  • The admission from rugby star Gareth Thomas that he is gay, along with a number of other sports people from around the world making public their sexuality, has led some to argue that the professional sporting arena is now a place where homosexual men and women can participate and enjoy the same freedoms as everyone else.

    I've never heard of Straightophobia, I've never seen any Gay person ever bash or speak hatred toward straight people. I've never seen Gay people beat up someone for being straight, I've never seen Gay people boycott eating at a place of business because straight people eat there. I've never seen or heard of ANY Gay person beating someone to death for being straight. But I Have Witnessed ALL Of These Things Happen To Gay People By Straight People. Isn't it time to put the Neanderthalic thinking and behavior beneath us all and evolve as a society to not judge one anyone for loving another human being? There is no secret dialogue to Love that only Straight people comprehend. LOVE is a Universal gift that belongs to ALL of US, Not Just Some Of Us! And it sure isn't a gift for any human being to decide who get's to share the wonderful feeling of loving and being loved and who doesn't. It's Pathetic.

    It's not about that. It's about "I can live openly anf honestly and be happy" and most importantly "There's a lot the future holds for you, whatever you might think". Those are real issues gay people have to deal with. That's why the famous people who do come out are in a way role models. If I can look at a successful and content gay person, who's loved by his/her fans, it brings back hope in my life.

    This is one of the few areas in my life in which I happen to conform to the gay stereotype: I don't like contact sports at all. However, I'm not so sure if it's because of my homosexuality or just because I'm kind of geeky. lol. But to the LGBT people who do, I laud you 100%. People need to wake up and realize that we're present in every aspect of society. The best way for people to accept us is if they realize that they already have a gay friend, instead of relying on stereotypes to judge us.

    US soccer (football) player Robbie Rogers came out and said that today, 15 February 2013, that he was gay. Rogers has played for Heerenveen in the Netherlands, Leeds United in the United Kingdom and the US National Team. Before him, soccer players David Testo in the United States and Anton Hysen in Sweden had come out as gay, as well.

    The point rarely made - except by masculine gay men to each other - is that the reason these guys find it so difficult to come out is the effeminate image which still hangs around male homosexuality. Very few men are born camp - they get into a habit of it when they hit the scene. In the process they lose what is most charming and natural about themselves, and further ensure that young men coming to terms with their sexuality continue to find the process painful and difficult.

    @CallumJ230 I know, it's only because football is seen as a macho sport. There is 15-20 Premier league footballers who are gay but being told by their agent to keep it under wraps. I love football so their has to be many of others to.

    I am not so much tired of gay people coming out in sport - personally I couldn't care less. What annoys me though, is how they declare themselves "role models" for other gay people. What they are saying to other gay people is, "Make the same decisions I have made, live life as I do, be more like me and you will be a better person for it." I think it's an arrogant attitude to have. People should form their own identify and make their own decisions without abandoning themselves to "role modes."

    And, you're breaking the myth that doesn't make sense. It just shows that stereotypes shouldn't exist. It's time. Shame and guilt for who you are shouldn't not exist. Great people are great people. It's time that society evolves and becomes more accepting of all diversity. People are more complex than we imagine. Differences should be applauded. We are who we are.

  • @Danny_UK
    @Danny_UK  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @gayissimo86 I think it will change eventually but it will be years before it gets anywhere near being accepted 100% into society. There are numerous gay footballers but will not come out because of the way people see football as a straight mans game just like any sport. Until more gay guys take an interest in sports more then I can't see it changing soon.

    @cashernandes1 thats quite a simplistic viewpoint whilst it is correct you don't mention that sports is considered a very manly thing and when you are accused of being homosexual in sport you are essentially being emasculated to the point were you are put below women.

    It so sad that Justin's brother John denies his own brother is gay. The homophobia in the Fashanu family must be very strong Justin had no one to support him to accept him for being gay. Very tragic.
    Gay men in sports who come out deserve a lot of credit some people are so ignorant being gay is beyond sex. Sexuality is NOT just about who you sleep with sexuality also relates to other aspects of life. For instance, heterosexual male athletes acquire a lot of media attention for being straight.

    shocking, gay sportsmen shud be allowed to come out if they wish but also shud not be forced out if they dnt wish, having gay football leagues etc doesnt help tho as football and sport shud be inclusive not seperate and by standing out it doesnt help, more gay players shud be in pro sports if they gud enuff

    Why is it even a taboo? I always thought sports were supposed to be ASEXUAL. Neither heterosexual nor homosexual. Does it involve sex? Don't think so...

    Why do we have hysteria around this?? Sport should be enjoyed by those who love to watch it and played by all who love to play it. Sexuality has nothing to do with sport. Play on please

      rich carter Sounds to me like you need to come down out of the hills of Kentucky and goto a library and read a book and learn something. Your an idiot. The main continuum of the Aids Virus in this day and age is by Heterosexual people, not Gay people. Straight people get just as many positives on STD tests as Gay people. We are all human and no one is immune from STD's. You truly are a class act Moron, congratulations!
