Thanks for the shoutout. Much appreciated and look forward to working with you guys again in the future. If you want to do a tutorial on how to shoot from/with a helicopter, I'd love to be involved.
I love that instead of just doing fight scenes, you add your own spin on all of them and make them simultaneously badass & intense while keeping your comedic style in it.
The best so far. What makes this great is that, despite us not knowing what's going on or why, we feel the characters' struggle and are therefore invested in the action. Making the awesome action even more frigging awesomer.
It's almost comical to see like 10 people all packed up behind one single dude holding a stick with a ball on it and a phone attached to it But I'll be damned if that ball doesn't give you some of the best videos I've ever seen a ball deliver
Even while watching the scene, I felt like the shot with the camera following the baton into the action was just freaking amazing! Glad to see that you picked that up! All in all, this was my absolute favorite scene as of now and this corresponding espisode was insanely helpful aswell!
Ryan, i fucking love you man. I have watched your show since i was 12 years old, i am 19 now and because of you and filmriot i am now going to pursue my dream and study film next year!
I've always taught that, especially specially in a fight scene, you can break that 180 rule. This will effectively disorient your audience just like the main character is disorient, thus bringing the viewer more in to the action. This is a prime example of just that. I will definitely be showing this short to my students. Awesome short, Ry!
Glad to see this quality of film riot coming back. I am speaking specifically of the information, not the production value, as I recognize that this level of production (at least with any consistency) wasn't ever typical. Loving this month's theme and look forward to more months with themes in the future.
This is amazing. Better than most of the fight scenes Hollywood churn out where the people shooting it have no idea how to make the action good. We film a lot of fight scenes and I'm very inspired by this to raise the bar on what we're able to do with storytelling through fight choreography.
Wow you are such a genius, the way you explained every shot decision, like everything had a purpose, you were not moving the camera just to move it, you moved with a purpose. Ryan you are the guru of cinematography, great job! This expanded my horizons.
The film was amazing And what it more amazing is that he filmed a short movie with a phone and the thing with handle with the 4K image thing. Well done Ryan that made me feel amazed
I was so blown away by the female action!!! I can tell she’s a fighter/athlete. I had to look at the video again! She even looks like me. She reminds me of my fight scenes in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’. It was very frustrating having to fight with people who couldn’t do a decent kick a** fight scene to save their life-I worked that show seven years fighting everybody to monster and creatures. I’ve got to give props where due. I’m so glad I found this channel. I’m so excited for this action lady. That video just made me want to see more. There is NO action movies out these days that can top this video. Wow wow wow. You’ve rekindled my dream of seeing great action on the big screen again! I know who I want to play me in my screenplay ‘Adrenaline’s Edge- A Diary of a Hollywood Stuntwoman’.
I said it on the main video, but I will say it again: this short was amaxing. The constant smooth movement during the fights showed off the talents of your stunt men and women far better than any shaky cam rubbish ever could that holywood seems to embrace all to often nowadays, and also conveys the events of the fight much better also. the actors were amazing, the location was awesome, there was a touch of comedy and even a real fricking helicopter! this had it all...
Thanks so much... I bought Final Cut.. Final Draft and an HD cam and then sat in the corner not using it for way too long. Your channel changed the way I view making vids/ movies. I finally got off my ass and started shooting. They're terrible (right now) but getting better. thanks again for the inspiration.
Man, I just love how fluid the camera shots are. This clearly shows, "shaky cam" is overrated. I wasn't confused, at any moment, as to what was happening in the film.
The reason that the fluid cam works so well for this particular fight scene, is they had awesome stunt performers involved!! When you are dealing with untrained actors, you often have to hide their bad technique with camera shake. IF you like these types of behind the scenes looks at action filmmaking, you might like my channel! I 'm a professional stuntman and I make action/comedy videos. I'm about to start a whole action filmmaking series :D
Please tell me that after action month we don't go back to rewinds. I know Ryan has a kid and he's busy and all, but I love content like this. Keep up the great work film riot
the 180 rule is more noticeable in dialogue scenes, but you definitely want to keep it as at least a rough guide in fight scenes. Source: I'm a hollywood stuntman ;)
69_Xpert you can just use one phone. But if you want all different angles and stuff, you just need them to act like 50 times and film all of them in different angles.
Personally I wouldn’t recommend a phone simply because it lacks any range that a decent camera like a Canon T3i would have. If I were you I would invest in one solid camera that isn’t too expensive (like the one I mentioned above). You don’t need multiple cameras for a film. All you need is one. As long as you are conscious about the flow of your scenes and editing them so they seem seamless you should be absolutely fine. Usually I like running through a scene in one take and then do the exact same take with the actors but from a different angle so I can chop them up together so it seems like there are multiple angles of a singular scene. I’ve never had to resort to using more than one camera for my films. Would be be simpler to use multiple? Yes, but it isn’t necessary and you can still pump out quality content with one camera.
Besides the video and choreography being awesome, I'm just glad you called out that cool elbow shot with the baton. It kind of stood out, and I've seen this video 3 times now between here and the DJI channel. Very cool.
Wow so clutch. Super similar to Daredevil's hallway fight scenes. Even the subtle dolly moves through the hallway during the slower parts. I love it though.
What a great action scene! Hollywood would spend 10 million to make that. Great job as always Film Riot. Also I get tons of use from the music packs you released.
glad you liked this fight! I agree that hollywood spends way too much money to make similar action.. thats why I'm bringing my professional stuntman experience to youtube on my channel. If you like action, comedy, and bts, have a peek and lmk what you think!
I really, really liked that scene! I usually enjoy your fight scenes, but for some reason, I felt that one really nailed it! It took me a few re-watching it to understand why (I've got a "slow eye" as you can see ;-) The camera moves are fluid, it's always easy to get who's where and doing what. In other words : NO SHAKY CAM! Handheld, yes, but not so shaky and close-up the actors could be dancing or hugging for all we know until the camera moves out and we see which one is on the floor and which one is walking away... That one was... wow, loved it :-) ♥♥♥
hey cromthor, this was an awesome comment! I just wanted to give you a heads up, if you like action filmmaking videos! I"m a professional stuntman based in Los Angeles, and I'm about to start doing an in depth tutorial series on how to do stunts and film fight scenes :) There are already some BTS vlogs similar to this on my channel.. pls let me know if there's anything in particular you'd like to learn!
its always awesoem when you get performers who can do the fight without needing to hide behind shaky cam.. and a director who knows how to shoot fights properly!
I loved this scene so much! The action was amazing and it felt like a real movie. Did anyone hear Josh in that one scene where he pushed past to the door and he's like "Look out. Talent coming through." Lol
hey strider, I just wanted to give you a heads up! If you're interested in action filmmaking, I'm a professional stuntman and I'm about to do a whole behind the scenes tutorial series on my channel :)
foot chase and hall fight were both exceptionally well shot action pieces. Very impressed with the Ozmo as well. Pretty crazy image quality for something so small! I can relaly see the huge advancements in your directing Ryan and its only a matter of time before you get your feature film break I think! Good luck.
I found if you can establish the space--you can break the 180 rule, because the audience already knows where they are. A hallway is perfect place to break this rule.
This was great! The Main Video kicked so much a- butt. Great job!!
Colab?!?
+samandniko Thanks again fellas!
SAMANDNIKO, your videos are great
Heeyyy it's my favorite YOU TUBERS!
Sam, Niko!! I'm a los angeles based stuntman. Let's collab! I sent you guys an introduction email a couple of days ago!
That shot where you follow the arm was honestly the highlight of the fight for me. Well done.
I love how you talk about your motivations for everything, not just the shots.
zack?!
Thanks for the shoutout. Much appreciated and look forward to working with you guys again in the future. If you want to do a tutorial on how to shoot from/with a helicopter, I'd love to be involved.

0:37 how i think my film looks
3:08 how it actually looks
Haha 😂😂
You should learn how to edit then.
(I know it’s a joke)
@@refalvyfatih6978 how to direct
Loyd with that wall stunt literally blew my mind. I can't even.
It is less painfull than it looks, but still.
It looks very violent
I hope there wasn't a lot of retakes.lmfao
One take. Thank goodness.
was he wearing padding ?Xd

6:20 talent coming through hahahahaha
How you manage to hear that?)))
These videos are going to get Ryan that directing job he wants. Absolutely top notch.
Ryan, i fucking love you man. I have watched your show since i was 12 years old, i am 19 now and because of you and filmriot i am now going to pursue my dream and study film next year!
+FilmRiot
Same here. First year done at SCAD to pursue film.
Hope you get fired when you get a job
+Tony Bamanaboni Good thing about scad is you learn about everything in the industry. If I get fired, I'll get another job doing something else.
+Tony Bamanaboni I hope you dont find success in life

The idea and explanation behind the camera's movement's motivations and revealing guards was brilliant
The film was amazing And what it more amazing is that he filmed a short movie with a phone and the thing with handle with the 4K image thing. Well done Ryan that made me feel amazed

see The Raid Redemption hallway fight scene! that's perfect
1:15 LOL JEEZ
Where were you when Christopher Nolan was making the Dark Knight triology
seriously
+Teddy Kapoor did you even see the choreography, in the Dark Knight Rises, it was like batman taking a shower while trynna hit someone
+ahmed a.qader or the parts where some guys, with out getting hit, just fall over from fear i guess
+MachoMan 1492 naw man they on weed
To be fair, the Dark Knight trilogy was amazing... it just... didn't have the best... fight scenes...
Awesome scene. Working on a short film involving a fight now. Super helpful.
I love how you shot free handed but not shaky cam so we can actually see what's going on. Well done!
That was a bad ass scene!
That was on par with the hallway fight scene on Daredevil. Awesome work all around.
It was way better than the hallway fight scene on Daredevil
I meant it as a compliment. The entire Daredevil production is one of my personal all-time favorites. So, I really enjoyed it.
Gary Turbo Don't be ridiculous.
Gary Turbo little ridiculous mate
Proud to be a Full Sail graduate because of what I've learned. Very proud to have a knowledge vat like you to keep my wheels turning. Thanks!
"Excuse me, talent coming through."
-Josh Connolly
That definitely needs to go down in the (very) thick book of Film Riot one liners.
This is one of the most well-shot/well-directed fight scenes of the year! Kudos; so cool!
Holy shit, that was a tight incredibly good episode! Thanks everyone involved.
ur attention to detail is amazing
After 8 years I am back here to learn more from you guys! THANKS A TON!
This was a very intelligent way of approaching this scene Ryan!
Loved it (as usual)!

For me the 180 rule really comes into play with dialogue scene. Thats where its most noticeable for me at least
the 180 rule is more noticeable in dialogue scenes, but you definitely want to keep it as at least a rough guide in fight scenes. Source: I'm a hollywood stuntman ;)
Ryan your channel is amazing doc.... Thanks for all the info you provide.
My favorite scene this month! Thanks!
Working with the Connolly's is officially on my bucket list! You guys are required study for my film school students at CSN.
That looks like the same hallway as the one in Daredevil season 2.
That's what I was thinking. It had to have been inspired by that.
And thy got inspired by the original "Oldboy" film.
Lutz Gottschalk
That was the scene from season 1 of Daredevil. The one in season 2 is more like the Raid.
Josh Vance that's what I was thinking
Do you need 100 cameras? because all i have is 2 phones.
not at all! you can even film on one phone :)
69_Xpert you can just use one phone. But if you want all different angles and stuff, you just need them to act like 50 times and film all of them in different angles.
Ruustic don’t you have to pause or do you have a app

Bro he literally used one camera in the shoot
Great stuff guys. Loving these.
You did an AMAZING job with this, Ryan. Congratulations.
This are the type of videos why i am subscribed, need to do a horror and comedy month next!
that arm kick move was the best camera move film riot has ever done! niceee
Damn, filmriot has nowhere near enough subscirbers. You guys should at least have a couple of mil. The work you are doing is just amazing.
Besides the video and choreography being awesome, I'm just glad you called out that cool elbow shot with the baton. It kind of stood out, and I've seen this video 3 times now between here and the DJI channel. Very cool.
Great job! Best one yet.
Simply phenomenal! Loved the details into capturing the action!
Everyone was unbelievable.. Awesome job and great information.
Wow so clutch. Super similar to Daredevil's hallway fight scenes. Even the subtle dolly moves through the hallway during the slower parts. I love it though.
This is the best fight scene ever from you. I can not count the times I've watched this.
I want to learn to direct action in film and this was very handy. Thanks dude
Honestly, this fight scene was dope!! You raise the bars of independent filming! 👏
this is such advanced information, thank you ryan
outstanding shots, you the man
Ooof im so excited to start my own action film, you guys are a lot help with that thank you.
Thanks FilmRiot! Definitely be using this in one of my later videos :)
can't wait to see them!!
Very good tutorial. Thank you to you Ryan and your team members.
This is my favourite on yet
Oh RyRy, the growing responsibility of your work and family had made you alot calmer than before i really miss the old Rayn :(
Less of a How To and more of a look how awesome we are, and yep you guys kill it.
Great job and great short. Was very entertaining and enlightening.
That hallway scene looked sick great work.
Thanks Ryan, helped me a lot for my own project :)
U guys are just AWESOME :D
What a great action scene! Hollywood would spend 10 million to make that. Great job as always Film Riot. Also I get tons of use from the music packs you released.

Love this channel. Great way to learn when you can't afford film school!
That is a Fantastically shot scene!!!
I really, really liked that scene! I usually enjoy your fight scenes, but for some reason, I felt that one really nailed it!

1:58 I definitely felt what you wanted to create when I first saw the short. :)
So awesome as always congrats
Yeah 1:58 was my favorite shot. That and the guy coming out of the hallway when she was going after josh
Great fight! It has a good structure and NO SHAKEY CAM! YAY!
its always awesoem when you get performers who can do the fight without needing to hide behind shaky cam.. and a director who knows how to shoot fights properly!
Great scene! Thanks for the tutorial -- really appreciated!
Love the content. Always very informative. Thanks for sharing
Seriously can't believe that little blowdryer of a camera looks better than R3D footage.
you guys did an amazing job
I loved this scene so much! The action was amazing and it felt like a real movie.
Did anyone hear Josh in that one scene where he pushed past to the door and he's like "Look out. Talent coming through." Lol
wow wow wow this is really awesome and no words to say you guys great....
Really great episode! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
LOVELY! Epic lessons to be learned here. THANK YOU!
awesome behind the scenes look at everything
hey strider, I just wanted to give you a heads up! If you're interested in action filmmaking, I'm a professional stuntman and I'm about to do a whole behind the scenes tutorial series on my channel :)
Amazing episode! Learned alot, thank you :)
Great scene ... and nicely explained...

I don't want action month to ever end!! This stuff is awesome!
Splendidly done. I'm taking notes, mate.
hey! just letting u know I'm a professional hollywood stuntman and I just started releasing my own fight choreography tutorial series :)
Just started making TH-cam videos a year ago. Still got *a* *lot* of work to do but hey, at least we’re trying.
Did that Andrew Kramer film that was supposed to be part of the film riot epic summer ever get released?
Congrats man! I really liked this one (the short). I would love an episode dedicated to how you did the sound design for it. Thanks!
Genius choreography, definitely inspired by The Raid I and The Raid II.
great vid man
I found if you can establish the space--you can break the 180 rule, because the audience already knows where they are. A hallway is perfect place to break this rule.
Brilliant explanation and work !!
hey man, just letting u know I am a professional stuntman and I just started releasing my own fight choreography tutorial series! ^_^
Because of course, Loyd Bateman was there. The man is a total badass and complete sweetheart, we loved working with him.
This may have been covered earlier, but why is the mic pointed at the ceiling and not at the action?
This video was extremely useful and we will definitely be sure to use some of these techniques! Thank you so much!
