  • I’ve owned my Mustang Mach-E for a month now, and as great as it is, I’ve found a few ‘quirks’ that are just so frustrating! 😡 Let me know if you agree-have you experienced any of these problems, or would this annoy you as much as it bothers me?!? Drop a comment below and let me know!👇🏼

    Ford must have listened because I got my Mach E about 3 weeks after this video and there is now no lag on the screen. Zero. None. Bupkis. As to opening the trunk it's a kick toward the bumper not a slide left/right. But you'd have to read the manual to know that.

    I experienced the issue on Friday when the owner of the ford dealership took the Mach-E key with her to Bozeman, which is about 3 1/2 hours away. We tried to set my phone up as a key and it would NOT work!! It said my phone is incompatible and I ended up taking an Ecoboost Mustang with me instead (video to come). Keep up the awesome work! Love your videos!

    THANK YOU! What a great honest video... I'm sure you like many features of this car, but most of what you showed us are real turn-offs, I wish reviewers out there could show that kind of stuff more often!
    Few people have corrected the kicking gesture, ok, but I think it wouldn't be too much to ask to calibrate the sensors to detect a side by side motion?
    The sound when it backs out, I think I could live with, and I really hope they'll fix the key issue with a software update (I think they only give one key fob too, so good luck in the meantime!).
    But the lagginess is horrible, WOW 😱!!

    The kick sensor on most if not all cars that have them are calibrated for a Forward/Back In/out movement rather than a side to side movement. Side to side like you are doing will generally not trigger as you are finding. Forward/back should have 100% success.

    This really shows the the real software know hows from each brand. Most likely ford is using third party to develop these software and connected ecosystem but it really makes a difference if your organization is built up from day one to support those kinda employee roles and infrastructure it demands.
    Most people think that it would be easy to just provide a software update to fix any issues but it literally needs a whole pipeline of things to support those features. Even the companies who specifically make Android phones, can't even provide regular updates.

  • @stevemit2858
    @stevemit2858 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    I just read the MME manual regarding opening the tailgate (trunk) with your foot, it says: Move your foot, in a single-kick motion, without pausing, under and away from the rear bumper detection area....Avoid the following actions when using the hands-free opening feature:
    • Making physical contact with the bumper.
    • Holding your foot under the bumper.
    • Sweeping your foot from side to side, or kicking at an odd angle.

    • @AndrewSienx
      @AndrewSienx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'm a UX designer and I would be fired for such a moronic design. The user is always right. Most of the users will: make physical contact with the bumper when kicking (and will try to avoid this move again, as sheens are painy); will hold foot under the bumper as it is logical behavior - to allow "stupid computer to see my leg"; will sweep the foot as it is a safer and more natural movement (sheens). Jeeez...
      Generally this kicking thing is a design of the past. Now, it should recognize through the rear camera (when the car is open) that person stands in front of it, who is the person, and then open :))). I suppose it will happen in Tesla in a year or two when they introduce face recognition for other features.
      BTW - how it works with the tow hook? Kick the hook? Cool.

    I'd just like to say that it's because of people like you that really bring attention to the issues with EVs and I think it's awesome. All of these automakers are pushing EVs out and aren't realizing how important and integrated software has to be in these types of vehicles. I really hope that you create a video showcasing the issues you have with charging stations (EVgo, Electrify America, etc.) so that maybe they will actually do something about the biggest hinderance with electric vehicles (that is not a Tesla): charging it. The average person won't know how to deal with these issues unless they have the patience to research and learn about them. Keep the videos coming!

    The points you bring up are legitimate issues! It's not just one minor niggle but a pile of annoyances that affect the overall enjoyment of ownership. Hi Shannon,
    I would like to comment on the Kicksensor feature, I have a mach-e and had no issues so far activating the tail gate. The funny portion of your video is when you are trying to do a kick gesture, but the action you are doing is really not how it is supposed to be. You got to swing in your leg in the sensor area(center of the rear bumper) in a way that it is entering and leaving the sensor zone to do a valid kick gesture. If you try and remain your foot in the zone like how you are doing is never gonna give you a satisfactory result.
    Try moving your leg in/out or swing your leg into the center area of rear bumper and out of the area completely and wait for it to open. You will start loving the feature when you know how to activate it right.
    Good luck and take care.
    Hoping for a follow up video from you 🙂

      I drove a MachE and while the software was needing some work, I never experienced the lag shown in this video, so it could be that the radio was doing so sort of update. My Sync 3 never lags except for after a firmware update, probably while it decompresses map files or indexes something. Great video! Love hearing about some of the details you don’t get until you live with it. Some of these wouldn’t show up on a test drive.
    One note: you are mixing up kWh (energy) and kW (power aka the rate energy is transferred). A battery holds energy in kilowatt-hours and charges at a rate in kIlowatts. Your Mach-e came with 250 kilowatt-hours of energy, which it can transfer to the battery at a rate of up to 150 kilowatts.
    A lot of people mix this up, or incorrectly say kilowatts-per-hour, and it confuses those trying to understand charging and charger power. Apologies if you already know this. Hopefully it helps viewers.

    I prefer a keyfob. We got 2 with the Model X and bought one for the Model 3 after the phone only would not work without opening the app about 1 in 10 times. The fob works 100% of the time. But, from what I have read the fob is the least of the Mustang's worries. It does not seem to play well with a number of charging networks which would be a killer for me.

    I have the same issues. PAAK is not ready for prime time. When the car does not recognize the phone, starting the car seems to work better than unlock, (and it is a bit more convenient since you don't have to hold the button for three seconds). Regarding the key not being detected, putting the phone on the charge pad seems to force it to be recognized. When kick opening the trunk, stand closer to the car and get a bit further under the vehicle.

    However, it looks like your screen is extremely slow and unresponsive. My car system is also slow for first 10 seconds, but after that, it's very responsive. Android auto also works automatically. Backup camera works every time too. Again, I think you should check your car with dealer.
    One more thing. Foot thing for the trunk... I learned my trick and the sensor likes fast swipe. Lol it's stupid but you have to swipe pretty fast. Lol and it will only work if ur car is already unlocked or your phone works as a key.

    I'm 2 wks into my 1st EV -the MME. Love the car. I'm coming from a low-tech gas car to the Mach E. I don't have the same frustration with 'phone as key' because it's all so new, but I get it. If I were used to that I'd be frustrated too. I owned a '66 Mustang, one of my all-time favorite cars. I didn't even know about the Mach-E until ironically, after the 1st day of looking at cars (gas, and hybrids) one pulled up alongside us. A Mustang SUV that appeared to be a Hybrid ?!?! For me, the fact that it was part of the Mustang Family is what got me interested in the car in the 1st place. I wasn't looking for an EV. I am a musician and being able to haul equipment is a must. I was worried about range, but after researching EV's and the MME I decided to dive in. We'll see how it all works out, so far, so good, but the concerns, pet peeves, etc. are some of mine as well. Driving performance is great, no disappointment whatsoever. I feel that Ford will fix a lot of these bugs. Thanks for the vid, Shannon.

    Just brought mine 9 days ago and I'm having same issues. I also having problem with the delay of streaming and flickering while playing music from TH-cam on my Android phone. This doesn't happened all the time though and it drives me insane. Even when connected the charger cable still didn't help. BUT, I would still buy this Mach-e again because of its beautiful design and cooler looking inside out than the model Y. My thinking is Ford will update their software and most or all of these issues will be resolved, but you can never changed the model Y to look as good as the Mach-e

  • @Tarten21
    @Tarten21 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think you should just place your foot under the sensor area not wipe it from side to side more like forward and backward. I would not be sure if it supports the mach e yet but you can get a scanner module and a diagnostic software programme called forscan for Fords and it allows you to control things like the closing beeps etc that have been set at the factory granted it would be nice to be able to do this in the car but you can alter settings and make the car better.

      @@EVandChill I think people are unbothered because they've never had the convenience of phone as a key. With our Tesla we never even owned a fob. The phone as a key is expected to work (though it sometimes doesn't as I previously noted). It is embarrassing and inconvenient when it doesn't. I am so used to PAAK that it was a requirement for my next car. My MachE should be arriving this week. Really hope PAAK works.

    I just got one and the screen works well for me. I guess they must have fixed that. The lift gate works 100% of the time for me. As others said, just kick straight under the bumper in the middle. You can turn off the lock beep in the settings. It beeps because the car obviously makes no engine noises to alert people the car is on. To me, the only issues you mentioned that are valid is the "phone as a key" function and the lift gate from inside the car. I wouldn't be mad at them for releasing the car with the PAAK being so buggy if they gave you two fobs instead of just one. Ford needs to issue another fob to every owner or fix the issue.

  • @keithshayle123

    As was suggested, try a kicking motion, however i think they are a little temperamental on all cars. I have a Maserati and it takes a couple of attempts, my dealer said it's an Italian car so that's what you can expect!
    I would try another phone to see if it can communicate any better. Finally if Sirius is a Satellite based system perhaps the GPS receiver isn't working as it should. Here in the UK and Europe we have DAB Digital radio which can be a bit patchy In certain locations.
    Great video though, and I think they are all valid issues that your dealer should look at.

    You can’t change channels on your Satellite Radio because you are in a garage and the signal is getting blocked by the building. That’s nothing to do with your car. You would likely experience that problem in any other vehicle.

    • @EVandChill
      @EVandChill  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Christopher James, I thought I might get some flax on that 😂 true-it probably wasn’t the best demonstration of it not working, and I probably could have elaborated more about it. I ended up filming in my garage because it was so windy outside, it was compromising the quality of my video.
      BUT the regardless of being in the garage, driving down the highway, or parked under the open sky, the satellite radio still will take MINUTES connect sometimes, and sometimes it won’t pick up at all 😕

    also note that the middle seat in the back is super hard and uncomfortable and that if you have 3 people in the back seats the people on the left and right side will bump their elbow into the side of the car and that is uncomfortable and annoying.
    also the suspension of the car is a bit weird in my opinion. on my test drive the car was constantly rolling/jumping. not so noticable in the front, but it will be annoying for the poeple in the back espessially on longer trips.

    I have had fords since 2013 with the kick to open feature. It did take a few times before I figured out how to kick the right way. I agree with Shannon, it should not be that difficult to work. My guess with gas cars is to keep someone from burning themselves from the tailpipes, with electric cars its not an issue. They probably just felt consistency would help those who are coming from gas engiens. A note of interest, with my Edge ST it hardly ever worked, something with the Tow package is my opinion. The trunk on my MME does have a tendency to start to open and then stops at times before opening, it just releases then stops. This is frustrating since I hadn't experienced this in any of my other Ford vehicles. I am like Shannon, I really love the car, but there are some of these querks which are very frustrating to even a Tech savvy person like myself. The infotainment center is really quick to respond but does have its moments. Reminded me of my 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid, it also would just go black. I would have to turn off the car open the door and then close it to get it to "reboot". Ford will get the software and glitches fixed. I am assuming that is why they are moving to the android platform for their future vehicles since it seems to be more forgiving and customizable. I bought my car a month ago and the dealer did a major upgrade on my car before I took it home. I think that has saved me some of the grief that you have experienced.

      DayMajor, thanks for watching! In all honesty, the vehicle was/is so new, that most Ford dealers do not know it very well. We were actually showing the Ford salesmen features that they weren’t honed in on so the 2FA was never explained to us. I get it, a lot of people like having 2FA for access inside as well as starting the car but that should be an option to turn on or off. I would rather know that if I have the code to get inside without key fob or phone, that I can just take off without having to enter another code to start it.
