    I tinted my Tesla when I first got it and went ceramic with the best heat rejection. A year later I finally decided to do my windshield too. I went with as clear as possible with highest heat rejection. It has a slight blue look to it but has made such a big difference for keeping my cabin cool. In KY apparently it's legal to tint the front windshield. Tint laws are all state specific.

  • @Geckogold
    @Geckogold 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I did 70% ceramic tint on the windshield, two back windows, and the rear window on my Model Y, and 35% on the two front windows. It doesn't match, but I'm fine with that, because I wanted the heat rejection more than the privacy. Plus it's much less likely to attract the attention of a cop. I also work 2nd shift, and drive through some dark rural roads at night, so too dark of a tint would've made it really hard to see.
    So far it's been awesome. I've driven it through the western parts of the US, and never felt the heat coming in like it did before I got the ceramic tint.

    I used 70% Prime XR+ on my rear Model Y windows & rear hatch, along with the windshield, and then 30% Prime XR+ on the front windows & sunroof. My 30% front windows now matches the 'darkness' of the rear windows, which is what I was going for since I don't like the look of super dark tint and you can't really make the rear Model Y windows lighter. The XR+ really makes a huge difference in So Cal sunny weather.

    • @bladerealm124
      @bladerealm124 ปีที่แล้ว

      My tint shop recommended 20% in front and 70% in back to match. Do you feel like your front windows could be darker or are they a perfect match at 30% combined with the 70% rear and factory rear privacy glass?

    • @PHDTS
      @PHDTS ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bladerealm124 The roof and windshield lets a lot of light into the Model Y. Most people don't tint their roof and then use 20% tint on the front windows to match the rear factory tint. Also if you have white interior, the darker tint doesn't "look as dark" on the car. I have black interior so tinting my roof darker and also my windshield (mainly for heat rejection) made my entire interior darker. Going with the lighter (30%) front windows actually matches the rear windows perfectly, and 20% on my car would've been way too dark.

However, I am taking notice of other Teslas on the road with them tinted. When I return to my car on a warm day and touch the monitor it is very hot and I live in Orange County, CA. I know AZ is another level of heat as I’ve been there many times. AZ must be the best place to test those window tints for coolness. I love the color of the Pink Pig! I am glad you’re keeping it. Getting a 70% tint on my windshield in 2018 was the best change I ever made to my Tesla. The glass was chipped last year and we haven't gotten it retinted yet. Hate it every time I get in the car. The difference in just sitting in the driver seat feeling the sun is VERY noticeable.
      I'm picking up a 2024 in a month or two, and found a place who carries Kavaca IR film. When I get my new car tinted, we're definitely also going to tint the glass we had replaced in the 2018 as well.

    On my black sapphire on black Dakota leather BMW 335, the car would get unbearably hot in the sun. Seat would burn you if you were wearing shorts. Used Panorama Hilites ceramic tint 35 on everything but the windshield and car would be just a bit toasty on a super hot sunny day after being parked in the sun for 7 hours. After tinting the windshield (I forget the number but it was obviously lighter than the side windows) the car was actually cool after being in the sun. Ceramic tint brand counts but picking the right installer is like 70% the battle. I paid top dollar for my installer who cut the film by hand and actually cut the side windows all the way to the bleeding edge (I have a coupe with frameless doors) which I’ve never seen any other installer able to replicate. Absolutely worth spending the money on ceramic tint and a top notch install.

I couldn’t feel the sun on my left shoulder. It was noticeable enough that I took note even with other highlights like Ludacris mode were at my fingertips for the first time. … then I bought my Model 3 and found out that coating isn’t present on the Gen. 2 platform.

    • @JV-py3lg
      @JV-py3lg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re wrong Gjeebs about the rear not having no heat rejection on the glass

    • @yellowflash649
      @yellowflash649 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JV-py3lg he’s not wrong it’s just colored glass with no heat rejection. The darker the color natural it’ll block more than the front which isn’t colored. If you sit in the back yes you’ll get more comfort than the front that’s not tinted. Ceramic actually filters IR to reduce heat. IR can naturally be tinted by color dyes but not to the extent ceramic does.

    • @JV-py3lg
      @JV-py3lg 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yellowflash649 you might want to fact check yourself with the colored glass statement. They may not be on the same level as ceramic tint, but they actually do a decent job at heat rejection. Also I didn’t say ceramic didn’t do anything as far as heat rejection. My 2 front windows are ceramic tinted along with the windshield.

    OK, recently you wrapped the roof in white and cut out the sun. Heat wise was that much better than the Expel HR film on the top? I would expect some, but was it a significant improvement on the heat for the AC? In S FL so we get the sun and heat all day! Haven't got my Model Y coming Jan. Thanks for the videos and keep them coming.

  • @CliffordMiemban
    @CliffordMiemban ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Fact:
    I own 2 Tesla (X & S), I’m telling y’all to do NOT put tint on the SUNROOF, as it is already have very effective UV PROTECTION (and if those super hot temperature will be trap in it, then there’s a big possibility it will crack), as one of the known brand (XPEL) here in Austin already found out that only 3-4 BTU go pass that glass, period,
    The only glass y’all need to have a top of the line ceramic tint is the windshield (70.% - 80%), then 30% - 50% on all the windows glass, based on your state and what you’re comfortable with, especially on driving at night.
    Darker tint doesn’t mean it has better UV protection, as for years tint quality evolved that it doesn’t matter if it is light or very dark, as they have the same UV protection from sun.
    Please people, wake up!
    Most new Tesla owners has been duped by those tint shops who know nothing about it (or just taking advantage of those new Tesla owner).
    Have a great day to y’all!
