a much stronger person than he was in season 1. Being a violent man-child doesn't make you a strong person
