Would make sure that Jordan Rookie is really authentic. I was scanning fakes and I can 1000% say psa is grading fake 1984 star cards obviously not knowing how to tell a fake

I’m old enough to remember a time in the 80’s and 90’s when the star card was always considered his true rookie and always worth more than the fleer card.
Exactly
Yep. And I the basis for the entire debate is ridiculous.
Me too…it’s his 1st RC and IMO should be worth more. I remember mid 90’s it was upwards of $10k, compared to 6-7k for the Fleer. I think George Mikan was most valuable at the time
Yep, and then they started calling them fakes. I sold my Gatorade and miller lite Jordan star cards a couple of years ago. Upgraded!
After I stopped collecting in 1991, I was surprised to find out 20+ years later that the fleer card was worth more and barely any talk about the star card.
I get nervous spending $20 on a card.
Me too! Just paid into a break around that price and my team didn’t get pulled and I feel sick to my stomach…..and then there are prices like Geoff talks about 😂 but also 🤮
@@craighmandy1982 I very rarely buy into breaks for that reason.
Crazy money. I’ve been collecting cards my entire life (60)and I think my most expensive card is worth$1500. These guys are on a completely different planet.
@@theirishhammer9108 Yeah it’s crazy money. I mean I don’t begrudge people who can afford to do this. If I had a card worth thousands that I ripped out of a pack would I want to sell it for top dollar? Absolutely. Would I buy a top dollar card worth thousands? No sir!😂
Cause your broke af
“Graded goes for $2100/$2000 so I’d be willing to do the raw card for $1850”
thank you for your willingness
Geoff's enthusiasm and energy are very real, without being loud and in your face overbearing. He treats kids very well and respectful. His knowledge of all cards is incredible. I have a nice little personal collection. I only wish I had been more invested in the hobby when I was younger. Great stuff here, keep up the great work.
Fast forward as of today Dave was 101% corrected.
I think it's a good investment. Rookie card or not doesn't matter. It's about rarity.
Look at Babe Ruth. Most collectors would look to the Goudey or M101 cards, but the most valuable Ruth card is the 1914 Baltimore News. None of those are rookie cards. The latter is a minor league card.
As much as I loved seeing that ‘84 Star Jordan card, I’m more impressed with the Mbappe Kaboom card. Both are great purchase’s.
Sir, you definitely put your money where your mouth is. Congratulations on your purchase. As a collector, it is a wonderful addition, as an investment I would not have paid $100k for any modern PSA8 card, however when you have people paying over $100k and subsequently $175k for the same 2021 Mac Jones rookie card (ungraded nonetheless), it makes this purchase a hell of a bargain.
he lost like 1/3 of what he paid in couple of months. also, it seems the Star rookie is NOT worth more OR equal the 86 fleer. he also said card prices would go up but they went down in general
I am super pumped that PSA is grading Star cards now. Too much fear surrounding these cards and they are so important to the hobby because they bridge a very big gap with nothing else being produced during the time. The fakes and the continuation prints are known and identifying them can be done, the hobby needs to embrace these cards! I hope it happens.
I agree
Well said. I'm a major Star collector and couldn't have said it better myself. We've been doing it for a long time, so of course the grading companies can do it, and I'm glad PSA started again.
With their experience I think it would be best to grade with BGS until PSA sees more of them 💯
weoot 🎉
I think it was a good buy. You now own 2 fleers and 1 star. Anyone who doesn't think that's cool as heck is just jealous that they can't afford it. I don't any big cards but I still love the hobby and it's awesome to have the chance to collect vicariously through you. Thanks for everything Geoff. Love you brother
Love Geoff’s continued enthusiasm, sure hope it is authentic and real.
Personally I will never forget the first time seeing these cards in baseball card magazine. They showed the Jordans. I was in complete awe even then of these star cards.
Love seeing you doing deals with people on the floor. Must be nuts to try to do the things you have objectives for personally and for SCI all while moving with the masses. Tremendous patience.
The Star 101 Jordan card still sealed in the Bulls team bag, is by far the rarest of the rare, and will definitely end up being worth the most money.
Heritage auction currently has a complete 84 star company set with 266 cards autographed including the Jordan. You might want to check it out it's only at 17,000 currently
His wife wondering why they are missing 100k 😂😂😂
I've been saying that the Star was going to blow up at some point. I think the 86 Fleer is overvalued, but the Star will overtake it once people get them on PSA slabs. It is actually rare. The market for these is going to explode.
Personally would much rather have a 10 86 fleer than an 8 star. The star has the sketchy history, and frankly, it has ZERO aesthetic. While the fleer is pretty damn majestic.
@@willzsportscards That’s fair, but the Star is much much more rare. We got dumb logomans selling for millions. Aesthetically, 86 Fleer no question.
@@tdfowler79 and the true first.
The photo on Fleer is iconic and that counts to collectors. The Star pic is goofy and awkward almost as if features a different player. Everyone has an opinion tho 🤷
Sheeesh - wild pick up & congrats!
I’ve been waiting and checking in here since yesterday’s video for a new one lol keep them coming it’s as close as I may ever get to going
Geoff, keep it up man, I love the trades that you do with the kids.
You are a good dude, man. I love LOVE seeing u help out kids in the hobby. My son got taken advantage of with one of his Pokémon cards by an adult collector in our neighborhood. I would have much preferred his first trading experience been with someone like u. Thanks for everything u do for the hobby. Seriously
Surprised Geoff's still buying Michael Jordan cards after what happened last time. Purchased two Fleer 86 PSA 10's for $1.6m, which are now worth $364k in total.
you dont take a loss until you sell, though.
Yep, ONLY a paper loss
A loss in market value is still a loss, regardless of if it's realized yet. If you bought '87 Fleer Kevin Seitzer cards for $10 each in 1990 (but still have them), would you really feel like that loss doesn't exist yet? But yeah, if you don't sell something, you still have the chance to gain value back.
@@sbeni2 or Shane Abner, Gregg Jeffries, or 500 other can’t miss prospects
@@sbeni2 what about the Ben McDonald 91-92 topps 1st round draft pick card? Lol I remember then how hype it was and it's prob worth.05 now lol
The BGS 9 is109k ! Pop 72 it’s dropped 40 k in price from last sale! I don’t think this was a good deal on Geoffs part! To each there own!
@Warren Early adopters are good! But not in this case! It will take some time to figure what is happening with the true rookie card designation the Fleer 86 or the star card! Best to pullback let this settle in! Because with the economy there only so much money& this cards pitting against each other will drive the price down immensely! The fleer 86 was 775 k a year & half ago now 180 k! The 86 fleer PSA 10 is Pop 320 it’s really rare! Not to mention 1000”s of other grades! At this time it’s not good investment! No!
@Warren Sorry Pop 320 it’s really not rare!
@@scottysteadman5063 these were less manufactured than the fleer plus psa 8 is pop 4
@@playboicarti1338 Not for long when they crack the BGS to PSA! Lol 😆!
@@scottysteadman5063 320 is not rare for a player people don't care about for a goat RC that's super rare considering everybody and there momma wants one! Its supply AND demand...not just supply.
Totally agree with Nat. All of us have always looked at the xrc as a true rookie. Check out some of the other Star card sets. Some awesome Jordan's in those sets. The Last 11 ROY MJ. And the Crunch N Munch Jordan. Some sweet cards👍
Thanks for showing us this great show!
Smart! It will be worth 500K in a few years
If I was going after a star Jordan RC I'd try to get BGS 9 since they have a better grading on this card. Due to so many counterfeits out there it's best to wait if PSA can grade them actually spot on.
Jeff seems like a genuinely nice guy. Can't wait for the next national to get to chat it up with him.
All those Probsteins are fake or will eventually be shill bid! He has no shame.
How could they be fake if they were graded?
Congrats Geoff, I was curious what your budget was for National! This answers my question , really great find
I have owned a Jordan star xrc bgs, but when you own it the counterfeit noise messes with you for sure. That's still why the price is hard to justify at times.
I seen alot of Jordan Fleer rookies at the National this year. Iconic just like the Mantle 52 Topps
Love seeing you doing your part to get kids back into the hobby. Love all your videos
Regardless if it was a good deal or not spending 100k on a card must fun !!
I look through my cards daily and have fun ! I'm at $1500 ( about 20 or so cards )
I thought the guy said that the '84 Star Jordan PSA 8 would be rarer (not more valuable) that the '86 Fleer Jordan in PSA 10. He would be right on that. There will never be a 10 and probably only a handful of nines at best. And with only 3,000 legitimate cards printed and a bunch of those in BGS slabs, does not leave many for PSA to grade as high as an 8.
Dropping 100k no problem. God damn goals dude
I feel like this is the 51 bowman vs 52 topps debate. No one questions which is the true rookie but the value is based on the market demand
So cool seeing someone do something they love. Dude obviously found his passion.
Love seeing young kids collecting again.
There are more Jordan Stars cards than just the 101. With PSA grading Stars cards, the rest of the Jordan Stars will surely increase in value. I especially like the Gatorade one
What I love about sports card investor is that he films all the good details and the cards,❤🎉😊
That mbappe rc kaboom was a massive pickup wow you got a sweet deal on that one.
Shout out to Reaves flashing bands in the background at 9mins LOL
Geoff, NO !!!, that's crazy. Non-license companies should not be allowed.
That’s a lot better than buying a rookie quarterback card for 100k , nice pick up brother
So great how you make sure the kids have a great time… great job and thanks for all you do for the hobby!😁👍
where are you getting all this money?
You can't go wrong with the 1986 Fleer Jordan in PSA 10.
Hi Thanks for your great videos !!!
I will like to ask if there is any app, guide, book or any reference to know the average price of any card ?
Thanks
New fan/subscriber of the channel. Live the content. Have tons of raw cards from 1975-2006....haven't bought anything in a long time, but you inspired me to make a small purchase from Midwest Cards. Looking forward to openning some F1 packs in a couple days!!! Would love to see content on the grading process as I'd like to learn more about that.
How much is it now? I think you should do a video on "then and now".
great video and purchase!!
Super cool of you to make those deals with the young kids in the hobby. Thank you for all you do.
Thanks for the vid love your vids
U r so cool to kids that's awesome showing kids respect like that is the best way to pass on the love of collecting cards
Always great content
Love the 84 Star purchase. Grew up on Beckett and that has always been MJ’s true rookie, IMHO
Man, first 16k and now 100k, you’re killing me😆
Geoff, I rarely slam anyone online but I wouldn't do business with Probstein. Horrible experience that cost my son and I thousands of dollars. Reported him to eBay. Nothing.
Still enjoying your reports.
Someone else told me to stay away from Probstein. What kind of issue did you have? I've bought a couple cards through him without issue, but now I'm worried. Anything I should look out for?
1986 Fleer MJ is the 1952 Mickey Mantle Topps. Where as, the 1984 Star is the 1951 Mickey Mantle Bowman. Obviously, both are very nice cards but, only one, is king.
Now compare the photos between Fleer and Star which is more iconic? I'm taking Fleer with him dunking
It's been a year... what the verdict? Is it worth more? Or not
congrats on the purchase and kudos for your love of the hobby and cultivating the future collectors.
We had this argument since school. I agree XRC is first card. So how not true RC?
The star card is more rare, but the fleer card is more iconic and in demand.
Nate is correct in that Beckrtt Monthly (The Bible back in the day) listed the 84 Star MJ as an XRC, which even by today's standard (look at the XRCs by Select) is a true RC. With that said, It is going to take quite a bit of time for it to overtake the Fleer MJ in notoriety and price.
BUT, what it does do, especially with PSA grading them now, is open up a fierce discussion and buzz for the card over the next few years, which will undoubtedly drive the prices way up short term.
Investors and Collectors love a "new" hot card to speculate on, and wether the Star card will be more significant or not in 10 years over tge Fleer card, one thing for certain is that the attention and speulation on the Star cards NOW, will drive the value up crazily over the next couple years, and one can make a pretty sizable profit buyung these now with a potential flip in 1-2 years.
Love the shoes at 4:30! 😍
Plot twist, the camera man was the 100k card seller wooooo
Didn't Star get caught printing more copies of those cards years later? How many more did they make?
Sasha aint got shit on jeff
Jeff is the new king of cards
Geoff taking so many Ls recently
I agree Srar Jordan is more rare, and even back then you couldn't even find the Star sets. But the 86 Fleer is more demand. Mackey Manrle has a 51 Bowman, but which is the most coveted Mantle?
Very Gary V feel about this ENTIRE psa push / guy selling it . Super limited client base (easy to manipulate) , super limited sales on the charts , too polarising in terms of the company / the fakes / the hsn drama . This is Terrific for all of the guys “holding” but none of this in real . This is just excessive money make a crypto to the moon purchase on a 1c spec buy .
in 1990 my local sports card store had the 1984 Star Bulls team set for $500
Great content keep it coming!
Of course it will be worth more than the Fleer in high grades. The scarcity difference is so massive! We're talking about around 1k total graded in all conditions until now. And if there were all these fakes out there which no one could tell then obviously the BGS pop would be much higher already. The Fleer is around 30k pop overall, huge difference in rarity. And in the high grades you will probably see only double digit pops in PSA 8 or higher, where a PSA 10 Fleer is 300-400% more in pop even in a 10. The Star was an official licensed Pro card from Jordan's actual rookie year, (and the only one) True RC period. The amount of lies that have been spread about that 84' #101 are crazy, even on this video that one guy on a podcast is saying they printed more a few years later with the same printer but so what. NOT true. The only fake star cards that were reprinted look totally different, colors and all, the "shop at home" cards. The "type 2s" were cards from a different year's set and supposed to be disposed of but a rouge employee stole them, again they were from the next year after this Jordan rookie 1984 #101. None of those things involve this #101 card. Educate yourself on it, the ceiling for this card is so high. There is no non-modern card you can bet on that has anywhere near this upside potential from where it is now.
Best comment on this video and totally accurate
RIGHT ON! those 2 idiots at CS/cardshop---they look to be out of business soon! If you don't know---don't talk!
I used to go to card shows back at malls in the 90’s and $20 would go so far back then!
Now, $20 doesn’t even cover one single pack!
You see the greed seeping from every pour on Probstein...
Shhhheeeeesh , thats a hella handshake lol
Everybody knows that when something new comes out, it’s always way overpaid for. Well most people know that. You’ll see lots more 8s, 9s and 10s. There’s no way somebody is going to pay 1 mil based on that 8 being 100k. SCN was spot on. Most real Jordan collectors don’t even care for either. The only ones that do are investors. Reminds me of when you traded that pop 1 10/10 Jordan Auto.
I forgot about that sale. Crazy
No if ands or buts Star ✨✨✨✨ 101 will blow Fleer out of the water. Star will be the next 52 Mantle guaranteed!!!
Nice video
I would love to have either Jordan rookie graded psa doesn’t even matter the grade they’re just the grail of grails
"hey - can I have my card back?" "
"what card?" - SCI
Thank you for taking care of the kids.
Nice 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I wonder if he marked his words. I’m thinking his prediction was slightly off
by a year.
Those obsidian colorblasts are pretty sweet
Was this whole thing a $100,000 market mover commercial?
I won't go as far to say that the 1984 Star PSA 8 will be at 86 Fleer PSA 10 value... BUT... Not only did you buy the dip on Jordan in general, but you bought into one of the first PSA graded 84 Star Jordan RC's. That's one heck of a good investment 🔥
This is a great piece of content, keep up the great work SCI
Awesome purchase, great to see the hobby go strength to strength.
I've always wanted a Michael Jordan signature.. Do you recommend a certain card?
Wish I had that kind of money lol
To much heat 🔥🔥🔥🔥 in this show. 10/10
That’s a really cool acquisition. And I couldn’t agree more that these are the real rookie cards of these players.
Cool video. I have a question. Do you know anything about 2021 panini chronicles Football error cards. Just pulled a Mac Jones clear vision that had the emblem for Stars and stripes no RC stamp and named on card is Derek Carr Raiders . Any information would be appreciated.
That's a great purchase. 👍 congrats!!!
This will def be worth a lot more than 100k by next year
Honestly, IMO this is the most exciting video I have seen you put out….AWESOMENESS 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
What's that card worth Now? July 27 2023 ..Star Jordan ...I honestly remember having that as a 10 yr old but baseball was more popular than...ugh
