I agree with Chris with almost everything, but I must add my personal take since I own both and wear them quite a lot in different temperatures and conditions. However, my opinion mostly matters for cruiser and naked riders, since my helmet is always in the wind, no windshield whatsoever. 1. C5 is WAY quitter than N3 - the neck roll is interrupted in N3, and that's the end of story 2. The sun visor is better in N3 - it is bigger 3. The visor is better in N3 - bigger field of view, the pinlock adheres better, for some reason, also the closing sistem in C5 is HORRIBLE, you can never close it properly with one hand just from one side - the end click is a total failure, I ended up not opening the visor anymore, I just open the helmet from the bottom. The N3 is way better in this aspect, opening and closing the visor is perfect. 4. The front vents are WAY better in C5. First of all, there are 2 of them, and you can chose what to ventilate. Secondly the profile of the air distribution is better in C5, in N3 you can always feel too much in some spots. Thirdly, the N3 front vent system is a joke, is a total failure, you can never safely open and close it with thick gloves, it is the worst feature from the whole helmet. 5. The comm system is almost identical BUT, the C5 control is actually a remote, with it's own battery, so guess what? I run out of it and took me some time to figure out why it is not working anymore. Plus, it is annoying to listen all the time to "remote connected". However, the buttons on the N3 control could be more easy to differentiate. I cannot find the front one easily, so I guess is easier to operate the C5 with gloves, it's power button is in the back, and you can tell easier which button is which. These are my personal differences, but mainly, both of them are awesome - the best flips on the market.
Schubert has told me though if I buy this in the Netherlands or Italy it doesn't have American warranty it has to be set back to Italy or the Netherlands or wherever you purchased it not to a local dealer here in the states and you're in the United States it has to go back overseas to be warranty by the dealer you purchase it from
I bought my C5 from Chris in November. I rode a perfectly adequate C3 for the previous 5 years. The difference is like night and day and riding in it this winter has been a joy. Thank you for being a brilliant store, Motolegends.
So far very happy with the C3Pro bought from you approx 2 years ago. After using Shoei lids for over 13 years before switching to Schuberth I fully agree that the quality of both brands' lids is on par. Just like you said Chris - the right fit is the key here! Best regards!
15:47 comment is my exact circumstance, coming from a current Schuberth C4 XL the new C5 XL is enormous, the L is way too tight so I have this week bought a Neotec 3. I contacted Schuberth about the issue and it took them 2 weeks to respond without any wise words. As you have said Comfort & Fit is what trumps the decision. Great video as always.
Can’t say my C5 experience has been that great. The visor would only lock on one side making it both noisy and leaky. Not ideal on an 1800 mile trip up to and around Scotland in the wettest summer I can recall. Being used to my previous Nolan with a central visor tab, I found myself pulling the chin vent off on more than one occasion too. Fortunately I didn’t drop it as I’m sure a replacement would have a stupid price tag. The fix for the visor tabs was a nail file to take a little off the length and it now locks on both sides. Still leaks though. With the flip up just walking along the helmet is very creaky sounding which doesn’t strike me as very premium and probably more like my old Caberg. I like the fit and comfort of the C5 but I think for the money it shouldn’t have issues with leaks or visors that won’t lock. For finer weather I have the M1 Pro and that is a firm favourite. Weirdly I would even say quieter behind that big visor. Probably because of smoother airflow and a good seal despite being open below. Of course not coming with a pin lock it can fog a bit in the cool air when you aren’t moving but not much of a problem. Next flip for me will probably be a Neotec unless the C6 proves to be perfection incarnate.
I agree, the C5 is over rated, mine with the coms added now sits in the bottom of the wardrobe (paperweight) and was replaced with a Scorpion Evo Tech, the one that flips right over to the back, this Scorpion is absolutely awesome, in fit and function. IMO its a 5 star lid, the C5 1 star.
I did forget to mention the chin vent issue, which turned out to be user error, although still a design fault. The problem was, is, that when you lift the chin bar you have to depress the release button on the underside with your thumb. If you then place your finger on the vent in order to squeeze the button, you can pull the vent off. Yes, it’s a fault, but once you know the problem, it can be avoided. CP
Nice comparison, chap with the cap 🙂 I bought the C5 last year, and it's been great. Comfortable, and quiet(ish) although I always use ear plugs. Crack position works well, easier to open visor a little, then push down to the crack position (no drugs). Not overly keen on the visor tabs being off centre, Shoei design is better. My previous helmet was the Concept (the 1st gen of this flip lid), but I hadn't ridden for about 20 years so missed many iterations! The M size fits perfectly straight out of the box, so didn't need any tweaks. When you hold the straps apart to put it over your head, there is a creaky plastic sound, which I didn't notice when trying on the Neotec 3 a few weeks ago- just out of interest. The Neotec 3 did feel a little more solid too, and again seemed to fit well. BIG difference is the price, with Shoei being considerably more for both the helmet and comms, maybe as it's a new release? Having said that, would probably go for the Neotec 3 if money wasn't a concern.
Hi Chris, your review is spot on, I have just bought the Shoei Neotec 3 and it’s a great helmet, but it is prone to steaming up in cold weather and at slow speeds. Also the central visor locking button is almost impossible to open on the move with winter gloves on. Other than that I am very happy with the helmet.
Wow! What an excellent video indeed. So much info and information is outstanding. I’m getting ready to take my motorcycle class next spring here in Michigan USA. I’m 53 years old and have ridin dirt bikes all my life growing up and ready for a street bike. Also think I’m leaning forwards the BMW 900 GSA, just more affordable then the 1250 I want; beggars can’t be choosers. Haha Thank you for such great information on helmets. What is your head and brain worth ya? It’s funny Michigan just a couple years ago took away the helmet law and I see people riding on the freeway with zero helmet, which again is legal now in this state. But I think man, just takes one fall. Thank you again for such an outstanding and informative video about helmets and the ones I’m looking at before I purchase my new motorcycle. As you guys say across the the pond…. Cheers and thank you. And a super kick ass Pinball game. He was the best!
You are absolutely right when you say that the fit is fundamental. The right fit for me is in general the shoei helmet design…so, in this case, the shoei Neotec III, but I also feel that the Schubert C5 besides being too tight …to the point that I got headaches after a while using it,- the truth is that, in deed, it is a quieter Helmet. Less wind trying to get in. So, I concluded that due to the more oval shape of my head, made me feel more comfortable with the shoei, but the Schubert is slightly better on wind noise canceling, if I can say that about wind protection of a motorcycle Helmet. Thanks for the useful and handful video. It’s very clear and explanatory ✌️✌️
I’ve been sticking with Schuberth since the C3. I’ve also gone through two C3 Pro’s and an E1. Sold the C5 after a season. The front chin vent cover went off and had to be replaced. The visor got slightly bent after regular opening it one handed by grabbing the left side (as opposed to the central part on Shoei) and wouldn’t seal properly any longer as it was bent. Then there was a squeaking plastic sound when pulling the cheeks apart when putting in on. Some more random plastic rattles and one of the cables at the rear comms unit slot came undone and I had to pry the cover open to reconnect. Some moisture got into the mic assembly during a rainy ride and the mic cracked for a few days until it properly dried out. In short, I might have gotten unlucky with the C5, but all these quality issues are simply too much and I’m switching to the Neotec. I’ve had the Glamster for a few seasons and it has held up really nicely.
Well said Chris and I've been in Schuberth lids since the C2. Also had Shoei full-face lids in the past. Will try and visit you when the C5 is up for renewal and coffee & Yorkshire Tea swings it for me
Thanks for the review. I ended up following your advice and going to the shop to try it. I was really leaning towards the Shoei but when I tried it on, it was pressing on my forehead and the shop didn't have different size liners to offer. To be honest it felt more like a shell shape issue for me. I went for Shuberth and decided to pay a bit more to get the E2. As per your description the visor on the C5 really felt cheap and I knew it was going to bother me. The E2 also has the removable peak which might come in handy for the sunset rides. (I ride touring bikes.) I wish I could buy a SC2 boom mike and make a connector to fit on my Cardo Neo but it looks like I am going to need to make some mods...
Great video review Chris. I have a Shoei "head" and the Neotec is on my get list. Might be visiting the relatives before the summer and I'm now considering a visit to get a custom fit - up in Scotland I've yet to find a shop that offers this.
How is the bottom protection of both helmets to heavy rain? I have Neotec and C4 Pro. Neotec protects the bottom part of inner liner while Schuberth does not. The result is that Schuberth in the rain absorbs humidity via bottom part and humidity expands inside inner liner. A detail which may be useful for those who are riding also in the rain.
That is scary competence, wish I lived near! I bought the C5 last year, and went directly on a long trip - and was quite disappointed. Mostly the visor (won't stay up, won't lock closed - build quality?) and poor sound from the SC2-system speakers already in the C5. Thank you for this video.
Worked in a motorcycle gear store for a couple of years and have already seen too much stuff break on the c5, broken visors, broken plastic parts in the visor mechanism, we already had to send multiple for warranty or replace the entire visor mechanism, also the adventure variant peak just feels plasticy and cheap and has too much free play in my opinion, never had so many (almost none) warranty issues with the neotec 2 and now the neotec 3 which I have myself feels much more solid and not as cheap as the c5 in my opinion, there are just to many gimmicks on the c5 for my taste, also the button for opening the chinbar is much easier on the neotec and custom fitting is much easier and cheaper, so yeah in my opinion the neotec is much better but of course for some people the c5 will be better
A question more about the communicators than the helmets... the missing factor in your presentation. If you consider the combo of helmet and matching communication device, that could make a HUGE difference. 1. Can it pair with Cardo mesh yet? My brother has Cardo, and making connection proprietary instead of open will decrease the enthusiasm factor, as Cardo is trying to make theirs open. 2. I have a C5/SC2 combo and the speakers aren't very loud. Is the SRL3 better than the SC2? It'd cost me about $300 more to get the Neotech3/SRL3 combo compared to another C5/SC2 combo. I want to know if the SRL3 is that much better.
Yeah I wish we would have shops like this in the Philippines but the people in the stores here have no clue and don't offer any custom service. What you see is what you get so you better make sure :)
I just ordered the C5, hopefully it fits. I think I have more of an oval head so I'm a little worried. It's on sale online for a few hundred less than the NeoTec so I jumped on it. No local stores carry Schuberth at all and there are very few Shoei helmets around and none of them are the NeoTec 3.
I upgraded from the Neotec 2 to the Neotec 3. Positives with the Neotec 3, I like the central visor opening and the sun visor drops lower. Higher safety standard. The front vent flows air on the outside of the breath guard not inside. On the Neotec 2 with the breath guard fitted too much air was channeled directly onto your face. It's slightly quieter. Negatives, it's heavier and the Neotec 2 was already heavy. I wish Shoei would make a Carbon option. It doesn't have a small first crack visor position like the GT Air has. It's sits closer around the chin probably to reduce noise but I prefer the Neotec 2. I found the Neotec 3 to be a slightly smaller diameter fit around the head causing light pressure points. I have a thinner liner on order. See how I go, I can always go GT Air 3 which fits better and is lighter. I don't think Schuberth's suits me being rounder. The C4 I had allowed too much noise in with my head shape otherwise it was a great helmet.
It’s true. Love the C5 looks and prestige but my head does not want it. Own a Shoei since 13 years. The new Neotec3 my last one. Use it for commute and touring. Great piece of technology!
Ha. You’ve never bought a helmet in New Zealand Chris. Custom fit? No chance. They expect the customer to order whatever parts he thinks he needs. I wanted a tighter fit for my Neotec 2. Parts were on an 8 month wait list in NZ. I tried to order from the USA and they won’t ship outside the USA. Are you sure you don’t want to open a branch in NZ?!
Same in the USA, I’ve never been in a cycle shop that spent any time discussing fit beyond S-M-L-XL; make your choice and see you sale complete! I would love a custom fitted helmet by someone who actually knows how to properly fit a helmet and has the internal pads available in the store.
Same in Australia I think. However when I bought my C4, it was basically a size wrong, so I bought new pads, I think from the visor shop but many others had them. Fit perfectly after that. Delivery was about 10 days Europe to West Oz.
@@RabidWombatzI recently asked the Shoei importer here in NZ when we’d get the computerised fitting service for Shoei. In essence, the answer was never, it’s too expensive. 😢
I tried to join the Bennett Facebook group but admins rejected me (no reason, very weird, feels unfriendly tbh) so I’ll ask a question here: is the visor height on the Shoei Neotech 3 shorter than the C5? I tried the Neotech 2 on on my bike and had to tilt my head down to see the nav6 (just below the Speedo). I couldn’t live with that on a long trip so I got a Schuberth. It was super comfortable though and that’s the only reason I didn’t get it. If the Neotech 3 is talller /more visor up and down range, I’ll probably get it.
Neither works particularly well. You just have to stick the unit on the side of the helmet, and this has to be quite far back to avoide interfering with the lift-up chin piece. Both will work, but you’d need to remove the speakers from the C5, obviously. CP
Ive fitted a cardo 4+ in my neotec 3 and it worked fine, just make sure to clamp it just behind the sena cutout and fit the wires property underneath the cheek pad, also the mic takes up more space so try to find the ideal position so that the cheek pads dont come loose
There is a Cardo adapter that fits in the spot that is removable for their Sena unit, however it doesn’t snap in and relies on 3M tape on back. I have a friend who used a downloaded file for a 3D printer and he printed me off one today with all the proper snap in tabs. Looks OEM and works perfectly
I have the neotec 1 XXL I ordered all three liners and i need to know which one will fit me better. I put one in but after riding it seems the helmet is sitting on the top of my head and starts giving me a sore head. After i take it off there is impressionsin my scalp that gives me ridges on the top of my head. let me know what i can change. Not going to buy another helmet till next year, just trying to make this one last one more year. thanks
No. D-straps really come out of racing, so they tend to be more prevelant on sports helmets. The emergency services very much prefer micro-ratchet straps as the are easier for a third party to use. CP
Sir, please, the NeoTec 3 is rubbish in all categories, only good thing is, it never gave me Pain, even after waering it all day long (yes, he is very heavy‼️) - all lever's are very tiny, can't be proper operatet with winter gloves and even with summer one's it is difficult. - Intercome also can not be operatet with gloves, plus/minus just opposite the logig on top - Buckel is giving me lot's of pain on my throat as well and can only be opened without gloves - Venting is 🫣 - even to open the flip with gloves is not easy - lock/latch of Visor can not be opened with big gloves - when I bought the Helmet it fit's thight, after two week using/wearing it, it became absolutely lose fit😔 - the lower interieur jump's out all the time by itself - waering googles is related with pain, because there is not really a nice slot in the interieur for the arm's of it - please stop advertaisment for this Helmet, it's an absolutely overrated product‼️ MT-Helmets Atom II is better in all kategories and is just 20% of the cost 🤣🤣🤣
Sounds to me as though you would be better off in a car. And as far as the MT helmet is concerned, I can only imagine that this is the drugs kicking in. CP
@@Motolegends please, let me add some more negatives - have been using this Helmet in India as well (3.000 km, 2,5 Month), after one week of use the mechanism startet struggling with the conditions over there 🙃 (squicking) - the Flip stand`s up way to high/far above the Helmet Shell, and catches a lot of Wind and Bug`s (Design is way behind the Competitors) - use in Rain is a pain in the A.., easy fogging and the shield is getting wet (inside) on top - Lever of Shield is in lower center position, other Brands moved them left+rigtht or on the upper end in the Center, yes this is smart, because of using Camera, am I right Sir 🤔, also using the wiper on the Glove can be used more easy As I sad bevor, the Design and features are behind the Competitors, even much cheaper one`s are more innovativ => by the way, I did 12.000 Km in a short time on that Helmet, so I really know what I am talking about 😁, don`t think you have got many Customers doing more Miles in a short period than I do 💫 Sorry for my poor English, I am from ....
I usually don't comment on YT, but I just can't hold it any longer. Shoei is not shoe-i, it's Sho-Ei. It's a japanese company and the name has nothing to do with footware. These "professionals" can't even pronounce the name right. Why don't you pronounce s-chu-bee-earth?
The C5’s visor is dog 💩. I’ve had 2 visors replaced and to try and get the pinlock to work is hit and miss. It’s not just me google it the C5 has had a lot of issues with this. Build quality is poor compared to what I’m used to (Arai / Shoei). Won’t buy another schuberth my next flip will be a Shoei.

2. I have a C5/SC2 combo and the speakers aren't very loud. Is the SRL3 better than the SC2? It'd cost me about $300 more to get the Neotech3/SRL3 combo compared to another C5/SC2 combo. I want to know if the SRL3 is that much better.
Thanks Chris.
I love my Neotec 3👍🏼
a knoweledgeable and lucid shopkeeper, I can only wish we had such here in the states.
No local stores carry Schuberth at all and there are very few Shoei helmets around and none of them are the NeoTec 3.
grazie mille per le meravigliosie informazioni
Great discussion our epic Moto Legends!
Can't wait for the Neotec3 !!!!
I agree in every aspect👍🏻
It’s true. Love the C5 looks and prestige but my head does not want it. Own a Shoei since 13 years. The new Neotec3 my last one. Use it for commute and touring. Great piece of technology!
Thanks for your great comparison, Chris. Do you think the HJC RPHA 91 is a competitor to them or is it a step below?
You wanna live with Frodo? That’s what you get.
Did you say the shubert bought out the shoie 3?
Tried the eco3 and C5 today. Eco3 was too small In medium, hurting. The L was too big.
The c5 worked for my head
I'm tied to Cardo because all of my riding friends use Cardo. Which one works better for mounting that system?
Neither works particularly well. You just have to stick the unit on the side of the helmet, and this has to be quite far back to avoide interfering with the lift-up chin piece. Both will work, but you’d need to remove the speakers from the C5, obviously. CP
@@Motolegends Thanks. That's what I figured. It'd be great if they'd standardize the mesh protocol but I'm not holding my breath for that.
@@donpetryna4356 I thought that was for the Neotec 2, unless they came out with a new version.
What’s your recommendation for closing the air gap around the neck on a non-flip helmet? Do you use a certain type of neck buff or ? Thanks
Now that's what I call a comparison!
Start @ 3:30
This was awesome. I want to visit your shop just to have a chat with you. 😅
Not going to buy another helmet till next year, just trying to make this one last one more year. thanks
Haven't run into a Neotec 3 in person yet but when I tried on a C5 my chin was pressed right up against the inside in both L and XL...oh dear!
Do these helmets still give the option of a traditional d-strap?
No. D-straps really come out of racing, so they tend to be more prevelant on sports helmets. The emergency services very much prefer micro-ratchet straps as the are easier for a third party to use. CP
“The Neotec 3 has been out long enough.” People in the states: 😒 🦗 😂
Love your vids and thanks for the comparison!
Great video!
“Crack position”! Chortle 🤣🤣🤣
Schuberth c5 is the much bether helmet. He is SHOEI enthusiast
If Japanese & Germans make their helmets the same way they make their motorcycles then I'd go with the Shoei.
I just want the Neotec 3 to come to Canada!
I heard March sometime from my local bike shop
Or Canada goes to UK LOL
Of only you were closer
3 min in and still nothing... I gave up.
Sir, please, the NeoTec 3 is rubbish in all categories, only good thing is, it never gave me Pain, even after waering it all day long (yes, he is very heavy‼️)
- all lever's are very tiny, can't be proper operatet with winter gloves and even with summer one's it is difficult.
- Intercome also can not be operatet with gloves, plus/minus just opposite the logig on top
- Buckel is giving me lot's of pain on my throat as well and can only be opened without gloves
- Venting is 🫣
- even to open the flip with gloves is not easy
- lock/latch of Visor can not be opened with big gloves
- when I bought the Helmet it fit's thight, after two week using/wearing it, it became absolutely lose fit😔
- the lower interieur jump's out all the time by itself
- waering googles is related with pain, because there is not really a nice slot in the interieur for the arm's of it
- please stop advertaisment for this Helmet, it's an absolutely overrated product‼️
MT-Helmets Atom II is better in all kategories and is just 20% of the cost 🤣🤣🤣
Sounds to me as though you would be better off in a car. And as far as the MT helmet is concerned, I can only imagine that this is the drugs kicking in. CP
You must have a Charlie Brown basketball head.
@@Motolegends
please, let me add some more negatives
- have been using this Helmet in India as well (3.000 km, 2,5 Month), after one week of use the mechanism
startet struggling with the conditions over there 🙃 (squicking)
- the Flip stand`s up way to high/far above the Helmet Shell, and catches a lot of Wind and Bug`s
(Design is way behind the Competitors)
- use in Rain is a pain in the A.., easy fogging and the shield is getting wet (inside) on top
- Lever of Shield is in lower center position, other Brands moved them left+rigtht or on the upper end in the Center,
yes this is smart, because of using Camera, am I right Sir 🤔, also using the wiper on the Glove can be used
more easy
As I sad bevor, the Design and features are behind the Competitors, even much cheaper one`s are more innovativ
=> by the way, I did 12.000 Km in a short time on that Helmet, so I really know what I am talking about 😁, don`t
think you have got many Customers doing more Miles in a short period than I do 💫
Sorry for my poor English, I am from ....
