Vehicle Window Tint Levels Compared - 50, 35, 20 and 5 Percent

  • Steve Gilboy of TintworX explains the different levels of tinting available for vehicles.
    5% - Limo or Privacy Film for total privacy in the back of your vehicle.
    20% - Similar to factory-fitted tinted windows.
    35% - Light shade
    50% - The lightest shade we fit.
    The "TORBAY TINT"
    -------------------------------
    This is a combination of 5% film on the side windows and 20% film on the rear windows that gives great visibility at night or when you are reversing, but still provides the privacy you want. Because the light is brought down inside by the 5% on the sides the rear windows appear the same from the outside, giving great continuity across the vehicle.

All the cars I've done have been 20% and I like it but I wish more manufactures would do like a 28-30-ish %... be slightly darker than 35 but not as dark as 20. I'm just not a fan of really dark tint on "white cars". I don't care so much about privacy. I feel when it comes to white paint, tint around 30-35% is perfect. Pro tip, when you get pulled over by the police, roll both front windows down all tge way and refuse to roll them up for the officer. They cannot legally make you roll the window up. If they break the law and threaten to arrest you, roll it up for them and then get the ticket thrown out in court for a violation of the 5th amendment.

    Quick question the uk law says front windows should let in 70% of the light. So for example if your car lets in 90% of the light in as standard ( factory glass tint). What tint percentage would you be able to put on to make it darker but still above the 70% threshold

    • @tintworxtorquay9331
      @tintworxtorquay9331  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So if your cars front windows allows 90% through, which is a very light base tint built into the glass . Then an 80% tint would put you at the limit, but that can only be confirmed with a light meter.
      Hope that makes sense.
      We do have a 70% for cars such as MG's that don't have any tint at all.

      @tintworxtorquay9331  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our sunstrips are made from length of 5% privacy film, they're used to stop the glare of the sun blinding the driver and front passenger. We measure trim, shape the sunstrips on the outside of the windscreen, then cut to the finished profile. The inside of the windscreen is thoroughly cleaned before the strip is transferred to its final position. The size is dependent on the drivers requirements, some windscreens have an AS1 line on one side showing the lowest point tint should be fitted this, can be between 125mm and 425mm depending on how tall your windscreen glass is. We've put a picture looking at a sunstrip from the inside on our website.

There will always be vehicles that need tinting. We have tinted a couple of mini diggers with a 35% to their rear and side windows, this really seems to help the operators and protects them from the UV Ray Damage. By adding charcoal particles (Carbon), over say dye, to achieve ‘the look’ you desire … you can achieve up to 3% more heat rejection.

      35% is a light privacy tint. if need maximum view with ultraviolet protection that's a good choice. 20% for the rear half is a good choice for medium privacy and style.
      Tinting front windows are dependent on the law where you live. You'll need to do a little research there.

      according to UK law you must allow 70% of visible light to pass through the glass. please bare in mind that 9 out of 10 vehicles already have a base tint added at the factory. So adding additional shading onto this will probably take you past he legal limit.

    You CANNOT tint as dark as you like for the front windows in New York State ! ! ! !
    Section 375 (12-a) of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law does not allow a windshield or front side windows that are dark. The windshield and front side windows CANNOT BLOCK MORE THAN 30% OF THE LIGHT. You will NOT pass the safety inspection ! ! !

      Hello, we are based in the UK so we are unaware of the legislation outside of the Uk .
      We always recommend to check local laws before tinting, any decent tinting workshops will most likely advise you upon the matter.
      Have a great day, TintworX team.

    First of all, tinted windows are simply not necessary on cars & trucks, save security vehicles & transports. Having tinted windows just enables motorists the opportunity to possibly engage in clandestine behavior. Also in some cases in parking lots, when next to a vehicle with tinted windows and trying to back out, it's makes safely seeing oncoming traffic more of a challenge. Tinted windows are especially hazardous for law enforcement, especially when they approach a vehicle during an investigation. A Police Officer should be able to CLEARLY inside a vehicle. Bottomline, they should be illegal. If people are caught with them, they should be required by law to replace the glass at their own expense and pay a hefty fine.

      "Tinted windows are especially hazardous for law enforcement, especially when they approach a vehicle" -
      This is absolutely NO REASON to tell me what to do with my personal property and violate my civic and Constitutional protected rights.. Tinted windows are not dangerous. Tinted windows have NEVER killed a LEO.
      If you're a LEO and you cant control your "fear" over something simple as tinted windows, then maybe you're not the type of person that should be carrying a gun and badge. That type of LEO shoots black people just because they are black.
