I like driving my old 2009 matrix it's easy to fix, especially with videos such as this. It has 187000 on it and they need to be replaced, I never had a car that the suspension lasted more than 180000 km. Anyways that's for the great video, very helpful..👍
Thanks man, I really appreciate the visual run through before I head out to knock it out on my '04 Vibe.
Piano Yoga Woodd Thanks for commenting
You did good job on how to replace, good video..
Thanks you for time and effort sir
Awesome video, thanks.👍
excelent! great work
mikewaxx Thanks for the support!
Thanks for the video very helpful. Do you recommend changing mounts each time a strut is replaced?
when its apart, turn the mount in ur hand and if it feels like its binding then its bad. if it turns smoothly its ok. also look for play
can you put a lift kit and 15" wheels on a matrix ?
Do you need wheels alignment or balance after struts replacement? I am wondering. Thanks for the vid.
Chuyen Do if ur careful u can line up the holes on the new struts with the marks left on the hub to strut connection. That will get u VERY close. An alignment would ease any concern after that. As for wheel balance, not nessesary. But worth doing every 2 years or so
good but as a pro autotech a piece of advice: these struts have been made with a still standing position in mind for its service; it's safer, easier & faster that way
also, when you are connecting back the botton of the strut, a 2x4 piece of wood under the knuckle + being lifted with a jack will give you a better guide & stability to control the fasteners position and have it done in a sec 🕵
other than that, good job 😁
Spent the last 17 years working on cars. A pro knows theres more than one way to skin the cat. Thx for commenting
Great vid. Any chance someone has a link to replace rear strut on a 2004 Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix? It looks like I would have to take the plastic wheel covering and other parts off to even get to the rear ones. Thanks!
Thanks for commenting Lukasz Rozwadowski!
Great Video...Was wondering what all the torque settings should be on all the bolts and nuts?????
what i like to call german torque spec. good-n-tight lol
Womderbar!!!!!!!!!
@3:30 when you shake the rotor back and forth, you replicate the sound my car is making. Does that mean I need to tighten things up? I'm afraid the shop will get me some how, if it is that simple. The sound started a year ago very lightly and has gradually gotten louder. I can locate it to the drivers side. Thanks!
+Joseph Reynolds I would DEFINITELY take off the wheels and have a look for yourself. Often you will see the same things the tech will at the shop. If something IS loose, remove it. Inspect it, and repair/put it back together... Worst cast scenario is you end up taking it into the shop to fix it...
+Archer69er Thanks, I just found the issue yesterday, it is the bushings where the sway bar meets the frame. It's in the shop now.
calipers, rotors, and pads would of been a nice change too. Might as well, with everything unbolted.
I couldn't agree more! But the customer wasn't able to do them at the time. Thanks for watching!
Thanks.
Too bad there isn't any way to soften the ride on these Flintstone cars.
Thanks for great video. Could You tell how long it took You to complete the job, was it only one side or both? Thanks.
Thanks for commenting @MrMackowski!
As for how long it took to complete, it really depends on a few things... In my garage I use air tools as well as hand tools. I'm also a trained mechanic. For the average do it yourselfer I'd say an afternoon for both sides.
You can also buy a complete strut, spring & mount, already assembled for a reasonable price if you don't have the tool to remove the spring. (also takes less time if you buy them complete)
Never replace just one side.
+SoundsRight only showed one side so that i didnt waste more video time. Of course i changed both
oh yea I was repying to MrMackowski. sorry
+SoundsRight no prob bud
thank you !!
ur very welcome
Spend extra $30.00 and get the quick replacement, everything new not just the struts and saves time on installation..
i usually do, but in this case they were not available
yeah, I did the backs....it's quite the process. I should have thought of making the video. at the same time.
Safer too.
How is changing parts that arent worn out "safer"
What I mean is you don't have to deal with the spring compressors. They can be dangerous
Are these Monroe and how do you like them so far ? Rough or smooth ride?
+J Clermis They were Monroe. I found them to be pretty good! firm but proper ride
do you need a wheel alignment after changing them?
smithdsmit hendrix91870 no
Do you have a video for replacing the tail light bulb?
Homecmk I'm sorry no, it was a customer's car
It is fucking annoying. I did it twice on my matrix. No way around it. It really is just absolutely annoying
Yeah I was about to say u put the bolts in wrong
Did you get the front aligned after?
Not nessesary
just buy the whole unit not much difference on cost and it's a straight swap no screwing around with a spring compressor
dave houston i normally would but they were not available
nice, but I'm sure your sway bar links will be impossible to remove
yep, usually have to cut them off
Why do guys in another video crack the axle but lol
Nut*
Fuckk this shit looks like a pain in the ass lol my car leans on turns pretty hard and make sqweek noise figured it was this but idkk
2005 Matrix
That’s for info man
springs are out; that is what keeps the car level, shock absorbant do what their name say, absorbing shocks from riding on irregular surface. Suggestion change the whole thing.
We’ll done however seriously complicated for a novice. No thanks
You can always spot a Canadian by the way they say the word (process).
Dude needs to do a better job explaining what he's doing. Should have worn a wireless microphone.
Scott Wexler be glad to utilize one if ur paying for it ;)
@@ArchersGearheadGarage You probably have the means to pay for a cheap one. Geez...
