The Mach-E Buying Experience Is AWFUL!

  • Dealerships are the worst! Everyone knows that and everyone hates dealerships because they are incredibly stressful. The salesman is only your friend so they can make a buck, so essentially it's you against the dealer. Some manufacturers are allowing you to buy vehicles completely online which is such a relief! Other dealers are still making you go into the dealership to "buy" your car even though it can be done completely online. Ford is one of these! Watch now to see how frustrating it still is
    to buy the Mach-E even though the whole process can be done online.
    When will we ever stop going to dealerships to buy cars?!

    Hey All, I’m glad you like this video! I’m getting a lot of comments on Why I chose to buy the vehicle so here it goes. I love the car! HA. There are a lot of EVs out now that each have their own personality. Tesla goes with the simplistic approach, Audi E-Tron and Jaguar I-Pace are very luxurious, Rivian is outdoorsy and the Mach-E looks sporty but has practicality at a decent price point. With all these EVs there are very very little maintenance costs ($60 for 100k miles for the Mach-E) and they are the most reliable car in each brands lineup; so service most likely won’t be needed. I hate dealerships as much as the next and with an EV you’ll most likely say goodbye to the dealer for the life of the car.

    Also, just a reminder, if you reserved the Mach-E you won’t have the markup issues I had. Your reservation is at a “locked in” price. I didn’t want to wait for my reservation to arrive so I had to go through the dealership headache. But WELL worth it for the Mach-E! One day’s worth of headache at the dealership is well worth it to own an EV.

      Great to see additional EVs on the street. I have been watching Sandy Munro’s tear down of the Mach E, due to the the amount of hoses and clamps used in the different systems you might want to keep an eye on the garage floor for possible leaks.

      Warranty only covers manufacturer defects, poor workmanship or labor, and safety recalls.

Come up with a number in your head of what price you're willing to pay each month for any brand new car. Next, save all of your gas receipts for 1 month to find the true cost of gas you are buying per month. Add the number that you want to pay for your new car payment plus the cost of the gas that you are buying. I'm willing to bet that the total number is close to the cost of a new Tesla. My employer's office parking lot has free chargers for EV owners, so I don't even have to pay for charging. I see a lot of those free chargers in shopping mall parking lots too. No oil changes and rarely ever brake pads since regenerative braking slows the car most of the time. It's amazing and worth looking into. If you look at the total cost of the car, it can look expensive and overwhelming. But if you look at the cost per month, it looks more doable. Dreams do come true! Good luck!

Tesla is profitable, otherwise the S&P wouldn’t have accepted them. They could have huge profits but they are pouring money into new factories, autonomy, solar/battery, mining, battery manufacturing, etc. They are building more factory capacity than they have now, by far. An innovation focused company can decide whether money goes into profits to impress shareholders or into innovation. That’s why most big tech didn’t make profits for years.

    I've now gone through both ends of this spectrum; bought a new Chevy Bolt 1.5 years ago, and then just recently bought a Tesla. The difference between the two purchasing experiences is astounding.
    Luckily with the Chevy I didn't have quite as rough an experience as you with your Ford, though still painful. Sales reps knew virtually nothing about the car. I literally had to leave the dealership 3 times before finally getting my way. And yeah, the random hidden fees were ridiculous.
    There were a lot of fees I questioned, but my "lug nut story" was with a flashing brake light. They said the module was already installed on the car and I'd either have to pay the fee, or they could remove it the next day and I could come back. My response: "If I leave this dealership I'm not coming back - I'm not buying the car. So you can either waive the fee, remove the module right now, or lose the sale"... they waived the fee lol
    The Tesla experience on the other hand... Super easy to take care of ordering and paperwork in account. At pickup, only a couple docs to sign (mostly for my trade-in). And the rep spent a good 15 min walking me through everything and answering questions before I left.

      I'm excited to see what happens in the future, especially with all these EVs coming out, all these dealerships like Ford and GM will start moving to online sales because a personal dealership visit isn't needed anymore.

    Thanks for relating your experiences. Dealerships are the worst. Have had so many bad similar experiences. With Ford too. When we last bought a car from a Ford dealer, we were shopping around, and had a salesman get so angry for no reason he started throwing things on his desk and screaming at us. This was because we didn't want a trade offer on our current vehicle, so were coming back later in the week to buy. Dealerships need to go. Also: the reason the finance guy was so mad at you regarding the financing is they get commission on selling you financing. My guess is the commission is very low or non-existent for the new Ford Options plan. I don't know this for sure but would be willing to bet based on your experience.

    I feel your pain, I had some heartaches when I was searching for a Mach E. Some dealers had bogus fees like $400 tint and paint protection plans that I didn’t want would not take them off the price of the vehicle. I was lucky enough to find a dealer that had zero fees and bought the car at MSRP plus tax, tag and title. I’m like you , I felt like I did all the work but it saved me money in the long run. Hey All! Another comment I'm getting a lot is if this video pertains to reservation holders. NO, IT DOES NOT :) If you reserved the Mach-E, you are locked into that price and the dealership can't pull any "scams" on you. Your buying experience will have ZERO issues; when your Mach-E arrives, they'll just do the paperwork (10 minutes) and you'll be on your way. My experience was different because I was impatient. I was a reservation holder but didn't want to wait the 3 months to get the car delivered; mainly because my F-150 lease was up. So I went to local dealerships and found a Mach-E (I was SUPER lucky, this vehicles are rare to find). But because of my actions, the dealership had full control of the price and situation. This is the situation that my video expresses. Thanks again for all the comments and likes on this video! I'm glad I'm helping everyone out :)

    @matthewjohns7220 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I used to sell cars and now I am a car-hauler(trucker) that delivers cars to dealerships. Here are a couple rules:
    1. NEVER use dealer financing. It all goes through the same banks you can just call yourself. If your rate is let’s say 7% the dealer adds anywhere from 3-15% or more on top of that. That’s where dealerships make their money. Use your own credit union(I seriously hope you use a credit union instead of a bank). If your credit union says no to your loan, then you don’t need it.
    2. Salespeople don’t know anything about what they sell, and I can tell you from experience personality is everything, so salespeople really don’t need to know anything. They just want a paycheck(don’t we all?)
    3. We are currently in a seller’s market. Not a buyer’s market. The only way to change that currently is if everyone stops buying cars and walks everywhere
    4. Tesla by far has the best business model, especially with owning their own dealerships. This is why the salespeople at Tesla know what they are talking about. They work for the manufacture. With every other brand, salespeople work for the owner of the dealership. The only people that work for the manufactures are the reps that come around once a year to train salespeople in the features of the new products. The problem is every dealership has 1 or 2 salespeople that have all the customers. They don’t need to know the product because they already have all the repeat customers. Everyone else sticks around for a few months and then quits because selling cars really sucks. There is zero incentive for anybody to know their product in this business.
    5. Mach-E is a sweet car, but they are made in Hermisillo Mexico and Tesla made in the USA. I still like the Mach-E better though. As someone who inspects cars for damage at the factory, I can tell u Tesla’s fit & finish is terrible. However so are half of Ford’s factories too. Dearborn and Hermosillo are their best factories. Chicago is the worst factory of all car manufacturers in the world. I’ll shut up now.

    Ugh, sorry to hear about your experience. That does sound frustrating.
    My recent Mach E purchase that was completely painless. In fact, it was the fastest and easiest vehicle transaction I've had of the six cars I've ever purchased. I did put in an order for a Mach E in February after test driving one. My dealer was in contact with me the whole time whenever there was an update to the status, and then notified me when the car was delivered. Last week when I picked up my car, I was at the dealer for no more than two hours. At least one hour of that was used up by my contact who gave me a walk-through of the tech in the car so I could at least safely drive it home. Now, I'd watched a ton of videos about the car, so it was very familiar to me, but he did a great job filling in the details. The other hour was some waiting and the general contract signing. I did finance with a 36 month .9% plan, but no markup was even considered, and no pressure to get warranty whatsoever. I was completely surprised at how seamless it all was, and could not have been happier with the entire process.

The representative from Tesla didn't seem to have any issues handing me the key cards and let me take both vehicles on the road for an hour each. The following weekend I went to a different ford dealership, I figured maybe I'll have a better experience there. I was told to " wait, a sales person will be with you shortly". After waiting for about 25 minutes or so with no sale person in sight, I left went home and order a Tesla Model Y.

      I had the opposite experience. It was like pulling teeth to get a Model Y test drive. They kept cancelling because the car was unavailable or it was brought in to have issues fixed. Finally after 3 reschedules I was able to get a test drive. That's the video I posted. With Ford, I went to 3 dealerships, they handed me the keys and I took 2 hour test drives. All 3 dealers were super cool with me just taking it out without them going with. I went to 3 of them because I was so excited driving it, I felt weird going back to the dealer to ask for another go. Even if manufacturers did sell directly to the public there would still be sales people, delivery people, financing people, delivery centers, etc.

    Hello Get Energi, I wanted to give update on my experience with two dealerships... Not until your video did I realize how much trouble Ford and other legacy auto manufacturers are in due to, for one, their outdated dealership model. In a nut shell Ford and its dealers are taking FULL advantage of the $7500 tax credit, supply shortages, and demand for the Mach E. The dealer I leased my last two Explorers from told me with a smile, "we have the car you want, come sign the papers before it's gone, its $5,000 over sticker". The second dealer same deal, like the mafia "it's minimum $5,000 over sticker take it or leave it!"... These legacy manufactures/dealers are in such bad financial shape, that they must double down on their predatory practices (vicious cycle). I'm awake to them now and will not be a victim of. If Ford/Dealers were not trying to take advantage, under a lease/Options plan, they would be taking the $7500 off the top. IE $50,000 - $7500 lease based off $42,500.... Ford if you paying attention, when current lease is up, Tesla will be getting my business.... Once again great informational video, you saved me a lot of $$$$$.

      Yea my F150 lease was up and I had a bunch of equity so I bought it and sold it asap. I suggest staying away from the lease, you lose the $7500 credit because its not in your name. Ford does give you $2500 off MSRP but its not worth it. In Colorado I'm getting the $7500 federal plus $2500 from state. I'd suggest to do the Ford Options plan. Its a lease hybrid so you'll get the full tax credit but still have the same term contract. Mine's 48 months and I have a $20k "balloon" payment at the end. I can either give back the Mach-E or finance the $20k. This reassured me that if this was ever a lemon, I can just give it back with no strings attached. But if i continue to like it I can finance the last $20k. Plus Ford Options gives you a great interest rate! I did the math too, going Ford OPtions plan for 48 months then financing the $20k versus just financing for 6 years, it came out to within $500 so WELL worth it for me. I'm planning a video on this soon since Ford doesn't do a good job in explaining the Ford Options plan.

      @@Mrfall5038 I agree, also depends on the model you want. For my model, Extended Range, AWD, premium, With zero money down you'll be in the 700s with Ford Options or financing. But you'll get tax credit at the end of the year. Leasing will net you a lower monthly but I'm not exactly sure how much. Maybe 600s? Personally, I'm taking the higher monthly payment in the 700s, using the $10k tax credit at the end of the year to pay off a debt which will save me $200 a month. Yea the mach E is definitely all over the place when it comes to engineering compared to the Tesla model y. You can't put a bigger motor and say you have more range, everything is factor the biggest is weight reduction, Ford needs to do their homework and not rushed vehicles and not let the consumer be the Guinea pig thanks ford!

      This will be a MAJOR turning point with Ford and their dealerships, I believe at least. The F150 is their best selling vehicle and something will need to change with these dealerships.

    Ran across your video and smiled most of the way through it. Like you, I knew a lot more about the car than the staff. I had to establish a personal relationship with three different people before I could buy the car. In negotiations, they pulled that trick where they let me walk out on their best deal ($750 short of what I wanted), and then called me half an hour later to say okay, come back.
    But at least they were honest, compared to your people. Except for saying no to what I wanted to pay, they didn't lie about anything.

    Great video with great information. I just ordered a GT last month and found it strange that I had to go through a dealer nearly entirely for a supposed online buying experience. Did not know about the Ford options stuff. Dealer offered me a lease where I get an additional 2,500 off. Probably at the cost of the 7,500 rebate. Gotta look the options plan up and send it to my salesman so he knows what I want/expect. Had a similar experience with my salesman. Great guy, but I knew way more about the car than he did. I believe they'll know a lot more about the lightening when it drops (cause, F-150). I'm reading a lot of dealers are just not taking this car seriously. Ford better do some educating to get some dealer buy in. People should not be more enthused to buy them than the dealers are at selling them.

    • @GetEnergi
      @GetEnergi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! Yes they offer the 2500 since the lease doesn't qualify for the 7500 tax rebate. Personally i ran all the numbers and the ford options plan is the way to go if u want a lease option. It opens up the 7500 credit plus you get lower payments. Best of both worlds. And you can finance the balloon payment at the end.
      I hate that we have to buy them thru the dealer too. Even though i technically bought it online, went in and signed the paperwork on an iPad. I could've done that at home. Hah. But this is Ford's first true EV so they are trying to utilize online sales and their dealerships. It'll get better in the future especially with the Lightning coming out. Salesman will have to learn about this new F150 since it's their best selling vehicle. Congrats on the GT too!! I was heavily contemplating selling my premium and getting the GT.

    Used to sell Fords years ago; dealerships are con games. Lie, cheat, whatever…”service” department was where much of the profit came from.
    But watch Munro Live about the Mickey Mouse “engineering” of the Mexican Mustang… what a hurry-up job! “Gotta compete with Tesla…” Tesla is probably 5 years ahead of any other car company in producing electric cars.

      I'm glad a salesperson chimed in! thanks for that, i agree they are deceptive. As far as the cooling system. Its actually the best around based on an engineering POV. You NEVER want to use a new technology on a new vehicle. Hoses are cheap and reliable. If they go out after 200k miles, go to Autozone with $10 and fix it quickly. If an octavalve goes out... oh boy...

    i am an attorney. i have purchased 4 new vehicles in the last 4 years. these are not replacements - i just added additional vehicles. before i went to the dealership, i researched what the MSRP was for the vehicles and then told the dealer i would only pay a maximum of $500 over "invoice" - and i wanted to see the actual invoice. at the moment i encountered a problem, i simply said "i am going to purchase this vehicle on my terms or i will go to another dealer." that usually solved the problem. on one vehicle, there was an "exchange" agreement on switching out the wheels (my RAM pickup) and i wrote the "terms" of that agreement myself on the sales contract and had the salesman initial it. on another vehicle, when it came to picking up the vehicle, there was an attempt to add a surprise fee. i told the Sales Manager that i would not pay anything extra and that we could "do this deal the easy way, or the hard way. if you insist on this fee, i will sue your dealership and i will make sure that this deal costs your dealership the most money in your entire history." that speech also eliminated the surprise fee. i don't like to play the "i'm an asshole lawyer and i'm going to ruin your life" game very often - but sometimes i have no choice.

    • @bikingD
      @bikingD 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes they are the worst. They are owned by people in your community. Hire people in your community. Give back to the community. Also because dealers compete with one another can negotiate a better deal. Also have more locations so can service you better. Your right dealers suck. How you buy a car is up to you but if you like to pay full list for your car on your phone. Plus what bonehead buys a car without driving it. Plus have fewer locations for service. Buy from a big company who gives nothing back to the community. Buy a Tesla.

      @@81MercTurbo Not at all. 30 years ago I did a co op course for business with a Chrysler dealership.( Example of community involvement) Then after at the time I became the youngest Manager at a Chrysler dealer in Canada . Stayed in the business for about 5 to 6 years and loved it besides the hours. Will tell you this the dealer sponsored local kids sports, involved in community events. The city I worked in also had 3 Chrysler dealers with different owners and between them alone hired about 200 people. Never mind other brands. Salespeople, admin, service, managers. Etc. It gave customers 3 places to shop. Made competition so the client got the best deal. Give them choice on service. Give them better selection. So many reasons dealers are good. A big company owning a location means no community involvement. Means the money is leaving the community. Means that you will have less locations to service at less selection and have to drive farther to get to select locations. Can't shop as strong for a better deal if you like a make if only 1 location owned by the manufacturer. Just because this guy dealt with a bad dealer that don't mean anything. In fact being a dealer vs a manufacturer location if didn't like it he should have just drove down the road to the next dealer instead of complaining on You Tube. That was his prerogative no one forced him to buy a car there.

  • @jbbevan
    @jbbevan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I agree, the buying experience was the worst part of the process...they know nothing about this car at either the sales or service levels...they missed 3 promised delivery dates. I love the car itself but post purchase service is not there. I waited 17 months between the reservation and the delivery. Deming said "Every problem is a training problem..." and that has certainly been true in spades in this whole experience. Incidentally, had the exact opposite experience with buying the BMW i3 (at a lower price...new) in 2015 where both sales and service knew the car inside and out. Get the dealers in line (trained) or eliminate them...or consolidate all EV activities in a new dealer chain built on the needs and realities of the EV world.

    • @GetEnergi
      @GetEnergi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. I wonder if BMW gives commission on sales of the i3? That's the biggest issue with the Mach-E because the sales team doesn't give commission so they don't have an incentive to learn about this vehicle. But its also a double edged sword because if they get commission, they might be even worse with the markups.
