Hey Scottie - you can trust your life on the Shoei.
I was a Bike Courier for 6yrs in NZ, and only wore Shoei. My last one was a Carbon mix - just the dogs bollocks.Torrential rain etc, it never missed a beat, and we Couriers were hard on ALL our gear. Anyway - one afternoon I was sitting at a light, waiting for the Green, and across from me ( ahead ) was a lass who was at an arrow, where she would turn in front of me when her side went green. K?
Well, light goes green and I take off, and as Iam about to pass her, where she is sitting at the “Red Arrow” - she turns in front of me. Now, I had nowhere to go and only enough time to let go of the bars - and jump up….I just pushed as hard as I could in that split secound, on the pegs.
I impacted, and as I flew over her windshield ( on a slight angle) I looked down at her face, and for a split second - here eyes saw mine - and it’s an image that is burnt into my memory.
I cleared her car and sailed over her, the drivers rear door area and impacted the road on the top-right-forehead area.
    SMACK.
Now, I can tell you why I will always wear a Shoei.
I had heard a rumor years back, that decent Helmets were designed to funnel energy away from the impact area, and towards the opposite side, so that the Kinetic energy wouldn’t stop at the impact site - theoretically, allowing the energy to leave the Helmet at the farthest point. K? Still with me I hope…
As I hit, and everything is super slow motion, the Helmet seemed to feel like it flattened or flexed, and then I felt a wave of energy ( kinda like ripples ) move around the shell of the Helmet and dissipate - And my world came crashing down as my body hit the road and I started to slide.
I got up from that crash - walked over to the car and checked out my bike, swore at the woman and then picked the bike up.
Still in a bit of shock and amped up on adrenaline, I took my Helmet off, so I could REALLY give the woman an earful, and as I did so, I checked my Lid - and this was vERY interesting.
Impact site on the top right forehead area had a few wee scratches, like you get if your lid falls of the bike seat. But when I turned the helmet around, there was a buch of flakey bits of paint and what looked likeCarbon threads. This area was about the size of a Cricket ball.
I remember being puzzled - and I poked it with my glove - and any thought of yelling at the woman just vanished. The area at the back of my Helmet, was spongy, and it felt as if someone had beaten it with a hammer in that one spot. Thats what floored me - and when I really looked at the Helmet as a whole, there were fine rippled lines running from the front to the back, so the Kinetic energy really had travelled around the Helmet to the other side. So, I will always buy a top of the Line hoei - it’s cheap Life Insurance.
Dunny. I had a bloody good laugh that some Ozzie called you that and it stuck mate. Hahahaha. At least it wasn’t “Sheila”….hahahaha.
    Wind Therapy for ever!
    Cheers.

Hey Paul, thanks a lot for the video. Very often, I also miss a clear opinion on products that are presented in these numerous reviews. Looking forward to your next video!

    Good stuff Paul, I've subscribed.
Back in the eighties I lived in North Berwick. A couple of friends were injured in a bike accident, so another pal and I decided to go and visit them in the REI. I was pillion on a GPZ750 and we wiped out on a roundabout on the outskirts of Edinburgh. I was wearing a cheap, old open face helmet and suffered a double skull fracture that through associated complications (meningitis) left me 'petit mal' epileptic for about eight years.
Now I live in Trinidad and wear a Shoei Hornet X2 when riding my T7, but yesterday I ordered a Neotec 2. There are still a few around if someone wants to save about 30% of the cost of a Neo 3, and they are still, by all accounts, excellent lids.
Hope you'll produce some more non-shill videos - it's great to hear a detailed and honest opinion. I think the problem with a lot of supposedly unbiased online reviews is that many of the writers may have little comparative experience and there often appear to be certain cognitive biases in play - though most of us suffer from those in one form or another!

Buffeting likely, I also have a tiger 900 and it’s a problem. I wear a shoei for last 5 years. I use a neck scarf or balaclava with ear plugs, and clip in wind curtain.
Great video… as looking for a replacement.

Thanks! Yep the screen is ok but the small wings at the bottom of the screen actually direct air flow into your chest!
I’m going to buy the Givi screen which is much wider at the bottom

Oh gosh. I feel bad because I got my rpha 71 maybe 8 months ago and didnt say anything because i was really disappointed with the helmet. Like I expected a better helmet than my Rpha 70. It was NOT! I gave it about 20 miles but had enough, put it back in it's helmet bag and into the closet. The Rpha 70 carbon is the quietest helmet I have ever had while the 71 was like standing in windtunnel with a jet engine. The visor is really good though. I'll have to go deaf before wearing it again.

Wow. There you go. I reckon many people will be the same. Great looking helmet but something not right to make it that noisy.
