    BorleiasOccupation Day 47
    ...
    "Because sometime in the next day or two, they're going to attack us here-- and that's exactly what we want them to do."
    "And when they do," Iella said, "who are you going to fight them with? The New Republic or the Rebel Alliance?"
    Wedge and Tycho exchanged a look, and both grinned.
    "Neither," Wedge said. "We're going to face them with an enemy they've never had the displeasure of fighting. We're going to hit them with the Empire."
    "They're not going to like the Empire," Tycho said.
    -this video had me so stoked I had to go find the original text 😂🍻

      I know it’s been a few years but I always think about this line from the book, my personal favorite two books from the Vong Era

    Thrawn would be proud for wedge understanding his enemy before fighting them

    Let’s not forget the beginning of the siege where before Czulkang Lah was sent originally a less experienced commander was sent to oversee the operation, which Wedge hoped to string along with some false victories to buy time but a bit of bad luck resulted in the Lusankya dropping out of hyperspace in the middle of the vong fleet, killing the enemy admiral and a good few ships with him. I think it was Tycho that said it but it was joked that Wedge was such a good general that he couldn’t even lose on purpose.

      We saw how devastating Borleias was as is… imagine if Wedge’s original plan had ACTUALLY worked….
      Although, I’d argue that the Vong would not have committed anywhere near as many forces to the planet unless they knew about Big Lucy

    Rebel Dream and Rebel Stand are probably my favorite books in NJO, and most of the reason is watching Wedge finally work without red tape and proceeding to slap the shit out of the Vong

    I remember reading this whole campaign in the New Jedi Order series... it was most satisfying.

    The Vong have been fighting the Republic. We're going to face them with the Rebel Alliance.
    And now we're going to introduce them to The Empire.
    Amazing campaign.

    I vaguely remember these scenes. Something along the lines of "we're going to use empire tactics" "Oh, they're not going to like empire tactics"

    This war with be remembered as a slaughter against the citizens of the Galaxy, and how they bravely fought against a overwhelming unknown enemy that had no ideologies that is related to the Galaxy, and had no concept of mercy.

      Not when you have to convince them to land and close in themselves to do it. That's the difficult part.

    I live the NJO books and these are some of the best, thanks!
    My fave book in the NJO is Traitor, by a mile. I feel like the writing itself is very moving, much more so than any of the others, and Jacen's development is also very stirring and powerful. I feel like there's a lot there to work with for videos.

    Hey Corey, I have a question for you (and the rest of the comment section). I have read the five Thrawn books + survivors quest, Legacy of the Force, Fate of the Jedi, crucible, the Republic commando series, and Revan. What do you recommend I read next? I am a bit reluctant to get into the NJO and the Yuzzhan Vong war, but I have thought about reading them. I have yet to dive into canon books but if there are some really good ones I will probably read them at some point.

    🤔 . . . was this, keeping secrets, what was technically used in “Last Jedi”?

    • @cloudftw113
      @cloudftw113 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, but this was an actual plan that did not just involve cutting, running, with a dash of suicide ramming. Also he didn't just pull rank like a like a WW1 officer just to pull rank.

    • @CoreysDatapad
      @CoreysDatapad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Actually it did involve a suicide run in the next book with an SSD, and the whole battle involved telling people to do what he said regardless of the hotshot pilot's (Jaina's) misgivings for operation security. He did the exact same thing *with* the hotshot pilot the whole time too, causing the rest of the forces there to start to resent her a little, since they were trying to convince the Vong Jaina was a goddess and gave her special treatment they couldn't explain to everyone else, again for operation security.

      What? They gave two specific examples that are directly comparable between the two situations. Obviously it's not directly analogous in every way but that entirely misses the point.
