Union Vally is very tough. It opened last week and I know a guide who went and caught one trout n one kokanee and he knows that lake. New Melones, Pardee, Bullards & Stampede are the best lakes
I always start my day trolling with leadcore line and most of the time I will hook up on it before I can get my DR rod out! Most of the time you can use leadcore for koks. Only when I have to get down deeper than 60 ft its hard.
What is your lead core setup ,I heard you mention using lead core at stampede on Seps outdoors radio show, I'm interested and new at using it when we're not using a downrigger thanks for the info much appreciated!
I like using a lead core set up as it always produces. Need a soft tip rod as I use a fiberglass rod and the reel is a ABU 6500 that holds ten colors 12# test lead core line. Then I tie on a 30ft piece of ten pound test mono leader. Then dodger and skirt. Every color you let out gives you about 6-7ft per color. after 8 colors the line will bow up so 8 colors will be max
@@AlanFong okay that's great! I've got seven colors of 15 lb test lead core everything else in my setup is the same including the type of rod ,I got it from Cal Kellogg I also did have a Abu 6500 line counter that I got at the fisherman's Warehouse in Manteca as I spent all my stimulus money on tackle until some thieves stole it from me when I was at flag City before headed out to pirate's lair, I just saw your video with your producer and her mom you guys sure have a good time just like when you're with that Warren guy what a couple of characters jeez!
Thanks guys! Looks like fun. Did I hear you were at Bullard’s? Looking forward to your upcoming videos on Kokanee and the “hot boat” videos. First time I’ve heard of this 👍🏻
Yes fished bullards few weeks ago and hooked over sixty koks before noon. Been up at Stampede last coupe days and it is on fire! Have up coming videos I did there and will be out soon! Be lots of info
Hi Allen and Thank you for sharing you Knowledge on Kokanee fishing. In this last video you talked about a hot boat and how it would not catch fish ?? Not sure what you mean . Do you have another video out on this because I struggle to catch them in my boat.
A hot boat is where you get a negative charge off your DR cable which repels fish. If you zig zag and catch one here and there you have a hot boat. I'm showing how to test to see what's coming off your DR in next video. You need a digital volt meter and while your trolling put meter on DC voltage at the lowest setting. Put negative side on ground and red positive on wire cable and you will get a reading if it is negative you have a hot boat. Scotty makes a black box to correct the problem.
How far you clip your line in is very important. The closer to the cable the more radical your dodger will move. When using one line out I usually only set it back 8-10 ft. The next video coming out I describe how far back I set them.
Alan, it looked like you were using a lamiglass Jarod rod I just busted mine... a giant fish broke it.... can't lie I stepped on it. I'm trying to buy another one off of your video but can't figure out how to do it. I went to description and clicked on # lamiglass, that just sent me to lamiglass videos. Help please.
Sorry just right now were having diffulties with our web purchasing. It will be resolved real soon. Thanks for trying to support my channel I really appreicate it.
Yes you can and now is probably a better time as the water temp rises they go deeper. I would toss a 1/8 or 1/4oz kastmaster and flutter it to the bottom and jerk it back but when you get closer to the bank reel fast or you will snag
Great video. Thanks much
Glad you liked it! The next one is even better and more info
Thanks Alan! My coworker loves fishing for kokanee!
That is awesome!
Thank you looks like an check
??? a check?
I meant to say that it should be an easy way to check with positive or negative readings Thank you
Thank you, can't wait for the next video
Mondays are my regular videos and Wednesday are the reports! Thanks for watching
Thanks Alan. Looking forward to catching some.
There very good eating!
Great job but what would you expect from such a nice guy. Good luck on your channel.
Thanks, you too!
Very Nice, happy to see you have a boat to fish out of :)
Boats are no problems as I have lots friends. Rebuilding my aluminweld now. Just got Ranger back up n running replacing my powerhead!
Hey Alan, where do they plant kokanee at bullards? And thanks again for another great video!
When they plant the lakes most of the time they release them at the boat ramp. At Bullards it be at the dam or Dark Day ramp
😃👌
Do you know anything about union valley reservoir, going their for a week this week

Can you use lead line if no downriver is available?

Do Kokanee eat night crawlers while trolling for them
There plankton feeders so they probably would eat worms
Netting Tutorial>> What would Alan Do?! LUL
Netting fish is not my strong point as I don't get a lot of practice as I'm always doing the catching lol
How far back do you go for your set back on a downrigger

Number 8 is wrong on the recommended gear.
I'll have to look as my producer updates my videos
Another great video! What is your secret recipe for your corn? Have you tried fire corn?
Watch my next video on koks as I show you how to scent the corn.
Thanks Alan! My coworker loves fishing for kokanee!
Kokanee fishing is fun as there are lots of variables and can be rewarding if done right! And there great table fare
