    I am a Ford salesman and also a Mach E Premium AWD owner. Love my car. I have of the same gripes that you do. P-A-K just is not reliable enough to leave my key fob at home. Yes, I always want to be first in line at a red light. It is just too much fun! I do plan on going with the GT next time around. But I for sure am not going back to an ICE vehicle.

    Great video! A few comments to your points: (1) get to know your dealer (agree!): we actually ordered from our dealer so we know the costs up front and got it all printed out so there won't be any 'new' costs. (2) dealers don't know the Mach-E (agree!): we have a great dealer, but I know more about it than them. They still don't even have the basics covered in the booklet...erg. (3) get 240v installed in your home (agree!): it's actually getting installed tomorrow and we're going to use a wifi charger so that we can keep the Ford charger in the car for portable needs. Plus we'll get a rebate from our utility company for the wifi charger! -- Thanks again for your videos! They have helped us out so much.

      @@ryansgr8 A “Level 2 WiFi charger” is EV lingo for a charger that provides 240v (32-48 amps) and charge sessions can be controlled over a WiFi network. This functionality is encouraged by your utility company because while they want you to use their electricity, they also want you to charge during off-peak hours. In some states even, utility companies are offering rebates to their customers if your Level 2 charger has the ability to be scheduled (wireless), through your smartphone app, and you commit to recharging your EV during the late evening hours.
      There are many Level 2 chargers on the market. I went with wallbox and this unit can provide up to 40A.

    We bought a Mach E earlier in the year, produced in March I think. Unfortunately it met an early demise and was totaled. We got another one that was fresh Sept/Oct production last week, I'm guessing there was some sort of midyear production changeover in June as the ops manual was also updated and re-released for post June production vehicles. Many of the problems we experienced in our first Mach-E have been addressed. The screen is no longer laggy with much less bugs, the PAAK works WAYYYY better and it came with two key Fobs instead of one. The useless dividers in the frunk are gone and it can be opened by the Ford Pass App now. The sensitivity for keeping your eyes on the road during lane assist is way more sensitive. I got the recall letter for our first Mach-E to get the windshield and roof rebonded about 2 days after it was totaled, however, I felt the bonded joints held up pretty good considering it was ran over by a train.... 🤣 All-in-All, it is the best vehicle we have ever owned and I have never been a big Ford fan before this. We're so impressed with the performance, practicality, and safety (we know this one from experience!), we've reserved a Lightning as well.

    I have had 0 issues with Phone as a Key, 0, I don’t want to jinx myself, but we have 3 phones with phone as a key. We don’t ever use the fobs, they (we received 2) are in a drawer (I hope they’re still there) and have taken our Mach-E on two road trips many miles and hours away from the Fobs. Again, never had an issue with unlocking the doors or starting the vehicle. I have a 2022 Premium with a built date of June 2022 (super fresh) and it’s got the latest updates with Blue Cruise and all.

    I love the phone as a key. I stopped carrying a wallet and it was just as easy not carrying a key fob. There have been a few times in 8 months of ownership that the PAAK has not worked. On these occasions I just use the key pad on the door and the backup passcode to start the car. However if I was road tripping I would take the key fob as a precaution. And yes, all vehicles should come with at least 2 sets of keys regardless of PAAK. I have a model 3 as well. No question the Mach e is my first choose.

    As far as doing a burn out, a Line Lock used to be the way to go without harming your brakes. This is a switch that will Lock the front brakes after you remove your foot from the brake peddle. Haven't used one in years ( Tires seem to be MUCH more expensive than when I was younger ), recently, some manufacturers have built this feature into the vehicle. Haven't used one in years, but, talk to a local speed shop to get information. Presumably, this would only work on 2 wheel drive vehicle. If front wheel drive, I guess you would lock the rear wheels. Funniest thing I ever saw was smoke coming from the front tires when an Oldsmobile Toronado was doing a burn out.

I would nice for you to summarize your SERVICE experience between your Tesla and Ford. I know you had issues with both vehicles, and I remember your all of the frustration you went through with multiple dealerships to get them resolved.

    I knew more than the salesman about the car. Of course I called ahead to see if they had them. Sure, they said, come on in. When I arrived, it was already pulled out for me. I got in and saw that it had over 2000 miles on it. The salesman then explained that this was their demo and that I would need to submit a factory order. The sales manager assured me it would arrive in a month or a month and a half. That was in April. Today is Oct 23 and I’m still waiting. Ford sent an email that it was built and and enroute and would arrive between Oct 8 and Oct 12. The next email said between Nov 2 and Nov 8. I’m guessing Nov 28 😡. Getting the tax credit this year is very important to me and I’m starting to sweat. Maybe I should have offered to accept delivery in Mexico.

    Very good points in a great video! Especially about getting a 240v / 50 amp outlet (or more for the upcoming Lightning) installed in the garage. My first three months were off 120v, and slow as molasses! Fortunately since I work from home it wasn't a problem, but there was some range anxiety after returning from a long trip. (Fortunately there's a CCS quick charger two miles away.) But after installing the new 240v circuit and a Wallbox PulsarPlus EVSE in the garage my Mach-E is always charged up and ready to go! I did end up installing a somewhat see-through roof sunshade from Tesmanian because our kids are pre-teens and they requested it before a road trip to Detroit. I will probably remove the shade for fall through spring (because suburban Cleveland winters are cloudy and dark! I want as much light as I can get inside!)
    Your points on phone as a key are spot-on! But I'm still a little surprised that it's still so crummy even after you had the dealer perform the PAAK update. I'm lazy and was just waiting for over-the-air / wi-fi update , but I was really hoping you were having better luck with it! I'm looking forward to trying BlueCruise (if they ever release it,) but the current adaptive cruise / lane keeping does a pretty good job on the highway already.

    I truly look forward to your videos. If you never do one on your M3, I probably won't care because I've seen at least a 100 videos on Teslas. Assuming you are going to make one, if it's as informative and entertaining as your other videos, I'll probably enjoy it.
    I used September to go on a long road trip in my Premium RWD MME. Started at home in San Jose CA and drove to Bonita CA. After our visit with family, we drove to Manchester Tennessee. I had a long race to do (123 miles of running) then drove back home to San Jose. Total miles added to the MME was a little over 5000. Charging was usually seamless but not always. However, the car is a great road trip car. We found that our stops were almost always the length of time we needed to be ready for the next part of the trip. Over the Labor Day Weekend, charging was free at the EA chargers. Nice.
    There were some bad things about the trip. One EA charger I counted on at an overnight stop was out of order. I had to sleep in the MME at a Level 2 charger (free) until there was enough battery to get us to the next EA installation. My wife stayed in a hotel. No EA chargers on US 40 in Oklahoma. Had to use Francis chargers. They worked...sort of. One was only a 50kw and another pair were difficult to use. In both cases I had to use their app and phone for help. If I'd had a 3 year old with me, I would have been very frustrated. But I'm an old retired person and it felt more like an adventure. I expect that the CCS chargers will get better with time. With all other electric vehicles using CCS, the system will have more money behind it than any single car company like Tesla. Reliability is where Tesla currently has the advantage.
    Keep making the videos.

      Great point. Any electric car is going to use substantially more energy to heat the cabin than to cool it down. There is no engine to pull the heat from so the heater needs extra energy. Rough estimate but I always plan to lose about 20% additional range in winter time due to using the heater. For AC, nothing substantial. Sure you will lose energy by having the AC on full blast but I would say it’s comparable to an ICE car.

    The laggy displays seem to be an issue with pretty much all the OEMs. Chip makers have been fairly vocal about how most OEMs are trying to order older chips instead of investing in newer, faster, and smaller chips.
    Obviously that doesn't make sense from the chip manufacturers point of view since that would involve investing more money to increase production of a product that is only used in this application at this point. Phones, laptops, desktops etc all want to use the fastest, most power chips. So if car makers were to cancel their orders in mass quantities they would be stuck with product they couldn't move. And before anyone tries to argue that they won't cut orders lets keep in mind it literally happened last year. And most car companies are guilty of it (pretty much the reason for the current chip shortage)

    🎯🎯🎯🎯 Charging at home is 4 times cheaper than at a Tesla supercharger. Why in the world would anybody want to get a Tesla ? Ford autonomous delivery vehicles will be hitting the streets next quarter delivering goods for Walmart. Then Ford's Robo Taxis hit the streets. And how many Ford cars will Domino's need to get the pizzas delivered? More than just a handful. Thanks for the video Shannon. ❤️

    • @davidswan482
      @davidswan482 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm confused. What makes you think you can't charge the Tesla at home as well? Superchargers are not the only way to charge Teslas. In fact the Tesla Model Y is cheaper to charge at home than the Mach-E, because it is more efficient. According to the EPA, the Model Y gets 120 MPGe, whereas the Mach-E gets 93 MPGe, which means the Tesla goes farther per kilowatt hour than the Ford. That's not saying the Mach-E isn't a great car. It is, but charging at home doesn't make it any greater than other EVs. They all can be charged at home.

    • @lenm2857
      @lenm2857 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidswan482 Yeah, definitely not 4 times cheaper :-). The Model Y is more efficient, but you can't use the EPA numbers as a comparison since Tesla decided to use the more "optimistic" EPA calculation. In real world driving the Mach-E typically beats it's EPA while the Model Y falls short. But since it's not quite as efficient as the Model Y, it will probably cost a few cents more per home charging session.

    • @jimcmf2
      @jimcmf2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidswan482 Exactly my point. Tesla fan boys and all these guys that work for Tesla and put hundreds of Tesla videos on TH-cam think that the best car has to be Tesla because they have a lot of chargers. How stupid is that? 95% of charging is done at home where it is really cheap to do, like the beautiful Shannon says. Charging outside of the home is way too expensive, and I can't understand why people do it unless they have no other option. Tesla needs a lot of chargers because their range is not what they say it is. BTW - Ford autonomous delivery vehicles hit the streets this coming quarter delivering goods for Walmart. It's a very exciting time for the autonomous world. Great job Ford!
