    Captain Needa: "No ship that small has a cloaking device!"
    Grand Admiral Batch: **Laughs in Tie Phantom**

      No ship that "cheap" has a cloacking device. Personally that's how I read it. Typical Imperial arrogance.

      Needa probably has no clearance in knowing that, he's just a lowly captain afterall.

    I find it hard to believe there could be a material that unique that only existed in one place. Recently I've started to think that, despite how populated that the Galaxy seems at a glance, I think in reality most of it was still largely empty and unexplored. It's really really hard to wrap your mind around the scale of just how BIG a galaxy is.
    Building on this idea and looking at the official maps in source books, I get the impression there were probably tens of millions of solar systems that were just too far from major hyperspace routes, and as such were not reasonably accessible.
    Even by the time of the movies, with over 25,000 years of "galactic history" there was still talk about lots of unexplored territory. And that makes a lot of sense to me actually when I look at some real world estimates of how long it would take for a civilization on the technological level to build a dyson sphere to colonize a galaxy usually being in terms of *MILLIONS* of years.
    So that special material needed for the cloaking devices probably wasn't limited to that one nebula. That was probably just the only known source. That's how I choose to think of it anyway.

      TBF, prospecting for such a specific resource across the entire galaxy would require an obscene amount of probe droids, probably ones modified as well. We DO know that it wasn't just in that nebula, because Mirramere is mentioned. That said, said crystal island is stated to be literally invisible. If that's true, it is possible that all the other deposits were invisible as well.
      There's also the fact that Stygium crystals were a class of khyber crystal (using one in your lightsaber made an invisible blade) and may have had exceptionally specific criteria for their formation.

      Quite possible that galactic civilisation was limited to mostly naturally habitable worlds. Whilst terraforming is technically possible it's still a vast and costly undertaking, almost never worth it, so much easier just to set up shop where nature had already provided a breathable atmosphere. It certainly seems like the vast majority of the galaxy is uninhabited.

    • @heavyarms55
      @heavyarms55 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RJALEXANDER777 Yeah. And that makes sense given the context too. Though FTL travel in SW is possible, it's highly limited and described as very dangerous when you don't travel on known paths. So both that limitation combined with the cost associated with terraforming, it fits that much of the galaxy would remain unexplored even after 25k+ years of history.

    Aren't there some source conflicts as to whether Thrawn's devices needed Hibridium or were just purely artificial?

    • @heavyarms55
      @heavyarms55 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's likely because when the Thrawn books were written other ideas about cloaking devices hadn't been yet. I distinctly remember in the books them talking about "finally" making a "viable" cloaking device. While this could be that they mean "finally made one viable with something other than the special material" I don't think that was the original intent based on how it was talked about in the book.
      Personally though, that kind of minor detail difference doesn't bother me.

    That joke with Palpatine at the end was in extremely poor taste. I understand not wanting to get involved in the Lucasfilm and Legends vs Canon debate, but when you say you want no part in it and then make jokes that mock one side or the other for any reason, it looks disingenuous and makes you look like an asshole. Either pick a side or stop bringing it up.

    • @CoreysDatapad
      @CoreysDatapad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      When did I ever say I want no part in it? I've always been very clear that I have no respect for the ragebaiters, I don't tend to make videos specifically *on* them because I don't want to waste the time on them and that only feeds into their ecosystem. That's also not some "Legends vs Canon debate" which I do think is a false dichotomy and have no interest in trying to pick a side in (because I can and do enjoy both). That's *part* of why I think the ragebaiting channels who try to frame it that way are ridiculous at best and grifters at worst. There are plenty of people who only like one or the other without making up nonsense about civil wars at Lucasfilm and try to get their fanbase as pissed off as possible over their weird "Lucasfilm hates fans" or anti-SJW stuff or whatever. If that somehow gets conflated as being about Legends vs Canon then no, that's no the same thing actually. Aside from all that, this was actually a pretty generic joke about clockbait in general.
      I don't know how much clearer I can be in this, but The Fandom Menace sucks.
