He is a symbol of hope in today's society. I am gay and I train in Kick boxing/MMA...a hard sport, I go to work with bruised eyes and ribs most of the time, while my straight colleagues consider me the fit guy who will lift anything heavy or even get them out of trouble :P
I have straight friends who are so nerdy and sensitive, which makes them sort of effeminate compared to me. Yet I am just an everyday average guy, I make no effort to prove anything. People have to leave stereotypes behind....

Much respect to gareth, I remember crying myself to sleep some nights cause I didn't know how to tell my friends and most importantly my parents and family that I was gay, let me tell you theres never gonni be a right time to tell people but if it feels right then do it cause there will come a time when you just can't hide it anymore, cause it will eat away at you.

Good on this old boy. My 2 cents: What you do in your bedroom shouldn't have an impact to how you preform your job or how you adress others.
I totally believe that being gay doesn't mean you have to act like a girl or a man. It does mean that if your choice is to have a partner (s) then it should be your right to walk down the street holding hands, embrace in public, have a normal life without fear of ridicule, injustice, or negative impacts from people around you.
    Stand tall Gareth Thomas

Let's get this in perspective. The guy was not the best role model, between chav-like behaviour in a French night club and having to be restrained from attacking Irish fans on one occasion, not to mention infidelity to his wife. Now, after he has no career to lose, he comes out as gay and all of a sudden he's a hero. No doubt a commentating job with the BBC awaits. I'm not for bashing the poor guy, but making a hero out of him is not the only other option.

Why should anyone be bothered about who is aligning to what I am happy about? Only dead dogs will not be kicked. May all the beauty of this life be within and around you for ever.

I just read his story in Sports Illustrated. SI paints this picture of him as a brave hero. It also says he cheated on his wife with other men. SI is at the same time trying to make Tiger Woods into a villan for cheating on his wife. So its ok to cheat as long as its with other men?

What I do find slightly depressing is the fact that in the 21st century we are STILL having this kinda discussion, and no I'm not being naive,I know there are always gonna be bigots and homophobes.until those people realise that we are not going away and that we do and will report homophobic crimes we will always have to shout out loud. And people like Gareth Thomas will still have to defend themselves in the spotlight.

Speaking of Islam. It may come as a surprise to many people that probably the gayest people in the world are Saudis. In countries where homosexuality is suppressed the most you usually find that it's even more common in those countries than anywhere else. Despite the fact that it's against the religion and is a capital offense. There's an old saying in the Arab world, "women are for babies, men are for pleasure". I've been to the middle east and I can honestly tell you they are everywhere.

mikeygormley His wife has already said how she feels. They're still good mates. Yes, he did the wrong thing marrying her, but according to the society of the time, and to many people's attitudes even nowadays, gay men should marry a woman they don't love because that makes other straight people feel more comfortable. Many people see marriage not as a vehicle for the expression of mutual love, but as a duty to God for the creation of children, and they don't think it matters she is not loved.

InhaleJimmychoos Based on the exit polls of the 2004 US Census, 4% were openly gay. Opinions vary widely, but let's apply that factor to the current global population of 6,792,000,000 people. This produces a figure of about 270 million 'abnormal' people. That is enough for us to form our own superpower, but despite all the ridicule and violence perpetrated against, we still attempt to contribute to society as best we can. Put another way, it's 'normal' for a minority of the population to be gay.

Wow, it's depressing that some of the comments about this video are so hateful. How can a person have so much hate inside them? That's what's not normal, not that someone is gay. I'm sure I'll get a comment from someone calling me a 'faggot' or 'paedo' whatever. I know I'm normal, who can tell me otherwise? It's just a shame for homophobes really, they're the ones who are broken inside. To think things like that about another person is the real evil, not love and truth which are perfect.

I used to watch the Internationals hoping that Gareth Thomas was on the teamsheet. If he wasn´t on the starting 15 I would feel there was something missing from the game and would be looking to the other 29 players, thinking who could provide the same exciting entertainment. Often there was no one. My team wouldn´t even be playing but if G T wasn´t playing I might have switched over and watched the matinee instead

Right lads, its as simple as this.....get racism out of the picture first....not even related...second, fair play to Gareth, it is truely the hardest thing to do as a male in this world ( fair enough it is getting easier ) but how can anyone give this man shit for finally admitting to himself who he really is. Granted the wife and kids might have been a cover up and i in no way recommend bringing kids into this world as a cover up ploy but thats the decision he made.

InhaleJimmychoos Yes, every one of your examples is entirely correct, but to my mind all these exceptions prove is that you can't derive a single formula that explains absolutely everything about everything. The human race is exceptionally diverse, and you of all people are as much proof of that as am I. The best we can do is to marvel at the variety of Nature, and not try to ruin the lives of others who are born differently from ourselves. This ranges from snide comments to outright violence.

"Gareth is being honest about what most men desire of doing, we women know that, that our men folk would rather fuck each other than us"
Is that true? That women think their male partners would rather be fucking their male friends? I'm curious - is that what women really think? If it is true that women think that (and it could be for all I know) then I stand amazed!
I'd be surprised if most men thought that way.
Going back to the main message of the video though, Gareth is one brave guy.

He wasn't just better at being "one of the guys" either. He is actually one of the best rugby players of our times and has proved himself over and over again. Because of those facts it's upset some narrow minded bigots. It was ok for Elton John, George Michael or Larry Grayson to be gay, they fitted in to the sterotype and that was ok. Some of you should learn something. The one British person who saved more lives than any other single person during WW2 was gay. I suggest you educate yourselves

  • @Gary190tube

I'm confused...I just read them all, and brobro said:
"2. 2 days ago, I came to this video, to try and learn about what you guys feel ? whats your struggle ? But alas, it all turned racist."
Which seems fair enough. But I can't see where it turned from him saying "yeah you've got my support" into "you're all racist f*ckers"
So I don't know what happened really.
I suspect he's not really anti-gay, but that someone left a bad comment along the way and it turned nasty...
