    That was a very well done bearing job. Very well explained, super good cameraman which I appreciated the close-up shots which I find super important. Big thumbs up guys!

    So nobody has invented some good pliers specifically for these kind of snap rings? Just wondering 😊

      They have, the issue is the design of the snap ring and also the rust gets in there

    Thanks. Lots of tips and reasons why. This is the most detailed and 2nd gen Matrix specific video I've found. Going to tackle this on both sides of my 2009 XR Matrix, with the larger engine and bearings and flanges. Got an impact, but no press so I'll be borrowing that bearing puller kit with the threaded rod to pull em' out and in. Hoisted aboard your advice about outer and inner races and why you need to torque the CV nut, thanks. Like you I got new flanges with the bearings, so that much should make it easier. I'll be using a rotary wire brush in the drill to clean out the circlip channels and bearing runs, instead of your sandblaster(lucky duck). Bought new ball joints (220,000 miles) and tie rods, which I installed grease nipples in, cause if it moves, I like to grease it with synthetic grease(displaces water too). My torque wrench is letting go, so I might have to borrow my buddy's. Only got 40 years out of that Gray unit, POJ! Thanks again for all the tips. Feeling confident enough to tackle this FWD now. Loving the 2.4 Camry engine and extra 5th gear in this little subcompact. Doesn't work, goes like stink and still gets great mileage(compared to my 5.9 Mopars)

    How many kilometers on that matrix?

    • @Tech-28
      @Tech-28  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey sorry for the late reply, this matrix has 110,000km on the odometer, unfortunately rust has crept in between the knuckle and the bearing resulting in excess pressure in certain areas of the bearing race and ultimately causing the bearing to fail from an overheating condition at some points throughout its life..

    I officially hate Toyota after watching this video. I'll stick to the 6 point axle nuts and 1 piece bearing assembly on my Nissan from now... But thank you for the helpful instructional!

      Loaded knuckles are cheap and easy to do, we did it the hard way ebay.us/8H8eWp

      @@Tech-28 same quality as the OE that came with the car?
      I was told the snap ring removal can be a nightmare too.
      This is challenging and time consuming especially for a first attempt on such repair. I am afraid to tackle now after watching your video given the many things that can go awry. Well explained though. 👍

      @@hz240 yeah the quality is actually pretty good, I have replaced many bearings from this company and haven’t had a single one go bad yet over the course of 6 years. They do also offer a lifetime warranty for a small additional fee

      @@Tech-28 is the 2008 model similar? Any other way to remove/install bearing race without hydraulic press?

    • @Tech-28
      @Tech-28  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@hz240 yeah they are almost identical. Yes you can use a tool called “the hub shark” and it uses spacers, and a threaded rod that you use with an impact gun. If your bearing is super rusty it might not come out too nice
