    Hey ! I bought the Peloton Asphaltf after confirming everything I needed thanks to your video. So Thanks ! ;)
    I've been using it for way over 2 years I think, and I've been mostly satisfied, but there are (very few) cons. Pros are clearly the amount and variety of things you can stuff in and that I will not describe again after your review, but it a very very versatile bag for tech travelers. I'm able to pack clothes and all necessities for around a week of travel + 17" laptop + notebooks + my drones and FPV gear + scraps without issues. There are loooots of pockets of various size and purpose, and the front compartment + 'hidden' padded double notebook/documents pouch is a bliss.
    It is indeed a bit hard if you want to grab something at the very bottom of the backpack, as it is deep and you won't see clearly, but heh, that's just a packing routine to take and I usually pack things I won't need in a hurry or on the go at the bottom (ex : clothes). Anyway that has never really been an issue for me and this back pack is great from materials used to fuctionnal design and fabrication. (Cordura

    There is a zipper on the side of the bag to access the main rolltop compartment. It's not mentioned in the video, but that zipper acts as a "shortcut" in a way to access your rolltop compartment without having to open the roll top every time and dig to the bottom of the bag.
    It's a very neat design, I own this bag and I would really say this bag is a 9.5/10.

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hey Ricky,
      THanks for the comment. You are right of course: There is the small zipper on the side, but I haven't used it a lot, because for me personally it was not very practical. Nevertheless it is good to have.
      Like I always mention in the disclaimer, I don't mention everything. I do this to keep videos short, but still informative. ;-)
      I agree with you that this is a great bag, and I'm glad that you enjoy this bag so much.
      Cheers, Ricky!

    My friend just got the latest version of the Peloton Asphalt bag. Thankfully LBBJKT did listen to user feedback and added a few features to the bag:
    - the inner lining is now gray, and the front padded pannel of the laptop compartment is now semi-reflective on the inside of the bag
    - they added a side luggage slot & handle for those travelling by plane!
    - the secret pouch has also been moved down a bit for passport access when used for travelling.
    - the drawstring is now parachord, instead of the cheap string they used in the past
    - and last, a few metal upgrades for some plastic hardware parts.

      Hey Paul,
      Thanks for the info. WHat you are describing is basically this version. This is the Asphalt version, it is an upgrade to the "normal" Peloton.

    I got the bag and this review have me confidence in buying it. I bought the old version. Which has the same things as the new one except the aluminum closure bars and black inner lining. The yellow lining in the old version helps so much. The bag is DEEP. I bike to school 15 miles every day and this bag has great weight distribution. Not only that but I can carry all my items I need for the day. The organization pockets help a lot. Thanks for the review! Your vids are great. Keep them up.

    Bo, I second your recommendation. This company has impressed me, not only from price point but design. I use their Echelon Messenger, fully loaded, and although it is not the same kind of bag as the Peloton, it has taken a beating, through rain (same climate as Jakarta) and biking. The bright yellow inner liner (not sure why the Peloton's liner is such a dark colour) and all other aspects of the bag have held up. And this is from the viewpoint of a lifetime Timbuk2 messenger user (not any more).

    Your video describes exactly my thoughts when I got mine! Been using it for more then a month now, and it's perfect for my cycling needs. Extremely well thought out, durable, and comfortable backpack.
    Also, for me, the "real leather" zipper pulls felt cheap, so I replaced them with some reflective paracord pulls I made.
    Also, looking at their lineup, this company has a very promising future! :)

      +Bo Ismono well, it was supposed to be like a Carryology's Drive By sort of article, and your video shares the same set of ideas as my writings, so props for making that :)
      My verdict so far is that the Peloton is a durable bag, can hold a lot (8 days travel stuff), but a little too big for EDC, unless you cinch it tight and keep your tech bits and laptop in the front panel.
      OTOH, hows the Arkiv HT500 going on Bo, are the nylon rails holding on well?

    I would like to buy a Peloton backpack. But on the original website it is, as far as I know, shipped from Indonesia. Therefore I am afraid of high duties.

    I've been looking at so many bags this week. From all the high quality makers - Mission Workshop, Chrome, Tortuga, Timbuk2, Goruck, Minaal, AER, etc. When I found this one I instantly felt like the Peloton Asphalt was a perfect match for me. I was so sad to see that it's currently out of stock, and from other comments it seems to have been out of stock for the last 6-7 months. How am I going to get one of these?

    Excellent and beautifully shot review. I am looking for an alternative to the Goruck bags for heavy duty rucks but also for general EDC use. I saw that the bag features 1000 denier Cordura like the GR1 and GR2, but was concerned about general durability. Would this bag hold up to carrying a 30lb ruck plate in the main laptop compartment? Would it hold up period?

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Chris C thank you very much, Chris. That is a good question. Usually the materials aren't the most important thing about durability. How everything is stitched together is Imho slightly more important. I carry about 10kg of equipment in that bag without any problems. 30lbs is about 13,6kg so based on just the weight I would say it should not be a problem. But when you are running more force is added to the weight (I. E. Up and down movement of the weight while running), which will result in more stress on the shoulder straps. I think it could hold up this much force, but I'm not sure about the long-term durability.

    • @thatchanguy
      @thatchanguy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, and very good points. I'm getting the impression that it's very hard to find a pack that is as purpose built as a Goruck, but of still like to find a pack that has more load bearing features if possible.

    • @Youknowthebo

      +Chris C what do you mean with "load bearing points"? Did you also take a look at the 5.11 rush12?

    • @thatchanguy
      @thatchanguy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bo Ismono Ah I mean sternum straps and waist belt. I heard you van attach those via MOLLE but haven't seen many people modify them that way (at least on TH-cam). I'll take a closer look at the 5.11.

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Chris C I see. Yes, a lot of people add them afterwards. But as far as I can tell, a lot of people that run the GoRuck challenges don't use waist belts or sternum straps at all. Which is rather impressive.

    Hi Bo !
    First of all, thank you for all of your interesting videos. I've been watching them since a couple of months, I really enjoy!
    I have a question for this bag: do you think it can be used as a travel backpack (carry on)? If yes, would it be convenient for travel?

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Maxime!
      That's great to hear, that you've been watching my videos for that long. Really appreciate it!
      In the normal configuration (i.e. not extended) it is probably carry on friendly, BUT I#m not sure if it would fit underneath an airplane seat. Furthermore all the straps (although they are all neatly rolled up) could get stuck somewhere in the overhead compartment if you want to pull it out. Granted, this could happen with any backpack, but this bag has more straps than the usual. The regular Peloton might be a better choice in that regard. But this is all in theory because I haven't tested or experienced this myself.
      But as long as you are aware of this minor thing, I think this would be a great travel bag for all the small compartments and it's comfort.

    Love this bag (esp the original), and your review which I saw last year. I waited it out to see if it was just a phase, but now months later I still really want it aha and finally they are back in stock. One thing stopping me from buying it (other than the price + shipping :P), is not knowing whether the standard Kryptonite Evolution Series 4 Lock would fit the side pocket or not. Bo, did you ACTUALLY try riding with this thing on your back?? One very critical issue about this backpack is when wearing it while cycling, it's VERY difficult to see over your shoulder behind you. I tried to commute with this backpack and had a really hard time looking out for cars/traffic behind me- had to sell it after trying to live with it for a few months. Also, the weight of the backpack alone (peloton asphalt) is pretty damn heavy. I loved everything else about this backpack, but those two points were unfortunately dealbreakers for me.

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Tatsuya.
      Yes, I took this on my bicycle. In Hamburg we ride a lot with a bike. I never had any problems with shoulder checks. But to be honest, before I started riding a motorcycle I rarely did shoulder checks. And in terms of weight, I am used heavy bags like the GoRuck or Mission workshop bags, and in comparison to those the peloton is fairly light. I'm sorry to hear that you had so many issues with the bag. Which bag did you get instead?

    The bag looks very rigid, like it holds its bulky box form all the time, even when it's empty. Am I wrong? Or can the bag be cinched together to look slimmer? Currently, the utility of this bag is amazing, especially compared with MW Rambler, but the Rambler can be slim if I'm just casually commuting one day, while this bag looks boxy and bulky all the time. Please lemme know!

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Eric,
      You can cinch it to make it slimmer if not completely filled up. In comparison to the Mission Workshop bag that I reviewed, I feel that this bag is thinner when cinched down.

      I'm experiencing the same thing right now, as I gravitate more to grabbing the px invisible bag because it is lighter. I'm currently reviewing that one, and have to say that using a lighter bag than the GoRuck is quite enjoyable especially in the summer.

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kar Fai Lee thanks, Kar. But I'm confused by your question. When you refer to the "peloton roll top" do you mean the regular version of the peloton? This version is a roll top as well, which is why I'm confused by the question

    • @karfailee7647
      @karfailee7647 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bo Ismono Sorry for the confusion, let me try to clarify.. I've noticed there was an earlier version to the Peloton Asphalt, which is called the Peloton Rolltop. The Peloton Rolltop (USD 130 stated on LifeBehindBars website) is less premium & expensive as compare to the Peloton Asphalt (USD195). While reviewing the Peloton Rolltop video (by LifeBehindBars), there was a side access on the right side of the bag, whilst there is a set organizers (appear when zippers are pulled down) at the left side of the bag. My question will be 'Does the Peloton Asphalt have the same setup like the Peleton Rolltop?'
      hopes this question is clearer :)

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not 100% sure if I understand you correctly, but I will try to answer as best as I can: The Asphalt Version has a quickaccess zipper on the side of the main compartment as well. As far as I can tell, both versions have the same organizational front compartment, but I'm not sure of the maincompartment.

  • @face2much
    @face2much 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is probably a dumb question but I’m new to this so I’ll ask. My current regular backpack leave my back and the bag drenched with sweat after 2 miles... does this backpack stop that from happening ? Do any backpacks do that?

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Don't worry , mate: That's not a dumb question. That is actually a problem that is quite common. Most of the backpacks have this problem. And even with very good ventilation your shoulders underneath the shoulderstraps will sweat. There are very technical hiking backpacks that kinda move the whole bag away from your back. But these are hiking backpacks and usually don't look that cool for everyday use. What I usually do in the summer is to one strap carry the bag for a while so my back can cool of.

      in my experience there is no backpack, that will be 100% water proof. Heavy rain will get through zippers or seams eventually. Probably the best solution is a raincover or an umbrella (which is what I do in the city ;) )
      Most backpacks have pretty good water resistant fabric to begin with, but in my experience long exposure to heavy rain will get to every bag to some degree. In Hamburg we have a lot of rain, but I personally do not expose any bag to a heavy rain storm as I carry a lot of expensive equipment inside the bag. And one of my regular items in my bag is an umbrella. But for normal rain most of the bags I use have good weather resistant fabrics and zippers and hold up to a certain degree. But a monsoon rain like in Indonesia for instance will be tough on any bag if exposed to it for a longer period of time.
      Long story short, the fabric and the material are water resistant, but it really depends on the type of rain to give you a clear answer if the bag is waterproof.

      Hallo Birger,
      Leider weiß ich das nicht mehr genau. Ich zahle so viel Zoll für die ganzen Taschen, dass ich das bei einzelnen Taschen leider nicht mehr aus meinem Gedächtnis holen kann. Aber im grossen und Ganzen war es insgesamt am Ende trotzdem billiger als ne Mission Workshop Tasche hier in Deutschland zu kaufen.

      Aloha aus Hamburg,
      Ich bin grade dabei den zu bestellen, und die Kosten für den Asphalt sind ungefähr diese:
      Asphalt plus shipping = ca. 240 $ (216 €)
      Zoll von 2,7 % (42029291100) - Warentarifzollnummer ontop = ca. 6 €
      Darauf 19% EUST = ca. 42 €
      Darauf DHL Lieferkosten vom Zollamt zu dir = ca. 12-15 €
      Akkumuliert ca. 279€

      @thomasbaumgartel3548 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey bo. i tried to inform me about taxes and shipping costs.... all in all it would cost me around 120 Euro more. that's now nearly the amount for a mission workshop vandal.
      is there any other way to get the peloton asphalt???
      by the way - they said it will be back in stock by february.....

      Oh, that's is of course quite alot. Unfortunately there is no other way to get the pack within Europe. Considering that price it's probably better to get the Vandal from a dealer in Germany so you still have an easy return if you don't like it.

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Kenneth,
      For all my videos I decided not to include links for the products. Everyone is living in different countries and therefore has to deal with different shipping and customs fees. That is why I would advice everyone just to Google the product within their country to find the best deals. For instance: I live in Germany, It wouldn’t make sense to give you a German link while you might be living in USA or Asia. I hope that is understandable.

    • @kenrhem

      +kenneth rhem thanks, Kenneth . Yeah, with shipping and customs fees it can get quite expensive. So if you are lucky there is a retailer in your country. That would at least get rid of the customs fees

  • @navinmaceosmallberries8201

    I bought one and the outside strap system broke at broke at the bottom 5 days into using it. It is poorly sewn into a very thin rubber layer. They say it's not faulty and I put too much weight. LBBJKT said they would take blame because they don't list weight maximums for them even though they have a pic with a motorcycle wheel strapped to it. I was strapping an almost weightless pkg to it and t broke with ease. They offered a subpar customer service. I would not recommend this bag unless you like getting screwed if it breaks on you.

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gerkk Barton hey Gerkk,
      That sucks. Sorry to hear. I haven't used the outside straps that intensively. What did you strap outside as the straps broke?
      I used filled the bag with about 10kg of equipment and the bag holds up very good. But as I said I haven't used the outer strapping system that much.

    Is there a backpack that has ever scored a 10?

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ken P to be honest, if it was just me I wouldn't have a scoring system at all. As you might have seen in my "how I make a buying decision" video, I try to find all the flaws of an item and then figure out if I can live with them. Everyone has different needs on bags or items which is why I personally don't think scores are that applicable to different persons. The scoring system is necessary to keep a baseline on Carryology between all the different reviewers.
