If you look at a lot of 80's Hong Kong action scenes then you'll realise that a lot of stuntmen took a lot of real hits. This is because they didn't make very much money so most of their income came from being paid 'extra' in order to take real, full-force hits from people like Bruce Lee.
But they don’t fake wwe... just search up abyss vs bram monsters ball match or mankind vs the undertaker HIAC match. Or, any death match from japan. Or worst of all, syd vicious breaks ankle.

Tony Vincent made me lose consciousness with my own gi in 2000 during a Judo/BJJ class. It was accidental and since I was facing away from him and being stubborn trying to escape, he had no way to know that I wasn’t still resisting when I started to spasm and convulse. Luckily our mutual friend, Bill Carter, saw what was happening and told Tony to release the hold. I have about 10-15 seconds of lost time and was on my way out for at least 10 seconds before he cinched it tighter with a knee in my back. I peed my pant at some point and woke up with my body still chest and arms spasming with my arms stuck wide and feeling very confused. Tony was a apologizing (unnecessarily, I should have tapped out with my foot) and I remember asking him while still in a daze “Did I get pee on you?” . Great guy and training partner.
I remember I once watched a movie with this one scene of fake fighting. The sound effects did not even match the actual fighting. Edit: How did I get 247 likes??? I am not sure what movie it was, my friend was watching it. I barely saw it. I just remember a few parts. Yes, I think it was Bollywood.
My first fight scene was on stage. We had rehearsed it. The day of the show, the actor got real excited to be in front of an audience. He hit me so hard that my face was red.
About a year later, I had another fight scene in another play. I told the director, "if anything goes wrong with the choreography of the scene," it would be a real fight on stage. The other person didn't like me

Why there is no an Oscar award for stunt men? A good stunt team can sell a movie as much as a famous actor... Can you imagine: "from the stunt team who brought you John wick"... That's enough to make me go to the movies
My problem with the Bourne movies is: when i watch them today i can't help but notice a lot of those cuts mentioned in the video. The "96 Hours" movies were even worse in this regard. I mean Liam Neeson was what? 50? 55? when he shot Tak3n. They had to hide some of the imperfections. But too much is too much
Man when anthony takes that fake punch im like so thaaats why a lot of fights in movies seem to be generally very slightly familiar, it’s the same dude planning them out. Still looks fabulous though
I've been on a set & not everyone does it like this... Some guys actually hit (not hard but still, sometimes it does get a bit hard by mistake) The actual trick for a good fight scene (the ones without a lot of throws and stuff) is to have the people in the fight actually kick or punch each other but to do so slowly so that the lack of velocity doesn't make the moves painful... Later increase the speed of the total video by times 2 or 3 and it looks really cool... This technique even gives the director more angles to work with and makes the final product look genuine. I have seen this technique used in many movies. I am a personal fan of longer takes as it looks real rather than the multiple cuts. P.S: I wonder if Tom Cruise movies even do all of this stuff... I'm sure they just do the real deal. Yup I'm a TC fan 😃
Or in wrestling, in nano second, the clenched fist turns to an open hand strike. It produces sound that makes audience perceived the thrown punched is really hard. Then, there are times the offhand slaps a part of the body on the same sequenced as the thrown punch to produce the same sound effect. The offhand can be done by either the puncher or the receiver.
What you will also notice since the mid 80s to now is that all of the fight scenes are really close up. There's no full frame fighting and so you don't see any technique. It just goes from cutscene to cut scene. Nothing beats the 1970s fight scenes.

I don't mind actors faking fights. It would be devastating to know stunt men actually getting hurt for the fight scenes to look real
Also the scenes wouldn’t look that good because real fights are kind of weird. And you wouldn’t have any sort of artistic direction.
