#tradingcards #SportsCards #cardcollecting
BGS have confirmed our suspicions with the Red Michael Jordan 'PMG" and stated that it is altered and mislabeled. We discuss what went wrong, next steps for the buyer and what this news means for collectors who use/own BGS slabs and are customers of eBay.

Out of the three major grading companies (CGC and PSA), BGS is the only one with no security features like hologram and UV print to hinder counterfeiting. Also, BGS got no warranty and take no responsibility at all if they grade a fake or altered card unlike PSA and CGC. And BGS will do nothing but say empty words again in this case as they did when fake BGS slabs were discovered in November 2020.
Sadly, you are very right
BGS have let their market position and reputation slip so much that their slabs are good for one thing only - being cracked out and reholdered in a PSA slab.
Times are tough and some people have to save for ages to get their singles and boxes. fakes should be treated as fraud. The problem is of course finding out where the card originated and tracking down the guys at the top.
BGS should have all the information, if the guy was up to no good they should spot it rather quickly
@@DanTheCardMan2 Good to hear.
Need a lawsuit. Nothing will happen without penalties
Yep. This hobby is so messed up in so many ways. It's a real travesty for all the good folks out there. No one in an influential position will clean it up, though. Business as usual. There's a chance that if this gets out of hand that sports cards will become a meme for fraud. Just sad really.
@@1stBowman good people leave the hobby and the bad only get away with more scams. These scammers have made careers in the hobby. Jesse Craig scammed 1000s of collectors and he is seen as a trust source on the Jordan Star sale. Prizm Gawd moved stolen cards. And he has an annual card show now.
I want lawsuits and penalties.
@@1stBowman its already out of hand and at all levels from manufacturing all the way to auction houses and everything in between
If they try and go mechanical error route it’s so wrong.
Let’s see how it plays out
It's, very quickly, reached a point for me that I really don't care what a slab says on it anymore. These companies regularly cannot ID fake cards, fake autographs, real autographs, hand out '10' grades to obviously miscut or terribly centered cards. It's all just a game to skim money from the people. The crazy part is, the OLDER slabs seem far less likely to have problems, now, especially if you know what to look for.
People just need to get back to seeing grading for what it is, an opinion, nothing more.
I like the way the buyer has handled this so far. Would like to see a deep dive into that sellers history. He had another listing sold over a year ago titled ''2021 Rare Jordan test/promo PMG Refractor" $1200... But I cant view the old listing.
Yep. I saw that one too. I wonder if it can be seen on terapeak?
Seems the seller is up to some hanky panky. He apparently first sent the card to a consignor to sell and they rejected it. Then decided to sell it himself on eBay.
Correct, I covered that in one of the updates and broke that DC cancelled it cause they thought the card looked suspicious
@@DanTheCardMan2 Ah yes, I knew I heard that from you. Great coverage of this story, Dan.
Keep them in line brother!
Huge mistake, but with no coverage for items like this hopefully the buyer gets taken care of. With that price tag and listing the card and accepting the money knowing it wasn’t real, very scummy!!
You hit the nail on the head Dan... with the concern on much lowered valued cards. That's actually the first thing I thought of.
They’re needing it in hand is extremely obvious and important. They’re NOT going to do it online or from pictures.
The mistake was a mistake - but if they’re needing to be positive in the end, of course they need the card in person with them … that isn’t AT ALL suspicious… it would be way more suspicious if they didn’t need to see it.
Yes I understand wanting it in hand to do due diligence. My point was that if they already knew the answer and where the issue happened, they should’ve communicated to buyer beforehand and not played dumb. They were transparent with everything else, except this. Seems odd
Looking forward to the interview after I meet with ebay and bgs 👍
Can't wait!
My question for Beckett would be why slab the card to begin with...is an altered card designed to fool people the type of thing you want your company name on?
Yep, that’s something I’ve talked about before. It’s weird how companies are willing to put their names on this stuff. Creates far too much confusion
@@DanTheCardMan2 simple one word greed
They want to get paid for spending time on the card.
@@MrSubfeed which they should have never graded
I just picked up card collecting and instantly fell in love with the hobby but I didn't realize how many fake cards are in circulation. Learning about cards is time consuming enough, and now on top of that, I need to learn how to identify fakes? I don't want to be spending thousands of dollars just to find out half my cards are fake. Sad and unfortunate, but I think it's time for me to find a new hobby.
To be honest, you'll likely go about collecting for many years without coming across something yourself. Your best bet is to just be active in the community, use resources to help you stay across things and rely on the hobby for guidance when you have questions.
@@DanTheCardMan2 Appreciate the response and the advice, thank you brother!
No minimum industry regulations….no independent oversight…no problems. BGS should buy the slab for same price.
If they don't pay him back then you get a lawyer to deal with this or even worse let the FBI know and have them shake some trees as this is more serious than everyone thinks. Someone needs to pay for this and legal legislation needs to make rules on this so people who do this stuff can be properly held accountable.
I’m 99.99% confident that eBay will facilitate the refund. The sellers funds are already on hold
Hope from a great outcome
😂😂 was the original seller up to hanky panky???😂😂 he obviously colored in a base card with the hope of getting it slabbed!!! And, it worked. Beckett needs to do better, period!!!
😅😅
Do Beckett employees drive to work with grocery bags on their heads for fear of being recognized by the general public?
That’s a trick question. I actually don’t think BGS have employees 😂
How do you get that wrong... That is a HUGE miss.
But if they knew it was colored in why was it even slabbed lol they shoulda just sent it back right
its altered not fake?
This seems like it's had 17 videos made about it. Crime of the century but no one actually gets in any type of trouble. Stupid.
Wanted to keep everyone informed. It’s an important one and given the companies involved one that needs as many eyes as possible.
@@DanTheCardMan2 yeah no doubt but why aren't these people ever prosecuted Daniel??
謝謝!
Thank you my friend
I would love to see this card myself inhand for what I'm getting is Beckett should have caught this !
DC sports canceled their consignment because they didn’t like it in hand. Not sure how BGS made this mistake
Who is the ebay seller?
I shared it in a previous video on the topic.
Deadset scammer mate, don't sugar coat it ;)
Gotta get all the facts first but can’t blame someone for feeling this way
